WMV file causes popping sound in audio when imported into FCP

I am trying to import a WMV file that a client wants inserted into their project. When I import the file into a bin, it's fine. When i try to insert clips from the file into the timeline, I get popping sounds throughout..seems to be ad hoc.
Can anyone suggest a fix?
thank you!

The only fix that I know of is to convert the WMV file into a format that FCP works with natively ... preferably one that matches your FCP Sequence settings.
To get the best results, don't use WMV as a source. See if the client can provide the footage in it's original format in order to maintain quality.

  • How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?

I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro.  I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?

I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • Motion animation when imported into FCP comes out as 4:3 instead of 16:9

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a bumper animation for my feature film. I started in Motion 3 created a simple animation and imported into FCP and flagged it for 16:9 but still comes ot as 4:3 when exported to Quicktime. Any ideas as to why?

Set the anamorphic flag. Click on you clip in the FCP timeline or browser and type ⌘9. Check the Anamorphic flag.

  • PSD Logo stretches when imported into FCP

I began work on a project awhile back and I am finally returning to it. In a previous thread I was explained how PSD and EPS files work and don't work in FCP. It was very helpful. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4144809&#4144809)
However, I've just noticed that all my PSD logos have stretched out horizontally and they have that lovely fat (incorrect) look to it. The original PSD files in PS looked fine after some tweaking, but as I said, the stretching only appeared once imported into FCP.
    Any thoughts? Many thanks.

    Hi:
Check the Distort settings in the Motion tab.

  • .mpg files lose audio when imported to FCP

Has anyone lost only the audio tracks of a clip with an .mpg extention after importing to FCP? The audio plays in Quicktime, but FCP will not recognize it, nor will Soundtrack Pro. I'm at a loss here.

mpg files are muxed (mixed audio and video). FCP wants separate threads for audio and video.
Convert the files using Mpeg Streamclip (google it, it's free) to convert the files to an editable format - say DV-NTSC quicktime.

  • Unwanted grey lines when importing into FCP?

I have a simple lower 3rd in LT that consists of a 600 x 40 px background (rendered in After Effects as a QuickTime) and a static type track. The setup is standard 720x480 DV. When I import this into FCP, there's an unwanted dark grey line on both the top and bottom edges of the imported element (1 pixel horizontal lines).
All project settings match, and background is not being rendered. This is about the most basic compositing setup, so I can't figure out why it fails to render this properly. All other aspects of the files look fine -- type quality, drop shadow, etc.
Any thoughts? I'm happy to post screenshots if that would help.
    Thank you.

Im having the same issue with live type these grey lines keep appearing ,also im only using factory settings. If you come with any suggestions or answer please reply back

  • Canopus ADVC110 - No Audio When Importing into Imovie 6

I'm trying to import a vhs video tape from a vcr through the canopus ADVC110 into imovie. The video comes over fine, but there is no audio. I've checked the connections and they all look correct. Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem except I am using iMovie HD 5.0.2. It is definetly not my camcorder because I tried connnecting other audio sources to the converter. No audio is recognized by iMovie. I tried "cycling the power" opening and quitting GarageBand and deselecting ouput to camcorder. Nothing seems to work. Please help!!

  • No audio when importing AVCHD into FCP X?  Simple solution.

After hours of trial and error and several phone calls to support, I figured out why my AVCHD footage (MTS files from a Canon vixia HF S100)  had no audio when importing into FCPX.  The solution was to simply uncheck the box - "Remove silent channels" - under Audio in the pop-up import window .  That did the trick.
I had tried  importing from a card reader, the camera and from an external hard drive and then tried 2 converter programs (MPEG streamclick and   Wondershare Video Conerter Ultimate.)
    Final Cut Pro X
    OS X 10.8.2

It's usually something simple that can catch the best of us.

  • P2 card video out of sync when importing to FCP

Trying to transfer P2 card video (specs on file show 720P60 960x720 59.95 FR with time code 30FPS NDF. P2 plugin is installed and I can view the clips in log and transfer fine. But when importing into FCP the audio is OK but video is slow motion and out of sync. Help what can I do?

Go into the LOG AND TRANSFER preferences, that sprocket menu on the upper right, and uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN.  It really needs to be defaulted to OFF.  It causes so many issues.

  • Audio and sound not matching when importing

Hello - I've been importing footage from a miniDV from my Panasonic - the footage contains about 10 dance numbers. I had no problems, until I noticed that one of the dance numbers was a little 'off' in Final Cut. I checked the footage again, viewing it on the camera, and it was fine, so I imported again, and the dancing and the music was off even more, yet the video and audio tracks were lined up.
So then I tried importing into iMovie, and that worked just fine! So I had to make a full quality DV from that, and then re-import into FCP. How is it that it's fine on the the camera, but then goes 'off sync' when being imported into FCP, even though all of the other imported dances were fine? Any ideas/suggestions would be most helpful, thank you.

When you say off do you mean out of sync?
There's really a thousand things it could be and nearly impossible to tell with just a post. What version of FCP? What computer? What OS? What kind of drives are you using? What are you settings? How are you viewing? What capture settings did you use?
See lots of stuff. With DV, if it's out of sync changes are you have some kind of hardware issue going on as it doesn't take much computer power to edit DV.

  • Losing audio when importing from QT, help please

I have been unable to capture footage from a handycam to FCP HD, so I decided to capture in imove instead and then export the footage as QT files so I can import into FCP. Exporting is fine, and when I play the files in QT I get both audio and video, but when I import the same files into FCP I only get the video and the audio has disappeared.
When I try to import the imovie dv clips, they play for a second and then the video stops but the audio continues. That's why I decided to convert them to QT.
I have no idea how to fix this. I tried extracting the audio in imovie and exporting that way too, but same result.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
(The whole reason for these problems is that I can't seem to capture in FCP. FCP recognizes the camera, but can't seem to control it. It is set on Firewire NTSC basic, and I've played around with different settings on that as well. The camera is set to VTR with AV/DV out on........can't figure out why it won't work.)
    Sorry for the long version.

Personally i'd try to iron out the wrinkles in your fcp capture process.
Is your camera on the approved devices list? If not, you might think about a new camera. if it's a sony, you ought to use firewire, not firewire basic as your device protocol.
Can you play out to the camera?
imovie captures a dv stream, not a mov and therein lies the problem with imovie files in fcp. but you ought to be getting unrendered audio (beeps until rendered) not no audio at all. Interesting.
    What exactly is the camera?

  • No audio when importing .mpg

I've seen similar questions posted, but i just can't find the answer. I already captured all of my video off of an old analog camera that only had composite plugs. The audio works when I open the files in QuickTime, but not when I import into FCP 5

Because I was using an old camera (without firewire) I had to capture with my PC using DVD Director Pro. That works great, thanks<<</div>
You have no DV device for working with FCP? No camcorder, deck or converter? If you do, connect the analog outs of the old playback device to the analog inputs of your DV device, then connect a Firewire cable from the DV device to your Mac. Set FCP's capture control to "Non-Controllable Device" and hit Capture Now. This method works fine for everyone I know for capturing virtually any analog format (VHS, 8mm/Hi8, BetaMax, 3/4", etc). You'll have much better quality than going to MPEG first, and if you have a TBC lying around to run the analog signal through, you can get some rock-stable footage.

  • No audio when importing footage under capture

When I'm importing footage from my camcorder into FCE there is audio in the caputure window & no levels on my audio meters. The camcorder I'm using is a ZR500 Mini DV using to import.
These are the steps I have done: File -> Easy Setup then Format: -> (all formats)
after that Use: DV-NTSC Firewire Basic.
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?

    Welcome aboard idw3,
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?
That's normal for FCE. All versions have been the same. If you need to hear the audio use the cameras headphone socket if it has one.
All audio can be adjusted in the Timeline during editing as required.

  • No Audio when imported and played on the timeline

I imported with a panasonic DVM100B using a canopus ADVC-100 and RCA cables I have ordered a 9pin to 4pin firewire.. The capture files plays video and audio from Quick Time and will play when put in iMovie. The audio will not play when imported into Final Cut Studio HD upgrade and placed on the timeline. The Audio track shows peaks when open and the audio meter shows movement when playing the track.
    Any suggestions

Thanks for the info. I went back to the audio and video settings and the audio output and playback is now on default. It is working except I had to render all imported files.

A series of video files (0001.MTS to 0005.MTS) were imported into premiere, when moved to timeline premiere combined them and made them look like one long clip named 0001.MTS. Multiple motion edits and opacity edits were made. When project manager moved the project, the actual video content of 0002.MTS to 0005.MTS was missing(source clips are still there but they were playing and working as part of that 0001.MTS timeline clip before). Those parts of the 0001.MTS clip in the timeline were Danger Striped and can be relinked but now have no edits anymore. The edits are apparently only linked with the original 0001.MTS source clip but extend beyond the actual range of the actual source clip. At the time I thought it was weird that premiere displayed the whole string of clips as one (with one name and no breaks) but it all works in the original project file but cannot be transferred to another location without multiple clips showing Danger Stripes.I need to move it and preserve the dozens of motion and opacity edits linked to the apparently oversized timeline clip. HELP!! any ideas?
I did not nest any clips or sequences, premiere just seemed to combine the clips under one name when I moved them to timeline.
    I am using CS5.
