Wobbling Display

Hi All
I am using a Proview 19' CRT monitor with my G5 Mac. The resolution is set at 1600 X 1200. Recently (the past 2-3 days) the picture goes all wavy at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds when I switch to/from edit mode in iPhoto and every now and again it just does it for no apparent reason.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I'm concerned something may be on the verge of failing... Is it the Graphics Card or is it more likely to be the Monitor. It is an analogue type of fault making me suspect the Monitor?
Any ideas??
With thanks.

For a test, try moving the monitor, or your mac as far away from each other as possible. Then use the mac in the same way that causes the problem.
If it no longer occurs, chances are that your monitor has poor shielding which is showing up at the higher display resolutions.
If it continues to occur, I'd try swapping in a good quality video cable. Many of the cables provided by monitor manufacturers are the cheapest things they can find. Running at high resolution will usually cause cheap cables to show off there weakness in manners like you describe.
Also, isn't 1600x1200 the max resolution for that monitor? Check to see what the refresh rate is, I would imagine it is pretty low, which can also cause visual problems.

  • Wobbly display lid macbook pro

hello sorry if this question is a repeat, but i haven't found a discussion specified to this
i noticed my macbook pro screen is very wobbly. Everytime i type, the lid shakes back and forth.
heres a link to show you what i am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DQI0ukUfMs
i went to the genius bar twice. the first they said they tightened the hinges, but i didn't really see any difference
the second time another guy told me that there was nothing they could do cause the hinges don't work in that direction. they said that it's normal for it to wobble because of the cases add weight...
so i am wondering i paid $300 for applecare, can apple not fix this problem even under the applecare warranty?
also with the ghost marks from the logo screen that you can see in a black screen, has anyone gotten that covered under their warranty?

The ghost circle and line in the center of the screen is caused by excessive pressure on the back of the display when the machine is closed. In other words, it's user-inflicted, not a manufacturing defect, and so not covered.

  • Yoga 2 Pro display/screen wobble in laptop or stand mode

Been looking around but can't find anyone mentioning the screen/display wobble when using the yoga 2 pro in laptop or stand mode.  That baffles me.  I tried normal touching on the screen on the Yoga 2 Pro at Best Buy in laptop and stand modes and the display bounces back and forth horribly.  I can't believe this wouldn't be a deal breaker for many people unless most people just aren't using the touch screen (in those modes) that much.  And if they aren't, what's the point of having the touch screen (other than tablet mode).  Windows 8 is meant to be used with a touch screen in ANY mode.
So, can anyone comment on their experiences with a wobbling/bouncing screen/display?

Hmmm.  Wonder if you've actually used the Yoga 2 Pro.  Or maybe you're trying a little too hard to defend your expensive purchase.  Either way, calm down, buddy.  This system seems nice, just not for me with that wobble when *BARELY* touching the screen.  The Surface Pro 2 solves the issue with a backstand.  The Samsung Ativ series doesn't seem to have this issue.  And, yes, both of those are comparable systems.
I actually searched a little longer and DID find others complaining about it on the Yoga 2 Pro.  It may not be a dealbreaker for you, but it is for some.  Its irrelevant if it "comes with the territory...for this form factor" if it distracts *enough* from its usefulness (and thats putting it nicely).

  • Wobbly Shakey External Monitor Display

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro connected via VGA with an ASUS e2243fw. On 1400x1050, the screen is fine, however, on 1920x1080, the screen becomes wobbly and shakes uncontrollably.
There is nothing wrong with my adapter because I used it for projectors with high resolutions.
There is nothing wrong with the monitor because I connected it to a different computer, and works at 1920x1080.
    My drivers are updated.
My power chord is not around my monitor. There is no disturbance with the magnetic field.
    What could be the problem?

    Hi Daaniel
Here are the instructions on how to start a new thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/ann.jspa?annID=650
The original poster has a newer MBP (2009) than those covered in this forum (Early 2008 and older with silver keys). The labeling is nonintuitive to say the least. So you have the proper MBP for this area and different video technology that his (the 667mhz RAM in your profile is characteristic of the models covered in this forum area).
Do these video symptoms repeat on the built-in display? If so, your MBP may have suffered the "NVIDEA Curse," where the video chipset fails under load. There is a free repair available to owners of late 2007 and early 2008 MacBook Pros with the NVIDEA 8600M GT video chipset. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
If the built-in display does not show video defects then suspect the adaptor or the monitor's video cable. The adaptors are not especailly robust and have been kjnown to fail.

Ever since the upgrade to ios7 the home screen along with the icons continuously wobble - similar to how they move when you are moving them around on the screen.

  • IPhone 4, Display is broken, white, black, grey lines

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!
My problem is very hard to understand, basically, I cannot use my iPhone. The screen is 'wobbling', it is 'flashing', has turned white, grey and black! Help!
A few weeks ago I did crack the screen, I haven't fixed it yet because its not all over the screen, only at the bottom. I've had no issues until yesterday morning. First, the internet page I was on started to wobble, then the display itself completely changed. The actual iPhone is ok, I have been able to access it on iTunes, for example to sync it and restore, although I can't use the iphone. I have no idea what to do. I have tried resetting and restoring.
What can I do? I guess I am going to have to go to a shop tomorrow to sort it out, can it be saved?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Look for a 3rd party repair shop that can fix it in your area. It wouldn't be covered by warranty anyway.

  • 24" iMac and slightly shaking display

    Hello all,
The display for my new 24 inch iMac (I've barely used it since purchase) seems to be slightly shaky from the neck. Let me elaborate:
While I was typing, I noticed, through a shaking reflection of a lamp from my iMac's glossy screen, that my display is a little wobbly. It's rather slight, but I can see a little vibration from the reflection. I can't notice any vibration on the actual display while typing, however.
Just to test how secure the screen is on the neck, I gently pushed the screen and noticed it wobble a little. When I lower the tilt of the monitor, it wobbles a little after the movement as well. The monitor actually seems rather secure on the neck -- no involuntary movement from a loose neck as far as I can tell.
Is this just the way the iMac is built, and am I just being overly fussy, or is something wrong? As mentioned, I've barely used the machine, so don't think the neck and monitor connection got loose. Also, the iMac is on a sturdy table, so the vibration isn't from that.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    according to this http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/index.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40003504
you should have no problems (you must scroll a bit down the iMac 24" section)
    Have Fun

  • LCD display for graphic designer/photographer

My Mac Pro two 2.26 GHz Quad Core should arrive in a couple of days. I'm now in the process of choosing a 22"-24" LCD display monitor. As I am not attracted to the Apple 24" display's glossy surface, I've narrowed display choices down to these:
    1) EIZO CG222W 22.2" Widescreen LCD
    2) NEC MultiSync 2490WUXi 24.1" Widescreen LCD
Anyone using or know anything about either of these? I understand they are popular with graphic artists and photographers, but I am particularly interested in learning of any compatibility issues with the early 2009 Mac Pro/OS 10.5.6. NEC's support website notes possible compatibility issue between its 2490WUXi SpectraView II calibration software and OS 10.5.6.
If I chose the NEC model, could I use another calibration software/colorimeter with it instead? If not, then I would just go with the EIZO.

just got my two 26" NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi2 and hooked them up to a new nehalem mac pro with a radeon 4870. the monitors work perfectly. all i can say is wow. the color accuracy out of the box is great. the brightness uniformity is incredible. the blacks are really black and the whites are perfectly white. i've owned two 23" apple cinema displays and two 24" led cinema displays in the past, and these NECs look much better. very professional.
i do have two gripes with the 26" NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi2. its cased in some sort of plastic. the base is made from the same material. i'd rather have an aluminum casing and base like apple provides. the other grip is that there is a lot of flex where the actual panel attaches to the base. its a bit wobbly. this i don't like at all. they could have done something better with this. otherwise no other problems to report.
but all in all, the image on the screen is so good, that i won't complain anymore from this day forward. an absolutely stunning image on these screens. love em'!!

  • How to tighten display?

My display is slightly wobbly, as if a few screws got loose somewhere.
Can anyone give me some direction as to how to tighten them? Is it the screws on the back of the case (on the opposite side of the cd drive)? I don't wanna "screw" something up by just trying every thing i see.

    Hi there:
I too have this malady on my 1.25ghz PB. I have gone here:
    http://pbfixit.com/Guide/54.21.0.html
I pried the upper case loose and tightend the screws that connect to the display and it's still loose. it looks like it's coming from inside the display thing as opposed to the outside the cam holding the display down (which was very loose btw as I tightend it). Hope that helps.

  • How do I stop Safari's content from wobbling?

In Lion, there is this insipid wobbling of the page's view (programmer terms, I know) when the page has no scroll bars (scrolling set to always on) and you use the magic mouse's center point to finger scroll up.
The "view" scrolls away from the top left corner to display nothing, then snaps back.
As I am a leftie and I EXPECT the scrolling to STOP AT THE END OF THE SCROLL REGION, how do I burn this setting to NEVER EVER DO THIS.
It is distracting and useless and irritating.
this even happens witn an empty page.
I never ever want my UIScrollView's content to allow the content's view pane to drag away form the edges that contain it.
This didn't happen in Snow Leopard and my Mac with a 27 inch screen and a 17 inch screen is not an iOS device.
Please, for the love of babies and puppies, how can we make this stop?
Is there a pList setting for Safari that will allow the UIScrollView.bounces to = 0 or UIScrollView.elasticty = 0?
Can I edit the Framework header in /Library/Frameworks to set the default to NEVER for all epplications?
Please.  I can't use Lion with this is happening all the time I mistakenly trigger a scroll with my middle finger using the Magic mouse.
    It is horribly distracting.
    Thank you.

Thanks Carolyn, but this is a result of how Apple rebuilt their code.  On iOS, there is a thing called a UIScrollView.  Setting bounces to 0 makes the scrolling not bounce.
Lion is different.  It uses an NSScrollView. (I just did the research)  In it is a property called "Elasticity" which determines this: Allow content to be scrolled past its bounds on this axis in an elastic fashion.  Things that scroll generally sit within an NSScrollView on the screen.  It turns out the NSScrollElasticity is responsable for that.  It's defined in NSScrollView.h.
        #if MAC_OS_X_VERSION_10_7 <= MAC_OS_X_VERSION_MAX_ALLOWED
        enum {
NSScrollElasticityAutomatic = 0, // automatically determine whether to allow elasticity on this axis
NSScrollElasticityNone      = 1, // disallow scrolling beyond document bounds on this axis
NSScrollElasticityAllowed   = 2, // allow content to be scrolled past its bounds on this axis in an elastic fashion
If you open this folder, you can see the file on your hard drive.
    /System/Library/Frameworks/Appkit.framework/Versions/C/Headers/NSScrollView.h
Dunno if modifying that file would help anything, but in any case, I would love for a preference file (pList) to automatically set all NSScrollViews for an app to use NSScrollView.NSScrollElasticity = NSScrollElasticityNone
I think that would work, but I don't yet know how to do it and do it for all apps.

  • Photoshop, multi-monitor setup has wobbly lines at left of monitors

    Hi All
I'm having a problem with jagged, wobbly lines in Photoshop CS5.1.  This has nothing to do with Smoothing or anything (the wobble is more pronounched with smoothing off however).
I believe it has something to do with my 3 monitor setup in Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia GTX 460, and some sort of positioning error PS can't get it's head around (this affects NO other programs I have like Painter or Artrage).   See below for my setup.  I have the Cintiq 24HD and Intuos 4 and the problem occurs on both tablets.  Any monitor that is set in Windows Display at '0' will have a wobbly line in Photoshop if I draw if the doc is at the left of the monitor and I then draw in that area.
If I place a doc from Photoshop in the centre of the Cintiq - no wobbles.  As soon as I move it near the top left of the Cintiq (when it's monitor position in Windows is aligned directly under Monitor 1 as they are the same size), the wobble starts.  Once it's started on a doc, it continues no matter where you try drawing on the screen after that until I close and reopen Photoshop.
This definitely has NOTHING to do with electromechanical interference to the tablets as I never physically move anything but can change it's occurance by moving the Display layout in Windows.
Any monitor For me it starts from the '0' position up to about the '474' position. If I aligned all my monitors one underneath the other so they were all started at '0', then they'd all do the wobble thing on the lefthand side (using either the Inutos4 or Cintiq).  Windows makes you have your main monitor at '0', so I alway have a problem on that monitor.  The other person I know of who has this problem (posted on the Wacom forum), has said they get around it on their Cintiq (which is the main monitor), by pushing on of their other monitors into a negative setting to the left.
It's a real pain.  Anytime I want to use my Cintiq in Photoshop I have to go into Display setting and move it to the right.  Once you get the wobbles they don't stop.  ie they are then not restricted to the left of the doc, but all over.  You have to close and reopen PS and start again.
Below is an example of the wobble.  First I drew on the right... no wobble.  Then I drew on the left.  Lines are no longer smooth, but jiggly.  Note smoothing is ON.  Wiggling is worse with it off.
I haven't a clue if it's an Adobe problem or a Wacom one.  Note that my graphic drivers etc are all up-to-date and I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleaned reg, unplugged/replugged, tried just one tablet or other , stood on my head, for Wacom drivers (old versions and newest versions) till I'm blue in the face.  No difference.
Anybody have an idea?  PS Wacom (europe at least) do seem to know of the problem, but are not saying anything else at the moment.

No, it's got nothing to do with electromagnetic interference, or I couldn't change what happened by just altering the monitor position within Windows multimonitor display setup and not moving the tablets physically at all.  And as you say, interference would happen on every program - not just Photoshop.  There is no actual 'cursor' wobble. I've had interferance on older Intuos 3 tablets and at the edges of the old Cintiq 21UX, so know what that is like.
I think it's either the Windows OS or Wacom Driver, not telling PS something about the Monitor position Or PS not reading the info correctly.

  • My new macbook pro retina display has loose keys on keyboard

i purchased a new macbook pro 13" retina display and upon unboxing noticed a few keys were loose and flimsy.i contacted apple south africa and they are repairing it but my disappointment started with the bad customer service i received and the long time i am waiting to get my unit repaired- the company is still waiting for spares.is this a common fault with brand new macbooks? how long do repairs usually take? does apple train their staff on how to deal with such situations and with the clients?

Hey i bought a 2015 macbook pro retina 13'' as well, are mainly ur arrow keys loose/wobbly? i may have this issue too but am not sure if this is supposed to be normal or not.

  • Display Settings -  please help.

I've read all the posts on this and nothing has helped so here I go...
I have a 13 inch Macbook Core 2 with OSX.
I have a Acer 19"W LCD display attached using a MINI-DVI to VGA Adapter.
The monitor's native display is 1400x900. I can get only 1400x1050.
I'd sell my first born just to be able to scream at this thing and say "1400x900!!! I own you!"
Someone please help me. If I spend another hour on this I'm buying a PC, and fixing the wobble in my kitchen table with my Macbook.
    Thanks.

The display is supposed to send information about supported resolutions to the computer through the display connector. Not all displays send correct data. SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX will force the computer to the resolution you want, even if it didn't get correct information from the display. Read the instructions carefully, so you don't get the computer stuck at an invalid resolution.

  • Audio drop out and picture wobble during export to tape

I use a camera to capture footage from DV tapes - it's its only job and is always connected to the Mac.
But when playing back the footage from the FCP 4.5 timeline to make a back up DV copy of a finished job it all goes awry.
The audio cuts in and out - from normal audio to silence and back again at no regular intervals but every few seconds.
The picture wobbles just as though the camera isn't getting enough power (it is connected to the mains)I watch the playback with the camera's flip out screen.
On the computer it all looks fine. Playing back the DV tape shows me what I saw on the flip out screen - a wobbly picture with intermittent sound.
The cables are good. The camera works fine in all other respects, the external firewire drives work fine, the computer is good.
I'm stumped! I can't export to tape any more...
But exporting the files via compressor to make DVDs is fine - no problems.

Playing back the DV tape shows me what I saw on the flip out screen - a wobbly picture with intermittent sound.
The cables are good. The camera works fine in all other respects, the external firewire drives work fine, the computer is good.
Not quite sure how you reach your conclusion in the second paragraph. If it displays fine on the computer and is TOTAL JUNK after it heads out the firewire cable - I'd start with every piece of equipment that connects to the computer. Time to do A/B testing. find another camera, A-DV converter, firewire cables, even the computer and test each element.
    good luck.
