Woke up today and my ipod was empty!!!!

I downloaded some music last night to Itunes and then updated my 20G Ipod. I listened to the Ipod for a while and then plugged it into my computer to recharge for the night. When I woke this morning, the Ipod was completely empty, though everything was in Itunes, including the new songs I had downloaded last night. I have restored my Ipod three times today, but each time I launch Itunes, my Ipod is not recognized. It recognizes "an" Ipod, but it does not say "David's Ipod" next to it, which is it's correct name. I am unable to update the Ipod. Hope you can help.
Thank you in advance,
David

When you Restore the iPod, it completely erases everything on the iPod. The music, the settings, and the name, all gone. When you plug a restored iPod in, it is as if you plugged in a brand-new never-been-used-before iPod.
Plug in your iPod. Give it a name. Sync with your library. Set up your iPod preferences again. It is a minor inconvenience when you consider that all your music is safely preserved in iTunes.

  • I woke up this morning and my iPod was empty.  HELP!

I have a 2nd generation 15GB iPod. As of last night everything was fine. I had used it to play music through iTunes (version 6.0.3) and left it plugged into my computer (which was shut down) overnight. I woke up this morning and went to put some music on through iTunes and it quit itself. I reopened it, and then it said that it could not connect to my iPod and that I should reset it to factory settings using iPod updater.
Naturally, this message worried me. I safely removed my iPod from my computer and went to look at the iPod. All the music was gone. Under "About" it says I have 0 songs, a 13.9 GB capacity and have 3.0 GB available.
Is the iPod confused about how much space is being used on it? Is everything really gone? I tried double-clicking the iPod icon when it was on my desktop, but it truly appears empty.
Any help or insight into this dilemma would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the iPod is still showing used space, then you may have a corrupted hard drive.
This doesn't mean that the songs are not on your iPod, hence the fact that the iPod reports used space and iTunes may show them.
You should restore the iPod and then reload the songs from iTunes.

If you no longer have the old computer this will be very helpful and If you have other content - apps, books, movies, that you want to transfer to the iTunes library - you need to transfer your purchases from the iPod to the computer as well.
    Take a look.

This works the same way whether you have a Mac or a PC.

  • Is there any way to retrieve photos that were put in the trash can and then it was emptied?  Or is there a way to move photos from an imovie to iphoto?

Is there any way to retrieve photos that were put in the trash can and then it was emptied?  Or is there a way to move photos from an imovie to iphoto?

If you've emptied the trash, ehtn no. However if you have a backup, like Time Machine, or a recent backup copy of your photo library you could recover the photos from the trash.
The answer to getting a snapshot form iMovie depends on what version you have.
I should add it technically may be possible to recover the emptied trash, but if you really want to do that you would need to download a utility software that can attempt to recover deleted files. Do it soon before you start writing more data to that disk. At the moment I don't have a recommendation for such a program. Maybe someone else out there will offer suggestion.

  • My computer died and my ipod was stolen.  Now I have an iphone 4 and want to access my library.  How do I get it?

My computer died and my ipod was stolen.  Now I have an iphone 4 and want to get to my library.  Any ideas?

It will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion..
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can redownload some purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):

I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

  • Where has the "Clean up" "Clean up by" option gone for organizing folders? I just upgraded to OS X Maverick today and noticed it was no longer a option when right clicking; also, it is grayed out in the view tab.

i bought a ipod touch 4th generation with cracked screen and i finally got it to turn on itunes and the ipod was making charging noises but the screen was just white i tryed updating it to ios 5.1.1 bit did nothink so i was wondering how to fix this white screen i tryed a hard reboot ( whitch i heard might work ) but did nothink if there is no sulution to fixing this is it worth buying a new screen ? thaanks

    Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If yu can't turn it off, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try again.
If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and service is required.

  • My on off button on my iPhone isn't working and it has been for several months but i went to the apple store today and the warranty was only 16 days over is it possible to get it fixed for free

my on off button on my iPhone isn't working and it has been for several months but i went to the apple store today and the warranty was only 16 days over is it possible to get it fixed for free

If the genius at the Apple Store did not offer repair under warranty then NO
12 months is 12months asume you did not have AppleCare

  • My 2nd gen iPad woke up today and decided to load all 800  apps, I've reset, restored and still the minute I connect wifi it's off to the races. It is set to manually manage apps. Are there any suggestions?

My 2nd generation iPad woke this morning and decided to load all of my apps 800+ and I don't seem able tp prevent it. It is set to manually manage apps and I have reset, restored and the minute I reconnect with wifi it starts loading. Any suggestions out there on how to correct this?

@chris_l -- yeah I was worried that might be the case, still I'm not sure if that explains why it keeps failing the burn process part way through?
I've tried this and that in Linux but without much luck. I'm still quite a noob with a lot of Linux things and this is the first time I'm trying anything to do with optical disks/drives etc. so I'm learning as I go...
The disk that failed in Windows but was 'readable' in Linux did just pass a run through ddrescue -- i.e. it created an output file okay and did not report any errors in the process.
However when I mounted the resulting image and tried to copy the files across the first folder reported an "input/ouput error" (just using gui copy+paste in Thunar file manager)
...the other folders did copy okay though!
It seems as though it's the lead-in / lead-out and disc finalizing process that are the main fail points with the burn operation. I don't know if InfraRecorder is any good or likely to be the problem? Anyway the drive cam with Nero (inc. Linux version) so might give either or both of these a go too, if they don't work either then at least I wont be short of something to rest a mug o' tea on
@ chris_l (again) -- the Plextor drives do have a "Vari-Rec" feature which allows a user to 'tweak' the laser power / output level so I might try this too.
@alphaniner -- thanks I've not seen this package before, I'm guessing it's a bit like cdparanoia but for dvds?!
    Thanks for the help!
(pre-post) UPDATE >>> I've just mounted my Windows partition  in Linux so I'll have a crack at burning the files using cdrtools before I resort to throwing the dvd drive out of the window and chasing it around the yard with a lump hammer

  • I bought a movie from iTunes and my iPod was syncing so i thought it would sync the movie too. Well it did but it didnt for some reason I dont know it shows up on my iPod, but its grayish looking and wont let me play it at all. Help!?

So today is Chritmas and everything so I got iTunes Gift Cards ^_^. Meanwhile, my iPod Touch 4th Generation is syncing to my PC. Me thinking I have enough storage space for the movie to be held. I buy it and think its gonna goahead and be on my iPod now. When the movie is done downloading I go to the videos app on my iPod and see it. It is grayish and I didnt know if it was normal or not so i just click dont work, click again, click again, click again. Not working. Then i come here for somebody else to help me.

  • My cloud is full, i havent updated in 41 weeks, and my ipod was stolen. have I lost all my music?

My ipod touch 5 was stolen. I have changed all the passwords for any account that I had on it. The problem now is that I have been traveling without my computer for nearly a year. My cloud is full and I haven't backed anything up. Have I lost all my music purchases as well? Does Apple have a record of the songs I bought and will I be able to get them back?

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My home button is broken and my iPod was accidentally shut off. Is there a way I can turn it back on with out it?

My home button has been broken for almost 7 months, now, and I have been using the assistive touch, but, today, my roommate accidentally shut my iPod off using the Lock button, and now I cannot turn it back on. Is there a way to do this? Help!

Try depressing and holding the Lock button to see if that works.
What will work is to connect the iPod to a charging source.

  • Need to close icloud account and the ipod was stolen

ipod stolen, need to close mail, how do you do it from a regular library account.

If the old iCloud ID ("email address") is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Iam 14 and my ipod was stolen and i need to know how to take the credit card off the stolen ipod

I need to help to understand how to take a credit card off a stolen ipod

Sign into your iTunes account and change your password. If your password was stored on the device that should prevent purchases being made on it.
If you had enabled Find My iPhone you can attempt to locate, lock or remotely wipe the device.
