Won't charge on computer or in the wall

I have a 2nd gen shuffle, brand new (about a month old) Recently the battery ran out while I was on holiday. When I got home, I plugged it in and it won't charge. I get three flashing amber lights then nothing. All software is updated and I have tried resetting the shuffle (simply switching it off, wait 5 sec, then on again - according to apple). Nothing works.
I tried plugging it into the wall and I get the same thing.
HELP!!

Wow, how many people have wasted money and time on this product? I was also foolish enough to think the power adapter would help. Personally, I'm on my third unit. It's sitting in the charger right now, doing nothing. No lights. So it's probably dead.
It's time to get a $40 creative MP3 and spend $10 on AA batteries to last me a year. I'll spend another $10 next year and still be ahead of a $70 shuffle and whatever I paid for the power adapter.
And by the way, I never did hear why my other two units were defective. Makes you wonder if they knew this was a problem but continued to sell their product.

Make sure your PC time and time zone are set correctly, you'll get this error if they are not.
Make sure IE is enabled, you'll get that error message if it's not:
1.Navigate to the Control Panel by clicking on Start, followed by Control Panel (or Settings and then Control Panel, depending on how you're setup).
2.In the Control Panel window, open Add or Remove Programs.
Note: In Microsoft Windows XP, depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the Add or Remove Programs icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.
3.In the Add or Remove Programs window, click on the Set Program Access and Defaults button on the menu on the left.
4.Choose the Custom option in the Choose a configuration: area.
5.In the Choose a default Web browser: area, make sure there is a check in the check box next to Internet Explorer.
6.Click OK. Windows XP will apply your changes and the Add or Remove Programs window will close automatically.

How could Microsoft come up in a forum about an Apple problem?  We have heard for years how superior Apple products are but we've never had as many headaches and problems with our Windows PCs over the years as we have with the Apple devices we now have.  My wife has the most recent iPad and my son has the most recent ipod Touch. Earlier problems notwithstanding, the iOS 7 upgrade was horrible and hard to imagine for a device where the company controls all of the hardware and the software with no variants.  As for Microsoft, I can say I have programmed on many various platforms from PolyForth to Unix to Windows and .NET.  I think what many Apple users don't understand about Windows is the sheer magnitude of variables in making the software and all upgrades work for such a myriad array of hardware platforms and usage scenarios across an enormous number of partners and small to large enterprises.  Anyone who has worked with a large integrated system can get a sense of this.  I work in healthcare and our HIS system is rated #1 in it's class (built on a derivitive of an old MIT OS) but due to it's vast integration capabilities and the variety of usage and setup variables from site to site, it requires daily dilligence in error reporting and resolution across all of it's applicaitons.  Microsoft Windows works and integrates with a massive number of other Microsoft client and server solutions that are used by the vast majority of enterprises in the world. It's no small feat to keep the Microsoft software stack in good working order.  Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but I wish we could past this ABM mentality that pervades online forums. I'm not sure if you've noticed but the Apple forums are jam packed with folks like yourself and me having problems with Apple hardware or software so I'm not sure where we can say one is better than the other, even if you could carve out some realistic benchmarks from which we could compare them on an even playing field.
With all the said, and I apologize but feel that the Anti MS anecdotes belong left long in the past, but any ideas on how we can get the supplied power cables to charge the devices they came with? I don't believe I've ever encountered a problem at the power cable level like this in which 2 cables are not working on 2 different devices. I think it points to software problems but as someone else mentioned about display settings, I'm not sure how your display settings affect the charging of a device in a non display mode. Would that suggest the thunderbolt cables are not capable of delivering enough charge to keep up with idle power consumption?

Try cleaning out the phone's connector.  Else take it in to Apple, you have a 1 year warranty.

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Battery won't charge but computer will run off the cords energy

I have the cord plugged in and currently my computer is running off of the power from the wall, not battery power. So it is connecting but it won't charge the battery.
does anybody have any idea on why it isn't working and how i could fix it?

Hi jill not jillian (glad that is cleared up) and welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Three possibilities -
    1) The power manager is corrupted. [Reset your SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964] and see if this fixes it.
    2) The battery is bad. If you have one, try with a different battery (assuming yours is one that can be user replaced) and see if that fixes it. If you don't have one, a nearby Apple retail store will have one they can test with. Be sure to [make an appointment|www.apple.com/retail] or you may spend a long time waiting to talk to a Mac Genius.
    3) The computer itself has a problem. If this is the case it will need to be repaired.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhone 4S won't charge, but is recognized by the computer and shows that my iPhone is charging?

Hi. I have a problem with my iPhone 4S
So today, I connected the iPhone 4S with the wall charger, since my battery is low. My battery percentage is at 8 %. The funny thing is, it shows on the status bar that my iPhone is charging. But it has not gone pass the 8 %, it is still showing me 8 %!
Also, I tried connecting it to the computer and the same thing happens. It will however, connect to iTunes and all.
What can be the problem? And yes, I tried restoring my iPhone and resetting it by holding power and home button for 10 seconds. No progress, it is the same problem occuring.

I also tried blowing the cleaning the connector. No progress.
It is kind of weird that it shows the charging icon on the status bar, but it does not actually charge (since it gets stuck at the percentage it was). Now it has gone to 7 % and does not increase at all.

  • Battery won't charge, but will run on the adapter power.

I've had my MBP for about a month now. The problem I've had for the past few days is that the computer will work completely fine when it's plugged in, however the battery won't charge. Once the adapter gets removed, I get the popup that tells me that I'm on reserve battery power. When I click on the battery icon at the top right of the screen, it tells me that the battery is not charging, but it also tells me that the power source is the power adapter.

You need to take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them run a diagnostic on your battery and power adapter. If either is bad they will replace them, and if it's not the battery or power adapter, then it's probably the logic board.

  • IPhone won't charge on computer

Yes, it's the same cable.  It will work in the wall, but not on my computer.

  • TS3274 ipad won't charge from computer

My Ipad will sync with Itunes but it won't charge while connected to my computer

It's not supposed to.  Use the iPad specific 10W wall charger.  Very few USB ports on a computer put out enough power to charge an iPad.
You might want to read the user guide, which is conveniently bookmarked in Safari on your iPad.

  • Ipod not recognised by computer & won't charge (with computer or adapter)

    Hi,
When I try to charge my 30G ipod video with my apple adapter, it does absolutely nothing. When I hook it up to my computer, it won't turn up in 'my computer' or itunes and i get the message that the USB-device can't be recognised. On another computer i get the message that I've caused an electricity overdose (sorry for my bad translation from dutch) on the USB input. Other ipods can be recognides by my computer. I've installed the latest version of itunes.
I've been to the apple store and when they try to charge it there with their adapter it does charges, so i thought my adapter was broken, but it does charge any other ipod. With my dad's (not apple) adapter i can't charge my ipod as well.
I hope someone knows a solution to this problem. I've already tried resetting and putting it in disk mode, but nothing works.

  • Iphone 4G troubles. Won't charge and computer won't recognize it.?

I plugged my Iphone4 into the USB and it will not connect to my charger or computer. Therefore it won't charge. I turned my phone off and it is showing that it needs to be charged but is not recognized by my computer and won't charge via wall charger. Yes, I have tried different cables and still no luck. If anyone has any great ideas to fix it, I would love to hear it so my phone can be fixed. Thanks.

I got this phone as a gift and I think the warranty is up. Since I didn't cause this problem would I be able to get a new phone or would I have to buy it? I need one because this is my only phone and need it back up ASAP for work and school. Thanks for your help.
