Won't hotsync

My palm won't hotsync with my computer anymore. I have re-loaded a couple of times, but still nothing. When I try, the computer makes 3 sharp beeps, but no hotsync, and eventually the palm device gives me the message " The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hi,
Three beeps, three messages, no replies ! I've been using Palm handhelds for several years now. Rarely have I had problems and up to date I've always found a solution. But this one has stumped me ! I've reinstalled all the Palm software on my PC, cleaned the contacts, soft and hard reset the palm, but all to no avail. Seeing as nothing is shown on the PC screen I suspect it must be linked to a communications problem rather than a software one. Has anyone found a solution ?
I live in hope !
Chris

I am far from an expert on this , but I had the same problem with my Palm TX.  I have found a temporary solution.
If your hot sync icon has disappeared from yoyr tray in lower right hand corner of computer screen AND
when you open Palm Desktop and go to Hotsync...the options (custom, view log, etc) are greyed out and not selectable)..When the hotsync icon from the tray disappears (you can no longer hotsync by pressing button or through the desktop software).  Try the following temporary fix.
Create a HotSync icon on your desktop.  To re-activate the HotSync tray icon, just double click on the hotsync desktop icon and the hotsync tray icon will re-appear, as well as the greyed-outicons under the Palm desktop hotsync option will become active once again.  You should now be able to hotsync.  However, the problem keeps re-occuring, and needs fixing often, which is why I leave the HotSync icon on my desktop to make life simple.  I do not know of a permanent fix.

  • Centro won't Hotsync Calendar and Contacts with desktop

Here's my problem.  I hotsync, but my Calendar and Contacts don't transfer to or from the handheld to the desktop.  I'm using a Palm Centro and trying to sync with Palm Desktop 4.2.1 on a MacBook running MacOS 10.4.11.
I already tried a complete restart of my Centro, erasing all user data.  I then hotsynced it and it restored from the backup on my MacBook, but this did not fix the problem.  It restored my contacts and all my apps to their prior status, but I lost all the Calendar data in my Centro.  I still have the data on the MacBook from whenever it was just before it stopped synching correctly.
The log proposes that I run the Contacts and Calendar applications and then run a hotsync.  I did that, but no results.  I still get the same stuff in the log.
    Please help.

Here's a (partial) log of a Hotsync.  This interface won't let me post the full log.

This may be dumb, but I did not think to look for this until i called Palm for help...
After I had issues syncing, I re-installed the Palm software..when you do that, it sometimes turns off the ability to sync. To confirm that you have the ability to sync,  open Palm Desktop and go to Hotsync --> Setup, and check the HotSync Controls to see if it is "Enabled"
Also, if you have problems syncing with Entourage...try this...

  • Treo 700p won't HotSync with XP Pro

My Palm Treo 700p will no longer HotSync with Windows.  I have tried different cables, different operating systems, different computers.  I get the same message every time, which is "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application".  Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks for the suggestions, after perusing the FAQ section I tried the soft reboot (disconnecting the battery and re-connecting) and that fixed both the HotSYnc problem and the Bluetooth problem, so I'm good.  Thanks again!

  • Centro won't HotSync using Bluetooth & Windows 7

I have been using Bluetooth to HotSync my Palm Centro (Verizon) with my Windows 7 (HP) computer.  The last successful HotSync was 2 weeks ago (9/20).  No hardware or software changes have been made to the computer since then.  When I tried to HotSync today I got this message:
    HotSync Problem
Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.
I tried rebooting the computer, but that didn't help.
Can anybody help me?  In very simple basic words (pretend you're talking to your grandmother) please.
    Thanks,

I also get this message.  I thought it was because my wife and I each have a Palm Centro and it meant that the HotSync was still connected to the other person's phone.  But If you are only using one phone, and still get this message, I am now stumped as to why the error occurs.

When you installed Palm Desktop and sync'ed for the first time, it should have asked you if you wanted to create a new username or use an existing name. You should have used the existing name that is on the Handheld.
When you create a new user in Palm Desktop and it is not the same name that is on the handheld, then Palm Desktop does not have a reference name to sync with.
Go into hotsync on the device and look in the upper right corner and it will show you the hotsync username of the device. Create a username in Palm desktop that is the same name and sync to that username in palm desktop.
Click on the link below for the support page for your device. On that page is a link for hotsync troubleshooting for the Mac. There is also a link for the Mac desktop handbook.

  • Data won't hotsync

I've been trying to set up Oracle Lite and Satellite Forms
database application on a Palm with no results. I've got as far
as getting "sane" error messages in the hotsync log. This is what
    I get:
"SFT-EE_EMP skipped because scott was not subscribed to
    SFT-EE_EMP"
Now, I followed the "Hands on Document" for Oracle Lite 3.5.0.1
by the letter, and I'm very suspicious about this message, could
it be possible that the documentation is wrong? Or does Satellite
Forms add the prefixes to table names? And how is the Client name
related to the Palm user name? I'm quite confused and
    frustrated... :/

  • Won't hotsync calendar

I have a Palm Centro.  When I hotsync, it does not synchronize my Outlook Calendar with the Palm. Tasks and Contacts work fine. I get no error messages, and in fact, the Schedule conduit doesn't even appear in the hotsync log. I've checked the configuration to make sure calendar is checked as well as sync files.  I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon and Palm with zero resolution.  I've un- and re-installed the software.  I've done a soft reset.  I'm at my wits end!
If it makes any difference, I'm running Outlook 2002 on Win XP. Additionally, I also have an EAS with my work computer.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas for fixes?

In hotsync manager, does it say Outlook beside calendar?
There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT.
If the other PIM cartegories sync, the calendar should sync also.
I and several people here at work are experiencing the same issue with our Treo 755p.  We have reset the device, reinstalled the Palm Desktop, used the DBFixIt application (which found no problems) and still no go.  The calendar and ONLY THE CALENDAR just will not sync with the treo from outlook 2007 (when using wireless sync).  Everything else works fine and the calendar WILL sync using the cable/cradle.
any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
Assuming you have Palm Desktop 6.2 installed?
What version of Vista are you using...32-bit or 64-bit?  If it's 64-bit, there are no 64-bit USB drivers available and you will have to sync using either Bluetooth or IR beaming.  There are many threads and posts on the subject.

  • Tungsten E won't hotsync on Windows 7

I run my Palm Tungsten E (bought in 2005) using the HotSync Manager 4 with no problem.
I just got a new HP laptop and attempted to install the HotSync Manager, the disk didn't have the software to do the install.
I downloaded HotSync Manager 7.0.2 in an attempt to resolve the problem. The result is the same - the HotSync doesn't run and NO error message to tell me what the problem may be!
Has anyone had any success in running a successful HotSync the Tungsten E on Windows.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I also have a old Tungsten E and now a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. I finally figured out how to sync so here's my story.
Already stated it only works using IR, so I bought a MOSCHIP 7780 USB infrared adapter (www.conrad.nl) and downloaded the right driver win7-64 from www.moschip.com and installed the IR adapter.
I downloaded Palmdesktop 6.22 including hotsync 7.02. I also had to download and install an extra conduit for Outlook2007 which I'm running.
Next: setting up the hotsync for my Tungsten E account. First making an user account. This is a bit tricky as this is not the username under network setting but the name that appears in teh top right of the screen if you sync. I also had to unassign my password as I got serious trouble when the sync asked for a password although I never had a password setup in my Tungesten E. Go to prefs - security - and unassign your password.
Then in the hotsync manager filling in what to sync (Outlook contacts, calender etc). And then setting connection sto Infarred AND Network!
Then setting up the connection, placing my USB IR adapter close to the IR of mt Tungesten E. Next going to prefs, connection and I thought selecting IR to PC/handheld but later that turned out to be wrong, so I created my own custom connection "IR Paul" and set connect to PC and via Infrared.
Next to prefs - network - service untitled, username in my case "psalverd", password "prompt" and connection to IR Paul. Done
Then tab the star on the PDA but cancel immediatelt as the Tungesten E then although you set it up to connect with IR tries to connect usnig a cradle/cable. Yo see the Hotsync menu on your PDA saying "last hotsync date-time" using IR Paul. Her tab the Hotsync icon in the middle of the screen adn the hotsync will now run. On your PC a window will open that indicates the progress of your sync, will soon ask for a password (none) and then the really sync begins.
Hope my story will help somebody else. As I'm not a very literate PC users this might not all be correct but it worked for me.

My Palm T/X will soft reset, but not hard reset.  It keeps going to the password screen. When I try to enter the password, it jumps to the Owners screen and that's it - it's stuck.

Any ideas on how to at least get it to hard reset?

Connie, I know you've tried, but just for the heck of it, let's review how to Hard Reset:
    To perform a Hard Reset:
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Can't hotsync my calendar and contacts now

I got my Centro (Verizon) two days ago and it worked great.  I received both my comcast email and my EAS email from work.  I did one hotsync at home two days ago without any errors, but once I went into work and the centro started a wireless sync to our email network everything changed. My personal contacts and calendar are now on my Microsoft Outlook 2003 at work and the centro won't hotsync them to my outlook 2002 on my personal computer.  I have done just about eveything I could think of.  I did a hard reset, set up both my email accounts again and got a few things to hotsync to Outlook 2002 at home, but the contacts and calendars just won't.  There is no error.  They just aren't listed in the hotsync log on the device.  I checked the conduits in the hotsync manager.  Every thing is checked. I have changed settings, such as set as default, but it just wont sync them. I am at a loss, hoping that my company's IT people can help. Any suggestions? Thanks, Linda
PS. My IT person is telling me that my Centro won't hot sync via the cable now that I have used my company's EAS. So, how do I undo this?

Because this type of account in VersaMail performs all of its synchronization over the air, HotSync conduits for Calendar and Contacts are disabled, to avoid duplicates when you sync through your USB cable.
After you set up the EAS account, and HotSync your device twice, the calendar and Contacts conduits will be disabled; they will only update on your Smartphone through an over-the-air sync.
