Won't print black

My photosmart 5510d all in one gradually stopped printing black. I have replaced the cartridge twice and run the printhead cleaning feature on the tools three times. It still won't print black. It prints color just fine. The printer is not under warranty anymore.

Cleaning the printhead as described in the video in the post here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart 5510.

My MX892 won't print black anymore. I have tried both the cleaning and deep cleaning procedures several times. And I have changed the ink cartridges to new ones.  Still nothing. Any suggestions on what to try next? The colors work just fine.

  • C4680 All in one won't print black

C4680 printer shows low black ink level, and won't print black.  Prints color fine.
    Already have tried the following:
Printer stopped printing a letter, showed low black ink level.
Purchased and installed new black ink cartridge, still won't print black, still low black ink indicator
Did printer cleaning three times.  No help
Switch off, remove cables etc as recommended on  HP site.  No help.
Completely deleted printer from devices and reinstalled.  No help.
Called HP help, after 30 minutes of BS told me cartridge was low after I told him three time I had just bought and installed a new one.
It will not copy black either
    Any new ideas?
    Thanks.

Clara- I did call phone support as I stated in my post; and their response was extremely irritating, just like your last post. Told Surha the  phone guy all that I had already done and he kept telling me to do the same things.  Didn't even say, I know you did this but let's  try it again.
I clearly stated in my post that I purchased and installed a new ink cartridge, didn't help.    I appreciate your trying to help on your own time possibly, but  READ THE POST.  I am aggravated because I have a problem and you are telling me to do things that I have already done that didn't help.
If you have something new to suggest, great, that's why I am contacting HP.  If not just say, "yeah you have tried everything that they tell us to go through.  You may need to take in to a service depot or just buy a new printer.  Sorry."
By the way, there are several reports on other internet sites of the same problem with no solution.  HP obviously has no clue.  Hope someone in engineering or wherever is looking into this.

  • PIXMA iP4300 won't print black.

PIXMA iP4300 won't print black. New ink, nozzles cleaned, buffers cleared. Help?

Hi rrrb, Please make sure that the installed ink tanks are correct and full of ink. The correct order is: CLI-8Bk Black
    PGI-5Bk Black
    CLI-8Y Yellow
    CLI-8M Magenta
CLI-8C Cyan Next, a test of the printer should be performed. The Nozzle Check pattern shows if each print head nozzle is operating properly. Please perform the following steps to print a Nozzle Check pattern: 1. Turn the printer on and make sure paper is loaded into the sheet feeder. 2. On your printer, press and hold the RESUME button until the printer light blinks twice. When you release the button, the Nozzle Check pattern will be printed. 3. After the Nozzle Check pattern is printed, compare the results to this example:  If any colors are missing or if any horizontal lines appear in the color bars, perform the print head cleaning procedure.  To perform a print head cleaning with the printer, please follow these instructions: 1. On your printer, press and hold the RESUME button until the printer light flashes one time. 2. When you release the RESUME button, the POWER light starts flashing and all colors will be cleaned. This will continue for about 30 seconds. 3. Wait for the light to stop flashing before you resume normal operation. Once you have completed two cleanings, please perform another Nozzle Test. If colors are still missing, please contact our support group using the following link:

  • Photosmart 5200 won't print black ink

Hi there, I purchased the printer just over a year ago. It hasn't been used much at all. For the last few months I have continuously changed the black ink cartridge as it is saying it is empty or low and it still won't print black. The colour functions fine. I have tried all the settings options of cleaning and aligning and it doesn't make any difference. I only print via air print from iPhone and iPad, and the documents sent are extremely basic word docs. The printer is in perfect condition and I am out of warranty. Please can you advise how to fix as I rely on the printer for my invoices! Thanks

    Hello,
Since you have replaced Black ink cartridges and tried performing Clean Printhead and issue still exists, i'd suggest you to call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • HP Photosmart 6510 won't print black ink

I changed the ink cartridge in my printer and it won't print black ink now.
I have used almost an entire cartridge of my color inks running alignments and cleaning the printhead. I have also cleaned the print head with a cotton swab and some warm water.
I have delted the software and reinstalled it.
I have always used HP cartridges.
The printer is out of warranty. I'm in the US.
I have also ran every reset I can find online, nothing is working.
I appreciate your help as I am a broke college student and can't really afford a new printer at the moment.
    Thanks!

Hello @valster101 and welcome to the HP Forums!
One thing I see that hasn't been tried is checking the vents on the cartridges. Please have a look through this Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in...s document to make sure you have tried all of these steps at one point or another.
If it still won't print black after that, just let me know and I'll do my best to get you a resolution

  • Photosmart 7520 won't print black, says I have half a cartridge

My printer won't print black (regular, not photo black).  The ink level says I have half a cartridge.  I have tried cleaning the heads so many times but no change.  I tried to find an answer in the help section of HP and had no luck.  I tried to contact HP but was told because my printer was out of warranty in January I would have to pay to talk to someone.  Can anyone help?  I'm  disappointed in HP, charging people to talk to customer service is ridiculous.

The steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart 7520 printer.  Be sure to check the vents as shown in Solution Six.
If the above does not resolve the issue then soaking the printhead as described in the post here may help.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310 won't print black

My printer won't print black.  I've replaced all cartridges, removed and then reinstalled printer driver, and cleaned cartridges 3x.  After first time cleaning cartridges, the test sheet had black print, but some lines were better than others.  After the 2nd time, no black at all printed.  After 3rd time, no black at all printed.  What next?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are unable to print in black ink on your HP Photosmart Premium C310, you have done some troubleshooting with no success. Please make sure you have not missed any steps listed here: Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One Printer Series (C310) If you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if the printer is out of warranty; How to fix a HP Printer, not printing black ink and missing colours  Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on an alternate model. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide. HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.  I hope this helps. If this resolves the issue, please let me know so we can help others who may be experiencing the same issue.

  • 6150 All-in-One won't print black

My HP Photosmart 6150 All-In-One won't print black. There is a new black cartridge and all the other inks are fine as well.  I've cleaned the printhead 3 times and all that printed was yellow.  I then  ran an alignment. The alignment failed, but it wasn't because of a paper issue. The manual says it could be that the printhead assembly or the sensor is defective. Is it worth getting that fixed, or should I just get a new printer? I've had this one for 8 years and it's worked great until now.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that your HP Photosmart c6150 will not print black. I am happy to look into this issue for you!  According to this guide, Color Mix or Missing Colors on the Diagnostic Page, it states: Missing colors occur when the printhead nozzles dry out. Since you have tried cleanign the printhead multiple times, and the issue is still occuring, I would consider having the printer serviced/or replaced. Please contact HP, phone support for further assistance. (After you fill out the information, you will be given a phone number.) If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. • All in one printer won't print black ink - colour only

My all in one printer won't print in black right now - colour only - even though the black ink is new.  It will print a couple of black ink pages and then reverts to colour.  If I give it a rest it will print a couple more black pages and then again, in colour - I think something needs cleaning but I don't know what - any help is much appreciated!  Val

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? Is the black cartridge an original HP or a third party or refill/renamufactured cartridge? (The symptom is typical of a poorly refilled cartrdige....)

  • Won't print black ink

HP5510 All In One.  Printer started printing in very light blueish gray ink.  Changed the black cartridge (NEW HP ISSUED not refurbished) and it still didn't work.  Cleaned printeheads, aligned printer, unplugged printer and still didn't work.  I then ran out of yellow ink so I replaced it and it still wouldn't print black.  Then I ran out of blue ink working on all these issues and replaced blue cartridge now it won;t print at all.  I have repeated all the above steps. Now my magenta ink is low.
When this problem started all the colored cartridges were close to full. The ink has been depleted with repeatedly following the directions to correct the black ink issue.
I have put the printer in greyscale, black ink only and still the issue is unresolved.  The printer is not in warranty.

    Hi @turtleinthesand,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5520, you are unable to print in black ink after replacing the cartridge.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in?
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks

  • Won't Print Black even after changing printhead

Last week the printer stopped printing black.  The colors still print fine.  I have gone through the print head cleaning like 10x, new cartridges.  I even got a replacement printhead and it still won't print in black.  HP phone Support was useless.  He tried to sell me a service call then tried to sell me a new printer.  If I need a new printed I'll buy it myself.
Are there any solutions or fixes?  To repeat - I cleaned the printhead multiple times, installed new cartridges and installed a new printhead. I even removed and reinstalled the printer
I am really starting to hate HP products

Was the replacement printhead new from HP or a reman from a third party?
I would suggest checking the black cartridge vents as described in the document here.  If that does not resolve the issue then soaking the printhead as discussed in the post here may help.
