Wont close properly after using google & wont open again without using taskmanager

after the last firefox update if I use google a few times firefox doesnt close properly & wont restart unless I either reboot the machine or go into taskmanager & close it down there. It then re-opens correctly but with the last google pages displayed (even if they've been closed down before I attempted to close firefox)
I'm not the only person with this problem I know of at least one other.

I have the same problem. If I open a google site, the browser no longer responds and the process must be stopped in task manager.
This problem occurs on all google websites. For example mail.google.com, google.com and reader.google.ch.

I'm having a problem with Firefox recently. Everytime I open Firefox and leave it open for more than 5 minutes the program wont close properly. The red X/minimize buttons stop working. I can close tabs though.
There are two ways for me exit firefox when this happens
1: Clciking file--> exit
2: opening the Taskmanager and stopping Firefox.
Anyone got any idead on what's causing this? Plugin clash? What's the best way to figure it out if it is?

Nah, It's not really a hang, as such. I can keep surfing away for hours with this problem. It only is a problem once I open a menu like the preferences window/addons window or go to close Firefox. If I close Firefox by using the File-->exit method with multiple tabs open it asks me if I want to Save and quit, quit or cancel. It then wont let chose from those. the menu icons highlight but my mouse click doesn't register and wont let me select anything.

Refer this article to reset Winsock to it's default. Your PCTools may have inserted LSP.

After reset and restarting windows, you may get a prompt to remap LSP, click no.

you can check the success or failure by using the
form_success builtin.

When "Use Google Instant", "Open search results in a new browser window." does not function.

In the "Google Search Setting", if select "Do not use Google Instant", then the selected search result of Google Search will be displayed in a new window, but if "Use Google Instant", the selected result will replace Google Search window. This problem does not exist when using Chrome Browser.

That does what it says - even if Google tells the browser to open the page in a new window, you have told Firefox to ignore that and open it in a new tab. Uncheck the box and you should get the result you want.

Image won't open after right click and "open with" command using Editor PSE 10

Make sure you have chosen the application PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and not a shortcut.
To manually associate a file format with an application:
In Windows Explorer, right-click a file whose file association you want to change. For example, if you want to change the file association for all jpeg files, click a jpeg file.
Choose Open With > Choose Program from the pop-up menu.
In the Open With dialog box, click Browse and then locate and select the exe application file.
Checkmark "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK.
Note:If you choose a program from the Open With menu in step 2, instead of selecting the Choose Program option, this check box is not available, and the file association won't work.

Once I close iTunes I cannot open again without rebooting

Has search using google been replaced by search using websearch?

When i highlight some text and right click, the option to search using google has been replaced by a option to search using "WebSearch". Is this a recent firefox change?

Database Data Security: both from within (using MIMEbase64 encoding) and from without (using encryption).

In my MDB file databases (Jet 4.x format) I turn on both compression and encryption. This gives me data security from without, meaning, I can't open a MDB file in a Word Processing software (or otherwise) and read the data in a humanly recognized
format.   But I am also using MIMEbase64 encoding of my stored data so that the data is humanly unreadable from within - meaning that anyone performing an SQL query will not be able to humanly read the data in my database. I do the decoding
(from MIMEbase64) within my end-user software interfaces to the databases.
I found out just recently (last few months) that I can do this from Win32 Perl, so I encorporated this feature into my Perl database applications.   Only thing is that MIMEbase64 increases the size of the data stored.
Is there a better encoding strategy available today which might actually compress the data a little?

You should have little trouble writing the textfile encode/decode logic yourself.
(3) Read your list of unique codes into an array.

(5) select a random code and a random word(+punc) from the 2 arrays.
(6) now remove that code and that word(+punc) from each array using "splice".
(7) then save them as key/val pairs to persistent Perl SDBM database files ("mappings").

to an encoded textfile. Read in one line at a time from your textfile (chomp), parse the words(+punc.)
between whitespace within that line, then for each word(+punc) parsed, perform
the word-to-code mapping conversions by doing a lookup within the Perl SDBM database
file of key/val pairs, where KEY=word and VAL=code. You will then need to
concatenate these codes (space delimited) to your outputline, in the same order as found in your
inputline, finally writing the outputline (newline "\n" terminated) to your new encoded textfile.
(9) Keep your persistent Perl SDBM database file ("mappings") in SAFE KEEPING, with a naming
convention of your choice that perhaps hides any relationship to the name of
your encoded text document - which it specifically pertains to. But keep a record of that joint
relationship somewhere. Keep a copy of both the original textfile and the encoded textfile,
or perhaps you'd like to keep just the encoded textfile?, and not the original? You can always decode it.
(10) Send your encoded text document via email as an attachment, to the recipient of your choice.
(11) Upload your persistent Perl SDBM database "mappings" file to your secure login FTP download site.
NOTE: If your encoded text document is very large, you may want to reverse 10 & 11, putting the encoded file
on the FTP site, and sending the Perl SDBM database file ("mappings") as the email attachment.
(12) Call your recipient to see if they have received the encoded textfile, email attachment.
Let them know that the "mappings" file is uploaded for them to download from the FTP site.
You can have a LINGO you both use/know on the phone, to secretly convey this message, if you like,
to avoid possible interception of this sensitive information.
Recipient will then take the encoded textfile email attachment, the FTP downloaded "mappings" file,
and place them both in a directory on their PC where the Perl decoding program is located which you
had previously sent them to handle all the decoding anytime you send them an encoded textfile + "mappings".
Recipient will run the Perl decoding utility program to create the original textfile.

Can I use iWork '09 on Lion without using new Lion features?

I do not wish to use the new features in Lion, primarily autosave, with iWork, at least initially. In other words have iWork act as it would in S.L. However, I need to purchase iWork in order to continue using a bunch of Appleworks spreadsheets. I am using a new MBP with OS 10.7.1. My plan is to purchase the hard copy iWork '09 from the Apple Store (the AppStore download versions have already been updated). This CD should be some version of 9.0 as they have not put 9.1 on the CD. My idea is to just not let the modules (Numbers, Pages, etc.) get updated until I am ready. My question is -- will Numbers and Pages work properly on Lion without using the final update to the new Lion Features, and which updates to Numbers and Pages should I avoid?
Any help is appreciated.

Using toshiba canvio hard drive without using time machine

Has anyone used the Toshiba Canvio external hard drive to save files to without using time machine? I want to move files off of my computer onto the external drive not just duplicate all the files on my computer as a backup.

I guess the external drive is hanging off the Mac..
Getting access to the drive from PC should be possible.. you may need to move public directory onto the external drive and then set up permissions to do it.. I have not done it and simply would not do it.
External hdd are cheap enough buy one for the pc.. That is then formatted NTFS which windows is going to natively read.. this will be much easier if the backups are ever required than to use HFS+ formatted disk hanging off the Mac.

Use HCM processes and Forms without using the Enterprise Portal

is it possible to leverage existing HR Admin Services (HCM processes and Forms) functionality without using the Enterprise Portal?
1) Create an Adobe form and Interface using SFP
2) Set up ISR and Form Scenario
3) Set up Forms configuration to use existing Backend and generic Services
4) Set up workflow to updated Backend using Services
is it possible to do the above steps and not use the Portal? If Yes, how do we present the forms to the Manager, and provide different buttons that appears on the Portal by default?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Saurabh,
your assumptions and findings (items can not be started from the backend workflow inbox etc.) are correct: These processes can not be started without the Portal and it is not intended to do this.
The above mentioned backend report are only forseen for implementation and testing purposes and not for productive use.
In addition to the fact, that you already can't execute the work items a lot of other features of the framework (Process Browser etc.) are only available through the Portal.

Using Refcursor in Callable Statement without using the Oracle Drivers

Hello all,
Is there anyway to have a stored procedure (Oracle 8i) return a refcursor to my CallableStatement without using the Oracle Thin drivers (i'm now using jdbcodbc). I've tried registering my out parameter with every possible type i can think of...REF, JAVA_OBJECT, OTHER, etc. but with no luck.
