Word completion in Apple Pages

Hello,
I am a new Mac owner. I have been using the free word processor OpenOffice a lot recently, and one of the features it has is word completion (if you use a word that is more than nine letters long, it will offer to complete it for you if you press Return or, alternately, Tab). I read somewhere that this feature is available on Pages; does anyone know how to activate it?

The only thing I know of is the Automatically use the spell checker suggestion. It is found in the Pages preferences >  Auto correction

  • On iPad can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages app?

On iPad, can I open a Microsoft word file with apple pages application?  If so how do I perform this activity?

Yes you can open Word files. If it is an email attachment you can simply tap and hold down on the icon and select "open in" and then select Pages - as long as you have the Pages app on the iPad.
Where is the file on your iPad or how do you want to move it to the iPad?

  • Problems with a MS Word doc that was converted from Apple Pages

Hello.  I am writing a book and after completing most of the text in Apple Pages, I had to convert to MS Word to use the sidebar feature.  The MS Word document that I am working with has some very strange attributes.  Where quotation marks were used in Pages, the Word document substitutes material from a nearby page.  Where sections are underlined, it again mixes some of the original material wtih material from elsewhere in the book.  I have attempted to fix these issues by retyping the incorrect text, but when the document is saved, the next time I open it, more horrors lurk in the same places.
Has anyone experienced this?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I have done this, repeatedly, using OSX 10.7.6 & 10.9.2, Pages 4.3, and Word 14.1.0.  I did not experience the hassles you report, but then, perhaps my docs were simpler than yours.  But I did retain list features & outline structures from Pages to Word, and Word to Pages.  In-line graphics remained as such and as I recall, underlines, italics, and section lines remained intact as well.  Transferring both ways.
If you were doing your transfers using Pages 5.2, I recommend that you delete 5.2, revert to 4.3 if you possibly can (get an old .dmg copy from deep backup, a friend, whatever it takes)
I loved Pages 4.3.  I have removed Pages 5.2 from my system, best I can.

  • IMac won't print microsoft word doc "open with" apple pages

When its set to open with pages it just freezes the pages program and wont print. If I set it to open with textedit or some other program then it will print. Note, if I open it first with pages then it will print from within pages. It just wont print using file > print from the apple menu. Whats the fix for this? Currently I have it set to open all word docs in LibreOffice in order to print docs with ease. But I would rather use apple pages app.

I felt i had to come to help you if your problem was not solved.
I've a customer who just came up with this problem.  He is using Office 2003 on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits.  He is using also a Color LaserJet 2600n.  We just reinstalled his software on a new computer and we started experiencing "Current Printer Is Unavailable" in Excel.  When trying to access Page Setup, it was also giving us that same message, and
then we had a dialog listing every computer available.
We produced a PDF, tried to print from Acrobat Reader, it crashed too the same way you mentionned.
    Here's what happenned:
We first installed the driver available from HP web site
    We did some updates from Microsoft Web Site.  There was an optional hardware update for the LaserJet 2600n, so we installed it.  This update is completely {Language Filter Evasion}
Uninstall your printer driver (well, just remove it from your printer list)
Then reinstall it.  In our case, it was accessed thru IP.
When it was installing, it asked us to keep the same driver or REPLACE the driver...  pick-up REPLACE the driver!
And you are good to go...

  • Color changes when exporting to PDF from Apple Pages or Word

When I export to PDF from Apple Pages or Microsoft Word, there is a noticable color shift.
The RGB color values that are 23, 76, 140 in Pages for a medium shade of blue like this but appear as 50, 61, 134 with a decidedly purple cast like this in the PDF.
Has anybody else run into this problem?  Any tips for troubleshooting?

Thanks for the reply.  It was created using Apple Pages. I tried exporting to PDF in two different ways, both with the same result.
    1. Within Apple Pages, one can click File > Export > PDF
    2. The other option is to click Print > PDF > Save as PDF
I also tried this second method with Microsoft Word, and again the color was altered.  Any suggestions that you can provide to resolve this issue will be very helpful.

  • Will Apple Pages support a third-party font that is not compatible with Microsoft Word?

Will Apple Pages support a third-party font that is not compatible with Microsoft Word?  I do not want to purchase Pages unless I can use it for this one very specific purpose.  How can I determine the correct answer before purchase?
Many thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Hmmm ... I see the font in my Font Book and in Suitcase Fusion, but it doesn't appear on the list of fonts in either Word for Mac or Text Edit, no matter what I tried.  I attempted quitting all applications, cleaning the cache using Suitcase Fusion, and rebooting the computer, but no dice.
You think this is an installation or configuration problem my local Apple store could help fix ... not an underlying incompatibility?  If so, I will take it in.
Please know I sincerely appreciate the help.  I'm at my rope's end on a project this evening and truly grateful for the reinforcement.  Thank you.

Try to reset your phone, hold the home/sleep buttons until it reboots and the apple logo appears, don't release the buttons till apple logo appears.  If no luck there, Resync the book.  Or delete it and redownload it.  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Is it possible to create a tagged pdf with apple pages?

Not sure if possible and any tutorials would be appreciated.

    > Is it possible to create a tagged PDF with Apple Pages?
Short answer: No, Apple chose at the introduction of Mac OS X to support only Adobe PDF 1.3 and those parts of Adobe PDF 1.4 that include device-independent transparency, but not those parts of Adobe PDF 1.4 that include Adobe XMP for XML markup of the page description program.
Long answer: Adobe PostScript is a page description programming language, unlike Xerox Interpress which is a page and document description programming language. In other words, Adobe PostScript is a streaming or sequential rendering model that cannot simulate the behaviour of a bound book where the user can turn from any one page to any other page arbitrarily. Adobe introduced Acrobat Distiller in 1993 in order to convert Adobe PostScript page description programs into Adobe PDF page and document description programs that share the same fundamental functionality as Xerox Interpress.
Conversion from Adobe PostScript to Adobe PDF buys one nothing but page-independent processing. Specifications published by Adobe in 1993 state how the SFNT Spline Font file format used by Apple and Microsoft for Unicode imaging has to be re-encoded into PostScript font program dictionary format (PostScript so-called simple fonts with less than 256 glyphs and PostScript so-called complex fonts (CID fonts) which are simple fonts tiled into a single superfont). All that is left is the glyph identifiers, and per Unicode Specification version 1.0 the glyph identifiers are private and font-dependent, so no character information can be inferred.
ISO 19005:2005 PDF/A is a superset of ISO 15930:2002 PDF/X-3. The problem with ISO 15930:2002 PDF/X-3 is the same as above, that is, Adobe PostScript cannot encode the file format of the International Color Consortium, which has to be re-encoded to PostScript CSA Color Space Arrays and PostScript CRD Color Rendering Dictionaries. It is possible to encode the ICC file format directly in PDF 1.3 and higher, as specified in ISO 15930 and ISO 19005, but because PDF encodes only the glyph identifiers that are the output of the SFNT file format, and not the UCS Universal Character Set input and the settings for the feature selectors in the font file, ISO 19005:2005 has come under criticism for failing to support search in complex scripts.
ISO 19005:2011 is supposed to address the shortcomings by saving the UCS input into the PDF itself, but in this case it is impossible to use Adobe PostScript and Adobe Acrobat Distiller as intermediates to Adobe PDF. So in order to drive ISO 19005:2011 Adobe would have to ditch Adobe Acrobat. I am not sure if there is software that implements ISO 19005:2011, but I noted that the Apple iBook Store does not accept PDF at all. Personally, I struggle to think of how to explain to endusers the overwhelming number of Adobe ISO PDF formats (there is PDF/E, PDF/UA and whatever else), and the overwhelming number of Adobe ISO PDF versions of these formats (there is ISO 19005:2005, ISO 19005:2011, ISO 15930 all the way back to 1999/2000 in God knows how many versions at this point).

  • Way to copy text only from Adobe and paste into Apple Pages?

I tried upgrading to Adobe ExportPDF and exporting to Word in hope that it would translated OK to Apple Pages.  It did not, but I don't think it was because it had problems converting from Word to Pages. My guess is that it's because most of the text was wrapped around images.  I know this because on the text that was NOT wrapped around image, I was able to paste it, though it was not a smooth convert in the sense that some fonts were substituted, certain characters were smooshed together and the spacing was uneven.  That part was a conversion issue; however it is still more preferable than having to retype all the text.
Unless I can come up with another alternative this is what I will be forced to do on many, many PDF's that I need to convert (or successfully paste) into text-only documents.
It's weird because back in the day, I recall being able to simply highlight text that I wanted in a PDF document and then paste that text into a Pages document.  Then it all changed and Adobe doesn't seem to allow you be able to do that.
Can anyone come up with a workaround for this problem?  I don't have hours upon hours to convert all my PDF writing work into text only docs (to put on my online portfolio to make it easier for clients, etc., to read).
Any help with this problem would be most appreciated.

I don't know what "Apple Pages" are, but since you talk about ExportPDF, I will move your post to the appropriate forum.

  • Getting rid of 3 words at top of page on Safari

How can I get rid of 3 words at top of page left over from an earlier search on Safari?

First sorry for the spelling I am dislex..
If this is at the VERY top then it's sound to me as it's on the links bar. (is it?) if it is then this bar repersents the pages you have in your site as you add and remove pages so this bar changes, when you site is live/publised visiters to you site use this bar to move from page to page (it a menu).
I would say you have one page called welcome and one call blank. Each page on your website has setting that can be changed using the "Inspector" if you click on the page you want to change and then click on the icon"Inspector" at the botom of iWeb a panell will open up with the setting for the page/object if you make shour the page tab is chosen "page" will apper in the pannel you will see "Page Name" this is where you set the page name(as if you could not gess that one) and 2 tick boxes
    Include page in navigation menu.
    and
    Display navigation menu.
So on the pages you don't want to appear in the top navigation menu of the pages that have one you click this box
and on the pages you want to have a navigation menu you click the other or both
Have a play with them and enjoy
Steve (I do Not work for Apple)
P.S. almost all Mac apps I have see have a "Inspector" for objects and it is very powerfull play with it!!!! BUT REMBER WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

  • Printing a paginated brochure from Apple Pages

I created a paginated brochure in Apple pages.  I need to print 50 copies, but every print shop that I ask says I have to save the file as pdf in Microsoft Word before they can print.  How do I get my brochure printed directly from Apple pages without manually converting each page to another software program?  Are there any printing business that use Apple pages?  I live in Dallas, TX.

You don't need to create a pdf from Word!
Who are these people you are talking to? Did they fall on their heads as babies?
You need to search (try Google) for yourself to find a Printer with Macs. Even offer to pay for Pages if necessary, it is so cheap.

  • Apple "Pages" to PDF

A friend of mine uses Apple Pages to create a newsletter for our ministry.  When he used Pages to make a PDF it was over 20 megs in size.  I converted that PDF to Word, then back to a PDF and it was less than 1 meg.  Is there a way for him to use CSLive to make a PDF from his Pages file?

    Good day,
Your friend could save his files out of Pages as RTF files.  You could then use our CreatePDF service to convert those files to PDF.  Alternatively, he could purchase Adobe Acrobat and your friend would have the ability to create an Adobe PDF from the Pages print dialog box.
    Kind regards,

  • "an unknown error occurred" while producing epub in Mac Apple Pages (yosemite)

Apple Pages throws an entirely meaningless error when trying to produce an epub from iMac Apple Pages.
If I save the Pages as a Doc, open the Doc file and Export to epub it works, BUT... I loose things like header tags so can't convert to mobi and have chapters show up correctly. I've tried manually changing the mobi file, but it's a nasty, long winded process with mixed results. It would be nice if the old process simply worked.
If I select all and copy/paste from one pages file to a brand new pages file, I still get the error. This is stupidly frustrating and a complete waste of my time. The whole reason I switched from Windows to Mac was because I was sick and tired of these antics by Microsoft. Apple LIFT YOUR **** GAME!!!
This used to work perfectly fine before Yosemite screwed things up. Seriously, Apple, test your **** software before dumping it on us. At the very least, give us a meaningful message so we can do something about fixing things.
    Anyone with any ideas?
    Yours in frustration,
    Peter

I am getting this error whilst attempting to move NEF (Nikon RAW files) either between folders on the same hard-drive or between hard-drives (which are incorporated into my Lightroom catalogue).
Whenever I receive this error, a strange (locked) file appears in the directory/folder to which I intended to move the file and on examining this file in the terminal I can see that it contains the following error message: "cannot execute binary file...logout". The filename of this strange file is usually very random such as 470F00FF-9FBC-4517-84BF-26E52251B2B9-449-0000020C6A4DD5FD
I do not have any problems with missing sidecars and always select "save metadata to files" before attempting to move the files...can anyone figure this out?
