Word document is changing place on desktop after save

Hi!
I have more word documents ( .doc ) on my desktop. If i open it, and do some changes, and after saving and closing it, the file changes place on the desktop. If my file was placed on the the right side at
the desktop, after editing it, it will be moved to the left side. It will always move to the left side. I also noticed that this problem only occurs if my word file is saved as .doc. If i save my file as .docx, then it's fine. I have Windows 7 Professional
32 bit installed.
Can someone tell me, how to fix this?
Thanks,
kampi

Hi Luke,
Yes, i have a wide screen monitor ( Dell 2009W ) with a resoulotion of 1680x1050. However this happens also on a laptop ( Dell Latitude E6510 ) with a resulotion of 1600x900, so i don't think that the resulotion would be the problem. UAC is turned off.
I tried the clean boot method what you said. I have turned off everything, but the problem was still persist, so i think this could be some problem with word, because if i edit and save a .doc file, then a .tmp file will be created on the place of my original
file, and in the meantime the original file will moved to another location. It is interesting that on Windows XP this problem doesn't occured, not even a tmp file will be created and the .doc file stays on it position.
Unfortunetly the second method what you mentioned is not a solution, because then every time a user opens a .doc file, then he/she has to restore his/her icons.

  • How can I restore my Microsoft Word Documents which became Unix Executable Files after my Macbook Pro Crashed?

After my MacBook Pro suddenly crashed, we had Best Buy's Geek Squad attempt to save the files. According to them, they were successful in doing so and put all of the saved files in a folder on my desktop which they labeled "Backup". The problem is, all of the files are in a Unix Executable format. When you double click on any of them, they pull up the terminal and that's it. After researching the issue and trying to grasp what was going on, I learned that you can open these files in Text Edit and sometimes find the file extension (.png .jpeg .amr .qt) that belongs at the end of the filename in order for it to be pulled up. In doing this, I had some success restoring some photos, audio files, and videos. However, no luck at all in restoring any of my Microsoft Word documents or even finding out which Unix Executables are Word documents. I've even tried to add .docx to various files just to see if I would luck out. Nope .  Any help would be SO SO greatly appreciated!!!

Just to make sure, your Mac meets Snow Leopard's requirements?
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Yes, Lion does require that  you have Snow Leopard installed so you have access to the Mac App Store.
And you do need to be running v10.6.8 in order to upgrade to Lion >  http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
When you verified the startup disk using Disk Utility, what were the results?
Wouldn't hurt to do that again. From your admin account launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab. Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the startup disk needs repairing, boot from your install disk to make repairs >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
While you have the DU window open, check Capacity & Available at the bottom of the window. Make sure there is a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • When I save a pages document as a word document it changes!

I have created a document in pages. When I save as word document, it gets funky! Things shift all over.
Also, when I save as a pdf, many people complain they cannot open it, and if they can, it is illegible.
How do I fix both of these?

    dwb wrote:
but it was a problem I experienced repeatedly last year despite the fact that fonts are supposed to be embedded.
The fonts aren't supposed to be embedded. They are embedded.
After that, you may have applications proving that they are unable to display chars with the embedded datas but this is an other problem.
The Apple tool creating PDF embed fonts ( in fact a subset restricted to the really used characters ) since it's first delivery.
I bought the Countdown font more than ten years ago, so it may be described as an old one. It's made of two files : a bitmap one and a postscript one. Which is the worst structure given the late versions of the Apple tool.
My guess is that your problems where linked to the fact that Apple continue to create PDFs according to the version 1.3 when many appli are now assuming version 1.6 or higher.

  • How can I view a Word document  when it tells me that someone else is using the document? This is not true as I am the only one using this Word document which is on my desktop?

I am working on my Ancestry and today when I tried to view my Word document which awaits me on my desktop, I was told that someone else was using it. There is only me to use it, so there couldn't be anyone else. What can I try to open this document again?

    Hi,
If you want to move the document to other library immediately, the following workarounds for your reference:
1.Create an Event Receivers for document library and use SPFile.MoveTo
method to move file to the other document library.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sharepoint.spfile.moveto.aspx
    http://www.learningsharepoint.com/2010/07/04/programmatically-copy-and-move-documents-in-sharepoint-2010/
2.Create a workflow using SharePoint designer and use Copy List Item Action to copy file, then delete the current document.

  • Word Documents Tracked Changes

    Hi guys,
i just got my ipad. Is there any way to see tracked changes in word documents?
Its seems like documents to go can do this? Just wondering if any one is able to validate this.

Update. From the MacWorld Pages review:
"One extremely important note here: if you receive Word or Pages documents that contain tracked changes or comments, you’ll need to avoid Pages for iPad. Imported documents lose all comments and Pages for iPad automatically accepts any tracked changes. For me, this is a problem I can’t work around."
So as of this date, no. Maybe in a future release.

  • Loop through matrix before document saved (or get doc number after save)

    Hi All,
I would like to loop through the matrix of a document (e.g. an invoice) before it is posted to the database (when the add button is clicked), but I would like to know at that point whether the invoice will definitely be posted.  When you look at ActionSuccess, the items in the matrix are already cleared.
Alternatively I would like to get the number of the invoice that was added so I can loop through the invoice lines records in SQL.
I have looked at quite a number of posts on tjis forum, but none of them has a definite answer to either of the options - or none I could find at least
Your help is appreciated and thanks in advance,
    Adele

    Hi Adele,
Here some thoughts form Frank and me:
As you mention, it makes basically no sense to process anything in such a document when a user can still cancel the saving (what about approvals???!!!!!).
To do the checks "after save" there are two options:
An easier one which is not 100% reliable from a "data perspective" - and one which is 100% reliable, but is a bit more "dangerous" because you will need to rely on an event to come BeforeAction = True AND BeforeAction = False (remember the "BubbleEvent" etc.)
    Option 1.
(Not 100% (99.5%?) reliable is like suggested in some posts, but sometimes basic things are missed:
Use SQL in the ItemEvent handler:
    If pVal.ItemUID = "1" And
    pVal.EventType = SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_ITEM_PRESSED And
    pVal.ActionSuccess = True Then
"SELECT DocEntry FROM OINV WHERE UserSign = <internal number of user> AND UpdateDate = '<today>' AND DocTotal = <the value in UI> AND ...<maybe additional criteria as another person can reuse the user code - or a "DI API Add-On" may add a document in parallel>... ORDER BY DocEntry desc"
Theoretically it could happen that through a second connection / application instance a document could be posted at the same time. That's why this way is not 100% reliable...
Re time between "Add" and the SQL to retrieve the data being short (on what e.g. Florian relies on):
Please take in mind that you cannopt really count on the time being that short (milliseconds) when thinking about speed of the client PC, network traffic, users working at the same time with a company database, overall database response when working with a bigger database etc. etc.!!!
    Option 2.
In the ItemEvent handler when BeforeAction = True start a global transaction that will block the table. After the ActionSuccess (BeforeAction = False) make a select to the table to get the desired data, and finally end the Transaction by commiting the data.
    HTH,
    Felipe & Frank

    iOs 6.1.3
Ok I went and reset my phone up as new. So I go through the process of downloading my free apps. No big deal
Re-download app 1, then app 2, then app 3. On my phone they show in that order. But the I re-download app 4 and when I looka t my phone screen they show in this order
    1 then 2 then 4 then 3
app 4 being in the spot app 3 occupied
So wondering why app 3 got pushed over for app 4?
Is that just a glitch in the system that happens from time to time?

I was trying to see if there was any reason to it, but it wasnt alphabetical ( the app in question that was "relocated" started with H)
I thought maybe older to newer? But that wasn't it

  • Can open a SharePoint Word document but do not have option to save back to SharePoint.

Office 2013. I create documents in Word and save them to a folder in SharePoint. Certain users can click on the file in SharePoint, and open/edit the contents. But when they save the document by clicking the Save icon, the document is saved to the \temp
directory. When they select Save As and then select SharePoint, they have to browse to/find the directory (it is one of hundreds), and when they finally try to save it to the correct directory they over-write the document that is there, erasing all changes
    from other editors.
I have 6 people contributing to my documents on SharePoint, and 2 of them have this problem. All other users are fine.
I checked the Trusted settings on their computer but it seems they are carried over from the document I created...so I am stuck.

    Hi Kokiafan,
According to your description, my understanding is that some users could not save documents back to SharePoint by default.
You mentioned that you have checked the Trusted settings, where was the Trusted settings? Was it from IE or Office?
Please uncheck “Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe location” in the Trust Center of Office, compare the result.

  • Word documents located in a sparse bundle will not open after update to Lion

I have several files of Word documents created by Office for Mac 2008. These files are located in two different sparse bundles for security. One sparse bundle is the original. The second sparse bundle is a larger maximum size that I copied the original Word documents into.  My plan was to delete the original after I confirmed that the second larger one worked.   After updating to Lion, I also uninstalled Office for Mac 2008, and installed Office for Mac 2011.  Now when I try to open these Word documents, I get a message saying that Word cannot not open these documents because they may be in use or may have unacceptable symbols in the file name.  If I control click on the documents, I can see the document in Preview but still cannot open in Word.  In addition, I am able to open Word documents that are on my desktop. I tried moving my folders out of the sparse bundles by copying them to the desktop but this did not work either.
Help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

ok i created a hello world app to try a nail down this issue.
i created the app with version 1.0.0
uploaded it to my server on the net.
hit the web address from my phone, downloaded and installed
then changed the version number to 1.0.1
    uploaded this apk
    downloaded and installed to phone
app would then open for sec then close
only fixable by clearing application cache.
I can't believe the answer to this problem is not available by googling it.
has no one else encountered this?
please help, i am scared to release any updates to my programs - massive influx of email from mad users who can not open there apps.

  • Word file ownership changes after edit/save.

This may be a server issue more than Office, but I've come across some articles relating to this problem in Samba, and thought it might be similar.
I'm the Network Admin for a school district.  We have a file server that is setup with a file and folder structure that allows students and teachers to access and share documents.  One teacher came to me with a problem.  Students are able
to create and save Word documents to an assignment folder.  The teacher then goes into the document, makes changes and enters notes, then saves the document back to the folder, overwriting the original.  The problem is that once she has done so,
the student can no longer access the document.
After investigation and testing, I've found that ownership of the file is changing from the student to the teacher.  This is a problem based on the way that the ACL is set on the folder.  The students' access is based in the creator/owner attribute.
The fact that the ownership is changing once the teacher opens and edits the document is causing the student to no longer have access to the file.
My question is, is there a setting or other change that can be made to Office so that ownership is not transferred to the teacher?  Giving each user explicit rights to each file and/or folder isn't really an option when I have 3000 students to
deal with.  Again, this may be a server side issue, but I've not seen this problem with other programs.

I'm picking this up because I have the exact same problem.
Students are given Write access to a folder (So they can save their work)
Teachers are given Modify acccess to a folder (so they can add comments, etc)
CREATOR/OWNER is given Read/Execute so students could read teacher comments, but not make changes to the document once it has been saved.
When I test it with my admin account, it works great.  I can update the document and the student can open it to see my comments, but not change the document anymore without saving to a different location.
When I test it with a teacher account, the document changes ownership as soon as the teacher saves.  Once the ownership changes, the student no longer has permissions through CREATOR/OWNER and they can't open the document to see the comments anymore.
I can't see why this works when my account makes the changes, but not when a teacher account does.  We are doing the exact same things in Word.
Here is an example of the permsions as they exist on a sample document.  In the example, my admin account (which works fine) gets it's permissions through BUILTIN\Administrators:
    PS H:\> $acl = get-acl "L:\TeacherShare\S2 3(A) Study Hall - Half Year\Submissions\StudentWork.docx
    PS H:\> $acl.access

  • Why does my word document change to a docx when sending?

Each time I send a word document it changes to a docx and no-one can open it - how do I change the settings for this please?

It generally means that you created the document with Word 2010. That is the native file type for that version of Word. If you are sending to a person with an older version of Word you might need to save it as a .doc file.
    This is a Microsoft thing.
Thunderbird does not change the file type of any attachments.

  • Can't open sent Word documents

I have been getting more and more emails with Word attachments. When I try to download them, a Word document icon appears on my desktop, but when it is downloaded, the icon changes to a folder with the document name, but in a folder. When I open the folder it has three items in it. First, there is a file with an html icon labeled "[Content Types].xml", then, there are two folders, "_rels"; and "theme".
I cannot figure out how to open these emails. I can send them to my wife's PC, and she can open them, save them to rtf and send them to me. I am getting more and more of these attachments, so I need to open them directly.
I wonder if these come from Vista PCs. Does anyone know what they are and how I can get them to open on my iMac? Thanks.

Mac users using Word 2004 who receive a Word 2008 for Mac, (or Word 2007 for Windows) document, will not be albe to read this without having the Open XML Converter installed, which can be downloaded from Microsoft.
    Go to this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
and click on the right under Most Popular, 'Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0'
This opens a window at the bottom of the page. Scroll that to the bottom and click on English.dmg, and it will download for you as a disk image, which can be installed in the usual way.
After installation you can open and read .xml formatted Word 2008 documents in Word 2004.

  • InDesign CS6 not linking to source Word document

When I had Adobe Cs4 when I place a word document in InDesign a link was created to the source documenent. If the word document was changed, when InDesign checked for errors it prompted me to update the link document. Now when I place a word document in CS6 it does not creat a link. If the word document is changed I cannot update the indesign unless I delete everything and place the word document again. Is there a better way?

Thank you so much. I did just that and it's working just fine.
The geniuses at Adobe told me that there was no such option.

  • Importing word documents - but losing all images which was in it

    Hi,
I am fairly new to Robohelp and recently got hold of Robohelp 8.
I have already written a Help File for my company's recent product, and the help file was in word 2007 with a lot of screenshots of icons, buttons and dialog boxes pasted in it.
On importing the word document to Robohelp, none of these images are being imported and I cannot see any of them in the project view.
I wanted to use the link to word document feature so that i do not have to keep re-importing the document for any changes made - however, because the images are not being imported, i now have to add them manually to the project.
1 - this is tiring and very time consuming
2 - the project files to which i add the pictures are no longer updated from the word document if any of the text changes as the project is preserving the changes i made to the file (which was only adding the image manually). Kind of defeat the purpose of link to the word document.
    HELP
I would really appreciate any help in
1 - How to import a word document containing images (screenshots, icons etc) without losing the images
2 - Keep the word document to update the project even after i add any images to the project manually.
    Thanks
    Nivekz

    Hi again
    Thanks for the clarification.
Okay, so really what you are doing is identical to clicking File > Import > Word Document, because all you are doing by choosing PDF is pre-selecting PDF as the listed file types. Once you change it to point to Word documents it's no different.
    Cheers... Rick
