Word opening in Client Application in SharePoint document library when feature is not activated in manage features in site collection

Hello, I wish for all Word documents to open in the browser for my SharePoint document library on my team site.
The feature 'open in client application' is not activated in Features for the site collection and the setting in the document library is set on 'Use the server default (open in the browser)
When I select File > new> from the ribbon in the document library - it still opens Word in the client application?
Any ideas on this?
Is there a general Office 365 setting over riding SharePoint somewhere?
Regards
kegan1

Okie don't open up a ticket. Can you please open internet explorer...See if its the latest version. Once you have done that can you login to the SharePoint site. Then go to the internet wheel option  in top right corner > select manage add on >
Click on toolbars and extensions on left > then click on SharePoint open documents in client and disable it. Close the browser completely now for the changes to take effect. Open internet explorer once again and then try to go to site collection click on
file and create new. The word will open up in browser now. This has to be done on each and every machine in your firm so that users will be able to open up only in browser. Out of the box there is only one way is to customize the ribbon and remove the new
option from there or creating an all together new ribbon for your SharePoint from visual studio.

  • FI documents effect when controlling was not activated

    Hi Experts,
    I have one issue regarding when the controlling was not activated.
    I posted some FI documents relating expenses etc. that time contrllong module was not configured. Now controlling was configured. Can i show that expense documents effect in controlling which are posted in FI previously.
    Thanks and Regards
    Balu

    Hi,
    If the controlling Module is activated subsequently, the earlier will not get updated automatically. System will not be able to identify to which cost center the document should get updated.
    Probably, some custom program needs to be used to update the Cost Centers for the earlier documents.

  • Ssrs sharepoint 2013 error: "A delivery error has occurred ...not a sharepoint document library..."

    Greetings SSRS/SharePoint experts,
    SharePoint 2013 with SSRS - Creating a subscription to a report that is in SharePoint
    I'm trying to create a subscription to publish a report to a sharepoint document library.
    I've configured all the settings and on clicking OK get the following error:
    "A delivery error has occurred. ---> Microsoft.ReportingSerives.Diagnostics.Utilities.DeliveryErrorException: A delivery error has occurred. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InvalidExtensionParameter: One of the extension
    parameters is not valid for the following reason: The delivery path is either not a SharePoint Document Library Folder or does not exist in the Share Point farm."
    SQL Server Developer Edition 2012 SP1
    SharePoint 2013 Standard
    Just wondering if anyone has a solution.
    I've tried changing the proxy settings as per this post
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/19817dc7-6725-40d8-befa-1b94099a71bd/sql-server-2012-reporting-services-in-sharepoint-2013-integrated-mode-dilivery-extension
    Workaround is to not use a sharepoint document library but write the report to a windows file share (this works but is not optimal).
    Hoping someone at Microsoft or an expert will come back with something.
    Kind regards

    Hi,
    Can you check the SharePoint ULS log located at : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, and look at the log there when the error occurs?
    You can also check the Application Event Log on the SQL Server to see if there are any additional errors.

  • Document library open in client application not working for img,pdf,txt files

    In an office 365 sharepoint site i have enabled open in client applicartion for document library but it is not working for image/txt/pdf files for word and excel files it is working fine. I have even turned on the feature open document in client application
    by default from site collection features also but there is no change.
    Please advice.
    Regards,
    Chaitanya

    Hi Chaitanya,
    The feature is currently designed to be used with HTTPS, and will not work as expected with the HTTP connection available on Office 365 for professionals and
    small businesses sites.
    To take advantage of this update, do the following steps:
    Wait for the update to the SharePoint Online service, which is in progress now.
    Upgrade Adobe Reader to the version 10.1.2 client.
    Add your SharePoint Online root URL/domain to the Trusted Sites security zone in Internet Explorer1 (e.g.,
    https://contoso.sharepoint.com).
    Check the Keep me signed in box when you log in to a SharePoint Online site.
    This
    SharePoint Online update is currently
    being rolled out worldwide along with several other new features.
    Best regards.

  • Open Office files in client application in Sharepoint Search

    Is there a way to have all users of a SharePoint farm open Office documents that show up as search results in our Enterprise Search Center within their client applications and not in the Office Web Apps?
    I know i can do this manually for me from the Search Result page > Preferences. But is there a way to do this
    automatically for every user? Couldn't find it on the internet.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Simon,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open office documents in client application in SharePoint Search results.
    In order to open search results in the client application, you had to alter the Item_CommonItem_Body.html search results display template.

    the option to open a PDF in the browser is based on the Web Application's list of allowed MIME types... it cannot be controlled on a per-library basis.

    How  to Rename a File in a SharePoint document library through Client object model?
    Thanks
    Poomani Sankaran

    Hi,
    According to your description, you want to rename file in the document library using SharePoint Client Object Model.
    Here is a code snippet works well in my environment for your reference:
    static void Main(string[] args)
    string url = "http://sp2013sps/sites/test/";
    ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext(url);
    Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.List spList = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("Documents");
    clientContext.Load(spList);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    if (spList != null && spList.ItemCount > 0)
    Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.CamlQuery camlQuery = new CamlQuery();
    camlQuery.ViewXml =@"<View> <Query> <Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='LinkFilenameNoMenu' /><Value Type='Computed'>New Microsoft Word Document.docx </Value></Eq></Where> </Query> <ViewFields><FieldRef Name='Title' /></ViewFields> </View>";
    ListItemCollection listItems = spList.GetItems(camlQuery);
    clientContext.Load(listItems);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    listItems[0]["Title"] = "word.docx";
    listItems[0]["FileLeafRef"] = "word.docx";
    listItems[0].Update();

  • Run macros on all word documents inside sharepoint document library

    Hi,
    i want to run macros on all word documents which resides inside sharepoint document library.
    please help me.

    hi
    macroses are running in opened Word document process memory. In Sharepoint code is running in IIS process, so you probably have to rethink your requirements and see how you may do the same actions not by macroses, but e.g. by event receivers.

  • Advice needed for provider hosted web application - authentication and access to SharePoint document library

    I haven't done SharePoint 2013 development with claims so I apologize in advance if my assumptions and questions are way out in left field.
    I'm trying to understand SharePoint 2013 claims authentication for a scenario that involves:
    A SharePoint provided hosted (web forms) app that will pull information and assets (e.g. PDFs) from SharePoint into the web page.
    It will be a VS 2012 solution with asp.net.identity feature.
    Security will be set for internal users, federated external users and forms-based external users.  Based on their security and (claim type) role it will define what information and assets that can be retrieved from SharePoint
    I have looked through MSDN and other sources to understand.
    This one helped with my understanding
    Federated Identity for Web Applications and assumed that the general concept could be applied to forms-based identity for non-Federated external users .
    What I have now:
    VS 2012 solution web forms application set to Provider Host with asp.net.identity feature and its required membership tables.
    I can create new users and associate claims to the new user.
    I can log in with a user from the membership tables and it will take me to a default.aspx page.  I have added code to it that displays the claims associated to a user.
    For POC purposes I'd like to retrieve documents that are associated to this user from the default.aspx page.
    This is where I am having trouble understanding:  Is my understand correct?
    Internal users
    since they are internal on the network i am assuming that they would already have access to SharePoint and they would already be configured to what documents that they have available to them.
    Federated external users & Forms authentication external users
    it seems to me that the authentication for external users are separate from SharePoint authentication process.
    changes to the configuration settings are necessary in SharePoint, IIS, web application.
    I believe this is what i read.
    claims processes (e.g. mappings) need to be set up in SharePoint
    as long as external users are authenticated then things are ok b/c they would have claims associated to the user and the configuration in SharePoint takes are of the rest.
    This statement bothers me because I think it's wrong.
    So basically i'm stuck with if my understanding is correct: once a user is authenticated either by federated identity or asp.net.identity authentication that it should go to the provider hosted default.aspx page because the claim is authenticated and means
    that it should have access to it and the SharePoint document library based on some claim property.  I could then write the calls to retrieve from a document library and SharePoint will know based on some claim property that the logged in user can only
    access certain documents.
    It just sounds too good to be true and that i'm missing something in the thought process.
    Thanks in advance for taking the time to read.
    greenwasabi

    Hi GreenWasabi,
    i agree this is an interesting topic to discuss,
    as you can check from the article, you may check this example from the codeplex:http://claimsid.codeplex.com/
    when i thinking regarding this topic, its looks like an environment with multiple of realms,
    from what you understand, its correct that all the authentication is based from the provider, so for example i have a windows live ID and internal ID, then when i login windows live ID, it will be authenticated using windows live ID server.
    here is the example for the webservice:
    http://claimsid.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Federated%20Identity%20for%20Web%20Services&referringTitle=Home
    as i know, if you using this federated, i am not quite sure that you will need to go to the provider page literally, perhaps you can check this example if we are using azure:

  • Files Uploaded using Mapped Drive (UNC) to SharePoint Document library Putting a copy in Recycle Bin , odd SharePoint Behaviour

    Hello All,
    One of my client reported a strange behaviour.
    Client mapped SharePoint document library to local share(UNC, NetWork Map Drive). Opened MS Word on local machine ,saved it to the share on his local machine. The document is saved successfully to SharePoint document library. But at the same time he can
    see a file with same name in Recycle bin and the size of the document in Recycle bin is <1k.
    Does any one know whether it is expected behaviour, why SharePoint putting this 1k file in Recycle bin?
    I tried the same thing on my Dev Environment for both SharePoint 2010 and 2013, in both environments the behaviour is same as my client experience.
    I have seen in forums some other people also experiencing this odd behaviour, but no one knows why.
    any info on this much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
    i tried in my environment for 2010 and 2013. The issue doesn't occur.
    Here is what i did.
    1, Create a new mapped drive(\\servername\DavWWWRoot\Shared Documents) for document library
    2, New a Word doc and input some string, save in the mapped drive.
    3, The doc exists in the document library, but no file in Recycle Bin.
    Did i miss something?

  • Authentication prompt issue when opening an office file in a document library with read permission for domain users

    An user as part of the domain users tries to open an office file from a document library but he got an authentication prompt asking him to authenticate. Domain users has only access to this library and not to the whole site. This uses to work in SharePoint
    2007 without any problem but not in SharePoint 2013, we didn't have a workflow on SP2007.
    Domain users has read access to only this document library in the site, but he shouldn't get an authentication prompt since he is part of the domain users and he is not trying to modify the document, he can open the document but gets two prompts, he can't
    also see the list using explorer view since nothings appears using the explorer view.
    Now, when opening the file, we can see..Updating Workflow Status, but we don't have any workflow working on this site or library, event any feature related to workflow.
    If we go to the event viewer in the server, we find this information,
    I also checked this thread but I couldn't find this scenario.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/91bc770b-bb70-4885-a4ad-a243edb88753/event-id-8026-workflow-soap-getworkflowdataforitem-failed-doc-library-no-workflow?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
    I also created another list with the same permissions and using other office files but got the same behavior.
    Now, we have migrated this site from SP2007 to SP2013.
    Any ideas?

    OK, I am going to throw out a lot of ideas here so hopefully they get you closer to a diagnosis. Hang on :)
    Does it happen to work for some users but not others? If so, try logging in on the "good" computer with the "bad" username. This will tell you if the problem is related to the end-user's system. Also, once the user downloads a document
    successfully can they open and work on it in Word? Also, does the document library have any custom content types associated with it or does it just use 'Document'?
    I notice that there are other folks on the web that have run into this same problem and the similarity seems to be that they are either on SharePoint 2007 or have upgraded from 2007. Did this doc library start out as a 2007 library?
    What you might want to do is this: Make a site collection from scratch in 2013 (or find one that you know was created in 2013). Choose team site (or whatever you want) for the root web and set up the security the same way you have it on the malfunctioning
    library. Now, use windows explorer to copy and paste some of the documents to the new location. Be sure you recreate any needed content types. Now test it from the troubled user's computer.
    I'm thinking there may be something that is different about the library since it was migrated through various versions and updates since 2007. I've sometimes found that there can be problems (especially with user profiles but that's a different story) with
    things that go through this evolution.

  • How to display the thumbnail view of the documents in Sharepoint Document Library

    Is there a way that we can have the thumbnail view of the documents that are uploaded in SharePoint Document Library. We have thumbnail feature in Picture Library but can we have the same in Document Library too. Documents includes Words,Excel,PDF.
    Any Suggestions Please

    Hey Mike,
    Good post, I'd be curious to see if anyone has used the GD Picture SDK with SharePoint, maybe there would be some sample code.
    Hey Kukdai,
    Developing your own solution would potentially provide a better way to accomplish your task, but before setting out on that long road you may want to try the simple customization, it's less time consuming and it will help gauge your customer's interest and
    support.
    Also, there is a wealth of open source code for SharePoint available on CodePlex, you might want to check that out as well.  Here is the linK:

    Also, here is an interesting project to consider for your task:

    I hope that helps!

  • Setup a template document in a SharePoint document library

    I created a template for a document library in SharePoint Online.  I configure it so when the user needs to open a new document the template opens.   It works if you go to Files\New Document, but if you click on the New Document link
    in the document library when you select word the default template opens.  How can I get the new document link in the document library to open the template document that I created?
    Thanks
    Judy

    Its simple.. Go to the document library template which you have created. Then go to its library settings. Then go to advanced settings and select allow management of content type to yes. Then try to click ok and scroll down to find the option add from
    existing site content types and then add your template which you have created and click ok. Once you have done that you will be able to see the option of that template when you click new. If you still don't get it then you can open a service ticket from the
    sharepoint portal and post your ticket number here and I will try to reach you as soon as I can to take care of the issue from there. If you find this information useful, then propose this as an answer and vote. Thanks.
