Word processing - printing - or transfer to Mac

I would like to get a good word processing app. and be able to transfer the page to my Mac or print it through Airport Extreme to one of my printers.
I have iWork on my Mac but don't use it. I use Appleworks WP and data base.
I know Pages is available for the iPad but don't know how good it is as compared to other apps. that are mentioned.
Any suggestions....
Harold

Documents to Go (or Office2 HD) will produce your document.
Dropbox is a free Cloud service that syncs with your iPad, iPhone and all your Macs/PCs.
Print n Share is wonderful app that can print directly from your iPad.
So, Docs2Go, save to Dropbox and print from Print n Share.

  • Word processing with citations software for Mac?

What is your choice for word processign with citations software for Mac?  I am a graduate student.  So, being able to enter citations and compile a bibliography/works cited pages is a must.
In the past I have always used MS Word, as I was a WIndows user in the past.  Pages doesn't seem to have the same capabilities as Word.  I have read a little about using Endnote and Bookends with Pages.
What is your preference, and why?

I have some questions for you:
How is the printer connected? Wireless or USB?
Can you make copies with the printer?

  • How can I load word processing software onto my Apple Mac?

    Hi
Is it possible to install word processing software on a new Apple Mac? I've found something called 'Pages' but I can't work out how to buy it or install it.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are different word processing apps you can use in your Mac:
Microsoft Word for Mac. Included in Office for Mac, it provides full compatibility with Microsoft Office for Windows and it's probably the app with more features > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Apple Pages. You can buy it on the Mac App Store, but you can download it for free if you have got a new Mac (open the App Store and go to Purchases). It has got a new interface, but some users have complained about its lack of features. As it's free, you can give it a try.
LibreOffice. Free and open-source, one of the most recommended applications > http://www.libreoffice.org

  • What word processing programs come on a mac mini

also is there any good free ones for a mac? thanks

I think you only get a demo version of Microsoft Office, and TextEdit, the regular Mac text editor... this may not be what your are looking for.
You can then purchase iWork or get Neo Office, which is free, and pretty good.
Also, you may want to take a look at VersionTracker or MacUpdate to find some shareware that may suit your needs.

  • What is the word processing application on Snow leopard?

I recently had my old Mac quit and had to replace it with a newer G5 (snow leopard OS 10.6.2) with a 20 inch screen. I was used to using appleworks for my word processing program on my old Mac, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what application to use on my new Mac to replace it! If I hadn't had the Windows for Mac disk to install, I wouldn't know what to use on the new one. I may sound pretty dumb, but this has me stumped.

So, your computer is a G5 now, or have you upgraded to an Intel-based Mac?
Your signature line in your post is confusing - since Snow Leopard 10.6 won't
run on PowerPC-based Mac hardware. And this is the Leopard 10.5 forum area.
Neo Office is a good choice; be sure to check later to find any separate update
download files, if they exist for the version build available.
    • TextWrangler can do more than basic TextEdit, including some features found
on the software writer's higher-end product. See the BareBones Software site:
    http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler/ - TextWrangler runs free.
There are several other options that work well & cost little to nothing.
You may be able to use Google's Documents in some cases.
{If you have the original install disc for AppleWorks, or the software discs that
came with a different Mac which included AppleWorks (restore-install disc) it
is possible to use the demo (limited use) aspect of Pacifist to extract the AW
application from the factory install disc that won't run on a newer Mac, & have
    Pacifist install the extracted files from the desktop of your current Mac...}
    • Pacifist: http://www.charlessoft.com/
If the old *AW 6.2* software is not in use at the time in another Mac, & you own
the disc it resides on, you could probably do that and it should work OK. I've
tried it and you have options in that install, including other language versions.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another (both OSX)?

Hello, I have not found a detailed description on how to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another.
My issue is that I have a Mac G5 with 3 different settings saved as "presets" for the same printer. This works great, since the posters I print (on the large format printer) need different margins and different paper at times.
This G5 is basically retired and only used for printing. G5 has OSX 10.3.9
I have a MacPro as its replacement (OSX 10.4.11).
The MacPro has all my apps and other settings setup to my liking.
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
If someone would list the steps needed to accomplish the transfer of printer settings or advise if this is possible, then I would be very grateful! The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
    Thanks!

Hi SCChelpdesk, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
This is the File that holds that info on Tiger, not certain on Panther...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
After moving, you very well might have to change the Owner's Permissions within Get Info window, then log out/in.
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
MA would transfer the info, but/and, if the user that had that info had the same Shortname as on the new one, it'll demand you give it a new Shortname to use... but then those settings would be transferred to that new user on the new machine. I think the 1st one will work though.
The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
We can go through that way if you like... not all that hard.

  • Batch processing (printing) MS Word files as Postscript

Is there a way to take a folder full of MS Word docs (Word 2004) and print them (save them) as postscript files to a specified folder, without changing their names except to add the.ps extension?
I can do this now one at a time via Word and the print dialog, and I've looked at the sample "Convert To PostScript.scpt" that is in the library, but I can't seem to figure it out.
There should be a way for me to select a number of .doc files in folder A, drag them onto the script, have each one open in MS Word, then have it use the print dialog automatically to save as a postscript file in folder B, then close without changing the original Word doc, correct?
Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

    Would PDFs suffice?
I recently had a similar need and I ended up installing the "CUPS-PDF" Virtual Printer...
    http://www.codepoetry.net/projects/cups-pdf-for-mosx
Then I scripted the Printer Setup Utility to switch to the Virtual Printer, open the docs one at a time in Word, print, close, repeat, the PDFs all end up in a folder on the desktop named "cups-pdf"... the filenames are slightly changed but still recognizable (spaces become underscores) and then looped through those files, renaming and moving them to where I needed them to be.

tell application "System Events" to exists process "Printer Setup Utility"
    set wasPrinterSetupUtilityRunning to result
    tell application "Printer Setup Utility"
    set SavedPrinterSetting to current printer
set current printer to printer "Virtual Printer"
    end tell
...open each document in Word, print, close
-- restore printer and quit Printer Setup Utility, if it wasn't open before

    set current printer to SavedPrinterSetting

  • Hi there, I have a Macbook Pro and I have been using Libre Office but I am not happy with it. I need a good word processing package to produce a manuscript and don't know if I have to get Word for Mac and how to put my documents into it.

    Hi there and hello everybody.
I am writing a book and have been using Libre Office and would like a better word processing package.
I have heard that Pages 5 is better than the latest one. I need to be able to put my Libre Office documents
into Pages. Anyone know how to do this please?

    magathon wrote:
Thanks. So would you say Word is the best processing package? And how do I choose which package 'opens' them.
This is a basic computer skill you might want to learn. You can always control which application opens any document, and the steps below apply to any Mac or Windows computer you use:
Method 1: Drag the document icon on top of the application (Word, Pages, LibreOffice...) icon and release. The system will open the document in the application you dragged it to.
Method 2: Go into the application (Word, Pages, LibreOffice...) and choose File/Open. Locate and select the document, and click the Open or OK button.
Method 3: Select the document icon and choose File/Open With, then choose the application you want to open the document with.
The only time these don't work is when the application cannot open that type of document. For example, you usually can't make a photo editor open a text file. But Word, Pages, and LibreOffice all know how to open text files, RTF files, and Word files.
But if it is important that the document formatting is exactly preserved when exchanging with other Word users, you really should use Word. If you can't afford to pay the retail price for a copy, Microsoft now lets you use Office for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year.

Not quite. Downloading the current version of NeoOffice is definitely not free (downloading the previous version is). The developers of NeoOffice (the most Mac-like of the StarOffice descendants) make a distinction between the application itself (which is free) and downloading it, for which they require what they are pleased to call a "donation" (since it's mandatory, I would call it a fee).

Indeed. For basic WP tasks, TextEdit can be quite satisfactory.

I only need it for reports
Would that include the report on the state of the US economy -- you know, the one President Obama asked you to deliver to the White House no later than 7AM on January 4? The one in two columns, with numbered paragraphs, table of contents, footnotes, mathematical formulae, 40 figures, 60 charts, quotations in Arabic, Japanese, and classical Greek, and 15 pages of references in APA style?
Grant Bennet-Alder is right -- "the real answer depends on what work you expect to do with it, and with whom you expect to do this work". There are dozens of word processors for Mac, from the venerable Word to the no less venerable Tex-Edit+. It would pointless to start listing them all, when many of them might be either too little or too much for your needs.

Both these situations have cropped up on my MacBook Pro since the last update.

The 'Winmail.dat' problem has been extensively covered in these forums, I would search for that (a Google search works well) and unfortunately I have not seen the pdf print problem before, but assuming the software is current and functions normally (other than the pdf print problem) I have no suggestion other than the obvious (but time consuming) re-installation of Office.
