Word to PDF Messes Up Formatting

Hello Forum,
I have a Word Document that does not translate exactly the same to PDF when I convert. I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro.  It is only messing up with one page out of a 43 page document, and it's not a problem with the cover page or anything.  It seems like maybe it is adding one additional line to the page in question when converting to the PDF?  If I go back to the Word document and delete one line of text on that page, the pagination issue is fixed.  And the documents look identical again.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!
Emily

I'm using Word 2003 and Adobe Acrobat Pro v. 9.  Unchecking the "Use Printer Metrics to Layout Documents" box worked perfectly!  For future reference, find it by doing Tools > Options and then selecting the Compatibilty tab.  Thanks!!

  • How do you convert a pdf to word if it has XFA format

Trying to convert a government form to word from pdf but got the following error message: PDF files containing XFA forms cannot be saved to the specified format.   Also tried exel or rich text with no success.  Any help would be appreciated

Yes, normally the whole point of making it an XFA is so you can type in it. You must use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to fill it.

  • With Yahoo! Mail attachments are put together in zip format I can't open, but when I switch to Internet Explorer these same attachments open easily as Word or PDF files; how cn I fix?

Two recent emails (Yahoo! Mail) each contained multiple attachments which were presented to me as zip files which were in a format that my computer could neither open or convert to files I could open. One was two Word documents; the other was five one-page PDFs. I tried with Firefox on two different computers with same results. When I switched to Internet Explorer, I was able to open the attachments each as separate Word or PDF files, with no trouble. Am I doing something wrong?

instead of writing such an essay, you could have explained better what you tried to do to get them.

Create a Custom Page Size with the same dimensions as your document within a new Joboptions file and then use that new Joboptions file when you convert your square document to PDF.

Michael's reponse is correct. However, as far as I knew, OFFICE 2007 came with printer metrics turned off, meaning it is not supposed to be sensitive to the printer selection. The setting is buried in the options list for compatibility. If it is turned off and a change in printer does affect the result, it would appear just one more of the many things in OFFICE 2007 that MS messed up. The latest one for me has been helping students with the messed up equation editor when you want to add equation numbers in a "standard" way. One of the MS employees even wrote a workaround macro for that problem.

  • If you need to send more than one document via email to a recipient with a PC, how do you convert them to a Word or PDF before sending them in one email?

When trying to send an email to a PC user and need to send multiple documents, in the old version of iPages, you could save the document as a Word or PDF file then attach them to the email.  I don't see how to do this with the new version.  Therefore, the only way I can see to accomplish this task is to go to each document and send them individually in another version.  Otherwise, the PC user will not be able to view the documents - correct.  There must be a way to convert and save the documents like before so numerous documents can be sent at once.  Please help!

What fruhulda said. In addition, in the Mail composition window, I recommend that you select the paperclip icon from the Toolbar, and enable Send Windows-Friendly Attachments.
You can also select multiple files in the Finder and drag them onto the composition window. In my experience, the documents resist an iconic state, so right-click on just one, and choose View as Icon from the contextual menu. This will transform all attached documents into icons.
If you want to send just one document from within Pages v5, use the Share icon in the Toolbar and select Send a Copy > Email. You can then choose PDF (and its image quality), or Word (.docx default, or .doc) document formats that will be attached as an icon in a new pop-up Email composition window.

  • Advange of using Adobe Acrobat over Microsoft word 2007 PDF add -in

    Hi,
I would like to know what is the advantage of using Adobe Acrobat 9 standard or professional over Microsoft Word 2007 PDF addin. Microsoft will ship the PDF convertor with SP2 later this month, in that case what should be the use of using adobe acrobat to convert a document to PDF and not use microsoft word built in features.
This is just a doubt which arouse and thought if I could ask here, thought to control some adobe acrobat licenses being used in our environment.

I have found that some of the links and other items just to not work well with the add-in from MS. However, with OFFICE 2007, it appears that MS has put some hooks in the system to screw up Acrobat. Typical pages that are produced with Acrobat get cut into sections (a graphic will be chopped into multiple graphics and pasted together). I say this is OFFICE only from the perspective that we have tried it with OFFICE 2007 and both AA7 and AA8 and gotten the same result. When we used the same file in OFFICE 2003 with AA7, the PDF was fine. So when you complain about the PDFs created by OFFICE 2007 and Acrobat, you may be seeing something that is a result of OFFICE, not Acrobat. Generally they still look good, it is only in some detail where you will see problems.
A major advantage we found with Acrobat is that it did not have issues with messing up the links that the MS add-in had. You can try some of this yourself, but that is a summary of our conclusions. Bill

  • Word to pdf

    Hi,
Can i have some help here? I have been creating froms with word and save them as pdf. But when i open them in reader or Acrobat 9 pro, i am not able to use checkboxes and so on. Checkboxes loses their function. I know i can do them all from the begining in acrobat but i have so many of them. This option will take alot of time..
Is there a easy way to fix this?

    Hi back,

                            Hi phenomati,
Unfortunately once you move them to PDF they are turned into 'read' format. Is there a reason you are not creating the forms using your Acrobat 9 PRO version?

  • Acrobat Pro XI . converting of excel and word to pdf

After installing Acrobat Pro XI two days ago, the conversions of excel and word to pdf are less than optimal.  Poor fonts, color and sometimes blurry.

That's very kind of you Bill.
Since my last forum post I have uninstalled Acrobat Pro, - with its updates - and reinstalled the original from disk. The conversion from Word 2007 to PDF is working fine. And that was where I was prepared to leave it. Of course any updates would not be possible.
However, since you have offered to help, I'd be most grateful of any assistance.
To answer your question, the usual way I create PDF files from Word is from within the open Word program. From there I can simply 'Save As' to PDF format.
That's the way MS says to do it. Is there another way? The updates stop this working. The process begins but then stops part way through and dies. No pdf file is created.
I'm not familiar with the print to file option. I had a look at print options from within Word but no mention of any PDF Maker although Adobe PDF is listed as a printer. However, if I try to print to Adobe PDF I get an error saying there is an error in the printer setup.
    With thanks
    Robert

  • Converting Robohelp Content to a Word and PDF document.

I am in the process of creating an online help manual with several jpg images.  The jpg images are clear in Robohelp, but when I convert the content to a Word or PDF, the content and images are fuzzy and blurry, especially the PDF. Any thoughts or suggestions as to why this is occurring?  I did not have this issue with my last project, the clarity, content, and formatting was very clear including the jpg images.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

    Hi Wendy,
there is almost no conversion of images on generating any output from RoboHelp, can you please also specify how those topics with images were created.
if possible please share a sample image and correponding code snippet from RoboHelp.
you can try removing any resizing done to those images and then generate the output.

  • Why i can't create PDF with right format by LiveCycle?

    Hello,
As we know that PDF format has four sections, the header, object body, cross-reference table and trailer.
But after I create a PDF by Adobe LiveCycle, and open it by UltraEdit or Notepad, I cannot find the cross-reference table and some objects, “trailer” word either .
I try to download several PDF files by follow link:
    https://my.adobeconnect.com/_a295153/p10077996/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=norm al ,
and open them as the same way as before, it was the normal format I learn.
So, why my PDF is not the right format? And how can I create PDF with right format?
    Thank you a lot!
    Ellie

Adobe LiveCycle Designer makes XFA forms - a thin PDF wrapper around XML, no useful PDF page objects. Still, they are valid PDF. Like any PDF, you might not find a trailer or xref if a cross reference stream is used. See ISO 3200-1 7.5.8 "Cross-Reference Streams".

  • Can't convert Word to PDF

Recently I noticed that my installation of Acrobat X Pro has lost its capability to convert Word files (.doc or .docx) to PDF through Acrobat. The PDF maker inside Word is still functional, but Acrobat itself does not recognize Word files as a supported format. Excel and Publisher are still supported.
I can no longer right click on Word files and access any of the PDF options, I can't open (convert) Word files in Acrobat, and I can't select Word files as targets for any Acrobat actions.
I saw a post on the Enterprise board about this issue happening after WordPerfect was installed, but the discussion was a little on the technical side for me. I did install a trial version of WordPerfect semi-recently, so I'm thinking it's a possibility, but not sure what the solution is.

Anyone have any thoughts? Has this happened to others?

On the Mac Version you can drag the word file and drop on to the Icon of the Acrobat application in the Dock and let it grind for a while and it makes a Perfect PDF. In fact it’s the only way you can create Live URL and Mailtos provided they are wriiten as http:// or mailto:
Even Going to Print menu >PDF > Adobe PDF or Adobe Quality PDF won't do it.
Have you tried just draging the file and dropping on to the icon of Acrobat?
