Workmanagers in OSB

Hi gurus,
IHAC which is using OSB to integrate different systems. As a good practice, we are defining work managers for proxy services (requesters). We did a simple test, configuring a workmanager with a thread constraint = 10 and a capacity constraint =3 and applying to a particular service in OSB.
A test of 50 concurrents request was sent to that service. However, the workmanager processed all of them sucessfully.
I can guest that maybe the load wasn't so hard and the thread constraint wasn't a limitation neitherl, serializing the requests in the queue. But we expected that capacity constraints worked rejecting some of these requests.
Are we doing the test in the right way? Do constraints only apply based on the whole load of the server?
Thanks.

It really depends on the type of service, message flow design and it's transactional nature that how OSB processes a transaction. OSB is meant for high performance processing and hence most of the internal processing is done asynchronously, until and unless it is bounded to process the request synchronously because of configuration or transport. So in your case, most probably the message flow is asynchronous (for e.g. - one way HTTP) and straight forward (for e.g. - direct routing with/without a very light transformation) and hence threads are getting released quite quickly and backlog is not reaching to the threshold.
A test of 50 concurrents request was sent to that service. However, the workmanager processed all of them sucessfully.How are you posting 50 concurrent requests to OSB? Though it may seem concurrent but for OSB, all the 50 requests might not be reaching at the same time and because of stateless nature of OSB, throughput is high.
You may consider testing with a continuous load on OSB with huge volume of transactions and I am sure that you will notice rejections because of capacity constraint.

Anuj

    Hi,
    Have you tried Cancelling the release before adding the version?
    Select the active version of the IDOC Segment and cancel its release first. Only then you will be able to add a version.
    Please let me know if it worked!

  • OSB file logging settings configuration

    Dear Experts,
    I need to know if it is possible to log on file all messages of error (i.e $fault variable) during a flow execution without using in the flow neither logs neither report. Is it possible ? If it is, which the correct WLS settings configuration ?

    I can only think of one solution: using the debugging/tracing facilities of OSB. You could enable execution tracing for a particular proxy service, or you could enable debugging of pipelines in the alsbdebug.xml file in your domain's home. For this WLS's log should have a severity level of debug. Of course this would mean you'd have a lot more messages in the log files, not just the errors. I would not recommend this for a production environment.
    Why can't you use the Log action that's specially designed for sending messages to WLS's log file?

    Hi Anuj,
    Thanks for your reply!
    I found that the data source is registered on server soa_server1 as follows:

    I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
    But I found the following information:
    Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
    Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
    eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
    The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
    I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

    Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
    For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
    But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

    You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
    It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
    What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

    Hi i have followed the following steps which is specified in this thread
    You need to follow below steps...
    add a java parameter to the OSB server. Go to domains\osb_domain\bin folder and edit the setDomainEnv file and add this line to this file. set JAVA_PROPERTIES=-Dplatform.home=%WL_HOME% -Dwls.home=%WLS_HOME% -Dweblogic.home=%WLS_HOME% -Dcom.sun.xml.namespace.QName.useCompatibleSerialVersionUID=1.0
    Step 2 is to replace the bpel jars in the bpel transport ear. Go folder osb_10.3\lib\transports and open bpel10gtransport.ear and replace the following jar files orabpel.jar, orabpel-common.jar , xmlparserv2.jar and oc4jclient.jar with the ones you can find in the soa suite 10.1.3 home.
    But still i am getting the error.
    I am using WLS (10.0).Is it compatible with bpel-10g protocol, because i have already called a sync BPEL process with http protocol and it worked?This thread talks about WLS(9.2)

  • Can't get rid of a TX - message keeps appearing and being processed by OSB

    I have some sort of a poison message or TX I can't flush. Every 10 seconds I get a log message like the second one below, and the number of pending messages in multiple places and OSB proxy service messages processed keep climbing - all without producing any new messages on my part. I've tried deleting the default server store on the OSB managed server and the filestore for the JMS server. No luck.
    When this first started happening, the error messages looked like the first one below. Something I did caused the change, I assume. However, it's the same TX ID throughout.
    So, first, how can I get rid of this thing? It's driving me nuts and keeping me from closing out a POC.
    Second, why is it happening? I have one suspicion - could it be because that somehow we configured mutiple domains with the same name for a distributed application? It's not my normal practice but it happened. These domains don't communicate directly, but there are domains that need to communicate with both. So I'm guessing the name ambiguity may be hurting us. Just a guess, though.
    In this case, the sgosb domain's proxy service (this domain name is unique) is receiving messages from a queue resident in the pega_domain in Singapore and another proxy service is putting a message to another queue in the pega_domain in the UK. This is not in a single TX; the first proxy service forwards the message to a queue in the sgosb_domain, the second proxy service gets that message and puts it into the other pega_domain. It's an XA TX for each proxy service.
    Just to make it more fun, the sgosb_domain has another proxy service reading from a different queue and forwarding it to a queue in the third pega_domain in the US.
    TIA for any help or insight.
    Oh yes, the OSB domain is WLS 10.3.4, while the pega_domains are WLS 10.3.2

    Tom,
    Thanks! Succinct and easy to understand as ever.
    Yup, that covers it - I had also just seen this in the docs after looking at atheek1's earlier response (thanks to him/her as well). It's covered almost as clearly there as you state it here (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/jta/trxcon.html).
    While the ESB domains meet all of those requirements (except for cross-domain security configuration), each of the other two sets of domains (3 in each set) do not meet the naming uniqueness criteria for domain and server names; they do for JMS server names. I saw the store names in the TX identifier string as included resource, and assumed they might play a part - that's why I changed them. As you say, an unnecessary change. Oh well - it was an easy one.
    My normal practice has been for unique names in the past, due to problems I had years ago with cross-domain JMS traffic in an earlier WLS version. I guess it's the wrong time to have forgotten that lesson.
    Does anyone know of a quick way of changing a domain name quickly without rebuilding the domain? In the past WLST resulted in incomplete copies for me, is that still a problem? Server names are easy, just some global search-and-replace in the config.xml file (and in the management scripts, too)

  • Specify filename in OSB File Trasport Business Service

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to specify the complete filename in OSB File Transport Business Service?
    the default behavior allows me to specify the prefix and suffix only, is it possible to override and specify the complete filename?
    Thanks,
    Tal

    Specifying the filename for outbound FTP transport in OSB the thread discusses with FTP BS and same would apply for File BS

  • Proxy business services in osb

    In osb if i want to get data from a client then what is the procedure
    I am using a business service whose endpointuri is a proxy service (protocol http)
    And this business service is inturn called by my local proxy service
    Is this procedure correct ?
    if not then what is the correct procedure how many proxy and business services do i need to get data from my client
    Thanks,
    Rahul

    How many Proxy Services and Business Services to use depends on the use case.
    For example, if your client will initiate a transaction when it has some data to send to another system then you will have to configure following flow:
    First system (wants to send some data)--> Proxy Service(to receive data from Client) --> Business Service (to call the second system) --> second system web service API
    Another scenario in which you need to get some data from the second system when requested by the first system (query scenario) the above flow would still remain the same.
    Addition of another Proxy service depends on specific use case and scope of re-usability etc. For example if you want to fetch data from a system and that query can be reused in various processes or can also be called from various client applications then you can create a wrapper Proxy above the Business service and call this Proxy Service instead of calling the business service from your Proxy.
    Domain structure also is a deciding factor, for example if you want to call a Proxy in one domain from another domain you can use a Business Service in the requesting domain.

  • Logical Delete in DB Polling - OSB

    Hello All,
    I have a question in polling. I have a logical delete column with Read value as 'P and unread value as 'N', Unlike BPEL, OSB's polling, does not make a record to 'P' until the process completes successfully. My DB polling adapter polls the same records while the previous instance is under processing or the previous instance ended in error. Is there a way to logically delete the record immediately once the record is read?
    To avoid this scenario, I added an error handler to make the record to 'E' if the instance encountered any error. By the time the error handler kicks in and updates the record, OSB polls the record a few times. I increased my polling frequency from 5 seconds to 30 seconds, but no luck. Any clue how to handle this scenario?
    Thanks,
    Dwarak

    Is there a way to logically delete the record immediately once the record is read?Dont do any logic in db adapter proxy. Instead make the proxy to just write to a jms queue and then have your processing logic in the jms proxy service which reads off the jms queue.

  • Not able to build osb jar using osb 10.3

    Hi All,
    I am working on developing an osb jar from workspace(osb 10.3) using ant scripts.When i am trying to invoke an ant with target "export" it show an error "Java returned :13".I went through the entire post sent by respected people over the forum but i am not able to solve it.
    Script which i am using :
    <project name="ConfigExport">
    <property file="./build.properties"/>
    <property name="eclipse.home"
    value="${bea.home}/tools/eclipse_pkgs/2.0/eclipse_3.3.2/eclipse"/>
    <property name="weblogic.home" value= "${bea.home}/wlserver_10.3"/>
    <property name="metadata.dir" value="${workspace.dir}/.metadata"/>
    <target name="export">
    <available file="${metadata.dir}" type="dir"
    property="metadata.dir.exists"/>
    <java dir="${eclipse.home}"
    jar="${eclipse.home}/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.1.R33x_v20080118.jar"
    fork="true"
    failonerror="true"
    maxmemory="768m">
    <arg line="-data ${workspace.dir}"/>
    <arg line="-application com.bea.alsb.core.ConfigExport"/>
    <arg line="-configProject ${config.project}"/>
    <arg line="-configJar ${config.jar}"/>
    <sysproperty key="weblogic.home" value="${weblogic.home}"/>
    </java>
              <antcall target="deleteMetadata"/>
    </target>
         <target name="deleteMetadata" unless="metadata.dir.exists">
    <delete failonerror="false" includeemptydirs="true"
    dir="${metadata.dir}"/>
         </target>
    </project>
    It seems that on debugging the error in eclipse log say for ex: C:\bea\tools\eclipse_pkgs\2.0\eclipse_3.3.2\eclipse\configuration\
    show me an error saying : "java.lang.RuntimeException: Application "com.bea.alsb.core.ConfigExport" could not be found in the registry."
    It seems that com.bea.alsb.core.ConfigExport not able to find the class which is used to export an osb jar.Moreover in the thread posted basically talks about osb 11 so i am not able to find many folders like middleware,oracle,osb.home.
    Please let me know what is the possible solutions for this in osb 10.3.

    (Application Developer)

    see here Export from OEPE not working for an answer, that I copy/paste here:
    You have to verify if your OEPE instalation has the following file in the directory dropins (e.g C:\Oracle\middleware\oepe11.1.1.3\dropins)
    filename:
    oracle.osb.ide.link
    content:
    path=C:/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_OSB1
    Under the Oracle_OSB1 you have an eclipse directory with needed plugins:
    e.g. C:/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_OSB1/eclipse is not empty
    This is only a sample directory naming from Windows installation, I had a problem on RHEL 5.3 where installer did not put such files.
    Then I took the files from Windows installation.
    I suspect the files are installed "automatically" but I am not sure when.

  • How to Execute shell commands in OSB

    Team,
    My Requirement:
    I have two sftp servers name ServerA and ServerB. Need to copy files from ServerA and place it on ServerB and change the file permissions to 777 after placing the files.
    The user i am connecting to ServerB has the access to override file permissions.
    Steps
    1. With help of FTP adapter in OSB I am reading files from ServerA and writing on to ServerB  -- Completed and is working.
    2. How to override file permissions after placing the file ????? -- Yet to implement.
    Please suggest me how can i accomodate 2nd step.
    Thanks,
    Suman V.

    If by "execute shell commands" you mean actually
    running a shell process (as opposed to just forking
    and executing specified programs) then I'd advise
    against it. The last thing you want is for the
    clients to be running arbitrary commands on the
    server. You don't want to make it possible for the
    client to run "rm -fr /" on your server.Right.
    I was assuming (perhaps with more optimism than is really warranted) that the OP was going to be in complete control of which commands were executed--that there'd be a small, fixed set in response to certain user actions.

  • OSB db-adapter: how to pass a proxy user or something like this?

    Hello, on OSB with a Oracle db-adapter, I'd like to do some database updates. Usually the db-adapter is set up with a technical database user.
    But on database side, this way I don't know exactly which user has been updating my table because only the technical user will be inserted into "Created_by" Column
    (select USER from dual ==> technical user).
    Now I thougt about using Proxy Users. But there exists some other Problems:
    - every proxy user has to be initially created in the database
    - how can I pass proxy user and technical user from OSB to the database?
    (using JCA, JNDI and JDBC Data Sources)
    ... on JDBC datasources I can only specify hard coded userid/password (--> technical user)
    Any help would be appreciated. Maybe some good white papers or tutorial exists in the web, but I can't finde a good one.
    Thanks
    Best regards

    You can pass in the adapter header property "jca.db.ProxyUserName". That way you can specify a user for each invoke.
    I got confirmation that OSB supports setting these properties. The sample adapters-db-201-MovieImages on soasamples.samplecode.oracle.com > Adapters shows working with header properties but with Mediator.
    Thanks
    Steve

  • What is the difference between Routing and Call OSB regarding preformance?

    Hi excuse my ignorance, I am new to OSB and would like to know the difference in the performance of a service using the Service Callout or Routting, which would be the fastest to run?
    would like to know this to know what the best to use if I have a situation that you can use either one.
    Thanks!

    service call out .. you call a service in a SYNCHRONOUS way (pipeline blocks and waits for service response).
    we cannot use request-only wsdl operation through service callout.It is single threaded.
    route ... it's the last node of the proxy, it's not in the pipeline, you pass all processing to another (business or proxy) service . Route node can be seen as an action which defines where a Request thread stops and Response thread begins, in addition to what ever it does. It is know that by-design, request and response pipelines of a OSB proxy will be in different threads.
    route node can be (request-response and request only)
    you can have multiple ServiceCallouts but only one route node.
    Service callout under high load can cause stuck thread issues, so it has to be used wisely depending upon your requirement.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Karan

  • How to take control back from service error handler in osb

    I am using osb to send data to multiple services at the same time.since x query is a procedural language if any single operation fails the flow goes to service error handler which calls a BPEL webservice and logs the error in a database but the control doesnt comes back to my code I have tried everything including RESUME,REPLY operations but all in vain similarly i cannot use service callout call to my business service because its not allowing to select my BPEL wsdl operation

    If your statement "the control doesnt comes back to my code" means you expect that your xquery will continue in processing than your expectations are just too high. :-)
    Resume action is supposed to resume the next action in the message flow. It means the action that follows the action which caused an error.
