Works on one Vista User Account But not another

My itunes 8 won't connect to the itunes store on my main vista account.
But on the same computer, new account made... it works!!
What's Up? I dunno.. am puzzled by this, and am not a computer idiot by any means.

nope. am on an administrator account. made a seperate "iTunes" administrator account and itunes works fine there.
on this account.. it says it cannot connect to the network. Diagnostic test on itunes says all connections are good tho.?!?!? Have tried turning off the firewall etc.
think i need to do a fresh install, but itunes seems to have some sort of "memory" even if i uninstall all of what i can see!

  • SFTP works on one user account, but not another

I am using a Mac Mini running Mavericks.  I am trying to upload via sftp my homework.  I have been able to do so on a test user account.  But not my primary account.  I double checked my settings on both.  Both look identical.  I am using Fugu as my client for sftp.  I previous have been able to upload with Dreamweaver.  But now nothing.

    In your wife's account:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Album recognized by Gracenote on one user account, but not another

When I am logged in to my computer as Administrator, iTunes recognizes my CDs via Gracenote with no problem. When I am logged in as "All Users," however, Gracenote is unable to retrieve albums and track names.
iTunes under both user accounts is 8.0.2.20, but when I'm logged in as Admin, a silver window pops up labeled "Processing..." and the tracks import normally with their names, artist, etc. When I'm logged in as All, however, a different window pops up when a CD is inserted; it's blue and reads "Querying Gracenote..." but it can never retrieve album information and times out.
Not sure whether this is an iTunes settings problem or a permissions/security issue that's causing this problem. I've made sure "Automatically retrieve track names from the internet" is checked in Preferences, and I've tried choosing "Get CD Track Names" from the "Advanced" menu, with no luck.
If it matters, I do know that iTunes has been installed, uninstalled and re-installed at least once on this machine, and that some old and new libraries have been moved around between the two user accounts. Any ideas?

  • Mail server working sending emails between user accounts but not to other (outside) email accounts?

    Hi!
I am new to Mac OS X Server Mail and I am trying to set up.  I have successfully started the mail services and created 2 user accounts.  Those accounts can email each other back and forth, no problem; however, they cannot send/receive to other email addresses.  Anyone know why this would happen?
I'm learning OS X Server and appreciate any help!

    Hi,
setting up mail can is quite complicated.
    Suggest you watch this video:

this should give you some ideas where to look.
Have in mind that you need to do DNS set-ups, need to have a static IP address ( or use a DynDNS service ),very likely also add MX records etc. etc.

I have the folloing Select formula:{Sheet1_.Assign Group History} = '{"COMPUTER OPERATIONS"}' and{Sheet1_.Resolved By Group} = "COMPUTER OPERATIONS"That I'm using to select records from an Excel spreadsheet. It works fine with the Jan. 2008 spreadsheet file: Test MTTR Jan 2008.xlsbut not with the Feb. 2008 spreadsheet: Test MTTR Feb 2008.xlsWhen I use the Feb. 2008 file I get this error:"Query Engine Error:'Error code: 0x800a06ff Source: DAO.Recordset Description: this expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated."Basically both Excel files are in the same format but have different data in them. I don't understand why Jan's works, but not Feb's???
Since, I can't upload the two files without contacting the system administrator, maybe someone can help me debug the error code or how to debug this error using another method or idea??

did you try each sheet while removing one of the select statements?  i would start there and try feb with no select statement, add one in, then the next
see what is causing your problem. it sounds like some data in the xls file is in an incorrect format.

  • 4th generation iPod Shuffle works on one PC (Windows 7) but not another.

    Hi all.
My issue with the 4th gen shuffle is pretty strange, at least, from what I've read here on the forums already. My sister recieved one as a christmas present just this past year (Happy New Year, all!), and as I am the family's tech guy, I was given the task of configuring it for her use and whatnot, as she is younger.
Having owned a shuffle myself, I figured it wouldn't be all that difficult.
At first I ran into the issue of not plugging the USB cord in all the way, but being the computer-geek I am, I recognized the symptoms fairly quickly and noticed the eighth of an inch of plug still sticking out of the little hole.
Interesting, interesting. So now it was plugged in properly.. but iTunes was immediately saying it was corrupted. So, not too bad, just click restore, right?.. wrong.
The restore hangs. I google the issue. A lot of people suggest reinstalling iTunes and whatnot.. attempting a format on the iPod itself to make sure it's in Windows format.
I try many many things on this PC, only to wind up plugging the thing into another Windows 7 PC. The only difference between the two is that the other PC is running 64 bit Windows 7 as opposed to 32 bit. Strangely enough, however, the iPod functions and works perfectly on one computer and does not get recognized by Windows as a disk drive or a mountable partition on the original PC.
I discovered today that the motherboard drivers for the original PC weren't properly installed by visiting nVidia's site.. but this didn't help the problem. I also attempted to restart all of Apple's iPod services through Windows, as well as to reinstall iTunes multiple times. I disabled basically all other services running on the computer, turned off Avast antiVirus, etc.
I did try several different USB ports as well. Front ports, back ports, even the installed memory card reader has a USB port that I attempted to use to connect the iPod.. all to no avail.
The only thing I can honestly guess at this point, is, that there is some other conflicting service or background process that is totally preventing the iPod from properly being recognized by Windows, especially as multiple driver reinstalls / restarts do absolutely nothing to solve the issue. I also find it very odd that iTunes will recognize the iPod as being plugged in, but consider it corrupted despite the fact that it runs just fine on the other PC. Perhaps the major difference is, in fact, the 64 bit OS? I also find it odd, indeed, that despite it showing up in iTunes as a corrupted iPod, when I click the diagnostics button under the help menu in iTunes, it will say there is no iPod plugged in.
I am really just confused and dumbstruck by all of this, and regardless, my sister's christmas present is currently nothing more than a pink clip on button.
Please note that I have tried or looked into most if not all of the support pages pertaining to this issue. I am very much hoping there is something simple I've overlooked, or that there is some specific order in which things must be done in order to properly force Windows to recognize the device (like it does so easily with so many other devices..).

There is a USB printer connected to the back port of the PC. The mouse and keyboard are both PS/2.
I did attempt to reinstall the USB root drivers. After uninstalling iTunes and all the other apple software packages included, I uninstalled everything USB in Device Manager, then rebooted the PC to let Windows reinstall it all.
Reinstalling the OS -might- fix the issue, but if that were the case, it's most likely just a software conflict that can easily be fixed if I can manage to narrow the specific conflicts down. I've already essentially disabled everything with MSCONFIG except for Apple stuff, so I'm at a loss as to where to go. I've attempted the 5 Rs and all that as well, none of it seems to do the trick. I also cleared the temp folder multiple times (once per each iTunes uninstall / reinstall following the support site directions of uninstalling all the extra apple software) as well as attempted restarts of the Apple services.
One oddity I would like to point out is that if I attempt to restart the iPod service through services.msc, it will not restart. It throws the error message of "the service failed to respond in a timely fashion" or whatever. I instead have to use the windows Task Manager to manually kill the iPod process in the processes list.
I just now removed the USB printer and plugged the shuffle into the same port, but I receive the same error message in iTunes about the iPod being corrupted and it needing a restore. If I push restore, the software gets stuck in an endless loop. There are no other USB devices attached to this computer, the motherboard drivers are fully up to date from nVidia's website, and other USB devices clearly function just fine (USB memory sticks, USB printer, etc). If I use the Diagnostics option under Help in iTunes, it will claim there is no iPod connected, and, again, the iPod still does not show up in Windows Explorer under My Computer as an attached device, nor does it show up in Disk Management as a mounted partition.

Just want to avoild spending hours migrating everything across....

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).
Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.

  • Safari (7.0.1) is non-responsive (spinning pinwheel) upon start up.  It will work in temp user account but not in my main user acct.  I tried reinstall via comman-r prompt on start up but the problem persists.  Any suggestion for reinstall or repair?

Safari is non-responsive after intitial start up.  Before it can load the homepage (google), it will hang and give a perpetual pinwheel until I force quit the program.  Safari works in temporary user account but not in my primary user account.  I have reinstalled osx via the command-r upon start up and the problem still persists.  Any suggestions on how to reinstall or repair safari?

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
    Thanks again for your suggestion.

Hi, I have a Indesign user who inherited a PC with Indesign installed. Indesign works with old PC user profile but not the new user. Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Question # 1 is what do you mean by "inherited"? Is this a case where the computer belonged to someone else? Your user would not be entitled to use a program licensed to someone else.

  • Automatic downloads only works with one Mac user account, can I get help?

I have three user accounts on my iMac, and I set up iTunes Automatic downloading on my iTunes account on my iMac user account. Then I went to set up my brothers iTunes automatic download on his iMac user account but it said the computer was already in use, and gave me options like transfer or cancel. Just to clarify this was an attempt with one iMac two user accounts and two separate iTunes accounts.

It appears we are all having the same issue, and for themost part talking about the same thing, but to reiterate:
    1) One (1) computer, to help distinguish the devices letscall it an iMac
    2) Two (2) or more distinct User ID’s on said iMac with fullAdmin permissions
    3) Each distinct User ID on the iMac has a distinct Apple IDwith an associated iTunes and iCloud account
    4) For every User ID / Apple ID there is a separate personwith their own iDevice
    5) None of the iTunes accounts, iDevices or Apple ID’s arecross sync’d
        5) (a) Forexample, Person 1 does not share apps, etc. with Person 2’s iTunes account. Weare assuming everyone distinct Apple ID / iDevice buys its own App’s, musicetc.
    6) Only one (1) of the iMac User ID’s and that User ID’sassociated iTunes and iCloud account can have auto-download and iCloud servicesactivated at any one time.
    6) (a) Just to be redundantly clear, that means that every other User ID / iTunes – iCloud ID/ iDevice CANNOTauto-download or sync to iCloud
Somewhat reformed PC guy here (wife is a life long Macuser), but all I can say is are you (*&^%$%^&* kidding me?
If I wanted these problems, and didn’t care about aestheticsor battery life, I would have stuck with Win-crap / Android for 50% or less ofthe cost.
Besides my preference for the Win-Devil UI (I know, I know…)I cannot believe after spending more than $4,500 on iFleecing this summer I amstill having issues like this (Mac Air, iMac, iPhone 4- two and the buy-out oftwo cell contracts).
Granted, when I plug something in, it works… the way Stevethinks I should want it to function.
In the hopes of avoiding some iFlogging by my fellow usershere, I concede the superiority, in every conceivable way, of all of thehardware and even like the MS Office suite in Mac better (at least not less). Ihave no intention of going back to the Win-Devil (don’t even run an emulator oneither computer), but this is a Windows-like screw-up.

  • Transferred library to new user account but not able to download...

I transfered my existing library from the account I was originally using to my own new account following the directions that Apple provides http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203 however now I'm noticing that I cannot download music, apps, etc. in Itunes in the new user account, but still can when I sign into the old user account.  Both user accounts use the same AppleID in Itunes.  I cannot delete the old user account.  I'm assuming that this probably be solved under systems preferences, but I'm not sure what to do.  Thank you!!
FYI - I have the latest updated Itunes.

    bsd8896 wrote:

Don't transfer just the music media.
The problem I am having is that I cannot download music, apps, files in ITunes when in the new user account.  I am assuming this is because I have always downloaded in the old user account.  I assuming something under the system pref in Itunes will fix this...just not sure how?
    What happens?
How do you know you cannot download anythibng? Any messages/errors?
    Try this...
    Quit iTunes.
Transfer the entire /Music/iTunes folder from old user to /Users/Shared/ folder.
Open a Finder window and go to /Users/Shared/.
Select the ITunes folder, right click > get info.
Sroll to Sharing & Permissions and set Everyone to Read/Write.
Click the Gear icon and click Apply to Enclosed items.
    Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library and select the /Users/Shared/iTunes/ folder.

  • IChat works in one user account but not in another

my computer phobic parents just bought a new 27" iMac and I've been using iChat's screen sharing with him to help my dad with the computer, we've already set up a separate user account on the machine for my mom we can't get iChat to work under her user account.
The apple rep had trouble using her Gmail account so he set up an AIM account but still no luck
I have her in iChat under my dad's user account and can do video chats and screen sharing with her, no problem.
But regardless of whether or not we leave her jabber account logged in under my dad's user account, we can't get iChat to accept her account info when she is loged into her own user account.
(P.S. parental controls for her account aren't activated neither is admin privileges)

    Hi,
Make her account an Admin Account.
A Managed Account and Parental Controls tend to be somewhat linked and a sliding scale of things.
If there is no reason to Manage her account there is no reason why she cannot also be an Admin account.
She should also Check iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security and see who is in the Blocked or Allowed Lists and see if you are in the wrong one.

  • IPhoto '11 works on one user account but not the other

I upgraded to iPhoto '11 from iPhoto '08 a couple of weeks ago using the MacApp store. After doing so, I opened the application on my main user account, received a message that the library had to be updated, the application did so, and it has been working wonderfully since. The problem I'm having is with my wife's user account. I did not open the application and upgrade the library immediately on this account. Before I could do so, my wife hooked up her iPhone to sync, which automatically opened iPhoto. I get the gray screen with the large spinning wheel in the center, and her library never appears. I have tried two strategies to fix this, and so far, have had no luck. The first was to hold option while launching the application, and selecting her library. I get the exact same result doing this. My next strategy was to completely delete iPhoto from my system, then re-download and reinstall it, and try to open the library once again. Unfortunately, this did not work. I thought the next step should be to delete iPhoto '11, reinstall iPhoto '08, open my wife's library using iPhoto '08, then reinstall '11 and upgrade her library. Since iLife came preinstalled on my mac when I purchased it years ago, I'm not certain how to reinstall iPhoto '08. Does anyone know how to do this, or have another suggestion for solving this problem? Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Washed Out Color on One User Account But Not The Other

    Heyo,
I'm on my second Macbook Pro. Apple had to replace the first one. But that's behind us.
Anyway, I have a bit of a predicament. I've noticed that the colors on my main user account are washed out and dull. I created a new user account to see if the problem was a hardware or software issue.
The thing is, the account with washed out colors has Adobe Photoshop, and the rest of the Design Premium CS3 suite - as well as Final Cut Studio 2 - but these are not on the other.
So, I'm guessing that this issue is connected with CS3 and FCS 2.
This issue appears regardless of what color profile I use. But I normally use the Adobe RGB profile - which is what I used to test the other account.
Any ideas what I could do to get my color back? Is there a setting I can change for this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Michael

I'd try to isolate a corrupted user preference file.
Apparently, Diskwarrior now claims to fix those. Or you can just look through the preferences folder in your user folder and start pulling some of those out to the disktop, log out and then log back in and see if that does anything.
When something is affecting one account but no others, I think the clear majority of the time it is a user preference file that is responsible.

  • I want to bcc myself when sending mail from one account but not another. When I check "automatically bcc myself", it bcc's me from both accounts.  Can I set this to work with only one account?

I have two mail accounts on my Mac.  I want one account to bcc me when I send emails from that account.  I checked "automatically bcc myself" under mail>preferences>composing, but both accounts bcc me when sending mail.  Can I set this to only bcc myself from one specific email account? Thanks.

It does not make sense that your ssh does not have a dash capital Y (-Y) option. It is in "man ssh", and my 10.6.6 has the -Y option, and I've had a -Y option since at least Tiger (10.4) days.
    My ssh is in /usr/bin/ssh
I'm not very good at X11 issues, so I'm just throwing ideas out there.
Does your broken account have a $HOME/.ssh/config file, and if so, what is in it?
Does the broken account have any $HOME/.x* or $HOME/.X* files that X11 might be reading to configure your X11 behavior differently from the new test account?
    $HOME/.Xauthority
    $HOME/.Xdefaults-<hostname>
    $HOME/.Xresources
    $HOME/.ICEauthority
    $HOME/.keymap.km
The above are a few names I found looking through "man X"
While I'm thinking about it, I assume that when going to the server, you are using the exact same user account on the server, so that you have a constant at least at that end.
    Have you tried trashing your
    $HOME/Library/Preferences/org.x.X11.plist
file, to see if that is affecting the broken account?
Again, I am just throwing out ideas to see if anything sticks.
