Worth of 23" Apple Cinema Display?

Hello. I am looking to sell my 23" Apple Cinema Display. either on Craigs List or eBay. Can anyone help me figure out how to assess its worth? It's in perfect working order though I've had it for a few years. I appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Thank you.

Hi, I own two 23" Apple Cinema displays that I bought off of craigslist.  I paid somewhere between $300-$400 each.  To accurately guage how much they're going for, go to ebay and select the "advance" button.  Then have the "completed listings" selected.   Then enter what you're looking for, namely the Apple 23" Cinema Display and you'll have a listing of what people had purchased them for as opposed to hoping for.  Good luck.

  • Mini VGA to VGA to Apple Cinema Display

i just acquired an old imac g4/800. it has the mini vga port. i've seen the adapter to go from mini vga to vga but i'd like to purchase a 23" apple cinema display. do i need another adapter linked to the mini vga adapter that would connect a cinema display to the imac g4? i'm not worried about adding extra desktop space, only using the new display with the current setup. please advise

Apple's current 23" Cinema HD Display uses the DVI connection rather the ADC connection. The original 23" Cinema Display has an ADC but was discontinued in 2004. But then a VGA to DVI convertor is about the same cost as a VGA to ADC convertor. So I certainly agree with just buying a new display.
Remember the iMac G4 can only mirror the internal display on to the external if you have a 15" iMac G4 then that means you'll be outputting a 4:3 ratio XGA (1024x768) screen on to this nice large display which isn't going to look great. If you have a 17" iMac G4 then it's worth ensuring that the 23" display you do get is capable of the 1440 x 900 resolution. Personally I'd give serious consideration to the iMac 24" if you need the larger display as 23" display is 50% of the cost of the iMac.

  • Calibrating Apple Cinema Display for Video Editing

What's the procedure to calibrate an Apple Cinema Display for editing in FCP (editing and preliminary color grading)?
My camcorder can produce color bars, but I can't hook it up directly to the monitor. Shall I record color bars and use the recorded clip to calibrate? What's the procedure regarding calibration?
    Thanks!

The need to "calibrate" a display for video "editing" is a complete fallacy. There is no need to have accurate images when plopping pictures and graphics next to each other to create a story in a linear fashion. For accuracy you need a dedicated input/output device with a display that represents your intended delivery; projection, broadcast, whatever. If your intended delivery is web or phone only, well, it's a total rodeo where the word "consistency" has no meaning at all.
The MXO, it puts a look up table on a computer monitor and then does some other electronic mumbo jumbo to simulate interlacing and other tv junk. I call it lipstick on a pig, others here will give it high marks.
The only real constant is that if you want to play in the world of "hd", the costs are bigger than in "sd" and is the return on investment worth it?

  • Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice for Final Cut Studio 2

I'm about to order a Mac Pro and Final Cut Studio 2 and have a question about monitor choices.
Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice are there non-Apple monitors that will do as good or better job with HD editing and output?

COMPUTER MONITORS bear very little on HD editing and output...especially output. They are just the monitors you use to look at your clips and your timeline. THey work for SD and HD. You really only use them to, well, as I said, see what you are doing. It would be nice to have GOOD ONES so the image looks decent. I use the Dell 24" monitors. The current one is the 2408. Nearly half the price of the Apple 23" displays...and really, the only Apple 23" that exists connects via their new connector, so you need a new MacPro or MacBook pro...or some adapter, to get it to work. And they are not worth the extra money, in my experience.
    Samsung monitors are also good.

  • 23" Apple Cinema Display won't wake

I have learned alot on these forums but seldom post. Thanks in advance!
I have a G5 dual 2.0 Powermac, not sure what OS- I should know but honestly haven't updated it in a couple years. It's hooked up to a 23" Apple Cinema Display. I went to turn it on yesterday and the monitor did not come on. The comp appeared to be on, the normal sounds were coming from the machine- the eject button worked, the volume buttons were working, hard drive spinning etc. tried moving the mouse, hit space bar, etc.
The LED light on the front of the monitor is on but no picture. I checked the monitor's manual and tried resetting PRAM, checked connections, made sure there was power to the monitor.
Tried restarting the computer a few times, every time it was the same thing- starts up, normal operating sounds, Mac won't wake up.
Called Applecare, they said the steady "on" light on the monitor indicates that it is not getting a signal. Probably a problem with the Powermac (which is not covered by Applecare). They told me to connect it to a different monitor and see what happens.
I brought in my Dell 22" monitor and same thing happened except for a brief moment "Auto Detect Sleep Mode" flashes on the screen then it goes to sleep.
So it seems that the Powermac is putting the monitor(s) to sleep right away at startup. Anyone know anything I can try?

    Hi-
When the LED is "On", the display is "Off".

Can you boot in Safe Mode? To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
-Be sure the computer is shut down.
    -Press the power button.
-Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
-Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
-Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator

  • How do I attach my iSight camera to my Apple Cinema Display?

I've just bought two iSight cameras, and found nothing in the accessory kit with them that would allow me to attach the camera to my Apple Cinema Display. This is because the back of the Cinema Display is beveled rather than flat, so the flat base of the accessories won't set firmly.
Does anybody have a solution for this?

  • Can I use an Apple Cinema Display as a second monitor for my iMac?

I have a new 24" intel iMac and was wondering if I could use my old 20" Apple Cinema Display (aluminum) as a dual display. What cables do I need?

Just had a good look inside my box and nothing. Maybe it's a Apple UK thing
The back of my iMac does have a Mini DVI port so I'm gonna pop down the Apple store tomorrow morning to pick one up.
Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know if I'm successful.

  • How to connect a apple cinema display to an imac

I have a brand new 27 inch iMac. I also own a 30 inch  Apple Cinema Display.  What peripheral adaptor do I need to connect the display to my new iMac?

    Hello,
Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort-> Dual Link DVi cable...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter
A notable peculiarity of Thunderbolt is that it uses exactly the same connector as Mini Display Port, and that's not all. The Thunderbolt connector also carries Mini Display Port video signals. That means you can plug a Mini Display Port video cable/adapter in to a Thunderbolt connector and your monitor will work.

  • Can I use a 30" Apple Cinema display with a new 27" iMac?

I have a brand new iMac(27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), i7 3.5 GHz, 32MB RAM, 4GB NVIDIA.  I will soon be upgrading it to Mavericks, if that makes a difference.  My understanding is that the resolution on it is 2560 x 1440.
I'm looking at buying a used 30" Apple Cinema display.  I'd like to use it with my new iMac.  The only advantage for me would be that the 30" screen is larger and things on it easier to see (or so I'm guessing).
I need to know if the 30" Cinema display would work with my new iMac, and if it would, as I'm guessing, give me a larger, easier-to-see screen.
I currently have my new iMac connected to my old mid-2010 iMac as a target display (that old iMac has a minidisplay port--no Thunderbolt), and that works great.  I just want a larger screen.
I called Apple support, and the tech rep wasn't sure it would work.  He seemed to think that the 30" Cinema displays were made with different connections.  Some had minidisplay ports (which he thought would work), and some a cord built into them that provided some other type of connection (that I guess would not work as far as he knew).
Can anyone tell me if this would work?  Would my new iMac and its video card support the 30" Cinema display?  Would the result be as sharp and good-looking as my iMac's built-in 27" display, but only bigger (which is what I'm hoping for)?  Any advice is appreciated.
I don't yet know many of the specifics of the 30" Cinema display I'm considering.  I know it is about 3 years old.  And here is a picture of the back of it:

Yes, you should be able use the 30" Cinema Display with your new iMac without problems. You'll need a mini-DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter
I haven't had the 30" myself to test so I don't know if there any caveats. Perhaps someone else here will have personal experience.
    Regards.

  • How to connect old Apple Cinema Display to new Mac Mini?

    Hello,
I'm considering replacing an old Mac Mini with the new model, but I intend to keep on using my old Apple Cinema Display 20" with it. But i'm having some trouble finding the right conversor (it seems there isn't any from Apple...)
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

If by "old" apple cinema the OP is referring to the aluminum displays of the later mac models, then yes, that's a no-brainer, the problem is that if the OP is referring to the "real" old apple cinema displays, which have a DVI-type connection with power included on the same cable, like the displays the former Mac G4 or G5 had, then he needs a ADP to DVI port, which in most cases it cost more than the actual monitor itself.. I guess the OP needs to specify what does it mean by old apple displays or throw in a link to an image..

  • How do i connect my Fujitsu Tablet + mac Pro to Apple Cinema Display 23'?

    Dear Mac users
thanks in advance for your help.
    I currently own:
    • Fujitsu T 4220 (tablet) – Mobile Intel 965 Express – 60 Hertz – goes up to 1680*1050 (guess SXGA) – (it has the following other supported resolutions: 1400*1050, 1280*1024, 1280*768, 1280*720, 1024*768, and 800*600)
    • Mac Pro
    • Apple Cinema Display 23’
What I would like to do is, please refer to the jpeg posted on http://www.flickr.com/photos/34831802@N06/3234336204/, connect – at the same time – my tablet pc and my Mac Pro to the 23' Apple Cinema Display and switch (when I need) from tablet to MacPro using the same 23’ ACD. Top would be to be able to switch for one to the other while they’re both switched on. Usually on 2 pc’s with vga I’d use a switch A → B (in the jpeg it would be I → E) with a selector.

+ others on the net and have (hopefully) understood that:
    a) from Vga to Dvi I need a converter such as Geffen’s or similar
    b) the problem with ACD 23’ is that it has only 3 resolutions: 1024*640, 1280*800 or 1920*1200
In the attached image I guessed a connection in order to connect – at the same time – both the machines to the 23’ ACD:
    1) my fujitsu tablet (i in the image) has to be connected, with a Vga cable (h), to the Vga → Dvi converter (g).
    2) from the Vga → Dvi converter (g) I need to connecto to the Dvi switch (c)
    3) easier is connecting the Mac Pro (e), since I only need a Dvi cable (d) to connecto to the Dvi switch (c)
    4) the Dvi switch (c) will then be connected to the 23’ ACD with a Dvi cable
    Now, my questions are:
    a) is the solution described above (Vga cable (h) to the Vga → Dvi converter (g)) a good solution or should I use, instead, a docking statione that comes with a Fujitsu Port Replicator (FPCPR65) which has a 1 x DVI-D port?
    b) Given the 3 resolution accepted by the 23’ ACD (1024*640, 1280*800 or 1920*1200), I do not understand if I can use my tablet through a Vga to Dvi Converter and at which resolution (my tablet has the following other supported resolutions: 1680*1050, 1400*1050, 1280*1024, 1280*768, 1280*720, 1024*768, and 800*600).
    c) Is there a way, also using an external video card or converter, to bring my resolution from 1680*1050 to 1920*1200? (the 16:10 ratio is in fact the same = WXGA (1280x800), WXGA+ (1440x900), WSXGA+ (1680x1050), WUXGA (1920x1200)
    d) Talking about Vga → Dvi converter (g), am aware of the gefen product. Can you please list some others that might be good as well?
    e) And how about the DVI switch? Any will work? Any particular suggestion?
Thank you very much for your help.
If you have any other suggestion, please let me know.
    Regards,
    Emil

    Noone to help me?
    No ideas?
    Thanks,

    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting a keyboard to Apple Cinema Display with MBA

    Hi,
I have a mid 2013 MacBook Air, (OSX 10.9.2). My Apple Cinema Display is the older 23" (got it in 2008) and I have connected my MacBook Air to the display through my mini display port DVI adapter and it works great.
My question is --- I want to now connect a keyboard --- does a wireless keyboard or mouse work? My Cinema display only has a USB 2.0 and FW ports.
    Thanks alot.

Yes.  Wireless mice or keyboards connect to the computer via Bluetooth.  The display type doesn't matter.
