WPs Device Unable to Connect to AirPort Extreme

I am having issues connecting a webcam that has a WPS button to AirPort Extreme.  Airport Extreme doesn't have a button to accept the connection and my AirPort Utility doesn't have an option to add a new client to my wireless network.  Any suggestions?WPS

Configure the printer through the wireless setup utility... I did it with HP by joining the HP setup network.. and then going to safari, bookmarks, show all bookmarks, click bonjour, then join your wireless network from there. Uninstall any software previously installed....

Unable to connect to Airport Extreme since installing Mountain Lion. If I go to Finder > Shared I can see it listed but then when I go to connect to it won't. I can see it in Airport Utility and connect to the internet but when I try and connect to the base station to use my hard drive / printer it won't connect?
Tech Support tried saying it could be the devices attached don't have an update for them yet but doesn't explain why I can't connect to the base station. In their defence I can see it in airport utility so the base station does work with the OS X
However I've just tried connecting by an ethernet cable and connects fine?

    Ok .
Power down the base station (Mine is connected to a 4 way so i down powered base station, printer and hard drive) powered back up and now when I go to finder then look at the shared section I can view my files on the base station.
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to connect new airport extreme to iMAC or MacBook Pro

This must have been covered but I am unable to find a thread addressing my problem. I have just purchased a new Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). I updated all of my software and have tried to configure the AEBS for both my laptop and iMAC. I connect to the internet (IN) using a cable modem (Motorola SB 5101). Using the ethernet cable I can connect to the IN with both computers. I have configured the AEBS and the "light" comes up green.
Using the "diagnostics" program associated with Safari on my laptop (OS 10.5.6), all but the last 2 lights come up green. I do not know how to overcome this problem.
On the iMAC (OS 10.4.11) I get the message "Airport not configured". When I go to the Airport Utility App and scan, it tells me that a wireless device is not detected, even though the unit is adjacent to the computer. It does have an early wireless card (0x14E4,0x89) Firmware (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0).
I hope there are better directions somewhere than what came with the unit.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Bob Timmons, thanks for the response... I will respond to your questions..
    1) Yes, I can connect to the internet by attaching the single ethernet type cable from the modem to each computer in-turn.
    2) Yes, when I connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the airport base station, I get a green light. (circle icon)
    3) I do not (as yet) have a spare ethernet cable to try the connection from the AEBS to either computer.
Making these connections work is a little like magic to me. I have an airport express at work that I successfully connected, but when it happened I was not sure what I did.
I get a little confused because there is the Airport programming software, the Diagnostics software that pops up from Safari, and Network software in Preferences. I am not sure which one is the main one to use.
In addition, I try to Connect, wirelessly in several places. Sometimes in an airport where an "automatic" IP address seems to be assigned and sometimes at work where we use static IP addresses.
    I need a map...;o)

  • Can multiple devices access drives connected to Airport extreme at the same time?

i have a few days to decide before someone gets me either an airport extreme or a decent NAS adapater to using with my existing airport express, from the US. my airport express serves me good for all my networking needs but i have decided to take my portable media wireless.
i wanna know which will be the best option? to plug in the portable hdds to an a.extreme via a usb hub and share it across devices or to do the same with a nas adapter using my existing current generation a.express?
i got ios, android, mac and windows devices on my network. and an apple tv.
    please share ur thoughts.
    Neerav

Express is slow ethernet.. 10/100 only. The max speed of any connection to a USB hard disk is limited severely by the 100mbit..
USB is always slow btw.. This is actually a poor way to share a drive. A cheap NAS.. ie ethernet to Sata directly is far far superior and a single disk NAS can be had cheaply.. you will never get close with USB in network situations.
If you use a hub though, you can plug multiple disks into an Extreme.. I guess the network speed is at least no worse than the USB hub -- ethernet devices which are lousy as a whole.
Never forget you have the fastest ethernet adapters and fastest possible connectors already on computers on the network.. people are so utterly mesmerized by NAS they forget.. a FW800 or better USB3 if you have a newer computer shared to the network from a computer has much higher throughput and is much cheaper than even the very low end network stand alone boxes.

  • Unable to connect to Airport Extreme on a daily basis without reseting the router

I have an Airport Extreme Router connected directly to my cable modem.  My Airport Utilities are current and router is set to 7.5.2 firmware (latest).  I have nine devices set to connect via wireless and three that are connected via cable.  I am not using the 5ghz as there are some older devices that will not connect.  On a daily basis all of the wireless systems will not connect.  I get a password incorrect on low signal error.  I have reset the password from over eight characters to eight to see if that was the issue.  No dice.  I have to manually unplug the router and the wait for it to reset then all the devices will connect.  The three devices I have connected directly do not have this issue.
I have deleted the network configurations from the devices and tried to reconnect but I get the same error, password incorrect or signal not found even when it shows that I have five green bars.  I have the router set to assign DHCP and changed the lease to 60 days.  Since the router does not have UPnP, I have a few ports open to allow my XBox and PS3 clear connection.  I have also reset the whole router and started it from scratch.  Rebuilding the network with a different name, password and such.
I have seen on the board that others are having issues with this.  Aside from disconnecting the power from the router I have not found a solution.  This issue started a month or so ago. Does anyone have a solution?  Is this a result of updating the firmware to 7.5.2 which came out in July?  Or is there something that I am completely missing in troubleshooting?

The router has been working for a bout a year or more.  Would it suddenly go snafu and need to be replaced?  Seems to me it would be having the issue from the start.

  • MacBook Unibody (Early Jan 2010) Unable to Connect to Airport Extreme

The situation is that one MacBook purchased in Jan 2010 constantly unable to connect to the Airport Extreme.
The other MacBook could connect successfully without must fuss. Even the Win7 laptops also has no issue to be connected.
Do you think the MacBook has a connectivity issue?
    Thanks in advance.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take a minute or so to try.

  • Devices not connecting through Airport extreme wired connection

    Hi
I just got an Airport extreme to use as an extention of my existing network, and to plug some devices in so that they can connect to the internet for updates (Sony Blu-ray player, dish network receiver, slingbox)...
my wireless is from a linksys/cisco wireless router (4-port) wrt310n, that is connected to my cable modem. The airport is set and has the green light showing. The blu-ray player and dishnetwork receiver are plugged into two of the ports. The blu-ray player says it can't connect to the internet. The dish network receiver says it is connected, giving ip address/submask, etc.
If I take my macbook pro and turn off wireless and plug into the airport it will not connect to the internet.
What have I not done to allow wired connection to the airport extreme to connect to the net?
    thanks
    David

Thanks for the clarification of your setup.
Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that this is not going to work.
The ethernet ports on the Extreme will only be active if you configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". But, it can only "extend" a wireless network from another Apple router. It's not compatible for this purpose with your Cisco router or any other manufacturer's router.
If you are unable to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal.
I should clarify that if you connect the Cisco and AirPort Extreme using ethernet, you would not use the "extend" setting on the AirPort Extreme. This is only used if the device is connecting to another Apple router.

  • I am unable to see my Airport Extreme/Express on my MacBook via Airport Utility

    I have two issues:
    1. I am unable to see my Airport Extreme and my Airport Express via my MacBook Air's Airport Utility when I scan for Base Stations. However, the computer is happily connected to the wireless network of my Extreme (the Express is used to extend range)
    2. I am unable to see a HDD that is connected via USB cable to the Airport Extreme.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

    Further info:
    Setup
MacBook Air running OS X 10.5.8
    AirPort Extreme Base Station
AirPort Express used to extend range
    AirPort Utility v5.5.3
The MacBook Air is actually connected to the wireless network provided by the two AirPorts!
Oddly, I see both AirPorts just fine when using my older PowerBook G4 with an older version of the AirPort Utility.
In addition, I cannot see the external HDD connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and my wireless printer (HP D410a) suddenly stopped working via the MacBook Air. However, it works just fine from my iPhone, which is connected to the same AirPort Extreme/Express wireless network.
Recently, at the request of Sky Broadband, I switched to fixed IP addresses instead of DHCP, as I was having issues with the DHCP set-up.

  • Multiple devices no longer work with Airport Extreme

I can’t get multiple devices to work with my Airport Extreme any longer. Normally, I have 4 wireless devices with my Airport Extreme: MacBook Pro, iPhone 5, Sony Wireless Blu-Ray Player, and Windows Laptop. On a daily basis, I use the MacBook Pro and iPhone 5 at the same time on the network. I have even had all 4 devices on the network without a problem.
Problem: Since last night, I cannot use any of the devices on the network at the same time. Every time I try to use two devices, I am asked to login into to my ISP and the device currently on the network is booted off.
Additional info: I live in an apartment complex and use the complex’s ISP. Unusually, since yesterday another device (my guess is a neighbor’s Airport Express) has been showing up in my AirPort Utility. I cannot access that device because it is password protected.
Attempted Solutions: I have tried a soft reboot, hard reboot, and factory reboot of the Airport Extreme, but still have the same problem. I have also cycled the modem on a repeated basis.
The ISP does not think it is their problem as I can still connect to them through either directly plugging into the modem/outlet or through the AirPort Extreme. The ISP has great customer service and are usually very helpful, so I don’t think they are trying to blow me off.
Perhaps, my AirPort Extreme’s settings are off.
If anyone can provide me with a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried a soft reboot, hard reboot, and factory reboot of the Airport Extreme
A factory reset on the AirPort Extreme would have configured the AirPort Extreme to act as a router, providing normal DHCP and NAT services for your network.
But, the symptoms that you describe indicate that the AirPort Extreme's Router Mode settings may be configured for "Off (Bridge Mode)".....a setting in which another router at the apartment complex would be responsible for allowing multiple devices on your network to connect.
Using your MacBook Pro, we need to check the Router Mode setting on your AirPort Extreme as follows:
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Please check the current setting for Router Mode and report on what that setting might be.......either DHCP and NAT......or "Off (Bridge Mode)".

  • I connected an airport extreme (2013) to an existing pc network

I connected an airport extreme (2013) to an existing pc network and I had to change all my ip addresses.  I managed to catch on to the apple replacement range and reset all my printers' addresses manually.  Was there an easier way to handle this?  Also, I lost the connection to my WD Worldbook drive though and haven't been able to come up with a work around.  Any ideas would help, thanks!

First, to answer your question about the WD drive - I could not find it with an ethernet connection.  I tried connecting to the usb port on the Extreme, but it was not visible there either.
When connecting an external network drive to the AirPort Extreme by Ethernet, the drive would be providing the file sharing service. This would be typical of a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. If your WD Worldbook offers NAS services then it should be found by network clients per WD's instructions.
When connected to the Extreme's USB port, the Extreme would take over the file server services. However, the drive must not be formatted in either NTFS or ExFAT as either are not recognizable by the Extreme for sharing out. My guess is this is the case and why the AirPort Utility cannot "find" the drive.
If your WD Worldbook has an Ethernet interface that is the one you should use for best performance. It is still possible that this drive is using an IP address that is not in the default range of the Extreme.
How can I reset the IP range on the router.  I have to use the iPad app to manage the router and I didn't see any way to change the range.  Did I miss something or would I need to use an Mac computer to get more options?
You can change the IP address range of your AirPort using the AirPort Utility on your iPad.
    To change the range:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the AirPort Extreme, and then, select Edit.
    Select Advanced.
    Select DHCP Range.
    Select 192.168

  • What hdd to connect to airport extreme

So I decided to go with the Airport Extreme base, because I already have an external hdd. The power supply for the hdd is usb , but i cannot seem to connect from my laptop to transfer files wiresley. can someone help?

There are advantages and disadvantages to connecting the AirPort Extreme in normal router mode or in bridge mode in the type of set up that you have.
Technically, bridge mode is probably the more correct way to set up the AirPort Extreme, but this will likely allow you to "see" other users and their devices in the same complex....similar to what you would see if you were at a coffee place with free WiFi.
Although you may be able to "see" other users on the network...and they can see you as well....they cannot access any of your computers or devices unless they have the password.
If you configure the AirPort Extreme to act in normal router mode, you will be able to "shield" your private network. The downside is that this will likely create what is known as a Double NAT errror. This is usually not serious on a simple network...but the Double NAT error will create issues with online gaming consoles and other interactive type of devices.
When, you say that you cannot get the AirPort Extreme to work properly....can you provide some more details about what you have tried and the results so far?

  • Apple TV often drops connection with AirPort Extreme and Express stations

    Here's my setup:
    - Mac Pro in basement office connected to AirPort Extreme (802.11n) station via Ethernet
    - AirPort Extreme station running WPA/WPA2 security and 802.11n (b/g compatible)
    - AirPort Express station across basement room connected to stereo expressly for AirTunes purposes
    - Apple TV and MacBook Pro on house ground floor, both connecting to the network via WiFi
(unless specified, the software and firmware in my devices is all extremely up to date. I write about Apple news for a living so I know when the updates land and install all of them almost immediately)
    Here's what's going wrong:
Since I have one of the first gen Apple TVs with a 40GB hard drive but a 100GB iTunes library, I use streaming almost 100% of the time. The Apple TV can usually connect to my iTunes library for streaming via WiFi, but if the AirPort Express (a b/g device, mind you) is active on the network, the Apple TV and even my MacBook Pro get booted off the network usually between 12-24 hours, if not 48. Sometimes WiFi seems to work itself out and I can get the MacBook Pro back online, sometimes it even needs a full restart, as Mac OS X will start giving me nothing but "there was an error trying to join this network" warnings. Just as frustrating though, the Apple TV getting booted off means I need go through the whole tedious process of connecting it to WiFi again (it doesn't remember the password for some stupid reason), and then manually surfing again through the Sources list just to get back to streaming my media.
What the heck is going on? Is it the kind of security I'm running? Should I try WEP or... none at all? I would try "downgrading" the Extreme station's network type to only b/g (excluding n entirely), but I don't see that option in the radio settings anymore; it's all just flavors 802.11n now. When I set up the AirPort Express to connect to the network just for AirTunes streaming to the stereo, I used the setup wizard that the AirPort Utility provides. Should I attach it a different way? Perhaps manually set it to "participate in a WDS network" or "extend a wireless network?"
Any thoughts or similar experiences are very, very appreciated. My wife and I love this setup, but its unreliability is really getting on my nerves. Thanks in advance.
    Message was edited by: bedoughty

Firstly, the easiest bit (although I don't believe you need to do this):
I would try "downgrading" the Extreme station's network type to only b/g (excluding n entirely), but I don't see that option in the radio settings anymore
You will get additional settings if you hold down the option key while browsing the radio settings drop down menu.
Moving on: Unfortunately a dropped connections seems to be a problem with umpteen causes and not only is it difficult to troubleshoot with someone in a forum it can also be made even more difficult because many problems are associated with network settings on a router that the person who is trying to help is unfamiliar with.
However you seem to be convinced your problems arise when your express is running which may narrow things down a little if correct, if not it may actually lead us away from the answer to your issue.
Is it the kind of security I'm running? Should I try WEP or... none at all?
I use WPA and have no problems (password = 8 Characters)
Should I attach it a different way? Perhaps manually set it to "participate in a WDS network" or "extend a wireless network?
I have my expresses set to participate in a WDS network, but that's because I use them for other things other than itunes, I would have thought 'join a network' would be fine.
You could check that all your devices are using independent IP addresses and all are using the same subnet. You could also check that no two devices have the same mac address, I've been told a million times this can't happen, but I've seen it. You may be wise to check these things before and after your devices have been 'kicked off the network", you may even want to write them down to see if any are changing.

  • Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

Do I need to connect the AirPort Extreme with a ethnet cable

    Hi Tracy,
I have an airport express connected by ethernet cable to a Netgear modem which is connected to a phone socket. Those devices stay at one end of the house. I can use my MacBook Pro to connect to the internet (by Wi-Fi, no cables) anywhere else in the house.  I hope this helps.

  • Any recommended modem to connect to airport extreme?

I'm looking for a "simple" modem hook up to my new airport extreme. I don't want to have to try and put my excisting westell 327w dsl router/modem into bridge mode. I'm not to sure if its possible or if I'll be able to do it successfully. Is there any modems that that are a easy setup with the airport extreme. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the discussions, CooteyBug!
The only real reason to configure the modem as a simple "bridge" with the AirPort Extreme is if you need to be able to activate the Guest Network feature. Otherwise, the AirPort Extreme will work just fine in bridge mode to provide a dual band wireless network. If you don't need the wireless provided by the Westell gateway, you can turn it off, or perhaps use that as a Guest Network if you need that feature.
If you decide that you need a simple modem, It's always a good idea to start with your service provider to see if they offer a "bridge only" device. Often, they will provide a modem at no charge in return for a commitment of a year or more of continued service. This way, you can be assured that the provider will support the product in case you have internet connection difficulties.
If your provider does not offer a simple DSL modem, the Motorola AT&T 2210 should work with virtually any DSL service line. It will take a few minutes to configure the modem properly as a "bridge", but this is not difficult with the web based setup page(s) for the device.
In turn, the AirPort Extreme will need to be configured to "Connect Using PPPoE" with the modem in bridge mode. This is easily accomplished with AirPort Utility, the setup application for the AirPort Extreme.
