WRK54G routers ip address resets itself
Every so often my IP address for my WRK54g wireless router (v1) changes its ip address from whatever I set it to to some strange ip address that starts with a 0. I cant remember the address at the moment, but I have to go into the router's admin and set the ip back to what I want, then reboot the router. I might have to do this several times to get the ip address to stick. I have a network with 3 wireless pc's, 1 wired Mac, and 1 wireless mac, along with an airport to send my music wirelessly to my speakers. Does anyone else have the ip address reset problem? If so, I would appreciate your assistance.
the IP address that it sets itself to is
0.1.225.9.
I am begining to think that it might be caused when my wireless laptop connects to my home network after having been away from home where it was attatched to my work network. (my work network has a different LAN ip but the same subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)
I am not sure that this is what is causing the problem, and it certainly should not cause the problem, but it is just a thought.

ISR router cannot receive packets addressed to itself?
Hello, Support Team and All Members,
I have a C881G router connected to 2 different ISP networks with a failover function configured and running properly. The following is a simple network diagram:
The main WAN traffic goes through the ISP 1 LTE network and the router, provided by that ISP. The DMS Host on that router points to our C881G router Fa4 WAN interface (192.168.1.10), so the ISP 1 NAT Router is practically transparent to our traffic. Our C881G tracks the DNS server within the ISP 1 network (194.dns.isp.1) and in case of it's inaccessibility the traffic is switched to the backup link, served by the on-board HSPA+ modem (interface Dialer0 of our C881G), connected to the ISP 2 HSPA network. It works fine, but the problem is with the PPTP connections from outside to the C881G router. The PPTP calls work always from the PPTP Client 2 PC (directly connected to the Fa4 subnet), but from PPTP Client 1 PC it works only in the failover mode - when all traffic goes through the ISP 2. The incoming path via ISP 1 does not work. The problem is rather not connected to the PPTP VPN, GRE, authentication or encryption, because just the first TCP 1723 SYN packets are dropped at Fa4 much earlier by the C881G router. The debug ip packet detail shows the following routing decision:
IP: s=194.xxx.yyy.80 (FastEthernet4), d=192.168.1.10, len 40, input feature
TCP src=4241, dst=1723, seq=791503628, ack=4111924253, win=0 ACK RST, MCI Check(94), rtype 0, forus FALSE, sendself FALSE, mtu 0, fwdchk FALSE
FIBipv4-packet-proc: route packet from FastEthernet4 src 194.xxx.yyy.80 dst 192.168.1.10
FIBfwd-proc: Default:192.168.1.10/32 receive entry
FIBipv4-packet-proc: packet routing failed
All other packets addressed from outside networks to the router itself and received via the Fa4 are also dropped in this way. All packets sent to Fa4 from the local subnet 192.168.1.0 are accepted. The routing table shows only standard connected interfaces and 1 static route to the 194.dns.isp.1 via 192.168.1.1, which is also the tracked gateway of last resort.
Router runs the CEF.
I cannot locate in the following configuration file any statement preventing the packets addressed to the router itself:

I really appreciate your suggestions,
MaciexHello Maciex,
I am afraid that the debug ip packet detailed has led you to a wrong conclusion. Whatever the "forus FALSE" means, it does not indicate that the router refuses to consider the packet as addressed to itself. I've just concocted a very quick test - two routers connected back to back, one is 10.0.1.1/24, the other is 10.0.1.2/24. I am pinging 10.0.1.2 from 10.0.1.1 and this is what 10.0.1.2 shows me:
*Aug 4 23:09:38.067: IP: s=10.0.1.1 (Ethernet2/1), d=10.0.1.2, len 100, input feature
*Aug 4 23:09:38.071: ICMP type=8, code=0, MCI Check(94), rtype 0, forus FALSE, sendself FALSE, mtu 0, fwdchk FALSE
*Aug 4 23:09:38.079: FIBipv4-packet-proc: route packet from Ethernet2/1 src 10.0.1.1 dst 10.0.1.2
*Aug 4 23:09:38.083: FIBfwd-proc: Default:10.0.1.2/32 receive entry

*Aug 4 23:09:38.095: ICMP type=8, code=0
*Aug 4 23:09:38.099: IP: s=10.0.1.1 (Ethernet2/1), d=10.0.1.2, len 100, stop process pak for forus packet
*Aug 4 23:09:38.103: ICMP type=8, code=0
*Aug 4 23:09:38.107: FIBipv4-packet-proc: route packet from (local) src 10.0.1.2 dst 10.0.1.1
*Aug 4 23:09:38.111: FIBfwd-proc: packet routed by adj to Ethernet2/1 10.0.1.1
*Aug 4 23:09:38.111: FIBipv4-packet-proc: packet routing succeeded

*Aug 4 23:09:38.119: ICMP type=0, code=0
*Aug 4 23:09:38.127: IP: s=10.0.1.2 (local), d=10.0.1.1 (Ethernet2/1), len 100, sending full packet
*Aug 4 23:09:38.131: ICMP type=0, code=0
Note that even here, the router said the same as yours - and yet it did respond successfully to the ping request.
There is, I am afraid, a more mundane problem. PPTP is generally incompatible with PAT. PPTP uses two data streams: one is the control channel run over TCP port 1723, the other is the actual tunneled traffic - however, that traffic is essentially GRE-encapsulated, put directly into IP packets with no port information (there is no TCP/UDP involved). Without special support on the ISP 1 NAT box, PPTP sessions will not be able to pass through it. You will have to negotiate this with your ISP 1 - ask him to configure its NAT box with PPTP Application Layer Gateway support and allow IP protocol 47 (GRE).
This would explain why the PPTP Client 2 can always connect to your router - it is because there is no NAT/PAT/FW between the client and the router. It would also explain why Client 1 is able to connect over ISP 2 - because on that path, there is no NAT/PAT/FW box apparently present and there is a direct connectivity to the public IP address of your router.
Try talking to your ISP 1 about this.
Best regards,
Peter -
WRT54G resetting itself at random times
Hi my router resets itself at random times it could be after 2 mins from the first reset,10 mins after, a few seconds after or could go the whole day without resetting itself. i have the latest version 7 firmware. i seem to notice that sometimes when someone uses our other computer that accesses the internet through it wirelessly that it happens more often but i cant really confirm. Need help on this please it really is causing alot of problems.
In this case i think you need to Re-Flash the firmware on your Router. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router... -
IOS4 on iP 3G. Does email accunt reset itself?
Hello:
Upgraded to iOS4.0 the day when released. It was awesome but after 10 days or so it started getting choppy.
Upgraded to iOS4.0.1 the day when released. It was again awesome but after 5-10 days it becoming choppy again..
It got so worse that whenever my iphone freezes for more than 1min.. it reboots itself and also looses some of my data.. Specially, if it freezes on my email it would loose all my emails and resets itself.. So now I have more than 70 unread emails (as my outlook is not auto sync capable).. It is frustrating..
Does anyone have this issue?? Do not bother calling iphone care.. as they charge for the care (more than 2 yrs).. I am ******.. Cannot inform apple care about this issue.. Any one in the same boat????
Message was edited by: BandraxWho do you want to respond? This is a user forum, and Apple does not respond here.
I have an iPhone 3G with 4.0.1. I have three email accounts on it. Two POP accounts and one Exchange account. The three of them work flawlessly. I would say you have more going on than this. What other user troubleshooting have you done? If a power off/on doesn't work, then a reset. If the reset doesn't work, you can try a restore, first from a backup, if no help, then as a new phone. However, I would first try and delete the email account and add it back again. Something sounds corrupted on your phone. If removing and adding the mail account back doesn't help, I would recommend restoring the phone as a new one. Then add the account new and see if that helps.
Also, flooding the feedback forum multiple times a day isn't going to help your issue any further. Apple has stated they are looking into complaints about the 3G running slow with iOS 4.0. They will be doing an upgrade in the near future. iOS 4.1 is in beta and it is said it will be addressing the speed complaints. -
One week old WRT54GS v6 worked fine until two days ago...
I noticed that the power light was flashing rapidly, then going steady for a while, and then flashing again. I tried to log into the router and I could not. Unplugged, and plugged directly into my cable modem (TimeWarner), and I still didn't get any connectivity.
Rebooted, and all worked fine w/o router in the loop. Downloaded newest firmware from Linksys, reset the router (which took 4 tries for it to finally reset itself), loaded up new firmware, and all was fine.
Worked for the rest of that night, and all through yesterday. Now the thing has reset itself again!?
It's doing the exact same thing, and before I go through the trouble of jacking with it all over again, anyone got any ideas on how to completely avoid this?
Message Edited by primus on 11-05-2006 11:29 PMpowr light blinking, try first to set static ip on the pc and forced the ethernet card that you have on the pc that is connected directly to the router.. and after that try to ping the 192.168.1.1 that is the ip address of the router.. if you got replies... you can revive tha router by upgrading the firmware of the router...
have a great day... -
Bridging Two WRK54G Routers together
I have two (2) WRK54G routers. One is upstairs and one is downstairs. I would like to bridge these two (2) together. I have several large printers upstairs and some video editing hardware downstairs.
I have attempted to work with Tech Support but have found they are no help. Does anyone have any idea how to do this?
Downstairs Router = 192.168.1.1 (this has the connection to the Internet (COX)
Upstairs Router = 192.168.1.2
DHCP enabled on downstairs router 192.168.1.100-110
Desktop upstairs = DHCP Client
Upstairs Laptop = 192.168.1.11
Upstairs HP 8000 Laser = 192.168.1.21
Upstairs HP 4050 Color Laser = 192.168.1.22
Downstairs Desktop = DHCP Client
Any idea of the settings to bridge as well as settings (would like to assign static IP addresses to all units).
Thanks,
- Michaelactually, the wireless router can't be bridged... are you refering to make the router act as just a regular switch?
you can disable the DHCP server. BUT?!!! since a that is a wireless router, that router cannot receive or repeat a wireless signal.. so it can't connect wireless with another wireless router... what you need to do is o hardwire this 2nd wrk54g to the 1st one... disable the wireless of your wrk54g so it won't conflict with the 1st wrk54g's signal.

Please help me
Message was edited by: lexusssssError 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

Mid-2010 MacBook Pro Resets Itself
I bought my 13" Macbook Pro in September of last year. Lately it has intermittently started resetting itself, meaning in the middle of whatever I'm working on, my screen will suddenly turn a light blue color, then the desktop will reload afresh, with all the applications I'd been working on previously no longer open. It seems to happen when I'm switching between programs, primarily when I'm switching back to Safari or Word, but that may just be coincidence. It's frustrating, but I haven't lost any data yet. I've run all software updates, if that makes any difference.
Any thoughts? Thanks!I suppose I should have mentioned that I've been making frequent Time Machine backups and save my most important files in cloud storage. I'm certainly not averse to making a Genius Bar appointment, but I do have reservations about how much they'll be able to help given that I can't reproduce the problem at will.

HP Officejet Pro 8500A Periodically resets itself
About every 20 minutes the screen on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A goes blank, then redisplays, followed by the carriage shifting sounding like the printer is resetting itself to print a job. I'm set up on a WiFi connection and have no screen blanking set. This resetting is VERY disconcerting as it happens with no warning. How can I stop this periodic reset?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi HevnLgh,
I completed all of the steps you recommended and they did not solve the problem. However two days later the problem has disappeared.
The problem was not that the printer was powering off. Also it was not connected to a computer in any manner other than WiFi, though it did have a phone line connection to send/receive FAXes. The printer display was blanking for a few seconds, followed by redisplay and carriage movement that sounded just like when it was getting ready to print. However no printout resulted, nor was there any print job pending.
Now the display goes dim periodically for a few seconds, but comes back on. However there is no longer any carriage movement or other noises. Since the sudden noise was always the annoying factor I'm satisfied that the issue is resolved.

Mac OS 10.4 reset itself
Hi,
I was using my PowerBook G4 today like I always do. I was downloading some new icons from the apple website and I was writing a paper for school. I was pasting some of these new icons onto folders, when my customize buttons on the Finder dissappeared. I thought the computer was just having a small problem, so I restarted it.
When I did that, the entire OS was changed. The dock was reset back to factory settings (except instead of the icons appearing, they were question marks). My iTunes library was erased, as was my iPhoto library (and all of my other applications were reset). My edits to the Finder (such as backgrounds) were set back to white, and edits inside of applications were undone (for instance, my bookmarks in Safari were reset back to factory settings).
What happened? And is there a way to recover the settings I had put into the computer? It didn't delete my MS Word and Excel files, but it seems to have deleted or reset everything else. I have had no problems with my computer before. Nothing like this has ever happened to it before. Thanks for your help in advance.
PowerBook G4 12.1 1.5 GHz 512 MB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.6)Update:
After digging around more, I've found most of my files. My iTunes music is all there for instance. However, I have to reimport the files into iTunes to get them to play.
So, my question is now... what happened? Why did my computer reset itself, but not delete my files? And how do I keep this from happening again in the future? -
My iPhone 3gs is not working properly and hasn't been since about September of last year. When switched on (Quite often it won't even turn on) it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and just resets itself over and over until power is gone. Occasionally after switching on and off a few times it functions normally for a few hours and some times even a couple of days but eventually always turns itself off and goes back to the 'Update Completed' screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or a way of fixing it?
Morning JordenR,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can resolve many restore issues using the troubleshooting steps documented here.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

I got my Sony VAIO laptop just before christmas and downloaded itunes from this website onto it. But every few days it resets itself and all my music, playlists and the genius sidebar disappear. To fix it I just drag and drop all the stuff in the itunes music folder back into itunes, but it's very frustrating and I shouldn't have to do it. I never experienced this with my home computer which also operates on vista. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to fix it?
The Sony Media Management software is causing a conflict with itunes.
