Wrong capture time when importing from iPhoto to FCPX

I am experiencing a strange problem when importing from iPhoto to FCPX. If I open the info panel in iPhoto I see the real date/time when the picture was taken, but if I import them to an event in FCPX using the PHotos Browser and I check the info it shows the time when the image was imported to IPhoto and everything gets messed up.
I have search for somebody with same problem but I have not found anything so far.
MY workaround is to import directy onto the timeline, but it is... well, a workaround.
Thanks in advance

Why is knowing that important during the edit?
Yes, FCP only shows the date imported" date metadata.  Future updates of FCP X I assume will add more metadata support, such as Creation Date and Modification Date, since metadata is vital to FCP X and there are some metadata handling features that are on the way.

  • Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

  • Incorrect time on imports from iPhoto

I am trying to understand Aperture before importing my iPhoto library with some 44,000 photos. In importing a few Events using Aperture's iPhoto Browser, all the photos show up with the wrong time, generally four hours before the time shown in iPhoto. This happens with images taken with three different cameras as well as for scanned images. I have read online that others have had this and similar problems. I have no preset modifications in the Aperture import dialogue.
In looking at the images in Aperture's iPhoto Browser, the times given underneath each image are wrong - but within iPhoto they are correct. When I drag these images into Aperture from the iPhoto Browser, the times are wrong but keywords and ratings transfer correctly.
According to Aperture's metadata, both the EXIF date and the IPTC date created are wrong. The dates are correct when viewed in the application EXIF viewer.
When I drag the same images into Aperture directly from iPhoto, the times are correct - but the images do not have keywords or ratings. (Also, RAW images are dragged in as jpegs, which makes sense.)
When I drag images from iPhoto onto the Desktop and then drag into Aperture, the times are okay but these also do not have keywords etc.
The problem occurs for both referenced and managed images. Images buried within the Aperture application package show the correct time in EXIF viewer.
Has anyone come up with a firm solution to this problem other than manually changing the times for every file?

I've experienced something similar, but it is related to time zone changes (and how the systems handles it).
In my case the picture was taken at e.g. 1am. in Las Vegas (Mountain daylight saving time). Back to Germany, time was 9am. Upon reimport of picture into a different catalog the metadata time was set back to 1am. Looking into it, if an exif time is written to a sidecar file, a correction for time zone is written as difference to the exif time (+-0h seems to be eastern US time...).
So there seems to be an error in handling EXIF Times written to the database while changing time zones.
System: WinXP, Minolta raw and xmp sidecar files.

  • Blurry photos when imported from iPhoto?

I'm noticing that when I insert photos from iPhoto into a movie project, they are blurry and this is hurting the quality of my projects. Does anybody know if there are resolution issues or compatibility issues that will help me with this? I've tried just sharpening the image in the editing pane but it's never very good! What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Here's the deal a little more clearly. I'm simply taking photos on my digital camera on "super high quality" - 3072 x 2304, and when I import them into my iMovie project, they go a little blurry.
Not sure if you are referring to preview window, full-screen previewing, or the final output video being "blurry" here. Suggest yo start off by tracing the image flow. Start off by opening your project package by "Control-Clicking" it in the finder and selecting the "Show Contents" menu option. Then look for a movie file names "Still Images" at this level. Double click this file to open it in the movie player but do not "Play" the movie. Instead, use the right and left arrow keys to step through the file and examine your images carefully. These images should be scaled down from your source images as previously explained. These are the images that iMovie '08 will use when creating your export/shared movie file later. How do they look and what are their dimensions? If all looks okay here and your "softening" is only in the "preview" display, I would likely try making a test export/sharing to see if the actual output looks as "poor" -- i.e., try to determine at what point things may be "going bad." At this point I'm not sure if you are simply "hyper-sensitive" regarding you photos, if iMovie is actually introducing a "normal" loss in quality due to processing, or if you may have a more serious application problem unique to your install for some particular reason.
Can I change settings anywhere so that the resolution's match? How do I know for example, if my project is set at 1920 x 1080 (all I know is I'm working in iMovieHD. Is it possible to import photos so that the resolution isn't automatically scaled up or down?
You can of course pre-scale or crop/scale manually before import into iMovie. However, if you do so in iPhoto/Aperture, I suspect the same scaling algorithm will be used as in iMovie. Have not done so myself, but if I did, I would likely use Photoshop to do this since you can try various resampling options to see which you may prefer for the given content.

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • Iphone 09 crashes every time when importing from an external hard drive

Just bought a mac mini and I wanted to import my jpgs from my windows external disk (disconnected it from the pc temporarily.) However, I do not have enough hard drive on the mini to hold all of the pictures, so I moved the iphoto library (using the instructions obtained on this forum) to a second external drive (formatted as mac.) I'm trying to have iphoto import from the windows external hard drive and place the photos into the library located on the mac external hard drive. This shouldn't be a problem.
However, iphoto will go fine for about 1000 photos then crash. It has done this the last 9 attempts. I also noticed that the photos that have been imported fine (I stopped the import to see how the software would work -- before it crashed out on me) and iphoto displays the photo, but when I click it, iphoto says the file cannot be found.
Wow, this program has some serious flaws. I'm giving up on it, and hoping the Picassa port will work better.

Did you want help or just to share the experience?
    Regards

  • Missing Audio / Sound in imovie with .AVI files when imported from iphoto

fortunately i don't need this answered, eventually figured it out my self, just thought it would be helpful to share the solution to this problem as I'm sure others have experienced it. The problem makes more sense when explained chronologically.
My wife has a Casio digital camera, and had recorded many Movies on it, they all sat in iPhoto all worked fine until i upgraded to Quicktime 7.5, then the audio disappeared. i tried in vain to fix (reinstalled QT 7.5, removed plugins, reinstalled etc.), but to no avail, so i left it - this was all under Tiger, i decided I'd upgrade to Leopard and see if the problem went away.
Before upgrading to Leopard i got iLife 08, when i first launched iMovie08 it pulled in all the movies from iPhoto, but they too had no sound.
Then i upgraded to Leopard, now the quicktime missing audio issue got fixed, so i could hear the audio again when launching quicktime via iPhoto (turns out the issue was with how quicktime was handling adaptive PCM audio stream) - i expected all would be fine in iMovie... but it wasnt.
after much experimentation i realised that i had to force iMovie to re-import all the video from iPhoto, this fixed the issue, but with no obvious way to do this, this is what i did:
    - opened finder, navigated to iphoto library, right click and chose 'show package contents'
    - navigated to the data folder and did a search on this folder only for all movie files (when imovie had originally converted iPhoto movie files into thumbnails it dropped all the thumb size movie files in this folder)
    - deleted all the movie files from the Data folder, making sure not to delete the movie files in any other folders & emptied trash
    - launched imovie, now all the iphoto movies were missing.
    - re-launch iPhoto, whilst holding down shift, option + command keys
    - checked 'rebuild the iphoto library database' only, once done, closed iphoto
    - re-launched imovie, this forced it to re-import all the movies from iphoto
... and then the sound was back.
    FYI
    this worked when using...
    OS 10.5.4
    QT 7.5
    iMovie 7.1.4
    iPhoto 7.1.4

    Hi MGW,
I do not no how things are handled when using HDV and technical documentation is hard to find on this topic of how photo are handled using HDV but in iMovie and most non HDV video editing software the picture is always 72ppi regardless of what is was/is on the outside and the images that appear the worst are the ones with less.
On a side note I don't use iPhoto because of all the superfluous files and thumbnails it creates and it disorganises my photos according to criteria that is completely irrelevant to me. I have had these thumbnails pop up in the browser in the past primarily with any photos that existed in the library prior to any updates. With what I have been working on as of late can understand how and why this could happen.
If you scroll through the media browser dose it appear that the library you are working with duplicates itself somewhere along the line or do you see double images side by side?
What are you machine specs and please include you screen/display size and graphics card information as this is the most relevant information at this point with what you are doing.

  • Duplicates when importing from iPhoto

When i imported pics from iphoto got a lot of duplicates  Why does this happen and how can I prevent it?

Using both Organizer and iPhoto will create duplicates on your hard drive. You need to stick to one app for managing your photos although you can set up the Elements Editor as your external editing tool in iPhoto preferences.

  • IPhoto gets the wrong date/time when importing photos

I just imported a bunch of photos from a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I took the photos today, 10/22/05, but iPhoto has them labelled with yesterday's date. Furthermore, the times are incorrect, with AM and PM apparently switched.
Looking back now, it seems that there's the same problem with all of the photos I've imported with this camera (which I got last month). I don't know if iPhoto has been screwing these things up the whole time, or if this is something that just happened.
I've just triple checked the date/time setting on the camera and confirmed that it is correct. I've confirmed that my computer's date & time are correct also. The other data imported with each photo appears to be correct (e.g. camera make & modal, focal length, ISO speed, etc.).
Anyone have any idea what's going on and how I can fix it?

    Jason,
Which date are you referring to? The EXIF date that is in the Get info window, or the date that is listed in the left info window. If it is the date that is in the info window on the left it is easy enough to fix. Just highlight and put in the correct date. If you need to do this to a lot of images then use the batch change function.
If the EXIF data is wrong, I recommend using the software from canon to get the best EXIF data added to your pics. I realize this adds an additional step, but it will fix your problem. The other thing is that if you start to shoot in RAW, your camera is not supported by iPhoto. So if you attempt to import RAW files from the XT directly into iPhoto it will not import them. I have this camera and it is one of the reasons I have stopped using iPhoto for most things.
You can get the latest versions of the canon software from Canon.com I recommend using these as they are much better than what was in the box that came with my XT. If you plan on working with RAW get the Digital Photo Professional (DDP) Along with the Canons image browser. Both work well on my powerbook and should be great on a Powermac.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto 9.6 and Image Capture can't import from iPhoto, don't recognize devices or SD cards

I'm running the latest version of Yosemite on a recent MacBook Pro, with iPhoto 9.6. I recently noted when trying to import photos from an SD card that iPhoto didn't recognize the SD card automatically, and ask whether I wanted to import my photos. I was able to manually tell iPhoto to import, and find the photos by navigating to the SD card on the desktop and finding the right directories on it, so I figured it was just a hiccup and went on with my life. But now I've hooked up my iPhone 5S via USB to my Mac, and iPhoto neither recognizes that it's connected nor imports photos from it. Image Capture doesn't recognize it, either.
    A few further notes:
    - I'm running iOS 8.1 on the phone.
    - My phone is unlocked when I'm trying to import photos.
    - iTunes 12 can recognize and connect with the phone just fine.
Anyone having similar problems? Is there any help for this issue? Thanks much!

    Hello Nathan,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone is not being recognized as a camera on your computer, please follow the directions in the article linked to below.

  • Huge slide shows in iMovie when imported from iPhoto.

Every year I do a family slide show of between 250-300 slides. In the past, I've created the show in iMovie. This year, I did it in iPhoto. I wanted to put a title at the front, and iMovie has some great editing features for this. I exported the iphoto slide show as movies (with music) using high quality "Display" and second highest "Large". These files are roughly 500MB and 225MB. So far so good. I started a new movie in iMovie using the 1080 HD option. I added a title at the beginning and imported the whole slide show as a single clip. That's it-nothing else. The resulting iMovie was more than 29GB! That's not a typo. The "clip" was 27.5GB. Importing the "Large" export didn't help.
I started over and repeated the process, except that I used the DV-Wide setting to create the movie (instead of 1080HD). This time the title and slide show were 10GB. The imported slide show clip was about 9GB.This is far less but still way too big.
By the way, in past years the same length slide shows created (not imported) in iMovie averaged 1-2GB.
         What am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately that's not a crash log and I'm afraid I can't help interpret that.
Best to tell us what you're trying to do, including a description of the Easy Share software. Is this a plug-in? Has it been updated for 10.6? How are you exporting "to it"? I can't think of anywhere iPhoto exports to apart from the Finder and the named services: Flickr, Facebook etc. and iDVD.

  • Preserving time when importing from Photoshop Elements

I have about 15K photos that I am moving from Photoshop Elements on Windows to Aperture. In Elements all my photos are in time order sequence plus the liberal use of tags. The tags work fine but the time sequence does not. Most photos have the date for when they were taken plus additional dates for when they were edited and/or when they were copied when I upgraded Windows/Photoshop. Some photos were from APS film that Walmart copied to CDs and I manually set the date. I have checked the metadata on a random set of photos and the date used by Photoshop on Windows is correct.
My question is "Can I get Aperture to use the same rules as Photoshop Elements so that when I view "Photos" in Aperture, they will be in the same order. I check the manual; nothing on this. iPhoto has the same problem but then it doesn't support the same level of metadata as Aperture. Specifically, I need Aperture to support "Date Time Original" field when it is available. Otherwise, I will have to stay with Photoshop Elements.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks
PS Using the change date/time facility is not a realistic option since it would take days of labour for something that is already contained in the metadata

This is because, when you port your slideshow to Premiere Elements, it becomes video -- and video has a resolution of essentially 640x480 pixels at 72 ppi.
If you'd like to save your slideshow at full resolution, you'll need to use one of the other export options -- and you'll need to make it playable on a computer, which has a higher resolution than your TV.

  • ICal changes the time when importing from SonyEricsson K750i

    Hi from Stockholm,
When syncing my mobile calendar and my iCal, all the times are set two hours behind.
Ex. in the phone an event could be 16.00-17.00 and in iCal it changes to 18.00-19.00.
The clocks are set the same. Timezone is deactivated.
    What to do?
    Thanx. Clack-boy.
    PowerMac G3, 1,25   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    hi
i guess you are in the wrong time zone with your K750i.
    try these settings:
iCal: in "system preferences": clock: set time zone to CEST (stockholm, sweden)
K750i: settings for "time and date": "time zone" set to GMT + 2.00h and setting for "daylight saving" set to "standard time". don't set it to "Daylight saving" cuz it doesn't work properly then with iCal.
if your time on the K750i is wrong now, correct it in the section "time". but don't change the "time zone" anymore.
hope you got my meaning. apologizing for my english.
now, it should work. at least, my iCal and K750i do
    Regards

  • No faces when imported from iphoto

I am trying aperture and when I imported my library it seems to have lost all the work I put into adding faces and places to my photos i IPhoto. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hello Anette,
How do you see, that your faces are missing? Maybe you have chosen a View that hides the faces.
Which of the two "Faces" buttons did you use to inspect your "Faces"? The one in the Library Inspector pane, or the one in the Toolbar?
The Toolbar button only will reveal the faces in the currently selected item (folder, project) , while the button in the Inspector will show all faces, or you may have set a filter. Try to use the "Faces" button in the Inspector, and check the search fields, if any filter is set.
The same goes for the Places View.
But I do not under stand completely, how you imported the Library: Why was it not possible, to store the images in the Aperture Library? Are you running out of space on the drive, where your Aperture Library is located?
    Regards
