Wrong Glyph for Unicode 2990 in Apple Symbols font

Opening the unicode character table, one can browse to character U+2990 and find its name to be "right square bracket with tick in top corner". The glyph displayed, however, has a tick in the bottom corner instead, and thus looks exactly like U+298E. At least that's the case on my OS X 10.5.8, where Apple Symbol seems to be the only font containing that symbol at all.
I don't personally need that single glyph to be fixed, as I'm not likely to ever actually use it. But I noticed the issue, and being used to open source software, I tend to write a bug report for almost every bug I notice, whether it affects me or not. However, I coulnd't find such a thing as a bug report form on any of the Apple web pages. And as I don't need the fix myself, going for the usual support options doesn't seem the right approach either. So this forum here is my best bet. I hope someone will notice this thread and inform those responsible so that the issue will eventually get resolved. If you have any suggestions where I might better place such a bug report, please let me know.
I guess where there is one wrong character, there might be others. I don't know if that's feasible, but I would welcome a check of all glyphs in that font, not only a fix to the single character I noticed accidentilly.

  • HT1595 Entered wrong password for Wifi and now Apple Tv (2nd) won't connect to wifi.

I got a new router and entered the password for it.  I got it up and running before realising that I needed to change the password to my own personal one.  Now I dont know how to change it on the apple Tv.
I've done all the normal things:  restarted router, restarted apple tv, etc.  Need some help.

    Hi,
after changing the wep code on my router, I had trouble resetting the configuration on my appletv.  If you select your router from the available networks list, it uses the stored wep code, which of course no longer works.
to specify a new one, while appletv is trying to connect to that router you need to quickly hit the menu button on your appletv remote.  You will then be prompted to enter a new wep code.
hope this helps people with this problem in the future.

  • Apple Symbols font not working with Photoshop CS2...

This seems rather strange to me, but only a few characters will type....I've tried 'option+key' - 'control+key' - shift+key and 'apple+key' ....and the ones that show up, I do not even see in the font book display of this font. I have done a search and found a document about "special characters and symbols", but could not find the described character palette in PS.
Should I be using some other key - like an F key or something?

    Hello
Perhaps your script used to work under pre-OSX10.5 (AppleScript 1.x) but now fails under OSX10.5 (AppleScript 2.x)?
If so, the most likely cause is the drastic change in internal text handling between them. In AS2.x, internal text is Unicode only, which might prevent PSCS2 from resolving 'file path_string' descriptor (when path_string is assumed to be plain 'string', not Unicode text).
Try the following code instead -
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
    open ("AV:logo:rot0001.png" as alias)
    end tell
    Or -
set a to "AV:logo:rot0001.png" as alias
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
    open a
    end tell
    Hope this may help,

  • Is there a music notes or music symbols font in Pages?

I could swear I passed by one a while back. I actually need it now and cannot remember the name of the font!

Character information for Western music can be input through the Apple Character Palette. Western music is included in ISO-IEC 10646-Universal Character Set. The proposal was submitted by Perry Roland of the Library of the University of Virginia which is also home to the Music Encoding Initiative (MEI).
There are some glyphs for Western music in the Apple Symbol font. Setting sheet music may be another matter. In part a richer font would be needed, and in part a richer positioning system than a plain typographic one would be needed. Perhaps if you want more than a symbol or two inserted in a line of type, the Music Encoding Initiative may provide a start?

  • Apple Symbos font: incorrect glyph for SQUARE CUP (Unicode 2294)

The only font on my system containing the Unicode point 2294 which is named SQUARE CUP (latex: \sqcup) is in Apple Symbols. The glyph for this Unicode point is the same as for 2293 called SQUARE CAP (latex: \sqcap) and is thus incorrect, i.e. it's upside down. It would be nice if that could be fixed.

These forums are for user to user help. To tell Apple you would like something fixed, use the feedback channel:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
But the problem with 2293/2294 was fixed in 10.4 in any case. So you might want to upgrade or try to get a copy of the font from the newer version.

What Apple store told you they wanted $249.00 to tell what is wrong?
If this is a 13" Macbook Pro then that is the cost of the Extended Applecare warranty. As you are outside the 90 days of Free Phone Support then what Apple told you is that to get Phone Support you would either need to pay $45 per phone call or pay $249.00 for the Applecare extended warranty which comes with 3 years Free Phone Support from date of purchase.
Or you can take it to a Apple Genius Bar and have them look at it for Free.
Every Mac comes with 1 year warranty and includes only 90 days of phone support. You can buy the extended Applecare warranty anytime within the first year of ownership, IE until the 1 year warranty runs out.
I suggest you have your computer looked at by either an Apple Authorized Repair Center or Genius Bar and then before the 1 year warranty runs out buying the extended warranty

  • A particular Apple Symbols glyph won't print correctly

I'm using ID CS under OSX 10.4.11. When I use a glyph from Apple Symbols (Unicode 21AA, a right-pointing arrow), it shows up okay in InDesign and also when I export to PDF. But when I print to a black and white laser (HP 5200L and HP 1200) it shows up as a rectangular box.
So I did a test. I tried a heart from Apple Symbols (Unicode 2665), and that did print okay.
In the Print Dialog box I have chosen Graphics > Font > Download Complete, and ticked the box called Download PPD fonts.
Any suggestions why this particular symbol doesn't print correctly?

I have revisited this problem to find out exactly where the problem lies. If anyone is interested to try to replicate the problem, you can download a small file called "Print Test" from here:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?xz1dzxfxk09
The file is only a few lines of text with the relevant symbols. There are three symbols: a heart, an arrow, and a tent.
    1. When I print with InDesign CS, the arrow and tent come out as vertical rectangles.
    2. When I export as PDF and print, everything is OK.
    3. When I copy the InDesign text, past in TextEdit and print, all is OK.
So it appears that InDesign CS is not printing certain symbols properly. Any suggestions as to why that would be?

  • Whenever i start my macbook pro the screen remains gray with the apple symbol and the circle timer below. The screen stays this way even if i leave it for hours.

When i turn on my macbook a box appears telling me i need to restart my computer (in different languages) and in order to do so i have to press on the off button for a lil while. Even after doing this the same box appears and it never restarts correctly. This box appears every single time. I rarely turn my computer off. I just place it on sleep mode and restarts it only when i get prompted to. I brought it to genius and they couldnt figure out what the problem is so i was told it needed to be shipped to get fixed. I didnt have anything backed up. All i want saved are the pictures because i went to 2 events where i was the assigned photographer and i didnt get to save it to an external memory. Genius said that when shipped i cant give instructions like make sure to save the pictures and if they are unable to, call me if they should go on with the process. I was wishful thinking that to fix the problem they might not even have to touch the pictures memory part. I brought my MBP back home hoping it will miraculously starts and id be able to back it up but now all it does when i turn it on is the screen remains gray with the apple symbol and the circle timer below. The screen stays this way even if i leave it on for hours. Please help me fix this!!! cant i really specify to the technicians at apple  to please make sure not to erase the pictures? Is there no other way to turn on my mac? I only need it to work ones.

ipad does not seem to be charging.  Has been plugged in for about 5 hours and low battery icon remains same...alternates with apple symbol or blank page.  cannot turn ipad on or off

The iPod Touch kept trying to reboot yesterday but would only show the Apple logo screen then shut off - it finally drained the battery overnight I am guessing. Connected to USB the battery charging icon flashes.
Took it back to Best Buy, but they wouldn't touch it or replace it since it's under warranty.
To any potential buyers - beware. My best advice is to look somewhere besides Apple. Every Mac user I know has had to return a Mac, laptop, etc. Really poor quality control, and the retailers agree (Geek Squad told me they have had the same experience with Apple products).

  • My computer is stuck on an apple symbol or a prohibited symbol or a flashing questioned folder for hours

Hi, im not the best with computers but i have a major problem. My macbook pro shut off some how during a car trip and now whenever i try and turn it back on, it gets stuck on an apple symbol or prohibited symbol with a loading ring under neath or even a blinking folder with a question mark on it. I dont think i have mountain lion and my macbook is from 2009 i think but i got it 2012, its the one just before the new one with retina. Ive tried all the commands you hold down while turning on but they seem to do nothing. When holding down command s, it freezes on this black screen with lots of writing on it. Ive got sooooo much important work on it and i dont think its backed up and i dont want to loose years of imported stuff. Someone please help me. I will be going to the genius bar soon. On another note, i may have been downloading some dodgy applications so yeah.

Your hard drive isn't dead as far as I can tell, however because you used the machine in a moving vehicle the platters and the data it holds have been struct by the read heads from the jarring.
Your not supposed to move a hard drive while it's operating. Depsite Apple's sudden motion sensor, it only works on sudden motion enough to trigger it, so it's not perfect.
Take your machine to a local PC/Mac data recovery/software specialist in your area, then take the machine to Apple for a repalcement hard drive if it's determined it's lost.
Apple doesn't do data recovery, they will just replace your boot drive and send you packing and blame you for not making backups.

My stops because of the wrong answer to the secret question, and I want to use it for evil application from Apple Store?

    Hello mr sami,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your security questions.  I found an article with some useful information if you cannot remember the answers to your security questions:
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID passwordsign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you have forgotten your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.

  • My iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I tried a reset and it shut down. But when I turned it back on the problem persists thanks for any help

my iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I have tried a reset and it shut down. When I turned it back on, the problem persists. Thanks for any help.

If the reset doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the device to factory settings using iTunes on a computer. If you can backup the iPad first, do so and then restore to factory settings. If it all works out properly, you can restore the backup after you finish. If you didn't or can't backup, the iPad will be erased when you restore to factory settings.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
IF you can't restore that way, the next step would be to try using recovery mode.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
