Wrong image preview while I am moving adjustment sliders in Aperture

When I move adjustment sliders, a different recently and previosly adjusted image will frequently show in the viewer while the slider is being moved.  Sometimes parts of two or more previous images will appear and sometimes in the wrong orientation. This makes it makes it impossible to see the result of the adjustment until I release the slider which is annoying.  I cannot reliably replicate the problem but it happens often.  It seems random as if the wrong image is in a cache and not refreshing properly.
Details:
MacPro (New) 6-core 32GB RAM, D300 Graphics OS X
Aperture 3.5.1
Moved Library from old machine (2007 MacPro) and rebuilt library
250K images all referenced
Library is big (236GB)
Files are RAW Canon 5dMk3 and tend to be about 30MB
Preferences:
Import: standard previews
Previews: generate automatically and share when quitting (half size medium quality)
library created new previews for all images when I rebuilt it
machine will run processor and memory hard, sometimes around 90%
Might it be a poor choice of preference settings or a corrupt library?  Anyone else ever experience this condition?  I would appreciate any suggestions.

On a conceptual level, it should not be a problem, but a Preview is related to a Version, and a Version is related to one Original/Master.  There can be multiple Versions, all of which must point to a single Original.
You are not adjusting a Preview, but rather a Version.  What you see as you adjust is a new rendering of the Version, and is not the Preview you saw when you decided to adjust, I believe.
There are on the order of 8 or 9 other files related to every Original even if only one Version in the Package that is the Library. Very complex indexing going on at all times.
Please open an image, and before attempting to adjust, click on File, and choose Show in Finder -- is the Finder image the correct one?  And in the correct location?
Now attempt to adjust.  Does the image change?  If so, again us Show in Finder and check.

  • Apple Mail 7 displays wrong image previews

    I have an IP camera that sends a series of snapshots when it detects motion.  These e-mails land in my IMAP account.  All the e-mails have the same subject and the attachments are similar in name, but have the date & time in the file name (and therefore are unique).
    When I display a message with attached images, Mail shows the images from a different (earlier) message.  However, if I right-click one of the incorrect images and select "Open Attachment," Preview opens the correct image.
    It appears that Mail.app is getting the previews mixed up.
    Has anyone else seen this behavior?

    I wonder if this is the same problem that I encounter:
    I receive faxes in my inbox as tiff files and before Mavericks I could view them properly in-line .. but now only the first one I go to displays correctly .. all other received faxes show this same image.
    If I "open" the attachment it is properly displayed .. but in-line it is always the same image that displays .. the first one that I go to when opening Mail.
    As far as I can see it is only tiffs sent by my fax-to-email service that show up improperly .. other in-line attachments such as PDF's seem unaffected and display correctly.
    I thought that it was related to the coverflow issue that was fixed by the 10.9.1 update .. but no such luck.

  • Finder Cover Flow image preview size is small, cannot be adjusted and showing empty blank previews in Mavericks

    When using Cover Flow the image preview in the main window (not the thumbnail list at the bottom) images appear but only use about 1/2 of the window space available.  It is also showing black/blank preview images as I scroll through the files even though they are cached.
    I enlarge the Finder to fill my 27 inch display, slide the size adjustment handle (three lines under the file name preview) all the way down as far as I can.  The preview only enlarges to a certain point leaving the upper half of the window unused.  I wish to enlarge the cover flow preview images to use this window space even if it affects the overlapping or number of cover flow images avaialble in the window.    I am assuming this is becasue of the nature of cover flow showing the two previous and two following images to the left and right of the previewed image.  As I scroll left and right occsionally one of the upcoming images will appear as and empty preview as well.  It's all goofed up.
    Hoping for any suggestions.
    I have seen articles about using terminal to adjust "flow height" but never anything substainial that seemend like an informed solution.

    I also would like to know if there is an answer to this.  My landscape photos always display with a third of the cover flow window as blank empty space (matching your screenshot).  This seems like such a waste.  Is there any way to change the "padding" between the top of the finder bar and the cover flow preview?

  • CS4 - Dual Monitor Setup - Files open on wrong screen + Preview Adjustment layers

    I have various workstations running Mac OS 10.5.8 three run PS CS3, and one runs CS4
    In CS4 files always open on the monitor I have allocated for my palattes.  Before CS4, Photoshop would open files on the monitor that my last filed was opened on.  This is highly annoying!!! How can I fix it so that it at least always opens on the same monitor.
    (My menu bar is on the monitor I've designated for my palettes menu and not the monitor I do all my color work on.)
    Also, any hopes that we will be able to have a preview button for adjustment layers again?  This is highly annoying, and if I'm able to do so when adjusting directly onto a layer, why don't I at least have the option to have a preview button when having an adjustment layer????

    Well if you menu bar is on your "second" monitor, it's generally considered now the "first" monitor, and hence most files will open on that screen by default. But sometimes you can make a file open on the other monitor if you have your mouse cursor in the other monitor. So put  your cursor on the desired screen, press command-O and the open dialog should show there, and the image should open there too. Also works if you double click a file on the desktop of the 2nd monitor. (Usually, these are the window opening dynamics as best I can figure).

    Aperture 3, clean install, running on an upgraded Aperture 2 library. Whenever I make a change to a photo, Aperture displays the previous photo on the screen. It correctly edits the photo I have selected, it just displays the wrong image while doing so. Anyone else have this issue?

  • LR4.3 w/ NIK filters - Image previews keep reloading Constantly until Catalog Optimization

    Just bought the NIK filters on Googles big sale - problem is everytime I add a NIK filter - so far only tried Color Efex Pro - via the External Editor in LR4.3, Save, and then go back into LR4.3 the Image Preview keeps reloading while I try to make further adjustments on the image. Impossible to work with as when I use Adjust brush the image disappears for a second as I move the brush around to add my mask.
    Interestingly, if I Exit LR4 and relaunch the catalog that same photo with the NIK filter has no problem anymore. The catalog is set to "optimize" everytime I close LR. So why when NIK filters are added can the catalog not work well with them until the optimization process?  Do I have a setting wrong in preferences that effects this?
    I called NIK (Google) twice. They are useless. A so-called LR NIK expert named "Jessica" is not the expert she presents. She only knows how to have you re-install the software LOL. Then transfers you to oblivion of Google MUSAK. I don't think that NIK LR experts exist there or they are Product Managers who are not on support. Hoping some LR guru might know what is happening with my previews when those filters are applied.
    Win 7 64 bit environment  16 GB RAM (but same thing happens on my Mac Laptop)

    Thanks Rob. I opened a different LR4 catalog on the PC that only has two photos in it and the problem didnotoccur. So it does seem to be an issue with catalogs that have a lot of raw Canon 5D Mark III images. The image "flickering/reloading" also occurs on the Mac Laptop running a different catalog but that one also has a ton of canon raw images. The PC catalog (the one with the problem) also resides on an EHD so I'm not sure if that is a factor, or not - the other one with only 2 photos total  is on my hard drive.
    I guess I could try to move the entire catalog to my HD (and raw images) and test again. If still a problem then it is either the size of the catalog or some setting in that catalog. Does NIK SW have a max size threshold recommended? I realize it converts the raw to an RGB format when it opens the image - the last image started as 25MB raw and ended up at 160MB after I added a few of your filters stacked and then did some touch ups in LR. Do your recommend any compression? I can set that as a preference for Color Efex in the External Editor settings?

  • Wrong images appearing in project window / timeline

    I'm doing a SIMPLE slideshow project for a frient. I've got a file folder of images that I imported into CS5. In the timeline the correct images are not appearing when placed from the timeline. Even in the Project folder most of the images are not what they are in explorer. Most, when opened in the Source Monitor are the correct image, even though the wrong image is appearing on the timeline, but even there many are not correct. What is happening is that the image of about 15 of the 105 imported images are appearing in the place of all of the other images. It's like something is cached, and the appropriate linkages aren't being made.
    What's even more frustrating is that the ONLY effect applied to all of the impages is Scale to Frame. There are no transistion. Nothing.
    What simple solution is there for images not importing into CS5 correctly?
    ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for that suggestion.  It DOES work!  However, it is time consuming since I'm working with over 1,000 images.  Instead, I was able to discover the following solution:
    The culprit was the magic checkbox under Edit -> Preferences -> Media for "Write XMP ID to Files on Import."  This setting writes a GUID to all media imported into Premiere for use with all Adobe apps.  I actually found the reference to it in an After Effects forum.  I didn't fully understand exactly why this is useful when I'm only working with still images.  My guess is that somehow these GUIDs became crossed over.
    I disabled this checkbox, deleted all references to the affected media, and deleted all cache files, including all files under C:\Users\Username\AppData\Adobe\Common\Media Cache.  I then reimported the originals of my source files from my network attached storage (SO thankful that I moved them offline without touching them).  Viola!  Everything works.
    It was critical that I made copies of all of my data to my NAS.  Adobe actually writes this GUID for the XMP ID to the file itself, which changes the modification date of the actual file.  So, I guess the error will follow the file wherever it goes (in an Adobe application) unless it's resaved in PhotoShop to correct the error.  Luckily, the files on my NAS were untouched by Adobe, since I made copies to work with locally.  Only the local files were affected.  Once I disabled the checkbox, then Adobe no longer attempts to modify files on import and leaves them intact.

  • What's wrong with this while loop?

    Hi, folks. for the code fragment blow, resultSetArray holds two objects of type ResultSet. From those println statement, i can see the whole while loop(the most outter one) process goes alrite the first time right from begining to the end. However, when variable j increases from 0 to 1, the code stops executing at the the line while(rs.next). I just couldnt figure out what causes the problem while i've been fighting with it for several hours. Could someone plz throw me some lights? With your help, i could possibly go to bed before sun rises...
            while(j<resultSetArray.length)
              //for(int j=0; j<resultSetArray.length; j++)
    System.out.println("show me j is called twice " + j);
                   ResultSet rs = resultSetArray[j];
    System.out.println("the converting rs object is called twice and it is not null " + rs);
                  int numWantedColumns = wantedColumnNames.size();
                  //if it's about go or single trip
                  if(j==0 && rs != null)
                      go = new Element("Go");
                       //go.setText("go");
                       //result.addContent(go);
                  //if it's about return trip
                  else if(j==1 && rs != null)
                      back = new Element("Back");
                       //back.setText("back");
                       //result.addContent(back);
                  if(rs!= null)
    System.out.println("this hell is called twice coz it's not null");
                   while(rs.next())
    System.out.println("what about here?");
                        Element flightInfo = new Element("FlightInfo");
         System.out.println("while rs.next() is called");
                        for (int i = 0; i < numWantedColumns; i++)
                           String columnName   = (String)wantedColumnNames.get(i);
         System.out.println("column name is " + columnName);
                           String value = rs.getString(columnName);
          System.out.println("column value is " + value);
                           flightInfo.addContent(new Element(columnName).setText(value));
                        if(j==0)
                           go.addContent(flightInfo);
                        else if(j==1)
                             back.addContent(flightInfo);
                   else if(rs == null)
                        break;
                   j++;
             }

    i've got the problem sort out, eventually. there was actually nothing wrong with the while loop. it was caused by a typo in databse, instead of having Brisbane, i typed Bisbane. The single letter r cost me more than 6 hours to figure it out. it was such a painful feeling while i realized i made a such stupid mistake.
    by the way, as jnw777 mentioned, output rs.next() info instead of the test line. i did try it, however i didnt realize even System.out.println(rs.next()) would cause the cursor move down one row from its current position. so, plus the original while(rs.next()) statement, it was moving the cursor two rows down at a time! And i just couldnt think of this caused me the fact i was only getting the even number row of the ResultSet while i was sniffing the bug from a class with 700+ lines of code. I was so excited and just couldnt stop yelling at the moment i got over it! That was a damn execiting moment...
    now, i am wondering if anyone in this wonderland would like to share his/her stories.

  • Bridge CS4 image Previews are too small

    In Bridge CS4 I cannot get the preview images to display anything larger than a large thumbnail view, see image below.  I have tried all of the Preferences in Edit menu (e.g. Thumbnail: do not process files larger than set to 10,000 MB, cache options are keep 100% previews in cache checked/automatically export cache to folders when possible checked/cache size slider is set to 50%, software render has been checked/unchecked/generate monitor size previews checked).  None of these options change anything for the size of the image preview.  I have a DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD4890 XOC 1GB, so my video card is not the issue.  I am running Windows 7 Ult x64 on ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with 16GB RAM and over 2 TB of HDD space. So my system should not be an issue either.  These are Sample artwork images that were installed with Illustrator cs4.  How do i increase the size of these images?
    Also, these images are showing everything in the ai image, not the individual images in each ai file.  How do i get it to show the individual images in each AI file like they were separate images, like Illustrator?

    Actually, you just solved both of my problems with your question.  I never thought about how the images were created/saved.
    It turns out that for some reason when i re-save the images as version CS4 of course and all options selected in dialog box now the images act correctly and resize accordingly when the separator is moved and will get quite large as they should.
    I also had to use my mouse and select each artboard/image inside the file then re-saved with same settings as above to get multiple images to show up with the buttons at bottom of image in preview mode.  Now all is good.
    These are the default installed sample artwork images.  Not sure why they were like this, may have been some kind of format/process error. Thanks a lot Curt Y.

  • Bug: InDesign exports completely wrong images

    Hey,
    when I export my EPUB, InDesign inserts wrong images into the HTML.
    I have a multi-artboard Illustrator file that is placed in the document. Every chapter has an image in front of it, every image is an artboard in the .ai.
    When I export to EPUB, some artboards are correctly inserted, while one repeats multiple times in a few chapters completely randomly. It has appear only once, but InDesign inserts it many times. What is happening there?
    Best regards
    Andre

    Hi,
    Are you using Articles Panel for reading order? If yes, then I think same image must be present multiple times in your article though in InDesign document it must be appearing only once. If you are not using articles panel, let me know. Will try to figure out why this problem is happening.
    Regards,

  • How to view preview while rendering?

    Hey everyone,
    Newbie to  PSE 8. How do I see a preview while Elements is rendering video? I'm  used to other programs like Roxio Video Wave and Cyberlink Powerdirector  showing the movie as it's being rendered.
    Is there a way to turn this on in  Elements? If so, how? I didn't see anything in the online help.
    Thanks!

    This part of the editing process is normally termed Export. Until later versions of PrE, the process was often accessed from the Export menu under File>Export. In later versions, nearly all of the Export options were moved to the Share Tab, and that is why I now often refer to this operation as Export/Share. As for a preview of this process, Neale is correct that there is no Preview of this operation.
    As Steve points out, the Rendering is another process, and is to provide smooth playback.
    Where it gets a bit confusing, is that Export/Share is also called Transcoding, which is the process of encoding one's Timeline into a chosen format, and is the main part of the Export/Share operation, which also encompasses the final part - packaging that Transcoded file into the appropriate "container," or "wrapper," i.e. what we see as the output "format" of the file. This "wrapper" is the WMV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, etc., but the insides of those can differ wildly. For a bit of background on "wrappers," this ARTICLE might be useful. The concept of a "wrapper," or "container," is important on both ends of the editing - first on Import and then on Export. I hope that this is helpful.
    Also, this ARTICLE might be useful for defining some common editing terms, and most are used in Adobe products, but please note that there can be some differences, like the above-mentioned Export/Share (Share being unique to PrE). It is also worth noting that different NLE (Non Linear Editors) will use slightly different terms, or perhaps apply them differently. There is no one perfect list of terms, that will ALWAYS apply in a universal way. AVID, might call an operation by one name, while Vegas might use another term. FCP may well call it something different. It can get very confusing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't Preview JPEGs in DW Image Preview

    Hello,
    I don't know if this is a bug or not. But when I'm pasting
    images from Photoshop to DW. I get the Image Preview dialog as
    usual. But any image I want to preview as a JPEG is not previewing.
    The preview is blank. I can change the settings and it will insert
    the image. I can change the settings to a GIF or PNG and it
    previews but not a JPEG.
    Any ideas what's going wrong.
    Thanks, Chris

    In CS3 you can copy/paste from PS into DW.

  • Image preview does not appear anymore

    For a while now every time I click on an image in the Google image result page it doesn't open the image previewer anymore, but instead takes me directly to the website where the image is from and there I have to actually search for said image. Sometimes that image is not even visible or available anymore on the website, despite the fact that it showed up during my Google image search.
    How do I get the previewer to work again?

    Hi KarrieDreammind,
    I just tried this with the requested desktop site on an android device, and with a mobile version of Google Image Search. Both give a view of the image with a black background.
    Please clear the private data stored and reload the page. [[How do I clear private data on Firefox for Android?]]

  • LR 5 - Image Sizing Dimensions - wrong image size

    Hi,
    Image Sizing Dimensions produces wrong image sizes upon export for certain images.
    Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.
    Here a link to an image which exports at wrong size (export dimension set to 2048x1536px).
    http://www.bobtronic.com/files/IMG_0289.JPG
    I would appreciate a speedy fix for this problem. Thanks
    cheers,
    Matthias

    The image has a resolution of 3264x4928. Exporting using Dimension resizing of 2048x1536 results in an 2047x1536 image.
    The scaling factor 4928 down to 2048, is 0.4155844155844156...
    Assuming that LR is working to only 3 decimal places here, which indications discussed in another thread would suggest, then there are several ways to achieve that:
    truncate down to 0.415 by discarding the subsequent digits
    "quick-rounding" of the third digit by inspecting the fourth-place digit only, and incrementing the third-place digit when the fourth-place digit is larger than 5, which it is not in this case, resulting in 0.415
    "math-rounding" by inspecting all of the following digit pairs in turn, until you reach a pair that is lower than 50, and then working back again to simplify. This procedure rounds 0.41558 up to 0.4156, then after doing that, rounds 0,4156 up to 0.416
    Speculation: the difference between 0.415 and 0.416, is the difference between a result with 2047, and one with 2048, when executed.
    Most of the time the "quick-round" procedure will work out fine, also truncating will usually be good enough, assuming the above has anything to do with the reality (which it may not). Just occasionally, though, there'll be an error in the final digit, compared with what the theoretically accurate procedure would have given. So if I am right this is not strictly speaking a bug (something failing to execute as it has been designed to do), but the result of a software design choice. "Works as designed", iow .
    It seems that LR, perhaps differently between versions, is working this through by simple calculation (from the front-end), without comparing the back-end outcome against what you have requested. How much this (intermittent) issue actually matters, is a question of judgement, and of particular requirement.
    [ alternative method: I find the Print module, outputting to JPG, is completely reliable when it comes to making a standardised JPG as to the dimensions, as well as offering some different technical and design options, than what you get with Export. For one thing, you get the option of on-the-fly cropping to shape, which you can then adjust interactively where (as here) the image is a different aspect than the Retina display. So if you want it, you can fill the screen instead of getting letterbox, all without having altered your main (Develop) crop for that image. Alternatively, if you don't want the Zoom to Fill option (e.g. with landscape images to be shown in portrait orientation as part of a sequence) you can still make all your images to the same dimension, but controlling the appearance of the borders that are left (which become part of the image) ]
    RP
    ps: AFAICT one would expect simple truncation to produce the appropriate answer half of the time; one would expect simple rounding to just one further digit, to be wrong half of the times when the following digit happened to be 5 - or to put in another way, to be right in 95% of cases; and proper rounding, examinng as many places as it takes, to be right 100% (within precision limits).

  • Aperture 2 Image Preview Corruption?

    I just installed Aperture 2 (upgrade) this weekend, and am noticing that eventually, after several minutes of use, image previews (main window, not thumbnails) will start becoming corrupted. The corruption looks like streaks or bands of altered color data. Once it begins, it will persist for most new images that are clicked on. If I quit Aperture, I've noticed the behavior continue with other images (i.e. my desktop background). A couple times, this has also been followed by a system crash.
    I'm running on a Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 3.5 GB, OS 10.5.2. Vast majority of images are RAW from a Canon 20D. Prior to updating Aperture, my system was fairly stable - the only crashes I would typically see were sleep-related.
    Anyone else see similar behavior? I should note that when I've relaunched Aperture, the image previews are no longer corrupted, so I don't think anything is wrong with my photos themselves...
    Thanks for any insight!
    -Mark

    Well, I think I finally found the answer to my problem... bad RAM. My system has been rather flaky recently - apps crashing randomly, so I started to think there were other issues going on. After reinstalling the OS had no effect, I finally figured I'd test the RAM. Sure enough, one of my pairs of DIMMs was bad (go figure it had to be the big 2GB upgrade I added). After I took them out, my Aperture imports have worked normally. It hasn't been very long, so I can't comment on whether that solved the system stability problems, too, but it's a good bet it has...
