Wrong Motherboard Model Number in BIOS won't let Recovery CD run
Hello all,
Scoured the internet for an answer, and haven't found anything to help, so I thought I'd ask here. Trying to resurrect an old Toshiba Satellite P100 of mine.
I'm trying to reformat it with the Windows XP Professional SP3 recovery disc (ancient OS, I know; don't ask why I'm using it, just am) that came with my laptop.
However, it won't run because the motherboard model number in my BIOS is wrong. I get the following message:
"This Recovery and Applications CD is not configured to work with this machine (ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ)
This CD is for: Satellite P100,Satellite P105
Please use the correct Recovery and Applications CD"
That series of y's with umlauts is what's showing as the mainboard model number in CPU-Z. I know what my actual number is, and that definitely ain't it. I've run this same recovery disc on this very motherboard before and it worked no problem. I don't really know why the model number would have changed since then.
I've tried resetting BIOS and flashing new BIOS as well, and nothing changes the model number to the correct one. Is there any way that I can correct it?
I know that I have a bad RTC battery/CMOS battery. I'm not sure if that could have caused the model number change. All I can tell so far is that it's messing with the BIOS time, but I didn't know if it could have changed the model number. I can't just replace it because apparently the battery is soldered to the motherboard for p100/p105 models, and if I have to buy a new motherboard then I think I'll just give up.
The laptop is obviously out of warranty, so it's not like I can send it to a certified Toshiba repair center or anything. I'd like to use my recovery disk to reinstall XP Pro with all the original drivers and programs since there are a few on there that I'd have to pay for otherwise to reinstall since they didn't come with product keys. If there is any other way to format and reinstall to factory settings without the cd, I'm open to it and would must appreciative.

Unfortunately, Toshiba does not supply the utility that fixes the DMI string for your model. (It would be like this one.) Toshiba expects you to take it to a dealer for resetting.
If you have or obtain a Windows XP installation CD, I can help you with installation.

How to use imessage with your number if it won't let you click on it
When I go to change my receive address to my phone number it's there but it won't let me use it.
The newer titles are fixed and uneditable. But if you look down the title list, the older title options are editable. For example, Horizontal Blur and Boogie Nights that was NOT editable in the past. I was able to edit the font, color and size.

Hi I have tried all the tricks from the support to have iMessage and FaceTime running but it is impossible for me to activate these apps with my phone number. Problem is I have another sim from the same carrier and I am able to do it on that one.
I am desperate for a help!

iMac late 2012 - Bought - Updated 10.8.3
W8 ISO downloaded (tried with 2) > Bootcamp > USB Booteable created
Bootcamp > Install Windows7 (8) > Partition disk (gave W8 75gb), all fine. After it's ready the iMac restarts.
It restarts and remains in a black screen. I have to force power off, restart manually.
Holding 'Alt' I DO GET into the booteable menu:
I see:
[Macintosh HD]
[Windows]
[EFI Boot]
If I select [Windows] I get to that same black screen I initially got before by bootcamp assistant
BUT WHEN I SELECT [Efi] I DO GET THE WINDOWS 8 INSTALLATOR!!
From there, all fine, language selection > Next > Serial Key > Next... BUT WHEN THE PARTITION/DRIVE INSTALLATION WINDOW SHOWS UP
IT WONT LET ME SELECT THE BOOTCAMP PARTITION
"The selected disk has a MBR partition table. On EFI sistems, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks"
"You can't install Windows in this disk. It is possible that the Hardware is not able to boot in this disk. Make sure he dis controller is able in the system BIOS"
I try from there to FORMAT THE DRIVE (it gives you a chance) But still theres NO WAY I CAN GO "NEXT" in the next installation step.
It has been 3 days trying and trying, PLEASE HELP BOOTCAMP GURUS!From my experience last week installing Windows 8 on a 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2010).using 10.8.3 OSX.
I used BootCamp Assistant to partition the OSX drive.
I have a Full Version Windows 8 x64 DVD and inserted that into the Internal DVD of the MBPro on reboot after BootCamp was finished.
I restarted and got nothing but a Black Screen.
I powered off and restarted using the Option Key.
Three Icons appeared MacintoshHD, Windows DVD Icon, and EFI Boot
I thought the DVD might be FU'd so I tried EFI Boot which did nothing.
Before burning another Windows 8 DVD I tried to hook up my LaCie FireWire external DVD with the Win 8 Install DVD inserted.
Again nothing.
So I removed the Win 8 Install DVD from the external La Cie and inserted it back into the Internal MBPro DVD.
Did a Power Off Reboot with the Option Key depressed at the chime.
Again the three icon choices.
This time selected the Windows DVD Icon and got a Black Screen agian.
BUT THIS TIME I JUST PATIENTLY WAITED!
After about 20 minutes the Windows 8 Installation Process started and I got to Install everything to the new BootCamp Partition.
I had to format the BOOTCAMP Partition to NTFS using the advanced option and had to choose NEW installaltion NOT UPGRADE.
Windows 8 installed perfectly and I installed the drivers after installation completed from the Internal DVD from another DVD I had burnt with just the Windows 8 Support Software..
I was surprised that that the MBPro took so long to recognize the Internal Win 8 Installation DVD but it did eventually recognize it and installed flawlessly.
Try the PATIENT approach and let us know if we may have found a clue here.
BTW I used System Recovery Boot Disk Utility to both Repair Hard Drive and Repair Permissions before attempting any of the above and also made a Full Time Machine Backup.
Better Safe than wiping your drive. -
Satellite Pro C660-29W: BIOS won't let me enter the supervisor password
Computer is a satellite pro C660-29W PSC1ME-00U00KEN
I've set a BIOS supervisor password (no user password is set). I know the password.
If I hit F2 it enters the text editor but does not give any opportunity to enter the password, and so whilst I can view everything there is no way to change anything.
Any suggestions?Can this be helpful?

New ITunes won't let me upload runs
Quite simply, downloaded newest version and now when I sync my nano with new runs to upload, the runs never upload. I've tried unchecking the 'auto load to Nike+ website' and recheking and nothing. Any suggestions other than reinstalling the old version?

They sent me a step-by-step guide and I finally uploaded my runs. Here it is. But still I have problems with Facebook (the problems started after updating to the new version of iTune),Facebook do not sync with Nike+ most of the time now.

1) Dock your iPod nano. When iTunes opens go to the Nike + iTunes tab.
2) Un-check the check box to "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" and click Apply.
3) Safely un-dock your iPod nano.
4) Go for a run or short test workout. Around the room is fine. Just enough to register a distance on the iPod nano.
5) Dock your iPod nano, then select the check box to "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" and click Apply at the bottom-right of the screen.
6) iTunes will make the connection to nikeplus.com and send the workout.
Note: At this point, the workout is not attached to your account.
7) In iTunes, the button to "Visit nikeplus.com" should be displayed (you may be presented with a window to either "Visit" or "Don't Visit"). Click on Visit and your default internet browser should open and go to nikeplus.com.
8) Your workout is visible, but it still is not attached to your nikeplus.com account. Log in to nikeplus.com and the workout will attach to your account.
9) Close the browser window. It does not matter if you log out or not.
10) Go back to iTunes and click on the button, "Visit nikeplus.com." Your web browser should open, but you can close it immediately.
11) Go back to iTunes. Your email address should appear below the "Automatically send workout data to nikeplus.com" check box and the options Cancel and Apply will appear. Click Apply to save this setting.
All future workouts will automatically upload to the appropriate nikeplus.com account". -

I grasp that your notebook will not power on. If you check the adapter and the power port on the notebook do you see any lights when connected?
Here is a link to Using and Testing the AC Power Adapter to prove functionality. When connecting the power to the notebook, would you check to see if they may be any bent pins in the connector?
Do you hear the fan or hard drive spin up?
Do you see any flashing or blinking lights or hear any beeps?

Help my iMessage isn't working because my email is only showing as my thing to where people can contact me instead of my number. I'm new to the whole iphone team and I really need help. When registering an iPhone with iMessage and FaceTime, the phone number is registered automatically along with your Apple ID email address.
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

Apple website won't let me manage my a/c
I think there is something wrong with the apple website as it won't let me manage my a/c properley and emails sent to me to reset my password have not reached me. Any one got the same problem? As you can see I remembered my password!
I deleted a non operational email address and then went to access my security info and subsequent sections and the blue buttons were not working and I couldn't access those sections. a notcice kept flshing up telling me to save the changes I had made- which I had already doneI solved the problem by logging out and back in 10 mins later and they were then operational.
More wierdly when I got in under the security questions there was red text on the sreen inviting me to contact what appeared to be part of a google address- I haven't clicked on it as the question arises as to why would a google address be in apple security?!
Anyway - thanks I think the classic solution of close down and restart has solved it. -
X301 post BIOS / Model Number update System Time problems
Dear community,
I recently updated my BIOS using the thinkvantage flash BIOS utility for no reason other than it appeared on the update utility. I also updated the model number, once again for no real reason other than update pleasure. Now, everything works perfectly fine on the system, and I have no problems EXCEPT:
I use New York Times Adobe Air product called "Times Reader". Since the update, when I try to log into the Times Reader I get an error that states "Authentication Error. Check that your system time is set correctly." In the pre-boot set up screen the time seems to be set right, and in the windows utility the time is set correctly. So my questions is,
after a BIOS flash / Model # update, does the system time function need some re-boot / update?
Thanks!Well I still dunno what the problem was. It seemed as if the system would have to be running for a day or two before it would start to speed up, as if it was actually gaining a few milliseconds cumulatively every second...
Anyway, through other testing (OC & such) I flashed to 1.5B5 and it is running pretty good, and seems to have fixed the time problem.
On a side note, 1.5B5 is the first BIOS that actually makes Cool 'N Quiet work (to underclock to 1GHz at idle & dynamically OC when needed).
If anyone has experienced this time issue, please post findings! For now, it's fixed for me, so I'm not going to worry about it -
X-FI FATAL1TY : Wrong model number on my c
I noticed that the Model number on my X-Fi fatalty card's PCB does not correspond to the model numbers published on this site. The X-Fi should have the model number SB0466 but on mine it reads SB0460, which corresponds to the X-Fi platinum or Extreme music edition. The I/O dri've is ok and the packaging is definately the Fatalty edition.
Has anyone else found this with their Fatalty card?</LI>
Does this mean that the wrong card was packaged</LI>
Is their another way to determine that model number by reading a chip identifier (not the drivers) by software or any other way to determine that the card is actually a Fatalty model.</LI>
