Wrong sort order for rapid sequences of images

When I have a sequence of shots taken at high speed, i.e. a number of them have the same timestamp, being taken within the same second, I find that LR displays some of them out of order. For instance, I have a sequence of 5 frames all with timestamp 9/4/07 2:17:32pm and the file names show up in this order - 1740, 1742, 1741, 1743, 1744 (these are the file names assigned by the camera)
The frames show in this order with any of the sort order options selected except, of course, File Name, and in that one instance they display in the correct order.
Is there a way I can specify in LR that I want to sort in Capture Time order then within that in file name order? This would give me the result I want. The reason I don't want to simply use file name order is that with images from different cameras with differing file naming conventions, or with file names I may have applied, that would not give me correct time sequence as shot. I want to see a whole day's images in correct time sequence regardless of file name.
If there is not a way to specify this in LR, should I add this to the Feature Request list?

Capture Time and Import Order do the same thing.
Additional information - I see the same wrong sequence is presented in the import dialog when I try to import the same photos again (they happen to still be on the card). So, I think it is initially caused by the order that the camera lays down the photos in the file structure on the card, or in the way that Windows reads them off the disk. (I have a Canon EOS 30D, SanDisk CF card, using a card reader rather than plugging the camera to the PC.)
If I use the import dialog's renaming process (in my test I chose filename - sequence) and apply a sequence number to the images the sequence number ends up wrong. So LR is importing the photos in the wrong order (may not be LR's fault?)
So, this modifies the definition of the problem and of the feature request. No longer is it simply the sort order displayed in the library; it needs to be addressed at import time as well.
Here is my attempt to redefine the feature request:
- when importing images that are taken in rapid sequence (multiple shots within the same second) LR should allow for sorting the images by camera-derived file name to correct out-of-sequence delivery from the card/camera. This sort order, when selected, should re-arrange the preview thumbnails so the photographer can verify the images will be imported in the correct order.

    I have a number of Photos that are taken on the same second. These show up in what appear to be random order in the organizer. Is there any workaround for this, let´s say by first sorting on timestamp and then by file name (if timestamp is equal).
    This must be a common problem with todays cameras taking a lot of photos in rapid sequence, but just timestaming them with a resolution of one second.

    Thanks for the proposal, and yes, I could fix the problem in a number of ways, for instance by changing the timestamp of the pictures.
    But as I see it, PSE 7 should have a built in feature for handling this issue. Frankly, handling this automatically should be one of the most basic features of the organiser. Any modern digital camera have the possibility to take several shots per second.
    Please Adobe, fix this !

  • Default Sort Order for Library View

    It would be fantastic if there were a user defined preference for a default sort order in Library view. For example, some users may prefer to always view the images by File Name, or Rating, etc, without having to change the sort order for each individual folder they view via Lightroom.

    Thanks for your suggestion Allan, but it doesn't work.
    I'm specifically referring to the defaults that Aperture 3 adopts when you use the "File, Import, Folders as Projects with the projects and albums setting.
    What I'm finding is regardless of the setting in the Library preferences, the default sort order for the project is Date and Manual for the album.
    Yet if I create a project manually the default sort order is as per the Library prefs. Strange.

  • Sort Order for Legend and X Axis

    Does anyone know of a way to keep a specific sort order for both the X Axis and the Legend. Both start with numbers and I can get one or the other to sort correcly on the chart but not both. Biggest problem is not all of the legend items are in the first X Axis item so the colors change on the bar graph depending on the legend items in the first X Axis item.

    If you tie bar colors with values, how you will differentiate the bars for different legends.
    Take an example, there are three columns Employee, Location and salery have following values
    Employee Location Salery
    A London 30000
    B Chicago 40000
    C London 50000
    D Chicago 60000
    if we keep Location as Legend and Employee in X Axis, and sort Legend first then Employee. Set Blue for Chicago and Red for London, First two blue bars for A and C will be displayed and then two red bars for B and D will be displayed. Order in X axis will be A,C,B and D. This is not in sequence but this is the way it will and it should work. If you sort by Employee instead if Location, you will get sequence in X axis, but the same colored bars wont be together.

It has come to me to figure out how to establish the correct sort order for Simplified Chinese and Japanese language Index and Glossary navigators, Could someone explain to me how this is done outside of tools like RoboHelp (which has caused us major headaches yet seems to be the only way the vendor knows how to do JavaHelp). In layman's terms, please.

    Same issue here, and the bug syncs to my iPhone, so when I want to quickly text or e-mail someone, their phone numbers and e-mail addresses appear in the wrong order, Work or Home before iPhone or Mobile. How can we get this big fixed in the next Snow Leopard update?

  • Default column sort order for 11g table

    Could anyone give me some indication on how I would go about setting the default sort order for a table?
    I have a table with a few columns, and dataset returns in a particular order, but my table decides to sort if in any given order until I manually click on the column header and sort it.
    I would like to have it done by default on a particular field.

    As Chris says, the easiest way and best re-use way is to use the order-by clause in your underlying model layer SQL query. For instance in ADF BC this would be in a View Object's query.
    However as you haven't dictated your model layer technology, there is another way in JDev 11g. In your web page that contains the ADF Faces RC table, select the binding tab at the bottom of the page, then double click on the iterator in the binding page, and in the Edit Iterator Binding dialog, select the Sort Criteria tab. This allows you to override the sort order on the iterator's columns.

    It seems that if I specify the sort order for Simplified Chinese (pinyin) on the reference page,
    index entries that start with "i" and "v" are not shown under their corresponding group titles.
    (I assume that this may be due to the fact that pinyin words never start with these letters.)
    If I have an entry that starts with an English word like "IP," it appears under the "J" group.
    I want the entry to appear under the "I" group. How can I do this?

    All you do is hold down on any of the icons for a few seconds and they will start wiggling. You can then move them to your hearts content, either on the same page or to different pages. Just press the HOME button to return to normal mode.

  • The Sort order for a playlist created on my MB Pro is wrong on my iPad. Can I fix this?

    When I create a playlist on my MB Pro I cannot guarantee that the playlist will be in the same sort order on my iPad. It is on my MB Air, but not on my iPad. Does anyone know why? How can I correct this?
    This is important with classical music where the order of the tracks may be critical.

    Try deselecting Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync which should remove all music from your iPhone. Follow this by reselecting Sync Music and your selections below followed by another sync to re-transfer the music.

    I have synched photos from Aperture to the Apple TV, but the sort order when shown on Apple TV is not the same as the sort order in Aperture. Does anyone have an idea about which metadata field in Aperture is being used by Apple TV to determine the sort?

    Hi this is my first append to Apple support so things may go pear shaped...
    I have the same problem as you describe and have discovered that the order appears to be consistent with the file NAME order (as seen in Finder) This is not the camera file name but the version name I gave it when I imported the file into Aperture. I then exported the album to the desktop and streamed it to Appletv. (iTunes #count/album is sometimes wrong)
    Given a file list of say 40 files, the new (incorrect Appletv re-sorted) order follows a pattern based on the FIRST numeric decimal digit in the filename!
    Example - I have a folder containing 40 consecutive images - the new order these images will be displayed by Appletv will be as follows
    1 10[...]19 2 20[...]29 3 31[...]39 4 40 5 6 7 8 9
    I've proved this by photographing 40 separate image files each one showing a number in the range of 1 to 40 as an individual image. These are in order by number (as appears in the image) & file number assigned by the camera, and also therefore by file date time. I imported them into Aperture and assigned them the Version name of 'Number' + sequence.
    So, when I view image file #1 named 'Number 1 of 40' I see the number '1' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:33:16 BDT. Similarly when I view image file #40 named 'Number 40 of 40' I see the number '40' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:37:34 BDT.
    I CAN CHANGE the order Appletv displays these by renaming them - eg change file name 'Number 10 of 40' to 'Number 41 of 40' makes it appear at the end. The sequence now becomes 1 11-19 etc 40 41. Nothing else appears to have changed.
    I've since found that a separate burn of different files(29) using Toast followed the same pattern.
    Since starting this append iTunes has the added the album of 40 numbers to its list and I have just viewed them on Atv slideshow. Bizarrely the order is different again - 3,5,2,4,1,10,13,15,6,11,14,7,8,12,9,32,17,33,26,22,23,28,18,29,20,24,35,16,21,3 1,19,25,30,34,27,37,38,40,39,36. Random is off. Please can we have a fix for this or at least a workaround.

  • What's the sort order for podcasts on the shuffle?

    Hi all... Can someone tell me how the iPod Shuffle orders podcasts? I've seen MANY posts saying there's no way to manually sort podcasts on the shuffle (which is crazy IMO), but at least if I know how it's ordering the podcasts that'll help me identify which one is next.
    I added 15 podcasts to the shuffle, and sorting by every category I can find none that matches the order the shuffle places the podcasts in.
    So first question -- what order are the podcasts stored in?
    And second question -- Why the heck did Apple do this? Why can't podcasts just be treated like standard MP3 songs?
    And finally if there's no answer to either of these, is there anyway to get ipodderx to sync to the ipod shuffle? I love itunes, but if it's going to hender my hardware I'll switch to something else.

    I'm wondering if something's wrong with my podcast, because that's not what happens on mine. For example I have my podcasts in this order:
    NPR Technology
    Haunted New Jersey
    Autumn in New England
    Hometown Tales Podcast
    And even after selecting File then Update iPod and even right-clicking on ipod and selecting Copy to Play Order the order of the podcasts are :
    Haunted New Jersey
    Hometown Tales Podcast
    NPR Technology
    Hometown Tale Podcast
    Nothing I've done sorts the podcasts as they should be sort. Also i set it to not show the ipod unless it's connected, and when I sort the podcasts as I want, Update ipod, and plug ipod, plugging it back in shows the wacky sort order they're stored on the ipod. I can rearrange again, update again, eject and plug back in, and the crazy sort order (not mine) is back.
    Is there something I'm missing????
