WRT160N Requires Regular Reboots

So I have a WRT160N firmware v3.0 wired connection to my PC, and at least once a day my connection speed drops from 2mbs down to almost dial up speeds at 60kps.   Just unplugging the router then plugging it back in seems to fix it every time.   I've contacted my service provider and they say there's no issue on their end, and since I don't get this problem when I plug the modem directly to the PC I agree with them.    I've done a factory reset and that didn't help.  I've gone through the FAQ and can't find anything useful in there.    Has anyone experienced this before, or know of a possible solution?

Its not a double Nat issue.    I have an Motorola SB5120 Cable Modem from Time Warner Cable.
The slowdown is on both the wired and wireless connections.   I've done the factory reset/reboot thing in the past and it didn't fix the issue.
Make sure to update the firmware to the latest version. You can download it here http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT160N. Reset and reconfigure.

  • Why does Firefox require a reboot after uninstallation?

Basically, my problem was already asked here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/916857
But that thread is marked as "solved", when in fact this problem is nowhere near being solved, so I am asking it again in a new, "unsolved" thread.
In former times Firefox never needed a reboot, and it does not make any sense because no Firefox-related file should be in use at the time of uninstallation. (Forget about updating in my case; I am doing a clean uninstall, and Firefox insists in rebooting anyway.)
Windows reboots due to software uninstallations are generally only required in the following cases:
    * If files that belong to Windows are being modified. I hope Firefox does no such thing...
    * Part of the software being uninstalled is still running, so that its files are in use. However, I completely closed Firefox and even used the task manager to make sure no firefox-related processes were running.
Some applications (i.e. Adobe Reader) install fancy "Speed Launchers" that are loaded at boot time and stay resident in memory. Unless these processes are manually killed before uninstallation, they may also be the reason why a reboot is necessary. However, Firefox should not do such a thing.
To summarize it, the question is: '''Which part of Firefox is running during uninstallation so that removal of the corresponding files is required?
Generally, I consider this a very bad software behavior, one that I would expect from some commercial software producer who wants to install his speedlaunch or logging stuff on my computer, but not from a free project like this one.
Firefox Portable does not do this, easily proving that technically it is not necessary. Earlier versions of Firefox also refrained from doing such a thing.
A piece of software requesting a reboot without good reason is what I consider a bug.

Aw, c'mon. Writing to the Windows registry never requires a reboot. This is ridiculous.
And Firefox did not need that bad behavior up to version 8 either. Why now?
This is not a Windows issue. You cannot alter files in Linux either if they are currently locked. The thing is that there is no sensible reason for any Firefox-related files to be locked at uninstallation time, which is why there should be no problem removing them.
I do not mean to rant, even though I am disappointed by this new behavior and would like to have it changed, but the least thing I really would like to know is exactly what is causing this. Why have the new versions of Firefox been programmed to require a reboot? Exactly which files need to be removed or changed that cannot be removed/changed during regular uninstallation, so that their removal/change needs to be scheduled for the next restart of Windows?

  • My new at Christmas iPad air requires a reboot at least once a day sometimes more. Is this normal?

My new iPad air requires a reboot at least once a day, sometimes more . Is this normal?

That type of error could indicate a WiFi network problem. That type of error can usually be gotten around by simply turning off/on WiFi in the Control Panel or Settings. There may or may not be any problem with your iPad Air. It won't hurt to have it checked out. You could also test your iPad on some other WiFi networks to see if it has any problems there. If it doesn't you might want to take a closer look at your network.

  • Having issues with patches that require multiple reboots in a task sequence?

Are you guys having issues doing a build and capture or deployment, while including the recent patches ?
It looks like another patch is requiring multiple reboots which breaks the task sequence...
Long story short... the last time I created a .Wim file was in June (with ZTIWindowsUpdate) - it included all the patches as of June 2014. This image has been deployed since then with no problem. All the other monthly patches (07/08/09/10/11/12/01) can be
installed successfully through the deployment task sequence with no problem.
Then last week, I decided to create a new .Wim file to include all the patches as of January 2015. In my build and capture step, it exits because one of the updates requires multiple reboot. I checked on the following website and it has not been updated
    since October 22nd : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2894518
Do any of you experiences issues with a WSUS that requires multiple reboot recently ?
    Thanks!

As mentioned, the MDT offline updates task will do it. Add it to your build and capture and it will do the work for you using the updates in an update package that you've previously created. Alternatively, use a stand-alone instance of MDT to create your
image (using a build and capture TS of course) -- this can then use a stand-alone instance of WSUS to install the updates into your image which you then import into ConfigMgr.

  • Updates that require multiple reboots - any additions to KB2894518?

    Hi there,
I have more than one cusotmer that deploy Software Updates as part of their BaC and OSD task sequences in SCCM. In these cases I make sure to exclude the updates listed in
KB2894518. In addition I am excluding KB2871690 and KS2920189 as mentioned in
this post by Nash Pherson over at myITforum.
Now I am suspecting that there are more updates requiring double reboots as the customers TS seems to be breaking after the installation of updates by way of a double reboot.
Do you know of any more updates that causes the TS to break?
    Thanks,
    Terje

Yes, but I am not confident that any of the Aug. 12th updates is the culprit.
Make sure you have excluded all the updates listed in the posts I like to above. Watch the screen while the Task Sequence reboots your client after the SUP stage. When the client is booting, you will see "configuring updates" and then a "spontaneous" boot
    outside of SCCMs control.
We are working on some systematic testing to narrows down which update(s) it might be, but that takes a fair amount of time. Hope to get to the bottom of it this week.

  • Macbook Pro Retina freezes requiring manual reboot

    Hello,
Starting a few days ago my notebook experiences severe freezes that
    require manual reboot.
The system is a Macbook Pro Retina from 2013, with MacOSX 10.8.5.
I use it for both work (software devel, MSOffice, Latex, Skype) and
    leisure (music, movies, browsing).
Apple software updates and most add-on software are up-to-date (with
    the notable exception of MSOffice).
Starting a few days ago, my computer started freezing. By freeze I mean
that the user interface completely blocks. I can still move the mouse
pointer (smoothly), but clicking has no effects. The only way I found to exit
such freezes is through a shut down using the button.
Freezes seem to be associated with video. They always happen when I
try to use both Skype and a browser. They also happen sometimes when
watching video on video streaming sites different from YouTube.
Funny enough, when Skype freezes, the user interface and the video
blocks, but the sound still works in both directions.
It does not look like a hardware problem.
At first the symptoms reminded me of viruses (I do have a certain age,
so I remember) but now I'm less sure. It could be a software
incompatibility (I seem to remember that I have accepted an Apple software
update just a few days ago).
I would appreciate any help in understanding the problem and in solving
    it.
    Yours,
    Dumitru

    Hello Link,
Thanks for your help. Here is the information you asked me to find.
    Some additional information:
    - Of the 4 reboots I can find in the log (I had more, they must have been overwritten),
3 show the same pattern as the one I pasted here. It ends with problems in
      OpenGL.
    - Both crashed I have on record are on VDCAssistant.
    - I don't find shutdownstalls.
    Regards,
    Dumitru

  • Unable to update any software that requires a reboot.

When my old mbp broke down I migrated all my files using Time Machine. At first I had some issues with multiple accounts but since that was resolved everything has been running smoothly. Recently though, I discovered that when I tried to update Safari to 5.1.2, it appeared as if the installation went all right but when the system had rebooted the application was still on my software update list. On that list were also several firmware updates as well as minor updates for applications like iTunes. In fact, I could see that no automatic updates had gone through as planned since I bought my new computer last spring. The list was empty.
I tried to install all updates that didn't require a rebooting of the mbp and this went very well. However, when I tried to install the updates for firmware and Safari, my computer didn't even ask me for my password but skipped immediately to rebooting. When it fired up again, none of the updates had been installed but were still on the list for available updates.
Another thing that I've discovered while googling for a solution to my problem is that my disk permissions are corrupted in some way. I've tried to use Disk Utility to repair my disk permissions and it changes the permissions of about a dozen of files. Immediately after having been repaired though, if I run another verification scan, these same files will show up again as having the incorrect permissions.
Are these problems related? Does anyone know how to fix either of them? I'm thankful for any help at all.
edit: It might be helpful to know that I'm on a 13" mbp (early 2011) running OS X v. 10.6.8

Nothing to worry about. And no need to keep repairing Permissions. Once is enough.

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.
    Ciao.

  • SCCM 2012 - Determine if software update requires a reboot

Using the Configuration Manager console is there a way to determine if a software update requires a reboot?

you can create a compliance item like this -
http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/dealing-with-reboot-pending-clients-in-configuration-manager-2012/ It will give you information if a reboot is requested by ConfigMgr. For all reboots, you should also look at registry.

  • After installing or uninstalling a program or after installing a Windows update requiring a reboot, I lose Firefox and have to reboot a second time.

Am running VistaSP2 on a Dell E520 with a Kaspersky based AV program. Ever since I installed the latest version of Firefox I find that when I install or uninstall a new app (e.g. Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Skype, Windows Messenger, etc.) or when I install an update from any source that requires a reboot, I find that Firefox will not start. Even the UAC confirmation window will not open. I have to perform a second reboot to be able to open Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it and it does not help.

Which is it, hanging or crashing, or both?

  • Safari and Firefox are FREEZING the entire OS requiring hard reboot.

    Hello new user here.
I have been working on a client computer:
Dual 2.7 G5 Tower with 8GB Ram (early 2005), only mouse and keyboard plugged into USB port.
Installed on new HD with clean install from Leopard 10.5.6 Install Disk. Updated to OS X 10.5.8, all apple updates and firmware updates applied.
ASD for the system PASSED all tests and on multiple loops.
    MEMTEST Passed, no errors
Temperature monitor within safe ranges under 70C for everything.
Temperature Calibration of the chips completed through ASD
No dust in the case, no leaks detected, no evidence of leaks either.
Through diagnostics and testing original components by using replacing with known good components show that the hardware is SOLID. All the tower components passed the Apple Diagnostics and tested as WORKING in other towers.
    Permissions Fix = completed
Deleted the browser preferences, deleted caches, etc etc.
The system is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN
So when I got to run Safari, it crashes within 1 minute and takes out the entire system with it. Firefox will do the same but in 5 minutes or so. Opera browser WORKS. (But that doesn't solve the problem of why Safari and Firefox are hosing the system.
I also tried this on wired lan, and a wireless lan, and a USB data modem (AT&T), and changed MTU, etc etc etc. The network is SOLID.
I am a 15 year experienced desktop IT tech working on PCs and MACs and I am completely stumped.
I can duplicate it each and every time. Browsing on google, cnn, yahoo, will crash the system.
Here is something odd too. I ran folding at home for > 48 hours on this machine and came back over the weekend and it was FINE. The second I started up a Safari, it crashed that a reboot was required to recover.
    Any ideas? Any help appreciated.

Hi stantony1, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Wow, great work so far!
Temperature monitor within safe ranges under 70C for everything.
Hopefully way under, like under 60°C.?
    MEMTEST Passed, no errors
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.
    Memtest OS X...
    http://www.memtestosx.org/joomla/index.php
Rember is a freeware GUI for the memtest ...
    http://tech.kateva.org/2005/10/rember-freeware-memory-test-utility.html
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Does ȃfari crash it in Safe Mode???
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below.

  • IE 11 and IE 11 patch deployments requires a reboot

    Hi Guys,
I need to perform the below tasks.
    1. Uninstall a plugin (no reboot required)
    2. Install IE 11 (reboot required)
    3. Install IE 11 patch (reboot required)
I have 3 different package created
Do i need to create a task sequence to install these application as a single deployment or can this be done using Application model.
How reboots are handled in mid of deployments.
    Please suggest.

    I created a task sequence, to install 3 packages and a reboot between 2nd & 3rd package.
I deployed the task sequence to a machine, which makes an entry in software center with status (downloading 0%)
There i no change this status after hours too.
Please help me where am going wrong.
    Regards,
What does the smsts.log file say on the client trying to run the TS?
    ContentTransferManager.log might be useful too.

  • WET54G locking up - requires reset / reboot

    Hello all
We use (10) WET54Gs at separate locations to provide network connectivity to our copiers.  All of the units are V2 with the latest updates.  Each WET54G will lock up after random period of time, usually a few weeks, and then require a reset/reboot to reestablish  communication.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Have any suggestions on a fix?
I would think this is a hardware of firmware problem since they have a perfect track record of 10 out of 10 units repeatedly locking up.
    Thanks

Well i dont think all the 10 units of WET54G will have the same problem. May be you must try to check the settings of your wireless router, if required try to upgrade the firmware of your Router.

    Richard

Hello, Richard, and welcome to the Apple Boards,
While I can't give you a reason the panic is related to accessing an external Maxtor drive via firewire:
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0003FFE8): zalloc: "kalloc.256" (1155680 elements) *retry fail 3*
    com.Maxtor.driver.PowSecDriver(4.0.0) @0x739000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireSBP2 (1.7.5)@0x660000
Maybe someone can give you a more exact interpretation but the Xserve clearly had access problems related to the Maxtor fail after trying 3 times and couldn't recover from the error.
If it reoccurs I would definitely start to look sideways at the Maxtor drive(s) in terms of how they're doing. As I recall Firewire drives don't report SMART status so I'm not sure how you would poll their health, but if there is a way I'd do that regularly. You can always do the usual and make sure you have the latest drivers and search for any reports of Maxtor drives and that kind of error, but if it just started then I would guess it's drive specific.
A dying firewire drive - especially if it's shared over AFP - can cause real havoc on a system. I know because I've lived through it.
    Good luck,
    =Tod
