WRT54G Not working

I have a WRT54G router that was working fine until a couple of days ago when it quit on me. The power light is not on, but the other LED's are on. I cannot connect to the router, so what should I do to fix this?

hold the reset button on the router for 60 seconds .. after 60 seconds , release the reset button and disconnect the power cable from the router for a minute..see whether this helps you..

    Please help!
I purchased the Linksys WRT54G a few months ago, set up my home network (laptop with wireless running XP, desktop hard wired to router running 2000, and desktop wireless running XP) everything worked great!
I got the internet installed.  We ( the installer and I ) got the internet to work on my laptop, and he left, said the rest is up to me!  I did not think it would be to bad, but I am stuck!!
My laptop no longer connects to the network! - I can ping the WRT54G but can not see any thing else.  I can connect to the internet only if I plug directly into my laptop, if I go into the Linksys it will not work from any computer!  My other two computers still see the network and can talk to one another but not to the laptop.  I can no longer print from the laptop (which I could do before) the printer is off of the 2000 destop, used to work great!
I have tried some things that I seen here on the forms, "cloned the Mac address" "updated the firmware" and "power cycled" until I am blue in the face, but to no avail!
Additional info - There is a Linksys 8 port 10/100 Switch placed after the Satellite modem, to connect some other hard wired pc's in the house.
It goes Satellite modem - Switch - (some computers attached here) - Router - (rest of the PC's attach here).
I hope you can understand my ramblings!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Satellite modem: LAN side set to 192.168.1.1 (assumed)
      dhcp enabled: range: 192.168.1.20-200
Switch: if this is an intelligent switch set it to 192.168.1.2
      dhcp: disabled
    Router: set to 192.168.1.3
      dhcp: disabled
If the satellite modem using a different base setting (ie. 192.168.222.1) you must adjust all other values(222) to match.

  • WRT54GS Not Working.

Ok,so i have a Cable modem & my wireless router, everything was fine & then a fuse blew & turned both my modem & the router off,i fixed the fuse. My modem was messed up abit,i called support & fixed it,then when i tried to connect my router to the modem & get online through it wired it would not work nor will wireless, the signals show up but no net connection. I called Linksys, they told me a few things to do,none worked, plus the 2 year warranty is up,so i could not really get any help. The Router itself seems fine, solid power light,& all the other lights work & blink, showing some sort of activity. The only way i can get online is direct through my modem, but that is no good,i have other users who need to get online wireless style,as well as i needing to get online through use of the router wired connection. Im not sure what else to do,ive tried a bunch of different resets & configs, any idea's? Ide really appreciate it.

1)ensure the modem is connected to the router's internet port and the computer to the router's port#1
2)access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . the default password is admin
3)on th ui, click on the "mac add clone" subtab , enable it and click clone
4)save the settings and do a power cycle
5)check whether you can go online now ..

  • WRT54G not working with cable internet access - request for help

    Good evening!
At least that's the time when I write this.
I have a PC running Vista 64-bit version.
Until yesterday, I was connected to the internet using my WRT54G and a cable modem. There was a power outage (or blackout) and I lost my internet connection. I was not home when this happened. I got home and found the circuit breaker off. Since then, I can not access the internet anymore when I use the router.
If I connect the computer to the cable model directly, I can access the internet without a problem (hence I'm able to post this).
If I connect the computer to port 1 in the router, and connect the cable modem to the internet port in the router, I am not able to connect to the internet.
    I have already:
     - updated the firmware to the latest version (it was already installed)
     - reset the router pressing the "reset" button for 30 seconds, unplugging it, and reconnecting power still pressing the "reset" button for 30 seconds.
     - power cycled the devices
     - tested 3 differnet patch cables that I know are good and they work
     - reset the modem via a soft-reset remote request sent from the cable operator
None of these options have helped me restore my router's connection to the internet.
I know the router is working because I can print using my wireless printer and I can see my shared drives in the other PC I have connected to it,  but none of them are able to connect to the internet!
Does anyone have any additional ideas on how I can fix this, before I go out and buy a new router?
    Thanks in advance!
    Pablo

As you have mentioned in your previous post, that you have resetted your router and you are still able to Print from your Wireless Printer, I Feel that your Router is not getting Resetted properly, whenever you reset your router your router goes to Factory default mode, and it will change the wireless network name to "linksys" and your Network will be unsecured. Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable.
Once you reconnect the power to the Linksys router, On your computer Open IE and in the address bar type (http://192.168.1.1) and hit enter, when prompted for username and password, Leave the username blank and in password type "admin" and click Ok. Below the Setup tab you will find MTU, So change it to "Manual" and change the size from 1500 to 1365 and Click on Save Settings. Then Below the Setup Tab you will find the Sub tab "MAC address Clone" click on it and "Enable" and click on "Clone your PC's MAC" and click on Save Settings. Now you can Unplug the Power from Router and Unplug the Power for Modem. Wait for 30 seconds, and 1st connect the Power to your Modem and wait till all the lights goes Stable then you can connect the power to Linksys router and once all the lights are sold. On your computer Open IE and check if you are Online.

  • WRT54G Not working now

I bought a WRT54G v5 last June and it worked perfectly for a long time, until October or so and just stopped working all of the sudden. I've tried running the setup disc several times with DHCP and PPPoE and continually get a message saying that an internet connection couldn't be detected. It connects just fine without the router(obviously) but when I reconnect the cables nothing works. The only thing that I could think of being the problem is our Norton Internet Security 2007 program, but I'm not sure what to change if anything. If anyone could help at all it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any other common problems fell free to ask if I've experienced them.
Our connection is dsl through Earthlink with a modem they provided (ZyXEL P-600 Series).

When the modem is connected directly it auto connects (only need a log in and pass for email)

  • Router Linksys WRT54G not working. Please help!

My router stopped working yesterday. I suddenly had no internet connection, and I initially thought it was due to my internet provider. So I contacted them and after some tests, I connected my cable modem to the ethernet adapter of my PC, restarted the modem, and the internet connection was restored. So, the problem was in my router.
I'm trying again to connect the router (cable modem --> router ---> ethernet card in my pc) but it doesn't work.
I also uninstalled my firewall in case it was somewhat blocking the router, and updated its firmware to the last version. But still, it doesn'taccess the internet. I can access the router configuration via http protocol as usual but I have no idea what else to do.
Could you please give me a hand?

Have you tried resetting the router after upgrading the firmware not then, Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button..Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable..Now reconfigure your router...
Go to Setup Page of Linksys and Under setup tab, Click on Mac Address Clone,Check enable and click on "Clone Your PC's Mac " and Click on Save setting. Now turnoff computer, router and the cable modem....wait for 1 minute and turn-on the modem, wait for 2 minute and then turn ON the router and restart the computer..It should work now !!!!

  • WRT54G not working....all lights on

Last night my router was working fine. Xbox 360 was connected to Xbox Live and I was on the Internet on my PC. Then, I lost my connection all of a sudden. Connecting PC directly to the modem works fine, so it is definitely a router issue. Now, when I plug in the router, all the lights come on (except the Internet light). Power light blinks. (I understand this may be a firmware issue, but how can I upgrade the firmware if can't connect to the Internet thru the router?) I tried resetting the router and that didn't work. Any ideas?

Sounds like its been what they call "Bricked" or dead in other words.  What version and how old?  Can you ping the router?

  • WRT54GS not working right at all

I bought this about a year or two ago and it was working fine UNTIL some neighbors started using it and lagging up my stupid network! So i tried setting the Password and it worked fine password was enforced. BUT THEN i had to go all over administrative and change the SSID to Gabe..... that screwed everything up somehow. the computer would connect to the router under the SSID of Gabe and the SSID of linksys but when i would connect to either one it would just keep disconnecting! So i changed the SSID back to linksys and disabled the password to no effect.  i looked in the manual and it said to reset the router to it's original settings hold down the cisco button for 5 seconds, so i did. It went to some funky SSID like linksys_SES_4986759 errrr something like that so i did it again and it went back to linksys and the cisco button changed to orange again but now it STILL is connecting and disconnecting  on wireless and wont even go on the internet with a cable connecting the router to the computer.  all i'm asking is there SOME WAY TO COMPLETELY RESET THE SETTINGS COMPLETELY WITHOUT MESSING IT UP???????   and after that i will need to set a password without messing it up so is there any way to do that also?? or is linksys completely dysfunctional.....

Press the RESET button,on the back of the unit for 30 seconds. This will reset the unit back to factory defaults.

  • WRT54G wireless not working after upgrading to windows vista, please help

    Hello everyone....
I have a few problems. I upgraded to Windows Vista and cant seem to get my wireless internet working. My router is WRT54G wireless-g broadband router. Ever since I upgraded Vista my xbox 360 will not connect.
I just bought a new wireless web camera and that does not work either because the wireless is not working.
Any suggestions on what I should do to solve this issue?
I noticed when I goto 192.168.1.1 my firmware version is Firmware Version: v3.03.9 does that have anything to do with it? Is there a more up-to-date version that will help?
    Hope to hear from someone.

I have the same problem, and so does my son, he has a toshiba satellite new laptop and I have an acer new laptop, both have Vista on them, and my wife has XP and has no problem getting on teh router, but i have this problem everyday.
Eventually it will all of a sudden show up and connect and start working, then if you laeave your computer in standby movde overnight, it will still work in the morning, but if you shut down comeplety you will lose the connection for who knows how long. what is the fix Linksys?

  • WRT54GS Version 5. Firmware 1.50.9 Apple Computers do not work

Can anyone tell me how to downgrade the firmware in my router. The newest version of the firmware does not work with Apple computers, it works with my windows computers. Apparently this is a known problem with this firmware upgrade.

Unfortunately, the new firmware is only for the WRT54G. You'll find a solution for the WRT54GS here (the short version):
    http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=16882#M16882
including a source for firmware version 1.50.8 which is what you need for the WRT54GS
If you want the long version, you'll find it here:

  • Wrt54gs v6. 2 routers: Bridge not working?

    Hello all.
I am having big trouble to conect my wrt54gs v6 as a bridge. I need the main router (Thomsom ST510 V6) to act as router and the wrt54gs to work just for the wifi and for using the several outputs.
I was doing well till now, but now I want to conect also my XBOX360 and using xlink kai AND THEN I need a new nework layout. This second router in a different mode, thats for sure. Bridge?
The main one should be able to deliver IPs to the wrt54gs and the devices, I think. Right now seems than the wrt54gs makes too much and the xlink kai doesnt like it.
I do not have deep knowledge about all this. Can anyone help me?

If you want to use two router in your network .
First of all both the routers should be connected using the Ethernet cable as two routers cannot communicate wireless .

  • L2TP Passthrough not working on WRT54GS

I have a VPN server behind my WRT54GS (firmware v7.2.06) which I have no problems connecting to via PPTP.  I cannot however connect with L2TP.  I am certain that an L2TP request is not getting past the router because the connection attempt doesn't even show up in the VPN logs on the server.
IPSec, PPTP ad L2TP Passthoughs are all enabled.  I even setup port forwarding on 1701 UDP and 1723 TCP.  Also have ISAKMP/IKE at port 500, IKE NAT on port 4500 (both UDP) setup to forward.
I would rather be using L2TP for higher security.
I do not see what I am doing wrong here.  Any ideas?

If you are sure that port forwarding rules are properly applied, change the MTU to 1300 and see if it works, if it does not work change the MTU to 1200 and cross check...

  • Comcast Cable Internet not working with router (WRT54G), but network is fine?

My Comcast Cable Internet is not working with my router (WRT54G), but my home network is fine. The internet works without router.
    I have a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router from Linksys.
I was using Bellsouth DSL Internet up until two weeks ago.
I had my DSL modem connected to my router, and the router let me use the internet and share some files and printers with my laptop upstairs.
A few weeks ago we changed to Comcast cable. The technician came in and connected it himself, but only for the desktop. The internet worked perfectly, and still works perfectly on my desktop (the one downstairs). He didn't really give me any instruction or CD-roms for it.
When I tried connecting my router, the internet stopped working. It was weird because the router worked for the file sharing and printer sharing between both my computers, but the internet didn't work. Although, the light for the internet is lit on the router itself.
I even have this program called "AOL Network Magic" which shows a map of what is connected to the router, and it shows that the router and my laptop and desktop are connected, but then it has an "X" for the internet connection.
I have tried everything. I lost all of my CDs and things that came with Linksys, but I downloaded some guides from the Linksys website and it doesn't really help. I tried something called "NetSet", but after I set everything up it says my router is not compatible or something with NetSet. I read a bunch of FAQs, I tried going to comcast and seeing if they had any FAQS about it, but I can't find anything.
Maybe one of you can help me?
Also, I don't know my modem's IP address. I had it for Bellsouth, and sometimes when I would lose my connection I would go there and click on "reconnect" or something like that.
So the only way I can use the internet is to disconnect everything from my router and connect the ethernet cable directly to the modem.

You may open the web setup utility page of the router by typing its IP address on your browser's address bar. By default, it is 192.168.1.1.  When you're asked for username, you may leave it blank.  For password, its "admin". If in case that does not work, reset your router at the back for 30 secs and do a power cycle again, see if it becomes accessible after that...

  • Only the wireless is not working on WRT54G Router

I have been using this wireless router for a while now. We had a snow storm couple of days ago and since then the wireless portion of it is not working. I have Vonage and other power adapters connected through the other ports. All of them work fine except for the wireless. I have been trying on 2 laptops and the cell phone but had no luck even after doing  a hard reset on the router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Snow storms do not affect wireless connections. We have close to a meter of snow on the ground.  Temp -22 with windchill -30 does not affect my wireless connection on a WRT54G router.  You may have had a power faillure or power surge that killed your router.  Make sure your wireless is set to enable,  Use a unique name for your network.  Do not use Linksys as your network name. Enable the wireless switch on your laptop.
