WRT54G Wireless G Router and PS3

Hi there, I am a proud owner of the above mentioned items. The reason why I am posting this is that when I am playing on the PlayStation 3 and one of my other family members are on a hardwired computer, the hardwired computer I believe looses it's connection to the internet, but my PlayStation is still connected to the internet, and it works very good. My setup for my network is I have a laptop, Nintendo Wii, and PS3 connected wirelessly, and I also have two hardwired computers. I asked around on the internet, and other people said that I should not be having issues, and if I were that it might be something wrong with the firmware of my router. I do have the router fully updated with the latest firmware, so don't recommend that to me. So my question is, is anybody else having a similar issue, or am I just all alone on this, and is this a firmware issue, and if so, is Linksys doing anything to fix this issue? In case if anybody was interested, I have the version 6.0 of the WRT54G router.

Make sure your firmware is up to date. If not, upgrade it, reset and reconfigure the router.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Not working

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router and it has worked good for a couple months and yesterday it stopped. When I plug it in all the lights are lit even though there arent any ethernet cables connected and the power light blinks constantly. I tried holding the reset button on the back and it didnt help. Anyone know whats wrong or anything I can try to fix it?

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router and High Speed Internet

So I got a deal in the mail to get an upgrade to [50/25] Mbps Internet (I currently have [15/5]...when I was reviewing it on line this message came up...
Verizon will provide up to [50/25] Mbps Internet with a wired connection. If you use your Internet primarily for wireless or WiFi connections, you have the option to upgrade to Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router which will maximize your speed delivered through your wireless connection.
Upon completion of your order, you'll be provided with information for purchasing a router at Verizon's online equipment and accessories store.
I am VERY interested in getting super fast internet...my current internet is really good but it wouldnt hurt to bump it up.  I have several devices using internet in the home...most of them wireless (including my PS3).  I currently use a Verizon Actiontec router.
So here is my question...do I really need to get the above router to take advantage of that [50/25]? Also one other thing...My house is fairly large and I would really like to have two routers...is it possible to use two routers or a setup to have one upstairs and another downstairs?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
    -Jest

There are a lot of variables that affect wireless range.
Walls, interference, other networks in the area, etc.
You don't indicate which older Actiontec you have.
Wireless capabilities also vary by Actiontec hardware revision (A,C,D,E,F,G,I).
In general, wireless range for 802.11n is somewhat less than 802.11g, even though the bandwidth is higher.
This is especially true on the 5Ghz band (which the latest Actiontec doesn;t support).
If you only need another 10 feet, you could try moving the router, or replacing the antenna with a high gain antenna.

  • Connecting a WRT54G Wireless Broadband Router to a Westell DSL Modem

For some reason I can't get my wireless router to finalize the last step on installation on my desktop. I followed all the tutorials from the linksys help center and I still can't get the router to install correctly. I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. I made sure the IP address was in the 169.xxxxx range. Changed the default IP on the web based utility from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1  . When I changed all of the info mentioned before I could get internet service to my base computer, but I could not get passed the last step of installing the router and no wireless to any laptops. I have done everything by the book and it still doesn't work. If there is anyone that could help me, I would really appreciate it. I have DSL Internet service throught AT&T. My router is a WRT54G and my DSL Modem is a Westell Modem, Its black square shaped with five lights on the front.

  • Problems with a WRT54G wireless linksys router.

Hello, I'm having problems with my WRT54G linksys wireless router.
With this router, I tend to get lag spikes and often disconnect while playing online games at a certain time. The spikes usually get worse
    during the afternoon/evenings (2pm-12am PST).
    Some information about my setup:
    Firmware version: v.8.00.7
Shaw high speed cable (i think ~10mbit connect)
xp/vista OS (two computers linked up via router)
      - Both computers are connected via wire, not wireless
I've changed settings for my router through advice, but nothing seems to work. Nobody else is connected to my router because I get nothing
in the logs and the DHCP client list has only 2 IPs. I'm sure my router is the one giving me lag spikes because I sometimes connect my
modem directly to my computer (the XP) and receive no lag spikes. Someone does use wireless, but I turn wireless off at times so that
isn't the problem. I've also secured my wireless, so I know it isn't the problem.
Anyone know what's causing these lag spikes and how I can fix it? Do I need a new router?
If anymore information is needed, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Not so computer savvy

Try to readjust the wireless settings of the router...Open the linksys setup page and try the following settings...
    - Reduce the MTU size to 1364.
    - Change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.467GHz.
    - Under Advanced Wireless Settings,Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,RTS Threshold to 2304
Now,check the difference...If you are still facing the same problem then, try to upgrade/reflash the router's firmware, reset the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

I have try it without a firewall and get the same result
One thing I have notice, when I do a tweak test at http://www.dslreports.com my RWIN  without the router is 56000
If I connect the router is show 9800 even if my PC who as XP is set to 56000

  • WRT54G Wireless-G Router trouble!

I have been having problems with my internet connections for the past few days. At first I called my ISP because I suddenly lost all connectivity. They told me to disconnect the router and just hook up my access straight from the cable modem to the tower since, on their side, they saw that I was connected to the internet and also had a router. They told me to leave the router disconnected for a few hours for the cache to flush out because it wasn't taking in IP changes. So I did that and few hours later I hooked it back up and was back on the web. But I noticed a problem. There were some sites I was unable to access. The task bar would just read "wait....." and then I get the Problem Loading Page telling me that the connection was reset or that I had a firewall problem. I checked my firewall and security programs to make sure my settings were allowing connections to these sites. Indeed, they are. I googled my problem "unable to access some websites" to see what I could do with little success. I then remembered what the tech said about the router and took a suggestion from one of the tech sites of checking another browser to see if it works there. Indeed, I encountered the same problem there. I hooked up my connection from modem to tower again and I was able to access those sites once more. So I figured this is a problem with my router. To top it off, wireless connections cannot be made. They don't go through. I tried rebooting the router again and used the disk that came with it to set it up thinking this would help me. In addition I accessed the router site to change the settings. Nothing helped or worked. What ever cache is in there is still in there, or whatever problem it has with not accepting IPs is still present. I rebooted my system and tried to access the router site again, only to be blocked from there like some other sites. I'm truly troubled here. I tried the command prompt and: ipconfig/ flushdns release renew method Still no good. Just what is wrong with my router? How can I get this resolved. Why are those sites inaccessible now and how can I get whatever is mucking up DNS recognition to clear out so it can work properly again? I have had it on DHCP so it can automatically recognize changes. My IP is not static. I'm truly troubled here. Please help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    GOT IT!
    Ok. I did two things:
    1. I changed my port (just in case).
    2. I did a hard reset on my Router (didn't notice the button next to the initial cable input).
I powered down the modem, router, and my PC. Then I turned on my modem, switched out the router port, turned the router back on, did a hard reset and waited a bit. Then I turned on my PC.
After that I did my usual disk clean, accessed the web and did a clean cache of the browser ( just in case). Had my little brother come in and do a wireless test to see if it connects....
    VIOLA! It connected!
I tried out the sites I was having trouble with and SUCCESS! They connected!
IT WORKS NOW!!! I'm so happy!
Thank you all for your help! It's been much appreciated!

I recently upgraded from a wireless-B to a wireless-G router.  After setup, we configured all of the PC's in the house to the new security network password and all was good.  Our home PC's run Windows XP.  I then configured our laptop to the router with the new password and settings and all was good with it.  THe laptop runs Vista.
THe problem is with the laptop.  Everytime we turn on the laptop to use it, we have to change the password from the old password to the new one.  It will not save the new WEP password!!  It always reverts back to the old password that was configured with the wireless-B router once the computer shuts down!   HELP  ! ! ! !

yes contact your laptop manufacturer to update the drivers for the buil-in gateway adapter...will definately work then.

  • Wireless-G Router and Invalid IP Address Problem

Hello!  I have just installed a Belkin card into my son’s computer (WinXP) and then installed a Linksys Wireless-G router to our main computer (also XP).  The main computer accesses the internet fine via the router, and my son’s computer is showing that the router and Belkin card are working, but I’m getting an “invalid IP” message when I try to figure out why it won’t connect.
Here is some basic info that I thought might help.  I spent most of yesterday culling the Linksys site for suggestions, none of which have worked.  So if more info is needed, I’m sure I have it handy!
The icon try shows the two-computers icon and says, “Connected to: linksys-SES-64264.  Signal: Very Good.”
The tower icon says, “Belkin.  SSID.  Speed: 54.0 mbps.  Signal: Very Low. Status: Associated.  Address: 0.0.0.0”
    When I go into ipconfig/all, I see:
    Host……son’s name
    Primary Dns Suffix…..
    Node….Hybrid
    IP Routing Enabled…..No
    WINS Proxy Enabled…..No
    Desc…..Belkin 802.11g Network Adapter
    Physical Address…..00-11-50-60-B0-BA
    Dhcp Enabled…..Yes
    Auto Configure……Yes
    IP……0.0.0.0
    Default Gateway…..
    DHCP…..255.255.255.255
Can anyone offer some assistance, please?  I’m at a total loss at this point.  I’ve run the wizards a zillion times, etc., and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong!

It seems you're connected to a different SSID that's why you're getting a low signal in the first place and you're not getting any IP address at all.
    1. Click here to set up your wreless security (Follow the procedure only up to setting up 64-bit WEP)
    2. Use the wireless zero configuration of XP(the 2-computer icon on your system tray) to manage your wireless connection. Right-click the Belkin icon and look for an option to exit or disable. If it doesn't work or it doesn't have that opiton, use the Belkin wireless utility instead.
    3. Connect to your own SSID and type your network key/password you setup on step 1

  • Using Airport Extreme base station as wireless Cable router and airtunes.

Can I replace my wired Roadrunner cable modem with a Apple Airport Extreme wireless 56g router removing the wired modem out of the picture?
I just have read and have not come to the complete conclusion that the Airport extreme base station is a standalone wireless router.
I would like this if it is a wireless standalone router as I want to but a pair of wireless airtunes router for music around the house keeping the Airport Extreme in my room where the airtunes routers would not be as I have the computer in my room and I have iTunes right there and would not need the airtunes routers in my computer room.

Can I replace my wired Roadrunner cable modem with a Apple Airport Extreme wireless 56g router removing the wired modem out of the picture?
The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) does NOT have a built-in DSL/Cable modem. You will still require a Cable modem in order to access your ISP's Internet service.
I just have read and have not come to the complete conclusion that the Airport extreme base station is a standalone wireless router.
The AEBS IS a wireless router, but it is NOT a combination wireless router & cable modem.

  • Wireless MAXg Router and Mac OS X Leopard Problems

    Hi.
Before I upgraded to Leopard I was able to print through my Wireless MAXg Router. I had set up a connection using "Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP." The instructions from the router manufacturer are:
Select Advanced and select or enter the values shown below:
Device: Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP
Device Name: HP Deskjet 990c (example only, select your printer)
    Device URI: http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer
In Leopard, when I try to add the printer through the IP tab, I only can select "Internet Printing Protocol - IPP." When I click on "More printers" and hold the Alt/Option key, I am also not getting the "HTTP" option. I tried adding the printer using the IPP option, but the printer does not connect. Can anyone please help?? How can I add the HTTP option so that I can connect my printer??
    Thanks!

Thanks for the response. However, I am still having problems. I added the printer using the Advanced tab and entered the URL of the printer through the HTTP option. However, when I try to print something, it runs the driver, and ends up saying "connected" but nothing prints. The status still says "printing" and nothing happens.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!
