WRT54G2 V1 default gateway offline at seemingly random..

I use a WRTG54G2 version 1 router and had some internet problems before after I started using Windows 7, but thought I had it fixed by uninstalling AVG Free and doing a dns flush.
But just now twice in a row my internet connection failed again.
Some facts:
-Removing the internet cable in my PC and putting it back in fixes it.
-Disabling and re enabling the Realtek Driver fixes it.
-Windows 7 troubleshoot finds nothing, but Windows Live Messenger says my default gateway is offline.
-The one other PC (with XP) in the home network is not affected.
-I can not even access my router through my browser.
-I don't see anything wrong when I use ipconfig in cmd.exe (could be wrong)
-Screaming and crying does not fix it.
-Network map feature in Windows 7 has never worked even when I have internet.
-I have an Asus motherboard, so no Nvidia Nforce.
-Powersave for the Realtek driver is turned off.
It seems there are no driver or firmware upgrades for this router on this site, is this correct or did Cisco misplace them on the site?
I also made a screenshot of the ipconfig /all command in command prompt when my internet failed.

1. It's an "ethernet cable" not an "internet cable".
2. What you write sounds more like a computer problem. If you disconnect the connection either through the driver or by pulling the cable it reconnects again. You have another computer which works fine. You should try a different port on the WRT but I guess it makes no difference.
As uninstalling antivirus helped somewhat it could be malware on your computer. Malware and antivirus usually don't place nicely together on a computer.
Otherwise I would say it could be either the switch in the WRT or the port on your computer being slightly off the spec. Which one it really is is difficult to find out...
3. There is firmware on the US server:
07/08/2009
Ver.1.0.04 (Build 5)
Download 1.71 MB
But it's for US models. It may or may not work well with your router. I also kind of doubt that it will fix your problem.

  • I have a seemingly endless number of user profiles in my manager, when there should be the default, they all have some random hash and finish in "....hat" is this an issue?

    Ran my profile manager to create a second user profile for work and noticed there were a ton of profiles in there. all with seemingly random hashes, they all finished in |....hat| not sure what to make of it.

    Marcelo,
    I've been trying to load hundreds of pictures onto an SD card for digital photo frame and have the exact same problem. This also happens with a USB flash drive.
    Found a solution - stuff the files - copy the stuffed file onto card and unstuff at destination. Give it a try - would love to know if it works for you as well.

  • Why does text on certain portions of websites, usually when adjacent text contains special characters, become jumbled into seemingly random sets of characters that are not in any way jumbled when viewing the source of the webpage? How can I fix this?

    When viewing most text on most websites, it displays properly. However, there are two instances where text will either tend to, or consistently, become jumbled into a mess of seemingly random characters. Oddly enough, these seemingly random characters are not, in fact, random. The same weird character will be used to replace the same regular English text character consistently across the entire area that has been jumbled.
    The two instances where this tends to occur most often, or consistently in some cases, are, first, when a paragraph or particular section of formatted text contains special characters, such as Chinese or Japanese characters, or accented letters. When this happens, usually the paragraph that contains the special characters is completely jumbled, while the rest of the text on the page will have intermittent jumbling on a word or two. Most often, the word "the" is jumbled in this case.
    The second instance where this happens is when a website uses specially formatted text in some form or another. I, not being an expert at web development, am not sure what kind of formatting causes it, but I can provide consistent examples in lieu of my experience:
    - Example 1:
    [http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 1 shows a portion of a screen-shot of the website "Joystiq.com". Every single article title on the front page of this blog is consistently jumbled, while the text of the article itself remains untouched. Please note that when this jumbled text is highlighted, it is visible un-jumbled in the right-click menu as well as in the source code of the page. Other consistent instances can be found within many search fields on various websites. For instance, the search bar located at the top right of "Kotaku.com" consistently displays jumbled characters both on its default text of "Search" and on any text that is typed into the search box itself.
    - Example 2:
    [http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 2 shows both the jumbling of the paragraph containing the character "☆" as well as the subsequent peppering of the rest of the article's text with small jumbled words. Below this is the DOM Source of the selected text which shows how the text itself is being rendered properly within the site's source. Additionally, for convenience, I have edited on to the bottom of the image a small snippet of what the search bar on the same page looks like. Notice how the grayed-out text that normally would read "Search" is instead jumbled.
    This issue has been plaguing my browser for the past year or so, and I had hoped that it would go away with subsequent Firefox updates. It has not gone away.
    Thank you for reading! Please help!

    This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
    Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
    You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
    Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
    There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
    Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
    You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
    Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • My Final Cut Pro render files seem to end up in seemingly random locations.

    I find my Final Cut Pro render files seem to end up in seemingly random locations on the HDD. for example, they will appear in a sub-folder of an unrelated project. I would like my render files destination to be in a sub-folder for the project I am working on. How do you tell Final Cut where to put the render files? Can't figure it out.

    By default they are put inside your scratch folder, so if you change the scratch disk and forget to change it when you switch to a different project, your render files will be put inside the other project's scratch folder.
    You can change this by going to Final Cut Pro > System Settings. If you click the Set button below your current scratch disk (not the one next to it) you can assign a second location just for the video / audio renders if you desire (this must be on a different disk though).

  • Default Gateway doesn't work when entered in address bar

    I'm trying to get to my router's settings. The default IP address of my router (192.168.1.1) doesn't work when I enter it in the address bar. Neither does the Default Gateway that I got from clicking on start, run, typing cmd and then ipconfig/all. Does anybody know how I can access my router settings without resetting it?

    That seems to be the modem default gateway... is your PC connected to the modem via a USB cable? (sometimes that might be the case)... or what port of the router is your modem connected to?

  • WRT300N - Default Gateway issue

    I'm using a wireless internet connection for my laptop and when I tried to connect to the internet earlier I got an error telling me that my default gateway was offline. I unplugged everything for 5 minutes and it still didn't work so I typed the default gateway address into the bar and it wouldn't even load (I got an error page). When I went into cmd and typed ipconfig/all my default gateway IP wasn't even listed. How do I get this back online?

    If you don't have any computer connected to the Internet throught the router is highly possible that you have lost the configuration on your router...You should re-configure your router...
    If you have a desktop connected to the router fine, else connect your laptop to ethernet port 1 on the router...Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Default gateways and zones in a multihomed system

    We do have some problems concerning default routes and zones in a multihomed system.
    I found several posts in this forum, most of them referring to a domument of meljr, but my feeling ist that the paper is either not correct or not applicable to our situation?! Perhaps somebody can give me a hint.
    Let me sketch our test environment. We have a multihomed Solaris 10 system attached to three different DMZ's using three different network adapters. We set up two local zones with IP's of the DMZ's of adapter 1 and 2, leaving adapter 0 for the IP of the global zone.
    Now we set up default routes to ensure that network traffic from the local zones is routed in the corresponding DMZ's. That makes three different default routes on the global zone. On startup of the local zones, netstat reports the expected default routes to the correct DMZ gateways inside each zone.
    Now what happens... My ssh to the global zone sometimes breaks. When this happens, no pings are possible to the IP of the global zone. Meanwhile, pings from other machines in our network (even from different subnets) might produce replies, some don't. By now, I can't tell you if there's is anything deterministic about it... More interesting: the local zone connections aren't affected at all!
    So we did some more testing. Binding an IP address to the DMZ interfaces where the zones are tied to makes no difference (we tried both, with or without dedicated addresses for the adapter in the global zone). So the setup we're using right now is made of 5 IP addresses.
    IP1, subnet 1: adapter 0, global zone
    IP2, subnet 2: adapter 1, global zone
    IP3, subnet 2; adapter 1. local zone 1
    IP4, subnet 3; adapter 2, global zone
    IP5, subnet 3; adapter 2, local zone 2
    In the global zone there are three default gateways defined, one in each DMZ subnet. Inside the local zones, at startup you'll find the corresponding gateway into the DMZ. Everything looks fine...
    I opened five ssh connections to the different IP's. Now what happened... After approx. half an hour, the connections to two IPs of the global zone (adapter 0 and adapter 1) broke down, while the connections to all other IP's were still open. This behaviour can be reconstructed!
    So perhaps anybody has a explaination for this behaviour. Or perhaps anybody can answer me some qustions:
    1. How are the three default gateways handled? Is there still some kind of "round robbin" implemenation? How can I guarantee that network traffic from outside isn't routed inside the DMZ's without preventing the local zones from talking to each other (actually we only need to communicate on some ports, but the single IP-stack concept only gives us all or nothing...).
    2. If I do a ping from local zone 1 to the default gateway of local zone 2, this route is added as additional default gateway inside local zone 1! So does this mean, the routing decision is made only inside the global zone not taking into account where the packet is sent from?
    3. After all, how are the IP packets routed from the different zone and the global zone, and how are they routed back to calling systems from the various DMS's and other networks, routed via these DMS's???
    The scenario seems to be covered by http://meljr.com/~meljr/Solaris10LocalZoneDefaultRoute.html, but configuring the machine like stated in the paper leaves me with the problems described.
    I'd be happy for any helpful comment!

    you can have multiple gateway entries in deafultrouter file but the default gateway for global zone can be only one but you can specify different gateways for different zones..
    using this default gateway, you should be able to connect via different network...!

  • Cisco 4000 & 3000 series ip route & ip default gateway

    Dear all ;
    I have Enterprise Network Contain :
    - Foundry Big Iron work on layer 3 , and Combination of 4000 and 3000 and 2000 cisco switches work on layer 2;
    management network for the switches is 192.168.100.0
    Foundry Big Iron is 192.168.100.1
    i use ip default-gateway 192.168.100.1 on all cisco switches.
    all other subnets route through the foundry.
    but when i ping from any subnet (192.168.15.0) to any 3000 or 2000 switches series it replay and when i ping to 4000 series it don't replay.
    when i use default route command on 4000 series it replay.
    i need some explanation
    Kind Regards

    In the original post it describes the Cisco switches as operating as layer 2 switches and I assume that in terms of how they are configured to forward traffic all the Cisco switches including the 4000 are configured only for layer 2 forwarding. But with IP routing enabled (as seems to have been the case on the 4000) the behavior of the switch becomes a bit different. In particular is the difference in how you identify the default route. For a switch that is layer 2 only you use the default-gateway command (which apparently worked fine for the 2000 and 3000 switches). But when you enable IP routing then the switch does not use the default-gateway to learn its default route and would look for some other mechanism to learn its default route. I am assuming that there was not any other mechanism and so the 4000 basically did not have a default route. When you configure no ip routing (which was good advice from Paul) then the 4000 stops working as layer 2 switch and at that point will use default-gateway to determine its default route.

  • Computers connecting to internet via time capsule are reporting no internet connectivity.  PC is reporting default gateway has changed.  How to I correct this?

    Am having trouble with maintaining a stable wireless network via the Time Capsule.  Am running 1 Mac and 3 PC on a Time Capsule wireless in bridge mode connected to a Verizon wireless router.  Verizon wireless is turned off and the Time Capsule seems to be staying connected to the Verizon router.  When any of the connected computerss goes to stanby, they often report the internet is no longer available.  The PCs say the default gateway has changed ans the Mac simply reports the network parameters have changed.  What do I need to do to the Time Capsule to stabilize the wireless network?

    It is unlikely that the gateway changes.. but anything is possible.. sorry I am not in the US.. is your service adsl or cable?? What sort of lease time does the public IP have? Some cable companies now rotate then on the hour I noticed.. others on about 3months.. but most it is one day.
    Track it yourself.. see what gateway address the TC gets and if it is rotating with the IP.
    If your client computers are running Mountain Lion.. the plain fact is, they are not particularly stable.
    Wireless is worst.. ethernet tends to be ok.. but for instance Laptops updated to Mountain Lion can be pretty flakey.. with the TC.. and it is the combo that is more the issue. People report improvement with clean install of ML. BUT there is still a bug there that causes the ML to be less than fantastic.
    I experience it occasionally even with a dlink wireless router.. after a wake from sleep.. the network will drop out and need to be manually connected back.. I have to admit I expect no better from Mountain Lion. I could load Snow Leopard on it and it would drop once every blue moon.. but I got the laptop with ML so I live with it.. !!

  • The Default Gateway Is Not Available / Problem

    Hello, I recently purchased this HP Pavileon laptop, and I've been encountering this problem very often (every 2-10 minutes).  This problem is getting extremely frustrating as absolutely nobody has been able to provide a fix for this issue.
    When the laptop is on battery mode (this does not happen when plugged in); I commonly get disconnected from my wi-fi connection and to fix it, I must run the troubleshooter. This temporarily fixes the issue by resetting the wi-fi adapter.
    What I have tried and has not worked:
    * Turn off to save power option in the driver settings (in Device Manager) untickets
    * Updated drivers
    * New power plan
    * Tried different drivers
    * Complete system restore
    The wireless adapter is Realtek RTL 8188EE.  Upon running the troubleshooter, this is all the information from the detailed information section:
