WRT54GS Internet Access Restriction Doesn't Work

I have a WRT54GS wirless router and I can't get the internet access restriction capability to work. I'm trying to limit the time my kid's spend on their laptops, but the settings don't seem to take hold.
I have upgraded to the latest firmware (V4.71.1) for my router. (AT least I think it's the latest). I am using the Wireless MAC Filter for security, so only my family's PC's can access my wireless router (and I'm not broadcasting my SSID to the world). In the Internet Access Restriction screen, I have my kid's PC's MAC addresses in the PC list... same ones that I'm using to allow them to access the router, so I know they're correct. Then I have set the settings to 'Deny' internet access during specific time periods: 12:00 am - 1: 00 pm, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and 10:00 pm - 11:55 pm. I have 'Enabled' and 'Save Settings', so they should be live. After all this, my kids can still access the internet... this just doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas? Shouldn't this work even without the latest firmware?

Open the setup page of the router,Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz..Under Advanced Wireless Settings..Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Also reduce the MTU size to 1350.

  • WRT54GS Internet Access Restriction Policies

I am finding it challenging to correctly define Internet Access Restriction
policies on my Linksys WRT54GSv4 wireless router. Documentation does not
describe multiple policies being enabled.  I think that multiple policies
should be from most restrictive to least, but I am not sure.
I wish to deny Internet access from my child's WII and PSP from 10:30 PM to
6:30 AM.  Also, I want to filter all hosts for blocked words and blocked
    sites.
    Currently, I have three policies:
    1) Child_Evening --
    WII and PSP MAC Filter
    10:30 PM to 11:55 PM
    Deny
    2) Child_Night --
    WII and PSP MAC Filter
    12:00 AM to 6:30 AM
    Deny
    3) SiteWord --
    IP Range 192.168.1.2 - 254
    Block Various Sites
    Block Various Words
I would like input as to the correct use of multiple Internet Access
    Restriction policies

create an Internet Access Policy:1. Internet access Policy - 1
    2. Enable.
    3. Child Access(Name of the policy)
    4. Deny range 192.169.1.252
    5. 10:30 PM to 11:55 PM - Everyday
    6. Blocked Services - All
    7. Port Range Start - 1  ;  End - 61000
    8.Save Settings
    9.Rebooting....
You deny all access through by all services to any sites.
Create the same policy with different number and name to deny access  from 12:00 AM to 6:300 AM..
Url Filtering Policy to deny adult sites, they're too much with different url address. You can deny most of them, but not all.
    Good Luck!!!!!

  • "access restrictions" did not work sometimes when using 3-tier DeskI.

My customer found that "access restrictions" did not work sometimes when using 3-tier DeskI.
But this issue can be solved by logging on from another machine, or restarting the DeskI.
For I can reproduce this issue, so I just want to know that:
1.What is it probably related to?
2.If this issue happens again, what can I suggest my customer for tracking it?
For example, get some log files from servers etc.
    Thanks!

    Hi Sarah,
Also you can try the following solution.
    1. Import the universe.
    2. Go to manage access restrictions
    3. Remove the restriction .
    4. Again create the rescrition and unchecked the " limit size of result set to"
    5. Now assign it to the unlimited results group ( this is the name of
the group we have given to those users who should be able to retrieve
    more than X rows)
    6. Now we save the universe. (Dont export the universe).
I hope this will help you.

after a long in "stop" period, the internet connection (ethernet) doesn't work. before updating to mountain lion this problem didn't exist.

Gave up on the GUI.  This script derived from http://blog.netnerds.net/2012/07/os-x-how-to-setup-nat-on-lion-and-mountain-lion / seems to work for me:

  • Access Restrictions still not working with latest firmware

    Linksys WRT54GS V5 with firmware v1.52.2
I cannot believe what a frustrating experience this is. All I want to do is block facebook.com from my two high schoolers until they’ve done their homework.
Starting out, it simply did NOT work, and I discovered from this forum that the initial firmware did not work for this feature. So here is what I did:
    - Downloaded v1.52.2 firmware, which is indicated as being the latest for this router
    - Upgraded the router, per the instructions with this firmware.
    - Pressed (and held)the reset button for the indicated 30 seconds
At this point, my router switched back to the default access point name and access password. Fortunately, I had backed up my configuration, so I then:
    - Loaded my previous configuration that included my Wireless security settings, different AP name, etc...
    - Powered down, then back up router, cable modem.
Router now works wireless as before, but Access Restrictions still does not restrict. Router does list the correct firmware on the admin screens.
Here is how I sent up my one (and only policy)
    Internet Access Policy: 1(facebook)
    Status: Enable
    Enter policy name: facebook
    PCs: Allow checked
    Days: Everyday checked
    Times: 24 hours checked
    Blocked Services: NONE
    Wewbsite Blocking by URL Addresses:
    3 entered, they are:
    http://www.facebook.com
    http://static.ak.facebook.com
    http://apps.facebook.com
Website blocking by keyword: All 6 boxes empty
This was easier to do on my old netgear router, and it also actually WORKED. ARGHHHHHH

Thanks, but that did not work either. It seems to me that, entering mac addresses ended up totally taking away all internet access for the computers on the MAC list. This is really pathetic that a concept that on the surface seems so simple, as in 'deny access to hostname xxx.com' can be so difficult to implement. If there wasn't the suggestion that this were a feature of the router, I wouldn't care. But it *is* supposedly a feature, and the feature simply does not work.
It seem to me that LinkSys has too many mutually exclusive options on a single page. It would be easier to grok if the hostname filter had it's own page, then you wouldn't be wondering what the 'deny/allow' check box did or did not do in conjunction with your selections.
Does the feature work or not? As I mentioned, this was childishly easy to accomplish on my Netgear router. If it didn't suck so bad in other areas of performance, I'd simply go back to it.

  • WRT54G v6 Access Restrictions killing router connection

I've posted this question elsewhere, but an answer never came up, so I'm hoping to find a solution here
I have a number of sites I'm looking to block on my home network.  I set four access restriction policies (since you're limited on how many each policy can block), and it worked just fine.  The sites were blocked and everything went well for about an hour (give or take, I can't recall).  Then, my internet connection became erratic and started continually dropping.
The problem was that it wasn't my actual internet connection, but the router doing what appeared to be like a power-off refresh - the Power light would start blinking rapidly, and then it would either eventually reconnect on its own, or I'd have to reset the router.  No matter what, though, after enabling the access restrictions, I couldn't maintain a stable connection for very long. I know that these restrictions are the issue, because if I turned them off, it was fine.. and if I turn them back on, it acts up again. I downloaded the latest firmware, but that did not help.
The router didn't feel exceptionally hot (as I thought that might've been it), but the system allows for 10 policies to be enabled, so I don't think 4 should kill the whole system. I didn't see any type of other options in the access restriction policy panel that might be causing some type of internet connection interference, but I could be wrong. I'd really love to have these blocks in place, but I'd also love to be able to still access the internet at the same time
Any help or passed-on knowledge of what's going on would be extremely appreciated

It seems defective. But you can try reflashing the firmware and then holding the reset button for 30seconds after that. If that doesn't work then do a 30-30-30 reset. You might just have to use Open Dns if those suggestions don't fix the issue.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • WRT160N Website Access Restrictions won't work for https sites

I have successfully configured a website blocking access policy that blocks http:\\www.facebook.com on a WRT160N V1 v1.02.2.  I did this by entering www.facebook.com  as URL #1 and "facebook" as a keyword and it works great.  However, I have found that this policy does not block https:\\www.facebook.com.  You would think the keyword would be able to block this but it doesn't work.  Please help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Was there a solution to blocking https://facebook........?
I've entered the http and the https url, in additon facebook as keywords. When doing a search for facebook it's blocked and doesn't retrieve anything. When typing in the http url it doesn't retrieve anything, but once i add that S to the http it pops up.
Has anyone found a solution to blocking  https/facebook?

  • Got M-Cell that gives 5 bars, got full-strenth wifi, Internet on phone doesn't work, any app that uses internet doesn't work, seems like its started when upgraded to 7.1.1

I have an AT&T M-Cell that gives 5 bars, got full-strenth wifi. Same wi-fi that my computer uses, that my Kindle uses.  So not capacity issue. but my Internet on phone drops out continuously and frequently, any app that uses internet doesn't work at all. It seems like it started when I upgraded to 7.1.1  I have connectivity like crazy, so why doesn't the internet work?

Reboot your router by powering it down for 30-60 seconds.

  • My MacBook pro connects perfectly to the Internet but it doesn't work?

I'm connected to my wireless network perfectly, but the Internet is not working with firefox, safari or chrome. I tried pinging google.com and the response was 4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
This leads me to believe that it's a problem with the network ratherthan with my computer, but I'm not particularly computer savvy so I have no idea really

Ok, I have no idea what's up with it. My roomate's computer and my iphone work perfectly with the network's wifi but mine doesn't work at all. It works with the ethernet but the wifi doesn't. Any ideas at all?
I don't think it's a problem with my airport since it works perfectly everywhere else.

  • Creative Internet DECT Phone doesn't work with Windows 7

I just updated my operating system from windows xp to windows 7 and found that Creative Internet DECT Phone couldn't work at all. It says "Please upgrade your operating system". What can I do now?

    Thanks!
I figured out how to get Creative mediasource on Windows 7 by using the 5.26.02 version but it won't recognize my Zen Touch. Further searching brought up using the Plays for Sure Plugin 5.00.36 but was warned that it wipes my Zen clean to install updated firmaware. Will the pack you linked do the same?
I'm guessing I should back up my current library in any case. As soon as I figure that out on my old XP pc, I will forge ahead.

  • Accessing my Time Capsule hard drive over the internet via iCloud doesn't work.

    Hi Everyone,
I have an iCloud account and read recently, that it is possible to acces the hard drive of an Time Capsule over the internet, if "Back to my Mac" is activated on my MacBook an the Time Capsule.
I updated the Time Capsule to Firmware Version 7.6.1 and the Airport Utility to version 6. Actually the Time Capsule HDD is displayes in Finder's Sidebar, when I'm using a forreign internet connection. But when I click on it an error message tells me that a connection to the server (I assume server=Time Capsule) cannot be established. Funnily enough I can access the HDD of my iMac at home.
The Time Capsule network setting is "Bridge Mode" Since I can't deactivate the DNS functionality of my router/mode, an easybox 803 A, unfortunately which I cannot replace, because it is also used for hosting the telephone.
Does anybody have an idea, where the problem could be? Wrong settings in the Time Capsule config or maybe the blocking by the router?
    Thank you all in advance,
    Markus
Please consider, that I have absolutely no idea of networking.

I don't know exactly how, but I got it working. I will try to explain, what I did.
    1. I used the easybox as DHCP-Server an set the TC to Bridge Mode.
    2. Then I gave the TC a fixed IP in the easbybox menu by using it's MAC-address (It seems that the address range has to be either 192.168.X.Y or 10.0.X.Y to make the TC accessable later).
    3. I made the TC a DHCP-Server (DHCP only, not also NAT). The IP addess range of the TC starts after it's own IP adress (10.0.0.111) and ends at (10.0.0.250). The IP range of the easybox starts with 10.0.0.1 (it's own) and end with the TC's (10.0.0.111).
    4. Then the Airport Utility told me that if I want to share an DHCP range the TC has to be set to a fixed IP setting, which I set up, leaving the IP-address 10.0.0.111 and the Router IP 10.0.0.1 (the easyboxs').
    5. Then it worked in my case. Since I don't even know what I did, I'm not shure if it workes under other circumstances.
There are of course many variables. Such as the type of the router and the TC or the kind of the internet connection.

  • Internet connects, but doesn't work properly

I know there are a lot of topics on this, but mine is pretty specific. I'm using a Macbook I bought last August (Model Identifier MacBook4,1) and running OS 10.5.6 (I can't update to 10.5.7 because I`m having trouble connecting. Recently I noticed a bit of lag between the time my computer appeared to connect to networks via built-in aiport (the airport signal would turn dark in the top right hand corner with and show my signal strength) and when the the computer was actually able to transfer data from the internet (i.e. web pages wouldn't load on browsers and other applications faild to load data and stated there was no connection to the interent). It didn't seem to matter much what network I was logging onto (my home network, my school's, or a wifi hotspot. I'm not great with wireless networking, but I've used macs all my life and and know how to use them very well. I could usually fix the problem by quiting all apps and waiting a few minutes or restarting my computer. I recently arrived in Costa Rica to study abroad, and much to my dismay the problem has worsened. There aren't many places to access the interent here, but the school I am studying at and a cafe have wifi. When I try to connect it my computer has three problems. Sometimes it does't recognize the network even when I am right next to the modem where the signal is strongest. When I search for a network enough times it eventually recognizes the network though. Once I find the network when I click to connect it sometimes starts connecting then just stops before connecting. If I click to connect to the network enough times it eventually connects. When I am supposedly connected it my computer can't trasfer data. When I click on Network Diagnostic it at the Network Settings stage a window pops up stating the Network COnfiguration has changed. The internet the works for a minute or two before once again discontinuing the trasfer of data while inciating I am still connected. I have tried restoring network settings to defaults, but this doesn't change anything. Neither network requires a password. Two fellow students with the same model of MacBooks have been able to connect without problems. We've tried looking at all of my settings and haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. I have a nagging suspicion that my airport card may just be shot. I will be here for most of the summer and I'm pretty sure that my waranty expires while I'm here. There is an Apple store in San Jose about 30 minutes from where I'm staying. So my questions are: 1. Does anyone know how to fix my computer, because I would really like to use it to comunicate with my family? and 2. If it is defective can I take it to the Apple store here even though I purchased it in St. Louis, Mo USA (I've found that my battery is defective already though these forums because only one thread had my specific problem with my battery and all the owner's said that you just have to take it to the Apple store and get a new batter)? If I can't take care of the the defect(s) here is there any way to extend my warrenty for a month until I return to the States without paying to extend the warranty 1-3 years (being a student who's already taking out loans to study abroad I don't have much cash on hand nowdays)?

Try connecting to a network with an ethernet cable and see how it performs. If that is also not responding this would indicate a possible software error.
problem with my battery and all the owner's said that you just have to take it to the Apple store and get a new batter)? If I can't take care of the the defect(s) here is there any way to extend my warrenty for a month
Apple does not cover batteries under warranty as batteries do loose their capacity over time. If a battery suddenly stops working then apple may look into that. You would have to speak to apple care about that.
You cannot extend a warranty for 1 month you could purchase apple care and get 2 years of extended warranty. Although if the problem is reported to apple care prior to your warranty expiring then you may be ok, but I stress you would have to talk to apple care directly about this.
Why not take the mac into the apple store I am sure you can make an appointment to see an apple genius anywhere in the world.

  • WRT54G Scheduled access restrictions

Sorry if it's a duplicate but I didn't find an answer.
I have WRT54G  Firmware 1.02.8; PCs- windows different versions.
I want to block some sites on weekdays 3-8 pm.
I setup policy 1 "Allow all" which allows full access alwais, for everybody
then Policy 2 "No youtube"; List of PCs: set; Allow; Days: Mon-Fr; Times: 3pm-8pm; Website blocking: www.youtube.com
policy 10 "Allow all"  full access alwais, for everybody
Within that time window 3pm-8pm it works as expected: ypoutube gets "Connection was reset", other sites are fine.
however outside of that time nobody can access ANY web sites getting timeouts.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately no luck   No access outside the window.
It looks like it is taking most restrictive policy possible and since there is policy exists and nothing is saying access allowed outside my window it is blocking me.
    Any ideas of workaround?
    Thanks.

  • WRT54G v8 Access Restrictions

This should be an easy question...
What Access Policies do I need to enter so that the Internet can only be used from 5am-11pm.  I have selected the MAC address the policies apply to and everything.
I tried entering one policy that specified Enable 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM, but it worked intermittently.
Then I tried to enter policies to:
    Disable 12:00 AM - 5:00 AM
    Disable 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM
But it wouldn't let me enter 12:00 AM for midnight.
I got different answers for the live chat both times I contacted them...
What is the right way to do it?

    Yesterday I set it to:
    Disable 12:00 am - 5:00 am
    Disable 11:00 pm - 11:55 pm  (you can't set 11:59)
Today I tried to get on a few minutes ago (noon) and couldn't.
I deleted the policies, and here I am.
Has anyone been successful in getting these policies to work????
