WRT54GS Sends me to Germany

Recently all 5 of my home my computers redirect MS maps.live.com to Germany (German language).  I'm in Ohio, and it always opened to the US before.  All my settings in MS are fine, and I've done all the steps they asked to check and they were fine.  On a whim, I bypassed a computer from the router directly to the cable modem, and maps opened properly to the USA.  So there is something in the router that's causing me to go German only for MS Maps.  I flashed the firmware from 7.50.2 to 7.50.5 to no avail.

There are a couple of possibilities why you are sent to the German language page:
1. Your Windows is German or you have set the locale to German.
2. You have configured your browser to show you preferably German language if available.
If it is 1+2 and you have used to get the US page before, it may well be that you have changed it the very first time you have accessed maps.live.com and it was store in a Cookie. Now the cookie either expired, you have removed the cookie, or you have a personal firewall installed which for whatever reason chose to block this cookie now.
3. Your public IP address was incorrectly thought to be in Germany. There are a number of services in the internet which try to map IP addresses to countries, states, cities. Of course, these mappings must be maintained continuously, some information is incorrect, and sometimes an IP block is moved to a different ISP in a different country which means that for a while the IP block is mapped incorrectly. Your computer directly connected to the modem gets a completely different IP address then your router. This could result in incorrect mapping.
I think with maps.live.com it is 3.
The router is most likely not the cause of the problem. It does not influence what your browser sends to the server nor has it any influence on which IP address your ISP assigns to the router.

  • Using a WRT54G in Germany - what's different?

I'm interested in the WRT54G to use in Germany. I've noticed there is a UK and an UE version (depending on if it's purchased from UK or Germany).
Can the UK version be used abroad (with a plug adaptor)?
What connection settings need to be changed if the UK version was used in Germany.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I was in Germany, I ran a US-model WRT54G with no additional configuration, other than setting it up for T-Online's PPoE network settings (which wasn't that hard, as I recall).  I think they still use PPoE, but not entirely sure.  The router itself required no special changes, connectors, or settings--though mind that you will need to run the power supply through a quality 220-->110 transformer.  Do NOT plug the router directly into a 220 socket, even with a plug adapter--you WILL fry the supply, and possibly the router itself, in very short order.
Wireless router use did not incur any additional fees in Germany, either.  The hardest part of setting up your network there for me was the maze of devices required to run DSL and telephone; once I got signal coming out of the system and into the router, the rest was fairly straightforward.
As previous post mentioned, however, simply using a wireless router manufactured for another location may violate local frequency use laws.  However, if you're going UK to Germany, both are within the EU and, I'm fairly certain, thus comply with the same frequency rules.  I imagine the only difference between UK/EU models is in the power supply plug adapter included in the box.
FWIW, I plan on taking my current WRT54GS router with me to the UK when I move in a few months, and I don't anticipate any problems.
    Good luck, and enjoy Germany!

  • HT3529 Does IMessage charge anything for sending messages Internationally?

When I use IMessage to send messages from Germany to LA will it charge me extra?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The Message app has two functions, actual iMessages that are text messages that use Apple's servers to connect folks with iOS devices and use wi-fi and possibly a data plan and also text messages using the SMS protocal and can communicate with any cell device with this capability and for which telcos will charge their normal fee.
If the message bubbles are blue, then they should be free iMessages. If the message bubbles are green, then they are SMS text messages and will incur a charge.

  • Sending card to another country

My Apple ID is registered in the UK store and I would like to send a card to my friend in Germany.
Unfortunately, once I prepared the card and proceeded to check out – I can't change the destination country. When I try to edit the address it allows me to edit street and other info, but the country is fixed.
I can always order it to be shiped to me and then send it to Germany myself, but I would imagine that it should be doable straight from iPhoto... Any ideas?

just found the answer here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15141710#15141710

  • Use Iphone in Germany

    Hi
Can I buy an iphone 4 in the english apple store and send it to germany?
Can I also use it for the german mobile network?

Can I buy an iphone 4 in the english apple store and send it to germany?
If you mean the UK Apple Store then Yes. iPhone's sold in the UK by Apple direct are SIM-free and will work with any SIM.
Your warranty will only be valid in the UK though... and Apple won't ship anywhere other than a UK address from the UK Store.

  • INDD crashes at quitting and INX files

    hi
I sometimes get INX files send over from Germany, I open them in 4.05, save them to CS2 - all works ok, but when I quit Indesign at the end of the day it crashes. I think it has to do with the INX file as IND doesn't crash otherwise. Any idea why?
    Thanks and cheers from Australia
    Astrid

After opening the inx file export it as inx see if that cleans up the file.

  • IPhone 3G S - Way to legally unlock?

    Hi @ all,
I have an iPhone 3G S (how surprising). Anyway... my employer just mentioned a couple of days ago that he wants to send me to Germany for some time. Since the iPhone is Quad Band it shouldn't be an issue using it overseas. However there is the problem with the AT&T SIM Lock... and there is no AT&T in Germany. Is there a legal way to contact AT&T / Apple to ask them to unlock the iPhone? At least Apple should technically be able to perform an unlock. Because I have to switch to a German carrier like T-Mobile Germany (which exclusively sells the iPhone). I guess I could jailbreak it (as far as I know the Dev Team is working on a SIM Lock for iPhone OS 3.1) but I rather wouldn't if there is a legal way to perform an unlock.
    Any suggestion is welcome.

For other subsidized phones (like my current Treo), ATT will unlock the device after the 2 year contract commitment period is over. Logically, they should do that with the iPhone as well.
"Logic" is a funny thing when there is an exclusive carrier contract with the manufacturer. Treos, and BBs don't have carrier exclusive deals. AT&T isn't unlocking any iPhones, regardless of whether the user contract has expired. Don't bet on this happening unless the FCC rules change to require it, or AT&T loses the exclusive iPhone deal.

The OP just needs to get the SIM lock (subsidy/network code)  undone, which cannot brick the phone.  Of course, you can use it with the VZ SIM, but that will be very expensive for German use.

VZ will unlock the phone for contract customers who have been with them long enough (1 per year), but that wouldn't work for you probably.   However, lots of places will unlock Motorola phones, and I don't think the fact it is a new model really matters (it's keyed of the IMEI, doesn't really matter which phone it is!)

That said, is this such a great phone if you just use it  in GSM mode?  I thought at that price you can do better and get some of the fancy phones that we would like over here!

  • Why is my iPhone 5 sending data over cellular while on wifi using Vodafone Germany?

    Hello,
I know that this is a common mistake on verizon iphone 5. i have the same problem with my iPhone 5 in Germany. It keeps sending data over cellular while I am on wifi. The wifi connection itself works though, even when I turn off cellular data. So my wifi is not broken.
Another thing that makes me curious is that my iPhone keeps sending data to somewhere and I don't know what it is sending. This led to the point that I reached my Monthly limit of 200mb within 2 days!!! And almost 95% of that was upstream. So I bought another 300mb and turned off cellular. Now I turned it back on and the megabytes are just running through. I thought it might be diagnosis and iCloud but I turned both off and it's still the Same way. Due to the enormous amount of data that is being sent the battery empties really really fast!! I was on a 20 minute car drive and my battery went down 23%!!! When I turn cellular off and use wifi it behaves completely normal.
So this is really annoying me and I hope that Apple will fix this or one of you guys can help me.
    Best regards from Germany,
    Sitham

You may have a problem with your WiFi network if your iPhone can't stay connected to it.
If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPhone. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPhone on some other networks: a friend's, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is with your network. Try restarting your router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPhone does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPhone is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

No we cannot send it to you because we are users just like you and Apple does not monitor these forums.
But you can find the IMEI numbers yourself. Read the ENTIRE article:

i bought i pad 3 in canada 4 months ago but i think it's got problem with battery .i live in germany i don't know where to send it

Not quite what I heard when I went into the Apple Store in Hong Kong yesterday.
I have just bought an iPad in Hong Kong but will eventually be travelling back to the UK.
Louis in the Apple Store told me that iPads without cellular have international warranty but those with cellular do not (as there are slightly different models for different carriers).
But he was pretty cagey and essentially couldn't give a clear, straightforward answer. Which most Apple employees can't.
It is now a grey area, at the discrection of each local Apple Store & is subject, it seems, to you paying the import duty as a possible get out clause.
Look carefully but do tell us if you got this iPad reapired. Thanks.

HI I am visiting Germany from U.S. I can receive emails on my eyepad but cannot send! Any suggestions?

Try to not use the mail app but rather use your service's webmail interface. For example, my mail is through yahoo. If I have issues with the mail app I can use safari and go to yahoo.com and access my mail that way.
