WRT54GS V7 Firmware version?

Hi all! I've recently bought a WRT54GS V7 cable router/access point. Now, given the problems I've had with previous devices, I'd like to make sure that the firmware is completely up-to-date. However, when I go to the Linksys UK website, and find the product download page, I am asked which version of the device I have. I have version 7, but it is not in the list. Interestingly enough, when I clicked on version 6, and then looked at the firmware version details, it said something like "for version 5 only". My router seems to have version 7.50.0 firmware installed. Maybe this is the version which they all have, and there are not yet any updates available. Does anyone know? Thanks Michael

Change the default country to US.
Well, I thought I'd tried that already (although it makes no sense to me - I bought the item in the UK).
However, when I look carefully, I notice that my location is being changed back to 'UK' whenever I try to navigate to the 'Technical Support' page. So this time, I've cleared my cookies, it works, and I can find the file.
Someone from Linksys might want to get around to updating the UK page, and sort out the location changer so it actually does change when you tell it to. I'm sure that I'm not the only person in the country to have bought one.
Anyway, thanks for the help, and for the quick response!
Michael

  • WEBSITE BLOCKING ON WRT54G V6 (Firmware Version: v1.02.8)

    Hello Friends,
Short: why some webpages block and others don't using this feature in my router?  As mentioned above, I run a small office and  am using an ::: WRT54G V6 (Firmware Version: v1.02.8) ::: router.
For instance, I have been successful in blocking sites such as "sex.com" and others.  Also, in blocking sites by keywords such as: news, music, vid, nude, etc.  BUT, when I try blocking FACEBOOK or TWITTER either by URL or keyword, guess what: IT DOES NOT WORK...!
Any ideas why this happens and how can I be successful in configuring this feature???  I will appreciate this!  Blessings...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Those sites have a random connection and DNS entries. Your best bet would be to use a DNS servcie like DDNS.com or OpenDNS.com service. Point your router to one of those DNS services and there DNS addresses, then set up one of those services to block FB and Twitter. If you use there DNS addresses on your router instead of the ISP DNS, and you block FB and Twitter, users should beable to get to FB or Twitter after that.

  • Port forwarding not working on WRT54G v5 Firmware Version: v1.02.2

    Hi
Yesterday i updated firmware on my WRT54G v5 from v1.00.1 to v1.02.2 and now port forwarding does not work.
I have 2 PCs connected to my router. Both PCs have static ip  (192.168.1.103 & 192.168.1.105). DHCP server in the router is ofcourse disabled.
For some reason i can not get port forwarding it to work. The weird thing is that
ALL requests are now forwarded to 105 regardless how i configure.
    * I have set up different port forwarding rules that points to my 103 PC.
    * I have put the 103 PC in DMZ.
    * I have disabled DMZ and removed all port forward rules.
Still ALL requests are forwarded to 105??
What i am doing wrong? Why does it default send everything to 105?
Note that I had no problems with port forwarding before the upgrade.
    Everything was working fine.
I upgraded because i wanted a fix for "DynDNS abusive updates".
I have seearched the forum for tips and tried setting MTU size to 1396 and shutting down my entire network and then restart everything. Also tried to uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" but still same behaviour.
    I really need help!!
    Thanks
    D_M

well it is weird...anyways try resetting the router back to factory default settings and reconfigure it...check whether it works for you or not.

  • I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02...

I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02.1 Mar 4 2003. i down loaded the latest firmware for the modem but i can't install it. I get the erroe message"incorrect image file".
    What is wrong?

Which version of the WRT54G do you have?  If it is not clearly stated on the router, go to Wikipedia.org and search for WRT54G, then you can use your router's serial number to determine which version of the router you own.
The version of the router is important.  Each version has a different set of hardware in it, so each version takes a different firmware.
You can only load the firmware that corresponds to your model and version.

  • WRT54G, Firmware Version: 8.00.2, Stops routing after a day, Requires Power Cycle to Work Properly

WRT54G, Firmware Version: 8.00.2, Stops routing after a day, requires a quick 10-15 second power cyc... work properly for a day or so before powering down again….
I was using for years the BEFW11S4 Model without any issues before it finally failed. Due to loyalty, I went out over a month ago to purchase the current model. The problems did not pop-up until month of December… The issue had me thinking at first was the internet connection…
Any advice on dealing with this issue… Is it a Software and/or Hardware? It appears to be a software related condition…
For those other WRT54G users that appear to be having similar issues, regardless of the firmware, it would appear we all seem to be facing the same condition of resolving the issue after a power cycle…
Is there anyone out there that has already resolved this issue (e.g. Configuration changes)? Does anyone have input that Linksys is actively working on this issue?
Although I am sure we will find a solution, having to cycle the power is a bit disappointing since my older model had no such flaws with my current internet connection…
Thanks for the support out there….

If you have an Intel wireless card you can try this.  I came across this link on the forum a days ago and it seems to help.  The problem is that my problem was much more intermittent than some people are experiencing.  It mainly seemed to appear when undocked the computer or if there was a power outage during the day.  I would be interested to see if it works for you or if I'm just chasing my tail.  I've seen other suggestions for changing the thresholds in the router which may be related.

  • How do I determine current firmware version for WRT54G

I've been poking around the site a bit, and note that there are mandatory upgrades to various firmware versions. I'd like to upgrade if necessary, but have no idea how to determine what firmware version I have right now.Message Edited by shelmart on 12-17-200605:36 AM

What is the excact hardware version # of your router? U can find that underneath the router itself, there's a sticker there & its just right below the Linksys Logo. If its version 5 or 6, u can go to this website: www.linksys.com/connect . Download  & save Easylink Firmware Tool & then before u run that file after saving, disable first all your internet security like firewalls & anti- virus coz it will block the connection of this software from running properly. That EFL will automatically upgrade the firmware of your router.

  • WRT54G / upgraded firmware, unable to access across subnets

    Hi,
I have a network with 10 WRT54G (v6) 's.  Recently I upgraded the firmware on two units from 1.00.7 to the latest 1.02.2 and am experiencing some network wierdness.
The wireless routers are connected via the LAN port to a linux router which is a firewall/bridge between subnets 10.1.3.x & 10.1.1.x.  I have rules in place to allow my workstation to http to the 10 routers and disallow everything else.  All of this is logged.
I cannot from my workstation (10.1.1.x) access the web interface on the two units I upgraded the firmware on 10.1.3.x).  I can still access the web interface on the remaining units (10.1.3.x)
I can however access the web interface from the same subnet to the newly upgraded units.
I can see from the firewall log that the packet is making it out correctly and tcpdump verifies this.
Does anybody have a clue what is going on.  I feel like it would be best to return to the previous firmware, but where do I find it???
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
logon to ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/ and download the previous firmware version and try downgrading the firmware...

  • Can't connect to WRT54G after firmware update

I just tried to update the firmware on my WRT54G (version 8.0) and have not been able to connect to the router since then. The firmware said that it had been updated successfully, however I have been unable to connect since it reset itself, and the Ethernet and Internet LEDs are all constantly on even though nothing is connected (the power light on the other hand is behaving normally, not blinking or anything). I have tried resetting the router by holding down the reset button for 30 seconds, but this does not change anything, the router still cannot even be pinged. If anyone can give me any help at all with this, it will be very much appriciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the router might already be dead.  But there is always hope that you might be able to revive it.
You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • WRT54G v6 firmware upgrade under Vista problem

I'm not sure if this is related to Vista or not.
I downloaded the correct firmware version for WRT54G v6 and selected upgrade using the web interface. After a few minutes, the browser directed me to a site with the following URL
    http://192.168.1.1/upgrade.tri
My IE7 had problem displaying this page and the Power LED on the router kept blinking. I tried to connect to the web interface and it was still showing Firmware Version: v1.00.9
I don't think there is anything wrong with what I did and not sure if the upgrade was successful. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I found the solution here http://www.scorpiontek.org/portal/content/view/27/36/1/3/:
This could be because you are accessing the router over HTTPS. You cannot upload firmware or settings to a WRT54G v5 over a HTTPS connection unless you have Linksys firmware v1.00.9 or later. Try accessing it using just plain HTTP.
Enabling and using http instead of https worked for me. No need to reset or reconfigure.
    I upgraded from 1.00.1 (IIRC) to 1.02.2.

  • Firmware Version?

This may be a very basic question...how do I find out what my firmware version my Airport Express currently has? I just bought my Express yesterday, and have it up and running (with a Linksys WRT54G wireless router); and have read on this forum about problems with older firmware versions (6.1.1) and want to make sure I have V6.3 on mine. Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but most likely, upgrading/downgrading firmware will potentially erase your current settings.
Sounds like you set up the AX in client mode since you're using an existing wireless router in your network. If so, the following link provides the steps to get it back up and running. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153)

  • WRT54G V5 firmware

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why the web site at linksys is now showing firmware version 1.00.9 for WRT54G V5 dated May 2006?
I have been to the site and picked up firmware version 1.01.1 dated Nov 2006 around Christmas. I went to check today to see if a new version was available and it is now showing the older one.
Why was the later version removed? Should I be reinstalling the older version?
    Specific answers would be great.
    Cheers
    Habbie

Usually Canadian ISP's works well with US based firmwares since they are  treated as one and the same anyway.

  • WRT54G with firmware 1.01.1 and Vista

Has anybody tried connecting wireless using Vista Home Premium with a WRT54G v5 using firmware 1.01.1?  I have tried to get this to go and can't ping the router.  I can get this to go using firmware 1.00.7 using someone elses unsecured network.  I have tried forcing in an IP address, default gatway, and DNS server into Windows Vista network set up  These settings work on the other network but not mine.  I have tried disabling the firewall in the router and the wireless security.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

If I connect a cable to the router I can do surf the web or access the router ui.  I can ping the router.  If I try to use wireless, there is no connection to the router.  Resetting the router does not help.  Re booting the router is no help.  I can connect to another network (unsecured) and surf so I know the wireless is working.  I have even tried another router (not Linksys) and that is no help.
I have upgraded now to firmware version 1.02.0 and still can't connect.

  • WRT54G V8 firmware upgrade, easylink issue

I was having the typical dropped  connection issues  that these routers seem to be famous for (WRT54G).   The easylink application was installed and working.  I upgraded firmware to the newly released 8.00.4.  After the firmware upgrade the easylink app.  still worked for all functions except for setting wireless security.  For that, any changes had to be input manually through the web based utility or whatever it is called (inputting 162.198.1.1)  in the adress bar.
I had a software conflict and had to uninstall the Easylink advisor software and then reinstall it.  After reinstalling,  the easylink will not recognize the router at all.  Message states something to the effect that the router is either an old Linksys not supported by easylink or another brand.  I know this has to be because the easylink has not been updated to work with the new version of the firmware.
Is there any way to get the Easylink advisor to recognize the router with the new firmware?
Or, is there a link to the previous firmware version so that I can flash the router with the previous version?  Then I could get the easylink to recognize the router again and will only lose security access after I re-flash with the new firmware.
Or, is there anything else I can do to get the easylink advisor software to recognize the Router with the new Firmware installed?
    Thanks

The Easy Link firmware should connects using the new firmware ....
Reset the router for few seconds ,.......After reset disable all firewall & run Easy link tool .....
    It will work .....

  • WRT54GS v7 firmware options

    Hello everyone
I am using a wireless Linksys wrt54gs v7 and for the past few weeks I have been loosing internet connection on my laptops about once a day to were I have to pull the power on the router to reestablish my connection. This is happening on 2 different laptops so I feel confident that they both don't have bum wireless. I was thinking about reflashing the firmware on it and thought if I was going to do this I would look into some 3rd party firmware. The trouble I am running into is that it appears from what I have been reading is that after version 4 they dropped the flash from 4mb to 2mb which seems to be the stopping point for all the 3rd party firmware. Are there some out there I missed that are worth while to look at or is my only option to stick with the Linksys firmware. It is not a show stopper but I would like to know my options
Thank you in advance for any advice given.

Whats the current firmware version of your router. As of now the latest firmware for WRT54GS v7 is Ver.7.50.5, Which you can download it from the Linksys website, and your can re-flash the firmware of your router again. Once you re-flash the firmware on your router, you need to follow some setps on your router, i think it might solve your problem.
Once you sucessfuly upgraded the firmware on your router,Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router... Here are some settings which you can set on your router to make your wireless connection stable.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
