WRT54GX2 isn't working, can't access its settings

There seems to be a problem with my wireless WRT54GX2 router. It was working fine but now is not. Not only can I not access the internet when it is properly connected but I can't even reach the 192.168.1.1 settings. If I disconnect the router and connect directly to the modem and login to my SBC DSL PPPoE the internet works fine.
When the router is connected the power, internet, wireless, and LAN LEDs are all on. I have hit the reset button and it doesn't help. I have ran the router's setup CD, followed the directions, but when I reach the final step of saving the settings I eventually get the message that the router can't be found.
Any suggestions?

You will need to try to reset your router to the factory defaults.  (Note: if you get stuck at any step, note the exact error message, and what lights on the router are on.)
Do the following:
1) Power down your computer, router, and modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Connect one computer, by wire, to LAN port 1  (not the Internet port).  DO NOT CONNECT THE MODEM.
4)  Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
5)  Press and hold the router reset button for 20 seconds, then release the button.  Allow the router to reset and fully boot (2-3 minutes).
6)  Power down the router, and wait 2 minutes.
7)  Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up computer.
9)  Now, try to ping your router.  To do this, click the "Start button", select "Run".   In the box labeled "Open", type in "ping 192.168.1.1"  (no quotes), then click on "OK".   A black box will open and 3 or 4 lines will appear that start with "Reply from ..."  or  "Request timed out".  If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
10)  Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1  
11)  Leave the user name blank, and enter the password "admin"
12)  This should take you to your router setup pages.  Note the router's firmware version.   This should be listed in the upper right hand corner of the router's web page.
13)  Close your browser.
Report back with your results, including your firmware version, and any error messages, and we will proceed to the next step.
If you get through all the steps with no errors, and all this is working, then you should be able to use your setup CD to complete the router setup.

    Are you in an area where there is no coverage?
    You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
    If that doesn't help, then yOu'll need to contact Sprint again.

  • Can't access print settings

    Hi.  Whenever I save a set of print settings for printing I can no longer access Print Settings again.  I searched the forum and found this response. This works but then the problem represents itself the next time I go to print.  It is rather tedious to reset all my preferences every time I want to print a document.
    Mac 10.6.8. I have the latest version of CS5 fully updated. Printing to an Epson 4800.

    Thanks.  I searched there and found what might be a workaround. I think this is simply a bug in CS5. If (as indicated in posts revealed by searching the forum you linked me to) I temporarily change Printer Manages Color to Photoshop Manages Color in the PS window, I can then access Print Settings again to make changes, Save and then change Photoshop Manages Color back to Printer Manages Color.
    Go figure.

    You need to put your dsl modem into bridge mode. Then enter your PPPoE settings into the router. You might have to powercycle (unplug power for 30seconds) your modem when connecting diifferent devices to it. You said that  you can't connect to the router @ 192.168.2.1 ?
    You can use this as a guide after you put the modem into bridge mode.

    If you are talking about the restrictions Passcode - there is no way to reset it. You have to restore the decide to factory settings. If you restore from a backup, and the Passcode is in the backup, that will not work since you will be restoring the Passcode that you cannot remember back onto the device.
    The only thing that would work is if your backup was created before you put the Passcode on the iPad. The Passcode would not be in that backup and you could restore from that one.

    i have done the same activity ( buy a new iphone 4 -> upgrade to ios5 - > configure email) with success-
    than when i start to move the contacts from old mobile to iphone (using the microsim) i receive the same crash

    Keep in mind (and Acrobat will alert you to this fact) that protections that you set in Acrobat are enforced by all Adobe products but the 3rd-party PDF Viewers may ignore them. There are even Web sites that will strip protections that you set in Acrobat. This is not a reliable technology these days. Acrobat keeps it mostly for backward compatibility for those users who use only Adobe Acrobat/Reader.

    I believe you need to:
    1.  Go to a term and become "root"
    2.  Edit /etc/locale.gen and uncomment the local(s) you want
    3.  Save /etc/locale.gen
    4.  Run locale-gen
    That will probably fix you up.  A more experienced user will come along soon and check my instructions (I hope!).

    Hello,
    I am getting the "black rectangle" on youtube videos, and I have narrowed the cause down to my lack of hardware acceleration.  Unfortunately, despite clicking "settings" by right-clicking where the video should be, no settings dialog opens up.
    How can I access the settings dialog to turn off hardware acceleration? 
    This is using a Mac OSX Snow Leopard with the latest Adobe Flash plugin and this happens on both the latest Firefox and Chrome.

    Thanks. That allowed me to get to the font settings and realise that that wasn't the problem. It was actually Display/Resolutions, which I thought I had already checked.

  • Internet stopped working. Can't access Network Settings.

    Hi,
    So I start up my IMac G3 this morning and I can't access the Internet.
    I can't even get to the Network Settings, in System Preferences. It just frezzes up.
    Im running 10.2, but I tried upgrading to 10.3 and it keeps frezzing up.
    Everything else works fine. Any ideas, suggestions. If I try to re-install 10.2 will I have to format the drive or will it just install over the existing OS?

    Ok. I tried the Disk Permisions already and still nothing. I'll try creating a new User and let you know what happens.
    Also, I was going through my HD and deleting things to free up more space. Than I tried upgrading to 10.3. So far the upgrading is working. Not sure if that will fix my Internet connection either.
    Strange how it would'nt upgrade with 3.5 gigs but would with 7 gigs free.

  • Can't Access Router Settings via 192.168.2.1

    I have recently changed modem/routers as my connection speed was increased recently and the old modem wasn't up to the task... The previous modem/router was preconfigured and I did nothing to it, however the new one requires settings be fixed by accessing it via a browser at 192.168.2.1
    When the technician came to check my line and set up the new modem, we encountered a strange situation. Despite being connected by Ethernet cable, my machine could not access the IP address reserved for the router.
    The reply is: "Safari can’t connect to the server.
    Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.2.1/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “192.168.2.1”."
    We tried Firefox and the same happened.
    I have deactivated my firewall, rebooted, changed cables, restarted the router, got Safari to pretend to be Explorer, got the neighbor's dog to bark at it, everything except make a blood pact with the devil, and the two browsers on my machine think that 192.168.2.1 is an external address- which it isn't, and of course fails to connect.
    The technician used his laptop to configure the thing, so I can access the internet (obviously) but I must find out why I can't access the router/modem's settings, if only to find some logical reason for this illogical behavior.
    I've tried looking this issue up, and I get lots of bad wiring, wireless connection, windows proprietary shenanigans, but none that explain my situation.
    I'd appreciate it if someone could help me make sense of this.

    Your advice did the job quite nicely and it seems this is the "natural way of things," but I was totally unaware of it since my previous modems were preconfigured and I never had to muck about with subnets and such things.
    What irks me is that this is basic, bare bones information that the Tech support people should have given me right off the bat. Why do they assume I have all the right numbers input into the Ethernet or PPPoE settings? They seemed totally perplexed that I couldn't connect, and frankly so was I- since my old Mac, as decrepit as it is, is still able to kick it with the modern way of things better than most computers I work with.
    If they had asked me if I had set the right IP's in the right slots, it could have been fixed in 2 minutes.

    I'm sorry but "you should have written it down" simply isn't a good solution. Having the keys at all is a bad idea in my opinion. The keys should be stored in your account and if you authenticate with a password, it should use that key. If you can't keep your password private or secure, that's your problem. The problem with the keys is, you can't delete your account and "start over" if you so wish. What happens if your machine locks up after you sign up and you have no time to write down your key?
    You can request a new password, but can't be reminded of your key? This is nonsense. I have had no such headaches with XMarks and I'm trying to find a reason to keep using firefox sync with such an obviously user-unfriendly approach. We're humans, not machines.

  • ITunes syncs iPhone, but can't access iPhone settings

    Weird problem started a week or so ago and I can't get round it. I run iTunes, plug the iPhone in and it syncs fine. I click on my iPhone name under "Devices" in the view on the left, but the main panel of iTunes doesn't change, it stays on whatever was selected before (like Music, Apps whatever).
    This is a major problem know, as I can't access the Summary (serial number, version, options, capacity etc), Info, Music, Photos, Podcasts or Video pages etc.

    Um, I don't know how to say this any other way than I have already, so I'll say it again with emphasis and hope I get the point across...
    I click on my iPhone name under devices (iTunes source list), and the view (main iTunes window) *_doesn't change_*. It stays on whatever it was on. _*I can't see the tabs for the iPhone*_. I know how to use the tabs, but the iPhone tabs are not there - no Summary, Info, Music, Photos, Podcasts, Video... no tabs. Instead, it shows whatever was previously shown in that window, like my music library.
    I don't know if I'm allowed to link to images or attach images, but I have a picture that shows what I'm talking about if it helps http://twitpic.com/1r7vl4. I've highlighted red box on left for selecting the iPhone as a source, and the red shaded area is *_what I don't see_*.
    Perhaps it's also worth adding that I've been using my iPhone and iTunes for nearly a year, and as I said in the first post, this weird behaviour started happening not long ago. I do know how to use iTunes, I know what tabs are and that to switch tabs I select the tab , it's just not working as it should.
    So, does anyone have any idea why this problem is happening, and how I might resolve it.

    But the real question is why for the past year did the passwords work and then all of the sudden after this anomaly the disk password doesn't work?  I'm not 100% sure of what my configuration was, but I know that most of the time it required one password -- supervisor, and occasionally it asked for 2 -- disk password as well I believe.  This may have been related to the Password on Restart setting I think -- asking for the disk password on cold vs. warm boot.  But I know both were exactly the same.  But after this incident only the Supervisor password worked.
