WRT55AG can't acquire IP address

I have the router serving both wired and wireless network connected to a PPPoE DSL connnection (Verizon). The wired network is working fine and can access the internet. The wireless laptops can't. When trying to connect, they can't acquire a IP address. The Linksys setup CD and Easylink don't find the router via wired or wireless. The PPPoE connection is set up per the FAQ.

in the wired comp open internet explorer and in the address bar type
192.168.1.1 ... it may ask  u for a username n passwd ,
leave the username blank and the passwd field type admin
and once u log into the routers setup interface ... u wiill find a tab called wireless
click on tht , change the wireless ntw name to someother name n change the channel to 11
and save the settings ... this shuld moslty fix ur prob

  • Can't Acquire IP Address - Please Help!

Please help! I recently bought an aluminum macbook and despite having no problem connecting to my home network through airport, have been unable to connect to the network at the school where I teach.
We have several mac experts at my school, a mac lab, and a mac specialist at our school board, but no one has been able to help me. Here is how my most "mac literate" student describes the problem I am experiencing:
The computer cannot acquire IP address from our wireless network.
We have tried multiple logins (including one that is known to work on the network from another computer) but we still cannot get an IP address.
We are able to authenticate to the router but we cannot receive a DHCP lease regardless of settings and configuration.
The problem is not the account information. Can't be hardware because wireless works at home and in other locations. What is going on here, and how can it be fixed? Others with the new aluminum macbook at my school have not had this problem.
If I am unable to get online with this computer at work I may need to exchange it for another or abandon it altogether --which as a 20 year mac user I am loathe to do. I need online access for my job. Please, please help me figure this out

Well sounds to me like they might have MAC filtering . No, I do not mean apple macintosh but Media access control addresses. The wifi may lock down by the unique hardware address of each and every piece of netowrking equiptment.
If you are so desperate for work connectivity, why not get the static ip address information adn enter that in to see if you can connect. If you still can not after that then you need to ask the IT staff at your school for access.

  • Photosmart 7520 can't acquire IP address

I have a new Photosmart 7520 and I'm unable to connect it wirelessly to the network.  It is unable to acquire an IP address. I've tried the wizard as well as the set-up option and neither work.  The MAC filter is disabled.  Not sure what to do.

this printer has been a nightmare since I purchased it in January, I had the same problem, I struggled with it for a month before I gave in and phone HP support and they got it to connect but it took them 3 hours to do it, they promised an update
would fix the issue, have you turned on your printer to update automatically?, I got the update and it instructed me to turn off the printer so the update could take effect which I did. Could not turn it back on again so left it overnight but next morning it was the same and I had to unplug it from the wall and plug it back in again to get it to turn on. When I turned it on again I had lost my internet connection again, struggling to get it to connect again and called cloud support who set up a crazy IP address , no working printer and hung up after sending me an e mail to instruct my ISP provider how to make changes.
Called HP printer support and they got it printing again but I have lost web services, I can log in but it say's not connected to network so I have to call cloud services again. I have a 7510e photosmart printer aswell and never had all these problems.
Call HP and get them to set it up for you, I went thru 2 full sets of XL size ink cartridges and a full stack of paper, pretty expensive with the price of ink. Good luck.

  • WuSB54G can't acquire IP address

I've wirelessly connected wrt160N v3 wireless router to a machine with a wuSB54G v4 usb wireless adapter. The machine with the USB adapter appears to correctly connect to the main wireless router (wrt160N) OK, but the machine with the adapter is never able to acquire an IP address. All my setup and security settings appear correct and they are both set to acquire acquire an Ip address automatically. I am able to get an IP with another machine connected to the wrt160N with no problem. Funny thing is I've used the usb wireless with a D-link router with absolutely no problem.
Any ideas on what I'm missing?

Whats the OS installed on a computer in which you have installed WUSB54G adapter?
Whats the Wireless settings you have setup on your Router, May be you can try to lower down the security on your router and then try to connect to your wireless network.

  • I can no longer acquire IP Address in XP

I have two computers, an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Both are partitioned with Bootcamp so I can run AutoCAD. I also like to access the internet, etc while I'm in PC mode working. Both machines were fine for months, the MacBook still is. The iMac is great as a Mac, but suddenly can not acquire an IP Address as a PC with my Airport. If I hardwire it with ethernet, I can FTP updates, but I still can not visit any HTTP sites. I've tried resetting, renewing and repairing ... Any thoughts?

  • Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client 3.0.0629 constantly Acquiring IP Address with WPA-2 Personal

    Gang,
I'm trying to convert my home network over to WPA2-Personal and the Anyconnect SMC 3.0.0629 is drivng me crazy.  My desktop works fine.  My iPhone 4 works fine.
The SMC actually works, but it's constantly "Acquiring IP Address."  However, the host actually HAS an IP Address.  An IPCONFIG /ALL confirms that the host has an address.  In fact, Internet access is fine.  I'm using it now to compose this post.  The problem is the constant "Acquiring IP Address" because every few minutes the SMC pops up "Connected to.." followed by my SSID.  Pretty distracting.
If I change nothing else and just connect to my neighbors access point that uses WEP, it works fine.  If I connect to some random open access point in my neighborhood that's wide open, again it works fine.  The problem seems to be limited to WPA-2.  I even set a static IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateways and when using WPA-2 the SMC will still constantly display "Acquiring IP Address" when clearly it doesn't need to.
If you have any ideas, it would greatly appreciate some feedback.
    Thanks!

This just repeats over and over.  192.168.1.102 is exactly the address it should be using and IPCONFIG /ALL confirms it.  It just keeps repeating this loop over and over....
    Further diagnosis:
I went into the Wireless Network Connection properties  and unbound the "Cisco AnyConnect Network Access Manager Filter Driver" from the stack.  I then went over and selected my SSID and entered the WPA-2 Personal key from the native Windows applet and everything started working just fine.  I can even VPN into work using the Cisco ASM Client utility, it just doesn't show the available wirless networks anymore.  I have to use the native Windows applet for that now.
So I guess this is a workaround but it sure looks to me like the Cisco client has a problem knowing it has a valid IP Address when using a WPA encryption protocol.

  • Cant Acquire IP address

I recently reset my WRT54g wireless router in order to reset the forgotten password and now I try to connect but no IP address can be acquired from my wireless devices. I set everything up to be automatic and did nothing manually. Any suggestions?

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically.
If you still have trouble, in the computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see if that helps.
Also, if you are using encryption, note the following:
For WEP, you must enter WEP "key 1"  (you can find this in the router) into your computer, not the WEP password or passphrase.
For WPA or WPA2, enter the key (sometimes called password or passphrase) into your computer.

  • T42P Wireless Stopped Working - can't aquire network address

    Hi,
I have a T42P which has run wireless for years with no problems. All of a sudden it stopped working. It has a very good signal strength but hangs when "acquiring a network address"
I have updated the driver for the Intel PRO LAN 2100 3B to 1.2.5.37. I am running XP SP3.
I have 3 other wifi devices that connect to the network without any issues
    Any help gratefully received
    thx

This worked for me, quoting from an earlier post of mine. My T60 was stuck in perpetually "acquiring network address" (wired or wireless) If that is your problem try this:
I think I may have found the fix. According to microsoft the problem can arise when winsock gets corrupted, either as part of a service pack upgrade or when NORTON is uninstalled.
The fix can be found at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259#FixItForMeAlways
on that page you will find a section titled "fix irtfor me" This will rewrite your winsock file. So far it seems to have worked
    Cross you fingers.
You can see if this is the problem by going
    control panel
    adminstrative tools
    component services
    services local
and then manually start DHCP CLIENT (and if needed) WIRELESS ZERO CONFIGURATION
You should be ablre to connect then

  • WRT54G - cannot acquire network address

    Hi All,
I having a particularly difficult problem I have not been able to solve. I've searched linksys forums, compaq forums, and google in general. Here are the particulars:
    EQUIPMENT:
    Linksys WRT54G Ver 3 router
    Compaq Presario V2000 laptop
    with Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN (built-in)
    PROBLEM:
When attempting to connect wireless to the 54G v3, an IP is never successfully acquired from the DHCP. It fails during the "acquiring network address" phase, and returns with "limited or no connectivity". IP acquisition failure is confirmed with an IPconfig address of 169.254.x.x (APIPA).
    CONFIGURATION:
    1. this is a new installation (laptop & router are clean, out-of-box)
    2. Vanilla parameters on WRT54G (no security, etc.)
    3. Upgrade firmware (on 54G), run factory reset to default parameters, assigned a SSID = sully
    THINGS TRIED:
    1. Compaq works FINE when connected wireless to another router (54G ver 2).
    2. A different laptop (Dell) works fine with the Ver 3 router (wireless).
    3. Wired connection works fine with Compaq to Ver 3 router.
    4. Upgraded firmware on 54G ver 3 to current.
    5. Download & re-install broadcom drivers from Compaq (which are actually OLDER than the ones originally on the machine)
    6. Tried adjusting beacon, fragmentation & RTS as per a posting elswhere on this site.
    7. Tried MS patch KB884020, as per a posting elsewhere on this site (and have since backed it out).
    8. Tried resetting the TCP/IP stack as per MS KB299357 & KB811259.
I'm stumped and apparently so are all the standard tech support channels.
    Any Ideas?
PLEASE (I don't mean to be arrogant - just frustrated with inadequate/incompetent support) - don't send me the "canned" newbie "try this" responses. EVERYTHING has been tried and this simply makes no sense. I appears to me to be a problem specific to compaq/broadcom & linksys 54G ver3 and no one wants to take ownership of the problem.

I have exactly the same problem with same laptop Compaq Presario V2000 with the same network adapter, although I'm using a different router BEFW11S4.  I was able to get connection by using an static IP and DNS address, however I can't go online. Tech support hasn't been able to help me so I wanted to know if you were able to get a solution to your problem.
By the way, I can use my laptop with a Netgear router and I don't get this problem.
    Thanks

Or is it possible to transfer the purchases (apps) to my new .me account so that I can re-download them in the future without having to switch accounts?

You can't do this, and you can't transfer purchases between accounts. There is no conflict about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (the ID you've been using for iTunes) and using the other ID for iCloud.

  • My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet".How can I change ip address?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • Can I have two address books on one computer

    Hi,
I have my standard address book I use and love. I am an artist and forever having to make slide labels. I have used many programs and databases to do this task. To my surprise address book would accomplish this amazing well. I just don't want to combine my art label information with my address stuff? So can I have two address files on one mac?
    cc

    CC,
you can add a new user account on your Mac (open system preferences / accounts) and start fresh there with an empty AddressBook.
If you want to fill this with a part of your original AB, select those and export as vCards. Drop this export file in your shared folder so you can access that from the new user account. Open AB ther and import the vCards

While in the Address Book press the Menu and than Options. Just type in RSET
(capital letters) and you'll be able to wipe out all your Desktops where the
Wireless synchronization is Not available. You can keep intact the last Desktop
where the Wireless Synchronization is Yes.

  • How can I print an address card?

    Hi Folks,
I've just discovered what seems like a ridiculous limitation of Address Book. I am having a hard time believing this is so, and am sure there must be a way to do this.
I need to print out an address card, as it appears in the Address Book. I want all info, including the notes.
I can't find a way to do it. I figured out I can print a list, an envelope layout, an address card (with some info), and perhaps one other option.
Would someone kindly tell me how I can simply print an address book card? It won't even let me select a whole card for copy/paste to elsewhere for printing.
For now I have resorted to copying the card from Google Contacts, to which I have Address Book sync'ed. I then pasted that data into a new email and printed the email (in Mail). I could have used Word, etc..
Is there an easier way? If not from within Mac, is there a small app that makes the data in my address book more readily converted into ink and paper? I have looked on Google for the past 25 minutes and found nothing.
    Any tips greatly appreciated.
    With thanks,
    Jonathan

    Thanks TeenTitan,
I had not realised the List style would allow all that.
This works. The layout is not ideal because it puts everything into columns across the page, but it is better than nothing... and easier than going via my Google Contacts sync.
Are these styles editable? Is there a template hiding away somewhere in the far reaches of my OS that I could fiddle with to change the layout or make a new style? Would love to know.
    Cheers,
    Jonathan
