WRT610N - Connections slows - must Release/Renew IP???? Help - Also with WRT310N

Hello!
Here is a problem summary:  I just replaced my old WRT4G with a new WRT610N.   This never happened with my WRT54G.  At reboot of the WRT610N - I get ~6.2mbps (DSL) download speed like I have always gotten on my old router and this is the speed I'm paying for.  After 24 hours - I only get ~ 4 mbps download and after 48 hours it usually down to about 1.8 mbps......the problem is solved by going into the 610's Status Page and Releasing then Renewing the IP......it's better again and back to 6.2 for another 24 hours or so.......I also had a 310n that did the same thing and I returned it for the 610n only to have the exact same problem.....
Details:
CAT 6 Cable
Mounted vertically for better heat control
- When it slowed down - I have a fan configured to cool it - cooled it so that everything was cool - not even warm to the touch - nothing changed and actually got worse - so heat doesn't seem to be an issue...
- Primarily using 2 Wired connections and occasional wireless - but primarily this is over wired connections....
- Firmware is most recent firmware as that is the way it came out of the box with the most recent firmware already installed
- Had the exact same issue with the WRT310N
- I've debugged it to the IP release/renew fixing it.......My connection comes through a Actiontec Qwest DSL modem/router but never had this problem with the WRT54G - nothing has changed there, same setup.
- When it was slow - I bypassed the 610nand and speeds were normal - hooked it back through the router and slow until I release/renew the IP....
This is really weired and frustrating......If I can't fix it soon - I'll have to switch to another brand.....the only work around I can see is a daily release/renew - but I don't seen any programming for that feature.....
Thoughts!!!!   THANKS!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've already tried that and I'm at 1300 now.....also did the ping test and had it set at 1352.....but no differences....  I chated with Linksys yesterday and they told me take it back to the store and get another one.....  That won't solve this problem because I think it is a problem that linksys is simply ignoring as an issue....to have 2 routers do the same thing and both routers to be bad.....that tells me they have a problem in quality control or they don't know what's wrong......   I have one more work around I'm going to try which is to move over my dsl modem and let the linksys act as the modem.......my neighbor has it that way and his seems to work better.....we'll see....!   I'm not hold much hope and I'll probably end up returning it and just use my old G router or try another brand......

  • Treo 680 Camera update released by Palm helps greatly with battery life

If you have not installed this update yet, it is HIGHLY recommended that you do so. It is located:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo/680cameraupdate.html
And is for *ALL* Treo 680 users.
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Sprint)

Folks from Palm do monitor THESE forums especially, and there is a way that us moderators can bring things to their attention here now (unlike the older forums).
The problem here, as I see it (and yes, I have both my 700p and a 680) is that in order to make a thin, GSM phone to sell for $199, they used a smaller battery:
1800mAh(top) vs 1200mAh(bottom) battery, which translates into less battery life (33% with the basic same underlying functionality). And for folks that use the heck out of them (points to self) this will not be enough. So... I charge more often, and have a spare that I keep in the cradle, charged. And I do the meat of my email on the 700p (which also gets charged daily and on heavy email days twice a day; or plugged into the USB port, see tips below).
Palm has given tips on extending this as much as possible (turn off BT, minimal timeout, etc, etc) but basically its a tiny battery. Add to this fact that GSM radios tend to draw more power and UGH... bad battery life. Folks that use the heck out of a phone will not be happy (nor would they be happy if they were doing the same things on say, the new sexy tiny BLahzor or whatever its called, and yes.... That battery is even smaller).
I'd also like to note that Cingular (or any carrier) won't sell a product that didn't meet their minimum requirements, ie talk time, standby, etc.
There is a third party company making a larger battery, and I'd expect as battery technology gets better we'll see replacements that work even better. However I doubt you'll see a tiny battery on a used a lot device ever have "good" battery life.
One final set tips: get a HS cable when you're near your computer and plug in the phone... even a quick 30 min trickle charge will keep you going longer. Get a car charger, or an extra battery and cradle. If you are using Email, set the auto sync frequency longer than 5 mins: 15 mins vs 5 means that your radio is on up to 66% less with respect to data traffic.
To close, I'm sure if Palm discovers anything they can do to extend the battery life on the 680's, they will pass that along....

  • WRT610N connection speeds

I have V2 with the latest firmware on my WRT610N.  It keeps losing internet connection speeds.  Sometimes an IP release/renew will fix it.  If it does, It will be ok for a day and then it goes back down to 1.0 mbps.  I've tried a couple things I've found in this forum like turning off upnp and restarting but that hasn't helped.  Maybe I didn't do it right though.  Any ideas?  Please help!!

I have seen this as well.  This only seems to be a wired connection issue as I read others with the same complaints on this board.  I have a WRT610N v.2.  I have a new Alienware Area 51 ALX (fast) and I upgraded to this gigabit router.  I can actually track the slowdown using www.speedtest.net from almost 15 down to about 3 in the course of a day.  A router reboot returns the speed.  I also posted an issue with with a wired connection to my PS3 losing UPnP availability.  The fix for that was a reflashing of the firmware, but it seems that the only thing I would have needed to do is reboot the router as it showed up as unavailable again and I rebooted to router and it is available again.
I have sent this to Linksys tech support as well.  With as many people having this issue I hope they are already aware.
there appears to be a fix using a third party firmware update dd-wrt.  But I am not going that route just yet.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I try to connect to iTunes and it comes up with a box saying "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode. you must enter your code on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes", but i cant enter the code on the iPad because it is saying "connect to iTunes". Can anybody help?? It is on the new iPad.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

    Hi anudeep reddy,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPad is disabled due to the passcode. You can restore the iPad back to its original settings by placing it in recovery mode. Please use the following article as a reference and follow the steps within it to restore using recovery mode.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    Use recovery mode
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
              5.  Use iTunes to restore your device.
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.
    Have a great day,
    -Joe

  • DB connection pooling to remote server, pls help!

    Hi guys,
I really need help with this and I am not exactly the most experienced developer.
I have a java application which connects to a remote MS SQL server using the connection pooling object model described in Sun docs at:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/JDCBook/conpool.html
I am Using the 'sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver' driver.
In the client class (DAO) in a      static {  try{} } block I create the JDCConnectionDriver and JDCConnectionPool. Then in the constructor of this class I instantiate the connection object, which I use through out the class.
This class is instantiated multiple times in the lifetime of the application( thus the static block for the connection pool).
It all works great if the SQL server is on the same machine. But as soon as I change the ODBC connection to a remote server, my application does not seem to release the connections. After several hundred instantiations of the client DAO class there are so many ports taken (live connections) on my server that it affects other applications.
Does the garbage collector fail or does it fail when it works with the MS ODBC driver with remote connection?
I debuged and debuged both with local sql and remote -- the workflow seems the same.
Has anybody out there faced the same problem? What am I doing wrong? How can I resolve this?
    You help is greatly appriciated!
    Stan

I am using the datasource very heavely, but I am sure
the closing/releasing is ok. If the sql server is on
the same machine, it all works flawlessly. Only when
sql is remote I see unclosed connections, which pile
up as I am creating more and more.
Any suggestion?Your description seems to indicate that you are not actually closing the connections by calling the close() method. Make sure that you close the connection when the task at hand is finished. Closing only makes the connection in the pool available again.
Also, if you are using datasource heavily, you should be attempting to minimize the lookups. JNDI lookups are relatively slow.

I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help?  thanks

Just need to plug the TC in to the hub in bridge mode.. do not try and bridge the homehub.. it is not possible with the setup BT uses.
To bridge the TC.. plug it directly into a computer by ethernet.. no other connection to the TC or the computer.
Press and hold in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
    Release the reset.
Open the airport utility and setup the TC to bridge mode.
The actual method depends on version of the OS and airport utility you use.
    This is version 5.
Sorry I cannot post the v6 as I am on a snow leopard computer now. But you go to the network tab, and choose off bridge mode for method of connection. It will be NAT and dhcp by default.
Then setup wireless.. you have a number of choices here.
Either setup with the same SSID Security and password, as the homehub uses.. or a different name, and password..
Each method works fine.. but you sometimes have issues with wireless channels.. for now leave it on auto and see what happens.. if you have issues lock down the radio channels on both devices.. use one out of the following on each, 1, 6, 11 or 13 in UK.. so say 6 on the homehub then 13 onthe TC.
Update the TC.. unplug fromt the computer and plug it into the homehub.
If you have other issues with the setup tell us what OS you run so we can post suitable screenshots.

    Hi,
For no apparent reason my phone stopped working...so I did a reset and got the message 'Restore Needed'. I connected to iTunes and got this message: 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on your iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'.
The problem is, I can't enter my passcode because I'm not given that option on the iPhone. All I seem to be able to do is make an emergency call.
It's been working fine otherwise. Any suggestions?
This is the SECOND replacement iPhone I've had this week and I'm getting a bit fed up.
Thanks in advance for any help,

Are you referring to the 4 digit passcode needed to enter the phone and use it's features?
If so reboot your iPhone and enter the passcode to get it operational.  Launch Image Capture on the Mac and connect the iPhone.  Now you should be able to download the video files to wherever you want on your hard drive.

  • Help for with slow, glitchy (late 2012) iMac

This is an ANSWER and not a request for help.  I didn't know where to post this and apologize for stepping where I shouldn't.
I have a Late 2012 iMac that has been crashing, running slow, and now worse;  all my documents and everything in Finder have disappeared.  I discovered a fix that may help others with similar issues.  I use my iMac for use with Logic Pro X and Mainstage where freezeups are a disaster.  I thought about this awhile and realized I had installed a new USB 3.0 external hard disk a few months ago when this issue began. I began to experience more and more crashes and extremely slow performance.  Beach-balls and slow performance were common.  But the last straw was when everything in Finder disappeared.  My Document and Application folders were empty.  If I clicked on "About This Mac" I saw nothing.    It took two tries to prove my theory, but here's what I did to make "the fix".  I unplugged the USB 3.0 drive and all USB and external devices.  I did a restore of OSX Mt Lion.  All was back to normal.  But after plugging in the USB 3.0 drive, all the afore mentioned problems came back.  I did one more restore, this time NOT connecting the USB 3.0 external hard disk.  Now I have gone some time and my iMac's speed is back to "incredible", no beach balls or any sign of slow performance in recording or running any other app.  Apparently, the 2012 iMac; although spec'ed to be USB 3.0 compatible, may not be all that compatible. Hope this helps someone!

Likely the external drive is bad or defective cable.
