X-Fi XtremeMusic: Linux beta driver crashes on kernel 2.6

First i uninstalled the X-Fi drivers, then i updated my kernel to version 2.6.26 and did a new install of X-Fi drivers. Installation was successful, but while booting i get some oops messages. Is it possible for me to fix this?
And how long i have to wait for the next driver release? Audio recordings sounds a bit tinny and i'm missing a ruler to control the capture valume. Without that it is not very useful to make recordings. Last driver release was on 6.4.2008 and the X-Fi is on market since 2005. Is Creative sleeping?
Now the Oops message:

  • Nvidia-Beta drivers crash with Kernel 3.18.2

After the upgrade to kernel 3.18.2 I recompiled the NVIDIA-Beta drivers to discover that crashes in the kernel.  Has anyone got any ideas on how to rectify this issue or have had similar problems?

    ok, that worked.
but my x server will not start after downgrading linux kernel, nvidia and nvidia-utils. oO
looks like the known problem with the kernel and nvidia freeze. are there more packages that i have to downgrade?

  • [Partly solved] Nouveau driver crashes, nvidia-libgl-beta problem etc.

I had the same issue as in thread 1446984 but disabling USB 3.0 in BIOS did not solve the problem.
I have a new install, and are getting complete freezes on shutdown, but also on switching to another tty than the graphical (freeze after 1-20 seconds after switching tty). This is reproducible 100% of the time.
I were also getting errors about nouveau, and thought the tty switching freezes might be related to that.
This was correct, since installing the nvidia-beta driver solved that problem (but not the shutdown issues).
As a side note, I also had some minor problems installing nvidia-libgl-beta which is a dependency for nvidia-beta.
Trying to install it with aura gave the following error:
    $ sudo aura -A nvidia-libgl-beta
    [sudo] password for rix:
aura >>= The following are not AUR packages:
    nvidia-libgl-beta
aura >>= No valid packages specified.
Installing it manually from the tarball in AUR seemed to work, but when I tried to install nvidia-beta it complained about nvidia-libgl-beta missing, and it's not in the output of pacman -Q !
Trying to reinstall it works as well, and pacman says it is reinstalling with net upgrade size 0.
I removed nvidia-libgl-beta as a dependency from the nvidia-beta PKGBUILD and installed it, it seems to work at least, no more tty switch crashes.
Also, after installing there is no nvidia*.pkg.tar.xz files in /var/cache/pacman/pkg/. Maybe these are put somewhere else?
dmesg (includes nouveau errors but it's the "ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x000000000000f040-0x000000000000f05f conflicts with OpRegion ..." line I believe is the interesting one):

  • My hard drive crashed and I lost Firefox beta4.11. Where do I find a link to download beta 4.12?

I was using and communicating back re: Firefox beta 4.11, until my hard drive crashed. Now I don't see a link to download beta. Please post a link to download the current beta (4.12?).

The latest version is Firefox 4 release candidate 1, this is available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/RC

  • GT70 0nc GTX 670MX Driver Crashes, and BAD performance.

I purchased a gt70 ONC 494US and at first I updated all drivers and software on win 8 x64, I tried running multiple games off of steam and none of them were running smoothly, some of them not at all, (borderlands 2, arma II, fallout 3.....) I installed an SSD and a fresh version of win 7 64 ultimate, used only drivers from MSI, and still had crashes and couldn't even run a benchmark.
The only solution I have found to run a select few games, is by uninstalling ALL nvidia software and drivers, using windows default VGA drivers for the 670mx, however, this only works for a few games, and some others won't start because they don't find a capable GPU.
I have read MANY forums, most of them go through the typical, use the nvidia control panel to change the power settings, global settings, and roll back drivers to the originals. NONE of this made any difference.
I have read that there is a firmware beta ec flash? But, even the tech forum from MSI the link didn't go anywhere. I know this is a common problem, and especially with steam games. Yes, the power light turns orange, and i turn on turbo mode, I also turned on the indicator showing the nvidia gpu is being used, but games will not get past the title screen if they start at all, and the nvidia driver crashes.
    Help?

Currently I am trying the new 340.52, before this I had reset to FACTORY image with the original OEM drivers, 306.14 (I believe). For the intel, again I started with the OEM hd 4000 drivers, currently I have the may 2014 drivers, 10.18.10.3621. Before hand, no there was no error, just a frozen game I had to kill with task manager, now I am getting the error that the vram is full. Using GPU-z I see that the dedicated vram isn't even being used. Ideas?
For the BIOS, EC firmware update, you can find them under the download page of MSI.

For the game settings GeForce Experience provides, I wouldn't say it's an optimized setting but the settings only for your references.
Since the tested game environment and system configurations might be different, I'd go for my own settings in order to find the best gaming experience.
Like BlueAlexFPS said, the GTX670M has similar performance as GTX765M, it would be ridiculous to have the same performance like GTX780M. If what you said is true, then why they are they putting 780M out on the market?
I'd keep the graphics driver from MSI website, since a windows generic driver could gives you only the basic level graphics performance and not to mention without the Optimus, you wouldn't know if which graphics it's running.
*Make sure you're having battery and AC adapter both plugged while running the games.

  • I recently had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall PS. Now it doesn't work right.

I recently had a hard drive crash. I replaced the C: drive with a solid state and now have 3 internal HDs. C: for the OS (Windows 7), D: for data and P: for program installation. Because I replaced the C: drive, I had to re-install all my programs. Now, PhotoShop will not let me place text, inserting the text tool causes the program to stop responding. In InDesign, if I try to place a MS Word document, it acts as if I never did that action and I can't get it placed.
I can copy and paste, but doing so makes the formatting get left behind. I suspect it may not have installed correctly. I've used Adobe products since 1991 and never had this happen before. I even used Aldus PageMaker before the Suites were available. Can anyone help? Is it a reinstallation issue?
I use PhotoTools from OnOne and if I uninstall it to reinstall CS4, I'm afraid it will no longer honor my product key.
I will not give up until this work like it used to. I'm too old to upgrade.

The faulty HD was replaced with a solid state one and that works fine. The fan that caused the errors on the old HD was removed. The system is probably not an issue since I had to reinstall my Windows 7 and it was the only thing installed on the C: drive. I have another drive that I run programs from and one other that I use only for data. Plus a backup drive. The BIOS was reset. The only remaining problems I have are trying to find the software for the web cam driver and I think I will just download it again and my problem with PhotoShop and InDesign. Those two are the sticky ones,I depend on those programs. They work, even my PhotoTools plugin works. The only problems seem to be using the type tool in PS and placing MS Word documents (.docs and .docxs) I think the program must not have installed correctly but I'm afraid if I reinstall it, it might be worse and then I might have to reinstall PhotoTools. That would require calling the company again because when I reinstalled it the last time, it said that it couldn't accept the product #, it had been used before. Yeah, by me. I called them and they gave me a new number, but I don't know if they will be happy if I do that again. So, my best bet is to see if I can fix those two functions. Thank you for your response. let me know if you have anything to add. I appreciate your time.

My old hard drive crashed and had to get it replaced. How do I reinstall my old library to the new hard drive from my iphone4s so I don't lose my music?

Officially you don't. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
Note: The information below hasn't been updated since early 2013.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Comp. hard drive crash-How to start using new comp. w/o losing ipod data

I had a hard drive crash on my old laptop. Unfortunately, I didn't have any backup of any of my iPod data. I had purchased 2 videos and 3 songs. Not a huge loss there, but I also had imported about 150 CDs that I don't care to burn again.
Ideally, I'd like to get my new laptop loaded with all the data from my iPod, but I've heard I can't do that. At a minimum, I'd like to get my iPod synching with my iTunes library on the new laptop without losing all the data I've already placed on it.
Each time I try and switch back to automatic, it tells me that it will replace all the data on my laptop.
Any advice on how to proceed, and any way to get the data back on my laptop's iTunes library from my iPod?
5th gen iPod using iTunes 6.0.1.3 on Windows 2000
    Thanks.

    Gordon,
There's a solution to your problem but first it's time for a little lecture. (If it makes you feel any better, I don't like this any more than you do.)
I hope you take this as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, you will want to include your iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.
Anyways, that's the lecture. The answer to your problem should be found in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797432#797432
Good Luck! But once your music is back on your computer, remember:
Your music is valuable - please back it up!

    The sound is excellent !
kpo6969, why would you wan't to install over existing drivers ?
Better to uninstall existing drivers first, then install the beta's as this?should avoid any conflicts.

  • Hard Drive Crashed and Ended Up with older iphoto- Library wont transfer

I have been using my macbook for two years now and have used iphoto since I got it to start saving all my pictures (some 6 to 7 thousand pictures) though I never did check what version it was. I had made a back up of my iPhoto Library and good thing I did because my hard drive crashed.
I had kept all my photos organized by Events, rather than dates and such because I scanned photos in here and there as well. However, after I had my new operating system installed, I plugged in my external drive to transfer my iPhoto library into iPhoto (by clicking on the iphoto icon while holding option/shift to choose a library) but it came up with an arrow message saying that I needed a new version of iPhoto for it to work. Sure enough, when I just let iPhoto open up with a new library it would not in any way let me sort photos by events, just by year.
I tried reinstalling iPhoto with the original disks my macbook came with and even downloaded an update. This may not seem like a huge problem because thankfully i still have all my pictures but they are all over the place and organizing all of the pictures again would take a ton of time.
I do not get how I started with a newer version of iPhoto that let me organize my photos by events compared to the one I have now that came on my installation disk. I dont want to pay for a new copy of iPhoto if my macbook already came with it installed when I first bought it but I want my Library and its Events and albums to work (which it does because I tried it on a newer macbook) Any ideas? Thanks

Okay Sory about that. Here is the problem- i think- When I bought my laptop in May of 2007, the iPhoto that came preinstalled was a better version than the one that came on my Mac OS X install disk that I now have to use since my hard drive crashed.
In iPhoto 6, you can not sort photos by Events, only by date. In iPhoto 7.1 you can because when I tried opening my library on another computer with that version of iPhoto by holding down option/shift and choosing my library from my external drive, it worked since all my named events showed up.
I never bought an update for iLife, nor did I ever have my computer worked on. I only downloaded the free updatess for my specific version from the internet, what ever version it was.
I have always been able to sort my pictures by Events because when I bought my macbook, I immediately put pictures on it (my Library can prove that). I really do not want to buy the iLife 08' if I had already had the better version of iPhoto on my computer before it crashed.
I guess, is it possible that I did have iPhoto 7.something installed on my computer when I bought it (or at least an iPhoto that can sort pictures by events, since that is the main problem) and have an older version on the install disk it came with? That is the only conclusion I can reach.
    Thank you for your help.

I was not able to transfer my music however before my harddrive crashed and if i try to sinc it with my new computer i am going to lose all my music that i want on my new computer that i only have on my ipod currently. Is there anyway to transfer it with it still in Mac mode or do i have to find someone with a Mac?

A Windows system cannot read a Mac-formatted iPod without third-party software, so you'll either have to find someone with a Mac to help you get your tracks off of the iPod, or you'll need to buy this:

  • Can't import backed up address book after hard drive crash

I had a hard drive crash that sent my G5 into the shop. In the mean time I used my laptop and added info to address book, then transferred that info onto the new hard drive on the G5 when I got it back from the shop. So now I have a current address book and an older backed up copy on another drive. If I try to import the backed up info in address book, it tells me it will overwrite the current version. I want to keep the addresses that I added while my Mac was in the shop and ADD (not overwrite) the addresses from the backed-up copy. How can I do this? Thanks so much!
    Dan

Opening a backup will always overwrite the existing data. I'll try to explain my solution better:
You have your Address Book data and your backup. You want to combine them, but Address Book can only use one or the other. Combining them implies that you'll use an export-and-reimport sequence.
To export your existing data, select the All group. Go to the names column and select them all with the Cmd-A shortcut. Drag that column to the desktop to make a vCard that contains all of your contacts.
Now the copy of your current address data is on your desktop, so the copy in the Address Book application can be overwritten. Read in the backup to bring the backup contacts into Address Book. The other collection of your contacts is the vCard on your desktop, so drag that in and it will be imported without overwriting the existing data (but it will be merged in if there are duplicate cards).

  • HELP"apple application support not found when installing itunes after a hard drive crash and replace

HELP"   error "apple application support not found" when downloading itunes after a hard drive crash and replacement????

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Spotify only displays black screen after video driver crashes

Using Windows 8.1 64x, AMD 7800 series card with the latest AMD 15.4 beta drivers. This driver release is prone to crashing. Spotify, though, doesn't recover after the driver crashes and only displays a black screen. Restarting the program fixes the problem, but it shouldn't have to be restarted in the first place.

I am so sorry to hear this, was it after an ad, i should be able to help, could you also tell me which country you are based in!
