X shuts down and reboots

Has anyone experienced the phone shutting down and rebooting. I can have my phone sitting next to me and it will go to a black screen and the eye pops up and reboots.

Rebooting of the DX was the major point why I returned that phone.
I had my DX for 4 days and it was rebooting constantly, about 7 - 9 times a day.
VZ tech told me that it is a known issue with DX and therefore I returned it thinking to get Incredible.
However, my brother-in-law that has Incredible and his phone reboots too (though not as often as my DX). That makes me thinking what if problem is not a phone (Droid X) in particular, rather than Moto Blur skin or Android OS in general.
I was reading that rebooting may in fact be related to Advance Task Killer if it is being set to Auto-Kill mode as it could be killing some running processes which are required by OS.If Auto-Kill is disabled and applications are being killed manually it should resolve reboot problem.
DX hardware has 512 MB of RAM but in my case I was ending up with less than 50 MB (less than 10%) of RAM only after an hour of phone just sitting there without single application being touched by myself. I understand that about 200 MB is being used by OS and another 100 MB is being used by all essential subprocesses (Moto Blur) but that should leave me with 200 MB of RAM not 50. Those little pesky bloatware programs that VZ forces on you should be either disabled, uninstalled, or not being loaded into memory constantly.
In regards to controversy of needed or not Advance task killer, I am personally felling that I needed that just to kill all of the bloatware that VZ placed on that phone and which is being loaded constantly into memory. So as far as I am concern, issue with reboot is all VZ fault and that is why this is a "known issue" for them.

  • Shutting down and rebooting from xfce4 (SOLVED)

I am wanting to shut down and reboot my system via xfce4. right now the two buttons are grayed out. I tried added myself to the power group by doing
    gpasswd -a username power
That didn't seem to do anything at all. On the wiki, it talks about using dbus and hal (as an alternative to doing the sudo method) but i already have dbus and hal started by default and the two buttons are still grayed out.
if there is already a message like this please guide me there. Any help would be appreciated.
CORRECTION: adding myself to the "power" group did work.

Strange - I used the sudo-hack and it worked for me. But after it stopped working, I saw the new instructions and enabled both hal and dbus and voila, everything worked.
I did not add myself to the sys-group, so it should be something else. Did you install the whole xfce4-package or did you select certain packages? check if '# /etc/rc.d/hal restart' and '# /etc/rc.d/dbus restart' change anything...
    Zl.
Fyi: i installed xfce4 and xfce4-goodies. I'll try your codes now.

Searching the forum before posting is a good idea. This subject has been covered ad nauseum
Bottom line: Uninstall the Google Maps update by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Maps and hitting the Uninstall Updates button.
There is a bug in the GPS driver.  Lenovo claims to be working on it.  Do not install the maps update until Lenovo fixes it.

Because there is something wrong with the iPad? Try restoring the device with iTunes. Start with that.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • I have ipad mini 2 updated to ios 7.1.2.  Now ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo. I factory reset and redownloaded software in recovery mode.  Still happening.  What else can I do?

I have ipad mini 32gb.  I updated to IOS 7.1.2. Since then ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo.  It happens so many times I cannot use the ipad.   I have tried factory reset and reinstalled software in recovery mode. Ipad is only 1 1/2 years old and in great condition.  Is there anything else I can do besides soend $200 to fix it?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me going by the CRC error you mentioned. I'd make a Genius Bar reservation (you'll need your Apple ID) if you have a nearby Apple Store and get it evaluated. The evaluation is free but repair/replacement could incur other charges.

  • Shut down and Reboot problems

    Hi All
I hope I can find help for my problem as it is getting really frustrating. I have Lenovo X230 tablet which used to run fine until it suddenly will not shut down or reboot. The screen will turn black however the small led lights on power and other button
will remain on and the the laptop will remain like this until I press the power button to physically shut it down. When I tried to restore the system to an earlier point, the laptop will not reboot and I had to press the button again to shut it down and then
power it up. It showed after that reboot was successful but to no avail. I tried to reboot it to even an earlier point (still I had to manually reboot it) but it failed. All drivers are up to date and I always install Windows updates as soon as they are out.
Still I have to push the power button when I install new windows updates when reboot is required because the screen will go black as I already mentioned with the power still on. I do hope to get helo with this.
    Thank you
    Qas

    Hi,
As this problem occures with no symptoms, in my opinion, it would be better to make system restore to revert your system to a former normal time point for test.
If the problem persists after system resotre successfully, it would be better to contact Lenovo support to check Hardware problem.

I had the same thing happen to my phone, I called tech support and nothing they did could fix the device over the phone. I ended up having to bring it to a store to get fixed.

  • Have new iMac osx 2.5 intel and a few times now when in mail it starts to lag, rainbow spins and things go awry. Have to shut down and reboot to get it back to normal. Also a sender rang to say his email to me had been opened 140 times.....whats that???!!

Have new imac 2.5 mid 2011 OS X and macmail has a few times started to lag.....slow to accept writing and the rainbow spins and seems to stop it. have to shut down to get it back to normal. Very frustrating when in the middle of a message. Any ideas whats wrong ....whats happening...how to fix...Also a sender rang me to see if I forwarded their email on, and said that particular email had been opened 140 times.......I did not send on....any ideas about that one also.
    Cheers Rhonda

Rhonda you Force Quit and app by click the Apple symbol in the upper left and selecting Force Quit... and then select the app that isn't responding and Force Quit it.
I'm not sure what is wrong with your Mail system but I'd recommend starting over with it. You can find out how in Mail Setup, Troubleshooting etc... If you still have trouble then contact AppleCare,  you have 90 days of free phone service with AppleCare......why not use it?

  • How to stop my ipad shutting down and rebooting every few minutes

My iPad G1 consistently closes down every few minutes and reboots even if just sitting idle on Home Page. How can I stop it PLEASE??????

Try Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  If that doesn't help, you may well have a hardware problem.  Sorry.

  • Sudden Shut-Downs and reboots

I've read the other threads in the discussion here and my problem might be similar, but I wanted to run it by you first and check.
I have a 6 month old G5 20"iMac Gen2. I have an external firewire drive with 4 USB 2 and 4 Firewire ports on it.
Last night I updated the Java system update, I did not reboot or repair permissions. I had mail, firefox, and itunes open and put the iMac to sleep when I went to bed last night. This morning I woke it up and it started to grab the new mail and all of a sudden the screen went black and rebooted.
It continued to reboot from black screen in various parts of the boot screen, the gray screen, the login screen, etc. I unplugged and waited for 60 seconds, I then held the power button in to restart until I heard the beep and the iMac booted into the login screen.
I then logged into my trouble account that I set up for software conflict resolutions, and it booted into it and I started to run disk utility/repair permissions. The imac rebooted half-way through the process.
I then repeated the process and this time it ran all the way through repair permissions and stayed on for 30 minutes. I logged out of that account into my personal account and it ran for another hour or so.
It's 3 hours later and is still running. Any ideas?
    iMac G5 2 Ghz, 1.5 Gigs of Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

As a follow-up.. after 2 days on the phone with Applecare support, they finally agreed it was the power supply and said they'd send me one right away. Well that was Thursday Morning. As of Sunday evening, it has yet to be sent from Apple. I can't believe they are out of them, any ideas to move this operation along a little? My iMac's been on the fritz since last Tuesday and I run my home business on it, even if they send it out Monday, it will be Tuesdasy at the earliest I'll be getting it..
If anyone has a proven method to get a part shipped out ASAP with Apple, please let me know. I guess Applecare doesn't really mean much.

  • My ipad started shutting down and rebooting itself. I haven't done any updates or anything. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

    Help

Try a forced reboot.  Press and hold BOTH the home and power buttons at the SAME time until you see the Apple Logo, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You won't lose any settings or data.
