X11 install on imac 24

Hi all,
I have just purchased the greatest machine ever in the imac 24, however, i cant get X11 installed for OO2. I have downloaded the X11user package, but when i install, the pkg manager claims there is a newer version. i have checked everywhere for this supposed X11 install without luck. I have also tried installing the X11update2006 package which claims i don't have X11 installed (and OO2 says i dont have it either). googling for hours has produced nothing. I checked on the install cd's (yes, i didnt get a DVD for some reason), and there is no X11 avail on that either. Please help!
thx!!!

also, FYI, from OO web site, OO2 did not work until this was completed:
05 November 2006
It has come to our attention that there is a problem in the latest stable release of OpenOffice.org on the Mac and the X11 Update that Apple released on 1 November 2006. The problem is related to the Vera fonts that are related to the X11 update. We have found the following solution that will require an administrator user account for each machine concerned. Please follow the following steps which will allow OpenOffice.org to run again.
1. Log in as an Administrator (if you haven't already), an Administrator account is created by default when you install Mac OS X or setup your computer for the first time.
2. Start the program called Terminal, it is located in the Utilities folder.
3. Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal window: sudo mkdir -p /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.bad
4. You will be asked for your password for the account that you are logged in under. Type it in, don't worry, your password won't be shown to the world.
5. Copy and paste the following command into the same Terminal window as above (all on one line): sudo mv /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/Vera*.ttf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.bad
6. You should now be able to start OpenOffice.org normally.
When OpenOffice.org 2.1 is released, please upgrade as it will not have an issue with this. Apple should also be releasing an updated X11 update soon with the corrected Fonts.
Please take a look at the following issues for more information: 71096.

  • HT1338 how do you perform a clean install for imac

How to perform a clean install for imac, because I cannot upgrade to version 10.6?

Here are the technical requirements for Snow Leopard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575
If your iMac meets the requirements, then you will have to purchase the Snow Leopard disk from apple:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To reinstall your OS, insert the original OS disk that came with your iMac and start up the iMac holding the C key.  Start the installation process and when you see the menu bar, select 'Utilities'. From the drop down menu, select Disk Utility.  Erase the HDD and the continue the installation.
Note that this will erase all data on the HDD so have it backed up before you start.
    Ciao.

  • Can't get Leopard to install on iMac G5

Can't get Leopard to install on iMac G5
Hi folks, I'm trying to install Leopard on my 20" iMac G5, but the install never completes. I get an error related to "essential package" failing or some such. I'm using a retail copy of Leopard.
I've read that many people have had trouble loading Leopard on the G5, but I don't now what the real problem is, or what the correct solution would be to making the install from the disc work.
I've also read that it might be a problem that the iMac G5s might not know how to read the install DVDs properly (despite the disc being verified earlier in the process).
I know the problem isn't the disc media because I have two separate retail DVDs of the Leopard installer (10.5.3). I tested them on other machines and they have worked. I even tried installing from a disc image of the installer, but no luck.
    Any ideas?

The iMac appeared to work correctly under Tiger, but it did have a problem. I had just got un-repairable error on the 4-year old drive that came with the machine. I installed a new Seagate barracuda hard drive because of. This was all before the Leopard install attempts.
Permissions were all repaired. New drive and other HDs were all verified. All devices were disconnected for install attempts. Tons of space on newly formatted drive, as well as other external drives I tried this on. So it's not the media, and it's not the hard drives.
I am using third-party RAM. Tech tool indicates that it is okay. Perhaps I should try installing with only the RAM that came with the machine.
I contacted Applecare several days ago and they said the usual. Repair disc. Repair Permissions. Try install. No good? Then try reformat from Tiger and install Leopard on clean HD. No luck. The next thing they would suggest is forwarding the issue to a specialist within applecare.

  • How do i wipe and re install my imac

im trying to wipe and re install my imac any help appreciated     i have no disc.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If your iMac didn't come with DVDs, follow these steps:
    1. Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting to start in Internet Recovery. You may need to connect the iMac to a Wi-Fi network.
    2. On the OS X Utilities window, open Disk Utility, select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
This will reinstall the original OS X version that came with the iMac. If you want to reinstall the actual version, hold Command and R keys instead of Command, Option and R keys. The reinstall may take hours because the Mac has to download OS X from the App Store

  • How can I install my iMac's Aperture on my MacBrookPro

How can I install my iMac's Aperture on my MacBrookPro

What is your MacOS X version? Is your Aperture version the recent Aperture 3.5.1? Your profile signature "Mac OS 9.1.x? " cannot be right; do you mean Mac OS 10.9.1.x? And is the system the same on both Macs?
If you bought Aperture from the AppStore, launch the AppStore on your MBP:
Sign into the AppStore  with the AppleID you used to buy Aperture on your iMac.
Download Aperture from the "Purchased" tab and let it install.
If you bought Aperture  as a boxed retail version, use the Installer CD/DVD and serial number to install Aperture  on your MBP.
If you bought Aperture online as a trial version, and bought a serial number to unlock the trial, use the trial installer you downloaded.
If you no longer should have the installation media or the downloaded trial installer, you can convert your working Aperture installation to an AppStore licence by upgrading your iMac version to Aperture 3.5.1.  Then you can install and reinstall from the AppStore on all your Macs, if they are running Mavericks.

How can I install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0, if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?  My computer has 5 vertical purple lines against white screen at startup before the Apple logo appears and the spinning gear...then everything disappears and the screen hangs on the white screen.  I have tried unplugging and removing all my peripherals and the COMMAND, OPTION, P & R set of keys and still nothing.  I have tried COMMAND C to start up from cd and it only tells me to turn off the computer and turn it back on.  I found information on Apple's Support pages regarding the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but I am unable to download and install if I can't get to the Apple menu.  Can anyone help?

You may have hardware problem, I think a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP is in order.

  • Boot camp fails on windows 8.1 install on imac 5k

I've been going around in circles with senior Apple Tech Support, and Microsoft Tech Support, and it seems there's a consensus that imac 5k's with fusion drives CANNOT INSTALL WINDOWS.
Curiously, when I first ran boot camp, it did install windows 8.1, but the install was unstable and failed after switching from 8.1 >> Yosemite >> 8.1.  I could reboot as many times as I liked within 8.1, but once I went back to Yosemite, it would kill the windows realm.
I've searched the web for options, trying to make this setup work.  The most promising option seemed to be using vmware to install windows onto a raw disk mapping, where the raw disk was a thunderbolt ssd.  These pages suggest a pretty viable path (if complicated):
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/74977/is-it-possible-to-install-and-boo t-windows-on-a-thunderbolt-drive
    http://www.vijayp.ca/blog/2011/09/attaching-a-physical-raw-disk-to-vmware-fusion -4-without-bootcamp/comment-page-1/#comment-4918
It seemed like I had the raw mapping set up - vmware could address the drive directly, set the disk size, etc.  But when I tried to install windows from there, the installer found no disks available on the virtual machine.
Apple Senior Tech Support tells me this is a known issue - but they cannot say whether engineering will ever produce a fix.  Alas, because I bought the machine through BH Photo, they will only replace the machine with an identical model -- so I've spent a pile on a machine that can't run windows natively (which was the reason for buying the machine in the first place.)
Anyone out there think of a way to make this all work?  Thanks either way.

I finally was able to get things functioning - sort of - by installing boot camp on an older iMac, then using winclone to brain-dump the install onto an external, EFI thunderbolt setup.  From there I can select that cloned bootcamp as a startup disk, and so far it appears to be a stable setup.  Eesh.

  • Installing memory (iMac mid-2011) - mixing 2gb and 4gb

    Hey!
I'm soon getting my first iMac and it comes with the stock 4gb memory. As there will be two empty slots, I'd like to install 2x4gb Kingstons to get 12gb. My question is, does it matter in which slots I put the new ones or is there a certain way it has to be done? For example, should they be like this:
    4gb    2gb
    4gb    2gb
    or
    4gb    4gb
    2gb    2gb
Thanks! I'd really appreciate any help.

    4gb    2gb
    4gb    2gb
    or
    4gb    4gb
    2gb    2gb
Absolutely the second one. They should be matched horizontally. You could also reverse the order on the second one:
    2 gb   2 gb
    4 gb   4 gb

  • Tiger Install on iMac G3/400 DV reboot problem.

Hi there, first time post .
I obtained a slot loading G3/400 DV. I replaced the 10GB that was inside it, with a 80GB. It has aproximatly 320MB of RAM and does have firewire.
I believe the CD-ROM is toast, as it will not boot of a CD when 'C' is held down. I have managed to install OS 9 onto it, by transfering a clean install of 9 via firewire and upgraded it too 9.2.2. Everything worked fine. System boots fine.. etc..
I have just bought a DVD copy of Tiger for my Cube(needed 9 before for, my UD12X12 tablet). I read it is possible to install OS X via Firewire. I held down T and all that, and put X onto the 80gb via the DVD from the cube. Now, when I reboot the iMac I get a flashing folder with a ? on it, and will not rebbot on a Option hold down.
What am I doing wrong, please help.
PS: The previous HD, has a dual boot with OS X and 9; but it has a admin lock on it, and is only 10GB.
    Thanks

I am not certain, but your 80 GB might be a machiine that requires X be installed on the first 8 GB's of a drive. You may need to partition.
Keep the machine in target mode, and see if the cube starts from the installation. This would be a good clue, if the install was good.

One person had iffy 3rd RAM.
You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.
    Do a chkdsk
Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
    Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands)

  • Got Lion with new Mac mini and want to install on imac

    Hi,
I just bought a new mac mini with lion. and now i want to install Lion on my imac.
Is there a way to register my purchase of lion on appstore so i can download it from there?
    //Stefan

You'll have to pay for the App Store version of Lion needed for the iMac.  The license for Lion  that you get  with a new computer is different from the App Store license, and doesn't provide for multiple installations.
From the Lion Software License Agreement, which you can download from here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Standard and Preinstalled Apple Software License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you obtained the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or under a volume license, maintenance or other written agreement from Apple, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time. For example, these standard single-copy license terms apply to you if you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple- branded hardware.
    B. License from Mac App Store. If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control;

  • Imac won't let me install Final cut studio 2..it will let me install the upgrade, but it has no live type and i need it to work on my current projects. How do I get Live type back installed in iMac

I just purchased an iMac for home and went to install final cut studio 2 and it gave me an error saying something about "PowerPC" not used or something like that. Installed the studio upgrade just fine...but it has no "Live Type" which I need to work on projects I have been using in my Mac Pro at my work place. How do I get "Live Type" to install in this iMac? Downloaded Live Type upgrade but that won't update cause there's no "Live Type" in the applications.

It sounds like you have Lion installed on your new imac, although your profile says SL 10.6.8 (you may want to change this.)
If you have the Snow Leopard install disc I believe you can install "Rosetta" from the extras folder which will then, if you have the original FCS2 discs , allow you to select and install Live Type and LIve Type content only from the custom install options.
I hope this will work for you.

  • Adobe premiere elements 12 not installing on iMac 17

    hello,
I am trying to install Adobe Premiere Elements 12 onto my iMac 17, i go through the install process, agree the terms and conditions, enter my serial number (correctly), select where on my mac i would like it to be installed to and  it begins to instal. Standard right?
However it only ever gets to 2% before the installation fails. When i hit the button to ask for a description of the error it opens up my web browser and gives me the following info.
    Exit Code: 15
Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example, ERROR:
    -------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------
    - 0 fatal error(s), 0 error(s)
What's going on? It did this when i was trying to install the trial version and it's doing it now with the disc!

When i run disk utilities i can see the premiere elements 12 disks in the laft hand payne but when i click on them nothing appears in the right hand payne for me to select, therefore repair disk permissions is left greyed out. Ideas?

  • Yosemite installed on iMac purchased with Mavericks now takes 2 minutes to boot and give the login screen.

Downloaded and installed os x yosemite on iMac that was purchased originally with Mavericks. When power button is pressed I get start up audio tone and then the the black screen with the white apple symbol with the progression bar. The bar moves very slowly two about one third and then the mouse cursor appears and there it stalls for around two minutes. After the wait the login screen appears and it operates normally. This whole process before update would only take maybe 30 seconds.
If I try the web recovery process it will revert back to Mavericks any suggestions on what this might be. I do have an external Mac passport pro external drive that does have time machine enabled and has been there for months.
    Thanks

After spending a number of hours with Apple Care personnel I was connected with a supervisor and finally got the iMac to boot up on every attempt and in a reasonable amount of time. Login screen now comes on in 30 to 40 seconds and computer is usable within a total time of 1 minute to 1minute 30 seconds.
Here was the process. Tried to download whole operating system with reinstall from utilities menu at power on and at 7 hours progress bar stalled at one third the way. Reason, time machine external hard drive was still connected during process. Disconnected all external connections except power and tried download again. This time whole operating system downloaded in 15 to 20 minutes. Yosemite installed and rebooted automatically and booted to login screen, signed in then to desktop, but boot took around five minutes. Shutdown and connected all peripherals, i.e.. ext. HD, DVD, printers and tried to start. iMac stalled at 2 minutes into progression bar with white apple symbol before login screen. Removed peripherals and tried again and still stalled and would not boot.
What was done to correct is as follows. Started iMac in Safe Mode, cleared all items in cache from Macintosh HD/Library folder and System /Library folder, system start up items, launch agents, and launch daemons contents cleared, removed printers in system preferences, ran disk utilities verify and repair of disk and disk permissions. Shutdown and removed power from iMac. With no peripherals system then booted normally. Reconnected peripherals while iMac was still on and added printers back to system preferences and all is well.
So it seems only reasonable that the downloading problem was hindered by the time machine external hard drive, to which an Apple rep. agreed and the extremely slow boot up or stalled boot up was caused by items in the start up and launch folders. I will state here that I was using my ISP's anti virus software for the Mac which was in the launch folders and most likely was causing the boot up problems.
