X200 external display maximum resolution?

I can only get 1440x900, when my external LCD has a native resolution of 1680x900. Is this just a limitation?

I am having the exact same problem on an X200s with a Samsung SyncMaster 2033sw, 19" LCD at 1600x900. There is no way to get the external LCD to display at 1600x900, and the max is 1440x900. I have tried Intel video drivers (both patched and standard) as well as Lenovo drivers. I think it is a BIOS limitation, for what reason I do not know. The chipset supports 1600x900 as far as I can tell. The Intel display tray does not show this resolution.

  • External display - maximum resolution only works in safe mode on MBP

I'm having an issue with an external display connected to a 2012 non-retina MacbookPro 15" i7 running 10.9.  Monitor is Dell U2713HM, which has a maximum resolution of 2560x1440, and is connected via a Mini-Dipslayport to Displayport cord.
My setup has been working great for over a year, where while at my office I use the macbook closed in "clamshell mode" with the Dell monitor being the only display in use, running at 2560x1440.  However today when I came into my office and connected to the dispay as usual, the resolution on the Dell was noticably scaled.  System preferences is showing it running Scaled at 1080p, and when I select Best for Display it stretches to a very wide and distorted resolution.  I can hold alt and click the Scaled button to display additional resolutions, however the maximum resolution listed is 1600x1200.  Same problem regardless of clamshell, mirror, or extended desktop modes.
I've been trying to track down the problem, and have run though the usual procedures: restart, shutdown, reset PRAM, reset SMC, check cord connections, verify disk, repair disk permissions - all to no avail.  However when I boot in safe mode the display runs as it should at 2560x1440 without issue, which lets me know its not a problem with the cord or connectioin, but rather something on the OS / GPU side.
I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing the issue.  Considering its been working fine for quite some time, and I've made no unusual changes to the MBP in the past 48 hours when the display was working properly, I'm not really sure where to go from here.   Hoping to not have to migrate to a new user or repartion my HDD.
    Any suggestions on possible solutions?
    Thanks.

I stumbled upon a fix.  Still not sure what caused the issue in the first place, but for anyone having the same issue, the display override script contained on the site below seems to have fixed the issue.

  • Unable to use external display native resolution

    Dear all,
Here is the current setup I'm using :
MacbookPro 15", hi res, Mid 2010 with Mac OS 10.6.6, software up-to-date
Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA Adapter Firmware 1.03
    IIYAMA Prolite E2607WSD, a 26" monitor with native resolution of 1920x1200 @ 60Hz
When connecting the MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter to the VGA cable, the MBP doesn't enable me to set the external native monitor resolution of 1920x1200 with extended desktop. The maximum available resolution the macbookpro is able to diaply is 1920x1080.
    What I tried :
-using high performance graphics in the energy saver settings
    -using clamshell mode
    -using mirroring mode
    -reset PRAM
    -reset SCM
    -delete com.windowserver.plist
-use SwitchResX.app and DisplayConfigX.app to force the native resolution
To make sure that the monitor was correctly behaving, I tried with a PC with WinXP, and I was able to get max resolution of 1920x1200 without an issue. I also tried with a Macbook 2008 with 10.5.6, and with it's own DisplayPort to VGA adapter (the "normal size" one, not the "mini" one I'm using with the MBP), and it worked as well with the native resolution of 1920x1200.
I 'm coming to the conclusion that either the minidisplayport to vga adapter doesn't accept any resolution higher than 1920x1080 or that the one I bought from Apple is not properly working, or that I should use the minidisplay port to DVI adapter (no HDMI here as an input for the monitor)...
I also browsed the forum and found a lot of similar issues, so I guess it's pretty common, but no workaround seems possible.
Does anybody in the community had the same issue and know how to solve it ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello BSteely,
I actually tried to get the EDID information and to replicate them as much as possible but everytime I tried a custom resolution, after reboot, SRX will say " the system didn't accept this setup"... and the proper resolution is not available..

  • Why does my 27" LED Cinema Display only display maximum resolution of 1920x1200, when my Mid 2009 13" MBP says it supports up to 2560x1600?

When I have my MBP connected to my 27" LED Cinema Display, my display settings only show a maximum resolution of 1920x1200, when the specs on both my MBP and Display say they they support up to 2560x1600?  Am I missing something?

I finally decided to just take my MBP down to the Apple store and see what would happen if I connected it to one of their new ACDs.  At 1st, the guy at the Genius Bar told me that my MBP only supported 1280x800 as a maximum resolution.  I told him that was for my MBP screen, and not an external monitor.  Finally I convinced him to let me connect my MBP to one of their monitors.  Low and behold, looking at the Display settings pane I saw some addtional resolutions, including 2560x1600!
So, now I have confirmed that my MBP can drive an external monitor to a resolution of 2560x1600, using just the single mini displayport connection.  I just have to figure out what's wrong with my ACD.  Suspecting that my older ACD might not support this higher resolution, I did finally discover that my model only supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1600.
    Sorry for all the confusion...

  • Missing external display 1920x1080 resolution, only shows 1680x1050... Please HELP !

When connecting my Macbook Air (mid 2011) to an external LG 22" Display (M2241A) which supports a native resolution of 1920x1080, the closest setting available in the display preferences is 1680x1050, and aspect ratio is really distorted at this size. I use an Apple mini-display-port to HDMI, and HDMI cable to connect the Monitor.
What can I do to correct this problem ? How do I make the 1920x1080 available and get rid of the distortion ?

Thanks for your quick answer, but... When I use the 1080p resolution, I need to use Underscan, and the colors change, the fonts get all blurry and overall definition goes really bad. Really seems like a TV setting.
Maybe okay to watch a movie, but not to work in Photoshop and get design work done properly.
The external display only has HDMI + VGA inputs.
So I guess the next step is to try finding a different connector (mini-display to VGA) But I am now in Chile, Patagonia, and believe me, this will be quite a challenge to find !!! Also, no way to buy at Apple online store and get it shipped here in Chile... :-(((

  • External Display native resolution suddenly not available

    Hello,
I'm using a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 external monitor with my MBP, connected via a DVI-to VGA adapter. I've used this computer/monitor setup for quite some time with no problem. Yesterday, I hooked my computer up to my 46" Samsung HDTV with no problem.
When I hooked my computer back up to the Westinghouse, the native resolution (1680x1050) was no longer available. Instead, the monitor hooks up at 1600x1000. Strangely, though, the EDID information appears to suggest that 1680x1050 should be available. Here's the EDID:

Any ideas? Switchresx didn't work, either

Well, you can move the file from the desktop back to its original location to at least get back to what you had before.
The file structure under Snow Leopard has changed and it's hard to keep up with this stuff. There is also now a com.apple.WindowServer.plist file in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons that you could try moving to the desktop and restarting. I dunno. Same rule applies.....if it doesn't help, move the file from the desktop back to its original location.

  • X200 - external display

    Hi,
Hope someone can advice on this.
I have a client who is using 2 external screens with Lenovo X200 laptop. Display is all fine but he wants to span toolbar across both external screens. Not sure whether this is possible with Intel Media Accelerator on X200 laptops however would appreciate if someone can advice on this.
    Thanks

Well, there is two way to do it.
Ultramon is a software that could solve the problem.
Displaylink is hardware solution which is more 'powerful'...just youtube it and you can see some setup.
The problem would come when you consider external monitor resolutions and the memory required to support it. Using VGA cables alone would not solve the issue as the graphic card would not know where to send the signals. using a hardware would 'speed' up and automate some of the stuff.
I'm already stretching a big window and toolbar across the screen of my X301 and an external monitor using ultramon. But if your client requires more power and convenience, two displaylink adapters would solve it (ebay...or lenovo latest dock with displaylink builded in).
BTW: The displayport is NOT the same as displaylink, I have a displayport on my X301, its basically another VGA/HDMI type of cable.

  • External display incorrect resolution when MBP lid is closed

    Hi,
I've just bought a 24" Samsung monitor for use with my 2011 MBP.  The optimum resolution for the monitor is 1920 x 1080.  I ahave it hooked up through a minidisplay to vga adapter.  When I have this resolution selected in extended display mode it works fine, however when I close the lid and run the monitor with the same resolution as the main display, the image gets squashed and the screen flickers, I can also see faint lines in the background and the display is not centred, leaving black gaps on either side of the screen.
The frustrating thing is it was originally running fine before I temporarily changed the resolution in display preferences when in closed lid mode.  Is there any kind of fix for this?? I know it's not the monitor's fault because it's displaying the correct resolution when in extended desktop and on other systems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any bossy third party apps trying to control things?
Run Apple Hardware Test, and/or a trip to the "genius" bar.
No thrid party apps have access to my display prefs as far as I know.  And the hardware test did not indicate that anyhting was wrong.  I would like to leave the "Genius" bar as a last resort, they weren't much help last time...
Ok so moving the menu bar is allowing me to use the external as native desktop, but this doesn't fix the resolution problem when I close the lid even though the resolution in display prefs is set the same.  Is it possible then to tell the mbp not to sleep when I close the lid??  I know you can do this in windows.  Please note that I am still using Snow Leopard v10.6.8

    Hi all,
I use Windows 7 and the X200 display driver on the official driver page.
    The version is 8.15.10.1855
I also use a Ultrabase, and connect it to the external LCD through DisplayPort.
Sometimes the external LCD would start to flicker, then become black for several second,
    and resume automatically.
Does anybody also encounter the same problem?
    Thank you!

I bit the bullet and bought the Displayport to DVI connector. It cost me USD25. I'm now using the DVI port on the Dell U2410. It's been a couple of hours (fingers and toes still crossed) and no flicker so far, so I think it's a Displayport issue.
If this works, then I would attribute it to the implementation of Displayport on the X200 and Ultrabase because when I connect using the Displayport connector from my desktop to the same monitor, there are no problems whatsoever.

  • EliteBook 8470p Dual External Display Max Resolution

I am currently using a docked HP Elitebook with two external monitors at (1920x1200) with no issues.  I wanted upgrade to two 4k external monitors (3840x2160). Does anyone know if the Elitebook can handle this?

Either DVI or DisplayPort will drive that resolution, though you may need to use a dual-link DVI adapter.
DisplayPort is a newer technology and offers the same resolution support as DVI.

  • Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) HDMI External Display

I just bought a new MacBook 13" (late 2013). I have two LG displays (LG22LS4R) which I am trying to hook up. One via MB HDMI port to HDMI and the other is Thunderbolt adpater to HDMI.
The issue is when I connect MB HDMI port to HDMI, my external display renders a really horrible picture. The display is really fuzzy and the fonts look horrible too. I have tried all different types of settings. Can anyone suggest anything?
    Please help

Thanks but I tried using another cable but same result. I do get a signal when I set it to 1080p but it looks awful. When I try to set it to the external displays native resolution I lose the signal.
Surely other people have encountered a simliar problem?

  • 19 inch or 22 inch external display?

I have a black Macbook (older generation). I'm looking into buying the Acer H213H as an external display (21.5 inch LCD).
Before I buy it, I'd like to know if external displays with higher native resolutions than the Macbook will show fuzzier text/images than external displays with resolutions that are closer to that of the Macbook.
A simpler way to ask would be: will a 19 inch LCD show a crisper image than a 22 inch LCD when connected to the Macbook?
Thanks for any advice on the matter!!

The MacBook can display higher resolutions than 1280x800 when connected to an external display. Therefore, either monitor you are looking at will display crisply.

  • External Display driver for retina

    Hi there..
I'm using Macbook pro retial from 3 month ago
and using External display, max resolution is 2560X1880 and 2560X1440
the problem is screen is little blurred
so i was tested at the APPLE CINEMA MONITOR
    the result was same..
and I was tested at the PC in same specipication
    all display was good.
I think it is caused by video driver of RETINA,  THE SCALING...
is there anybody who find a solution?

    Hello
Like Joao said, the graphic driver for this unit is only available for Xp and W2k.
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp
Well, you can check other Toshiba notebooks which have the same graphic card and try to download this driver.
You can also try to search on the European Toshiba website for the units with the same graphic card.

    Good luck

  • Unibody MBP owners with *working* external displays, please chime in.

I'm trying to determine if there's any use at this time to try to exchange the MBP (unibody) I have now with another unit in the hopes of getting proper external display support. (To be clear, I'm referring to the external display problems many of us are having, like in this thread, and this one, and others.)
I'm sure there are others suffering from this problem who are simply seeking another datapoint in determining whether or not exchanging one's unibody MBP for another are of any use at this time. So the question here is:
If you have a unibody MBP, and you are successfully driving an external monitor without issue (using the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter), can you kindly post the following information?
    1) External display model (manufacturer and model)
    2) External display screen resolution
    3) Any information about DVI cable, length, brand if applicable, etc.
    4) Have you confirmed proper operation in both 9400 and 9600 GPU modes?
    5) If you know, is your MBP equipped with the 9c84 or 9c85 built-in display panel?
    6) If your setup wasn't originally working, but now is working due to a unit swap or swapping out of the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter with a new one, can you kindly note that?
Please do not consider yourself representative of a properly working external display setup if yours looks mostly good, with just minor artifacting--that is, for the purpose of this thread, please consider "working" to mean only perfectly normal operation of an external monitor from your unibody MBP.
Are all of the above points necessarily relevant? I don't know yet, but I figured it's best to try to get as much information from those who have working units, to try to determine what's relevant and what isn't.
Why am I asking this? Because I've already wasted enough time with this unibody MacBook Pro, now on my third unit, and I do not want to waste time making trips to the store to exchange units (and the time necessary for restoring to the new unit, etc.) if it's not going to help things. (The previous two replacements had nothing to do with this particular problem, and I didn't have my external display until the third unit, so have no idea if the previous two suffered from this particular problem or not.) If it seems that an exchange from one unibody MBP to another isn't going to help, then those of us who need to resolve this might learn more information with which to make a decision. Right now, I'm seriously considering exchanging for the current 17" MBP with matte display, even though it's not the new unibody design, and doesn't quite match up in the specifications with the new 15" MBP--I just need to get my setup working, and figure the older style of the 17" might be more tested and worked out.
Thanks in advance to those of you who fit the bill and answer these questions.
NOTE: If you have more relevant information to ask of those with working setups, please do; but please avoid the discussion of your problems if you're among the ones (like me) with external display issues, as there are other threads for the discussion of that (like the ones linked above). Ideally, I envision this thread as more populated by the responses of those with working setups.

  • I get a dark screen on startup, but the result is ok. If an external display is also attached, the usual grey screen and gear appears. What is this?

When I boot my macbook pro (mid 2011) I have a blank screen until the log-on screen appears. Otherwise everything is fine. I am not used to that but rather the grey screen followed by apple logo and then the gear. If, however, I have an external display attached (projector), I get the usual screens at the external display's resolution. Is this a problem? Is there some setting to change? Thanks.
