X230 First Boot

Hello,
I've just received my newly purchased x230 thinkpad,
I've connected it to the power, and booted up.. At first some weird unclear screen, and then disappeared.. If I touched the screen a bit, moved it back and up, sometimes a quick bizarre screen came for second and disappeared.
I'm guessing its some kind of screen fault. Someone came across this? What can I do in this situation?
Thank you!
Afik,

Hello fred,
Thank yoy for your reply,
i've connected an external monitor, pressed FN+F7 several times, but no succes, it just switch to total black, and if again i switch again it just random black with stripes...
i did contacted my local IBM service provider, but they can only fix it, which is kind of annoying, since i'm buying a new high-end laptop not to get a "fixed" one, i am willing to replace it with a wokring unit, do you know whom i can contact with?
thank you

  • 4 days old MBP 13". First boot up showed charge of 100%, next boot up showed battery fully charged but the percentage read 98% in the subsequent boot ups the battery is fully charged but percentage reads 96%. Whats wrong??

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. On my first boot up, the battery charged to 100%. I didn't operate this thing on the battery. The next time I booted this thing up, the battery was charged but the meter read 98%. In the subequent boot ups of this machine, and I still having not used the battery, my battery is fully charged but the meter now reads 96%. IS there some problem with the hardware or the software? Help is appreciated!!
    Thanks.

hey thank you for the info. Based on what happened, the battery has gone up to 100% just once when I booted this machine for the first time. On subsequent occasions the Battery Charged symbol has appreard at below 100% charging. I have been using my MacBook Pro for the whole day with outlet power and never did the battery go back to 100%. I hope I don't have to calibrate the battery on this model?

Charge the phone for 15 minutes with the Apple charger. Then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears.

    Thanks....

Launch Keychain Access and click on Login in the left hand pane and then on Passwords.  Next do search for Apple in the search field at the top and click on Apple ID Authenicication in the list that comes up.  That will give you the ID no. and password.

  • OSD Failure - Windows 7 - Blue Screen on First Boot in Full OS

    Hi,
We are experiencing a really strange problem with our OSD which is hard to pin down. Our setup is SCCM 2012 R2 with 4 PXE enabled DP's (VMWare VMs) across 2 data centers and on seperate hosts and we are delivering Windows 7 (32 and 64) with recaptured WIM
files. Ouor deployments work fine for around a week and then they suddenly start experiencing a reboot look and blue screening at the first boot into the full OS.
This occurs on multiple different physical machines and we inject driver packages for different builds with WMI filters on motherboard as is common. The really weird part is that this will work for days then stop working. The only workaround we have is to
recapture the WIM file (we have a build and capture task sequence for this) and then it works again, even though the content and drivers are exactly the same from the same B+C task sequence. Even the windows updates are the same with no new ones. It doesn't
seem to be the drivers themselves but rather the process of DISM injecting them offline in windows PE which appears to break the registry. The last thing we see before blue screen is "Updating registry" in windows 7 boot.
These are the things we have tried are...
     - Recapturing the WIM (works for around a week but not a fixed period)
     - Host the WIM on a physical DP (to rule out VMWare) with only the WIM and a single driver package. Again this worked fine for a week or so.
     - Built several different physical machines. All fine but when this stops, it stops for all of them
     - If we remove all drivers but the LAN driver it can work but our testing has ruled out a specific bad driver as we have used different models of machine and if it was, then it would never work.
     - We have set the TFTP block size to default of 1024 (we had it higher as 8192) to rule out the boot image being corrupted on download. It made no difference other than being a lot slower.
     - Compared MD5 hashes for the WIM to rule out corruption.
     - Removed and redistributed the WIM and drivers to different DP's (that it had never been on before)
The DISM.log on a failed device shows entries like
CBS Failed to unload offline registry: {bf1a281b-ad7b-4476-ac95-f47682990ce7}C:/Windows/System32/config/SOFTWARE, the client may still need it open. [HRESULT = 0x80070005 - E_ACCESSDENIED]
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This question on
    Dell's forum sounds very similar.
What we are really struggling with is why would the same WIM, with the same driver package, from the same distribution point, to the same physical machine, work every day for a week the permanently break? Aaargh!
    Thanks everyone,
    Shaun

  • Kernel panic on first boot after 10.6.8 update

    Hi,
    Here are the fact:
    1) I systematically get a kernel panic on first boot after an attempt to update to 10.6.8 (was able to revert to 10.6.7 using Time Machine; now I'm running my tests on a clone). While doing the update, there are NO USB connexion to my laptop, nor ethernet connexion. Only the power cable.
    2) I DO NOT use the software Hands Off which is known to cause such an issue
    3) I've tested this on two different hard drive (with a clone of my system)
    4) I disabled all third app on startup just to be sure this wasn't a conflict problem
    5) After a kernel panic, I'm always able to boot in safe mode
    6) I did try both the normal update and the combo update (same result)
Now I'm kinda stuck. The next test I'm thinking performing is to update while in safe mode. But I don't know if it will help.
And yes, my permissions are all fine. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I believe I need to be in 10.6.8 in order to update to Lion?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Parneix

    Hi,
Sorry about that. Below you'll find the log of my latest kernel panic.
I did follow instructions suggested by user "ds store". The only "kext" file that I've got (by running the commands in the Terminal) was related to the software LittleSnitch. I downloaded it again in order to run the uninstaller. I'll try again to update to 10.6.8 under those conditions and report here.

  • Mac Mini first boot and bluetooth keyboard not recognised

    Hi Apple Support Community-
I have just purchased a brand new Mac Mini and App Wireless Keyboard.  Unfortunately upon first boot, the Mac Mini is requesting I connect my bluetooth keyboard by switching it on, however even though the green light flashes, after the 5 second startup acknowledgement, there is no response from the Mac Mini.
To confirm the keyboard is working, I have successfully paired it with my MacBook.  I do not have a USB Keyboard or Mouse and without purchasing additional hardware, do you have any suggestions to work around this problem?
    Thanks, Julian

    Hi Julian,
Sometime a Mac can't pickup the connection of a bluetooth keyboard or mouse is normal. Whatever your Mac is brand new or not.
I will do the following if the brand new Mac can't pickup the bluetooth connection, but make sure the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is not yet paired with other computer, that means you have to un-pair the keyboard and mouse from your MacBook before you perform the follow step:
    - Switch off the Mac
    - Switch off the Keyboard and Mouse which not yet paired with other computer, remove its battery, and re-install the battery after 10 seconds
    - Switch on the Keyboard and Mouse first, make sure both devices have a green light flashes (the light flashed at intervals, like a pulse **...**...sorry my poor English), that means the devices is discoverable.
    - Switch on the Mac asap if all the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is ready, and let the Mac pair both device (according the screen instruction)
If the method still doesn't work, the worst case is: i'm afraid you have to connect wired keyboard and mouse to finish the Setup Assistant, and pair both bluetooth devices by Bluetooth Preferences. Once both bluetooth devices connected, disconnect wired keyboard and mouse.

  • Problem in formatting ,scan disk i need to set cd rom as first boot device

    hi,
For formatting ,scan disk i need to set cd rom as first boot device
But whenever i do it from manager and restart the machine It takes long to get back the console of the machine.
By the time machine boot's up, its from hard disk.
How would i avoid such situation?
    Please advice....

    hi
could you describe more precisely where are you?
do you mean BIOS boot settings? if yes, you choose CDROM as first, boot and your systems start from CD disk.
what operating system do you use?
    what console do you mean?

  • First boot of local zone - how to determine when sysidtool has finished

    Hello,
we use a /etc/sysidcfg in order to do the solaris base configuration automatically. After the first boot of a local zone I recognized that some tools are started by solaris (sysidtool, etc.) which apply the settings mentioned in /etc/sysconfig.
Since we want to script some post-install set-ups I need to know, when the first boot including all "first-boot-scripts" has completely finished. Is it possible to query this information, maybe by calliing a special tool or by looking up some string within an logfile?
I would be grateful for any hints,
    Thomas

I haven't checked, but I assume they have normal dependencies in the SMF tree so that other services don't start until they complete.
I would probably look at the milestone/multi-user-server service and see if it's online yet. If it is, they're probably done.

  • When my Imac first boots up, file sharing doesn't work

27" iMac; about 7 months old
    OS X 10.8.4
    2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5
When I first boot it up, file sharing with the PCs doesn't work.  I have to turn file sharing off then back on, sometimes I have to do it several times, before the PCs will finally connect using their mapped drives.

Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist out of the stupidly hidden /Library/Preferences/ folder onto the Desktop, restart, and see if the problem persists. If not, reset your system preferences and delete the moved file. Then, update to 10.8.5.

  • How do I make my DVD first boot

    MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 U3 PLUS
I have the manual and still can't figure out how to make my first boot my DVD so I can boot to programs off my DVD's?

    Hi
Go to BIOS (spam DELETE key upon booting <MSI splash screen should show what to press>), and once you get into BIOS, go into Settings-> Boot and you should see similar screen as below:
Then on Boot Option #1 make sure that your DVD drive is set (it should show its name which is usually just brand >not "UEFI DVD"!< ) Reboot and it should say that "If you want to boot from CD/DVD, press any key..."
Else try F11 (I believe) and pick your DVD drive from there.

  • Mac Mini First Boot Registration

    Hello,
When I first boot my new Mac Mini, it ask me some details for registration. I didn't have an Apple ID. So I registered it probably with my name and phone number etc. Then newly I created an Apple ID, and re-registered my new Mac to my Apple ID, with same name, phone, e-mail etc. Would it create a problem? Or my old registration is deleted already? =)
    Thanks in advance;
    H.

We don't really know what happens at Apple, but you now have an Apple ID. Whatever old registrations you had should still remain under your old ID.

  • Mac mini first boot

I plan on getting a Mac mini in the next few months and I was wondering on first boot up how do I setup my logitech bluetooth mouse

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It should detect your mouse and have basic mouse capabilities until you can install any Logitech software and fully configure the mouse.

That is another classic symptom of a WD hard drive being jumpered as either a master or a slave when there is no other drive on the cable with it.  If the drive is the only drive on the cable, then remove the jumper from the drive.

  • After upgrade conky does not display right on first boot

After i upgraded my arch conky will display on top of all windows when i first boot the machine, until i kill it and restart it then it works perfectly. I am using openbox with no compositing.

conky reports the same thing as all previous versions, playing with the config did not help and no note of any config changes on conky's website. yes downgrading to conky-1.8.1-1 works for now but world like to fix this as it does not seem to affect my other computer with almost the same hardware and setup.
