X301 with DisplayPort

Hi,
I have a X301 with DisplayPort interface, I want it output 3840x1200 of custom resolution, how does it?

Welcome to the forum!
Well, the Thinkpad tabook list here a maximum external resolution of 2048x1536 @ 75Hz for the X301 and the Intel webpage says that the DisplayPort interface for the G45 supports a resolution up to 2560 x 1600 pixels.
However, you have to search through the Intel communities and ask there for any possible fault tolerant higher INF file resolution customizations of the GMA 4500MHD.

  • Serious Keyboard problems on X301 with Windows 7

Erratic behavior occurs when typing at normal speeds. The cursor will jump back/forth and up/down randomly.  Issue doesn't occur when typing very slow or when using a USB Keyboard (which I'm doing now cause this problem is driving me crazy).  I've searched the lenevo boards and came across a similar post from 2009  however the problem was fixed with a BIOS upgrade which I already did without any luck.  I'm on BIOS ver 3.10 - 1.05 and have installed all the latest drivers for the x301.  Help Please!
Note from Moderator:  Please don't post the same message in multiple boards/threads as it splinters the discussion.  Duplicate(s) removed.

Is the touchpad active?  If so, any chance you're brushing it?  I run into that problem on my external keyboard.

  • Installing Windows 7 on an X301 with no optical drive

As the title says - how do you do it?
I know the obvious solution is to buy an external optical drive, but I do not want to buy one specifically for the purpose and then have no use for it thereafter.
Are the following options feasible (or possible!):
    - piggyback off the CDROM drive from your main PC, like a Macbook Air
    - install the OS from a USB stick
    Thank you for all suggestions.

Install from a USB-stick! It's fast, reliant and quiet!
If you are unsure how to create a Windows 7 Installation USB-stick, here's a short guide:
The following how-to assumes that you're working on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7 with the Windows 7 ISO or Windows 7 DVD available.
Step 1. Format the USB flash memory drive to FAT32 file system
Run CMD.EXE and type the following commands. Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as “disk 1″. Double check that by doing a list of the disks (type “list disk”) before cleaning it.
       1. diskpart
       2. select disk 1
       3. clean
       4. create partition primary
       5. select partition 1
       6. active
       7. format fs=fat32
       8. assign
       9. exit
Step 2. Copy Windows 7’s DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive
Type in command to start copying all the content from the Windows 7 DVD (or mounted ISO) to your newly formatted high speed flash drive. Note: In this example "d:\" is your Windows 7 DVD, and "e:\" is your USB-stick.
        xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\
Step 3. Setup your computer BIOS to boot from USB Drive
Step 4. Install Windows 7 from your flash memory drive!

  • Dual display with Lenovo USB Port Replicator 43R8770

    Hi,
I have installed the Lenovo USB port replicator using the 1.0.0.1 drivers.  I am running Windows XP on a Thinkpad X300.
I can successfully get into dual display mode but when I try to make the external monitor my primary display it will not work.  It just switches my primary monitor back the notebook LCD without displaying any errors.
If I disable the notebook display I can set the external as the primary but as long as the notebook is enable the external cannot be set as the primary.

  • X301 problems after installing driver updates - won't come out of sleep mode

We have a new X301 with Vista 32 installed. Things were working fine until I ran system update the other day. I've set the power options so not shutdown hibernate, however, after a period of time the system seems to go to sleep or to a screen saver and will not come out of whatever state it is in. The only solution is to power off/on the system.
I have an X500 where there were display driver problems if there was an external monitor (dual monitor) attached. The only thing I can think of is that either there is some similar issue with the X301 since we have an external monitor attached or there is something that was messed up with the drivers that were installed. I do have (for now) restore points before these drivers were installed but I'm not ready to take that drastic step yet (or a full system restore and start over).
Anyone experience this type of issue or have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Neil

Sadly, I had the issue resurface today. It went into standby/sleep mode while I was in a meeting (on battery power), and later I tried to wake it, and all I got was a black screen with a mouse cursor.
The keyboard brightness and volume keys on the keyboard were responsive (I could hear the audio level clicks as I changed it), but the visual overlay didn't show (where it shows the white speaker graphic with the bar of rectangles representing volume level). Also, the screen brightness keys did nothing.
I finally used Ctrl + Cmd + Power to force a restart. Luckily, my user account didn't get completely hosed like it did a couple weeks ago.
So, it looks like Migration Assistant isn't the culprit here. This is the system I just finished rebuilding. So it's either a bug in OS X/Mavericks, or it's due to an application I have running, or a configuration change I've made.
It seems to only happen when I'm on battery power, for what that's worth. I don't recall it ever happening when I'm plugged in. I have Power Nap disabled while on battery power, btw.
I'm going to enable SSH access so I can try to SSH in the next time this happens. Perhaps that will provide useful diagnostic info.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

  • X301 and pre-installed Lenovo Software

    Hello to everybody.
    I'm new in this community.
    I've been a ThinkPad user since 1997 (600, R52, T60p) and now I've bought a X301 with Win 7 32 bit.
Comparing the Laptop with my previous T60p with Win XP, I have some doubts about the configuration and the preinstalled software (Think Vantage Tools) wich comes with it. Maybe someone here can help me.
    My doubts are:
    - why is not possible to get the productivity center and get it in association with the blue button?
    - why is the Active Protection software pre-installed (and loaded at startup), when the HD is an SSD one?
    - the GPS doesn't work (Only one time I've got one satellite in an open environment, where my phone gets full GPS coverage, otherweise normal is 0 satellite)
    - the fingerprint recognition at startup is very very slow
    - every Lenovo software, when launched, opens very slowly (minutes).
This is the situation I've found out of the box. I'm wondering whether the Laptop has left the factory with a wrong configuration (I mean, for Win 7 and SSD) and if I would be able to set everything in the right status through the use of System-Update.
Thank-you to everyone and, please, excuse my terrible English.

  • About to order X301 and dock. Have concerns

I am going to order the X301, with 128 SSD, DVD-R/W, XP, and Verizon WWAN. Plus I am adding the USB Dock. Sometimes too much research can be a bad thing. I am now having second thoughts that the system will run as advertised.
Specifically, I am concerned about the Verizon WWAN not being able to connect. I already have a Verizon wireless account, so I will need to transfer that to the X301. There were many posts about problems with this. Does anyone know if this has been fixed?
Second, I have read of all sorts of problems with the display. I will be using a HP w2207h monitor, with a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor, and am concerned about getting a quality display.
I have been a long time ThinkPad user, but strayed with my last purchase. I thought coming back to a ThinkPad would reduce the computer problems I am having with a non-ThinkPad, but am wondering if the quality of the product has slipped in the last 2 years?
Any advice on whether I should look at a different ThinkPad model, or stick with the X301 would be appreciated.

No dock, i just use the machine when i get on site in the mine, it has 3G and GPS integrated system, great little machine, but it is bit dirty due to all the dusts. In the office i have my own T61 and X60, which i brought along for this trip.
I am using the X301 right now.

  • Thinkpad X301 DirectX problem

    Hello All,
I hope someone can help with a problem hat has been driving me nuts for a while now. I have a Thinkpad X301 with all latest Lenovo Updates and Windows 7 64bit SP1. (The issue has existed since before SP1 was installled)
Simply, any program (usually a game) that uses direct X fails. My screen flashes black in what looks like several different resolutions and then i get a message that the specified program failed.
dxdiag also fails (crashes) BUT if i ignore Direct3D when i restart DXdiag it will work and tells me Direct3D, Directdraw etc are not available.
Here is the kicker though... If I run dxdiag in 64bit (option on the bottom of dxdiag on 64bit machines) Direct3D, DirectDraw etc all report as fine and everything seems fine. If i run dxdiag in 32bit again it crashes until I tell it to ignore Direct3D. back to 64bit, all working again.
I have tried, downgrading graphics drivers, using latest Lenovo Drivers, using latest Intel generic drivers, upgrading and downgrading sound drivers too.. all to no avail.
The games I want to run are not in any way demanding, Sid Meires Pirates for example plus several that are listed on Intels own site for the Series 4 Mobile range as compatible.
Can anyone help? I have tried so many things over the last few months I am not too sure what to try next.
The last resort is I wiped and reloaded Windows 7, same problem returned.
    Kind regards, Kevin.

I have tried the folowing games that work:
    Civilization IV & Deus EX
So far these are the only two that have worked.
    All these fail:
    Sid Meiers Pirates!
    John Tillers Campaign Series
Close Combat 5 : Invasion Normandy
Close Combat: The longest Day (2009) puchased as it is the updated version of Normandy
    Dawn of War (Warhammer)
I have tried all with all the compatibility mode options, all the game support forums suggest that they with work on Windows 7 64 bit and even with my graphics card.
As far as I am aware, the games that work do not use Direct3D, so i feel this is where my issue lies - especially as DXdiag crashes (at least in 32bit mode) when i run it in 64bit it reports everything as working fine.
I think if I can fgure out why DXdiag crashes in 32bit mode I will be a lot further on the road to a solution, bit other than reinstall Windows, run System File Checker, and get the latest graphics card drivers I am at a loss of what to do.
    Thanks for taking an interest!
Oh by the way I have also tried to run and install the games on a clean boot disabling all non essential services including firewall and antivirus, even then the games fail and dxdiag crashes.
    Kind Regards, Kevin.

  • X301 - Freezes all the time, CTRL-ALT-DEL / CTRL-SHIFT-ESC no effect

HELP, just bought my first Thinkpad, the X301 from tigerdirect. Everything's great except that it freezes every now and then, at least once a day.
Haven't installed anything other than factory pre-installed stuff, thought it was the McAfee hence got rid of it, running AVG antivirus now. Thought it was IE so switched to Firefox, no help there neither, Google Chrome, still freezes.
Strange thing is, on Vista Business, when it freezes, there is nothing you can do except for HARD RESET!  I mean CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing at all, neither did CTRL-SHIFT-ESC. Are there any other owners facing the same issues?
Updated the X301 with patches, both ThinkVantage and Windows, still hangs. It's very annoying to pay such a high price to go back to primitive Windows that freezes.
Is this normal? Please help. Thank you.
Message Edited by teeteet on 10-27-2008 08:35 AM

I had a similar issue with my Tigerdirect x301 but seemed to have resolved it by doing a clean install of Vista. There is a good thread on the forums over on notebookreview.com on how to do this. In my particular case I eliminated most of the extra but IMO unneeded software that came with it and went with 64bit Vista business since I had that OEM disc from my desktop build.
I did have one temporary problem in the clean install with it stopping the Vista installation, saying I needed a driver for the Mat**bleep**a CD/DVD device, but I eventually got around that by going into the BIOS and switching the SATA controller mode option to Compatibility from AHCI mode.
I got this thing last week and it must have froze 10-12 times in the first two days and in the five days since I did the clean install it has not crashed once and I swear it does everything faster.  Just this afternoon I added another 2 gb of RAM and looking forward to see what 4 gb will do for speed.

  • Windows 7, Thinkvantage issues on X301

Where to post a note tike this! No doubt it will be moved if in the wrong place!
X301 with clean install of W 7 professional 64 bit, then updated using System Update 4 as supplied by lenovo as part of the upgrade program.  All devices working fine under Windows 7 control (eg, WWAN, power, wireless connections). Issues with ThinkVantage Technologies as follows:
After about a week, Access connections reverted to a single Wireless Connection service profile and would never allow wireless connections to be made.  Windows 7 was happily making them anyway!.
Access Connections, Think Vantage toolbox toolbars take no notice of the "small icons" settings for the task bar.  Power manager icon behaves fine.
If I change screen brightness using FnHome when on battery power and shut the machine down in this changed state, the screen remains at this brightness regardless of power source when subsequently booted. Have to reset to defaults in Power manager to regain normality.  Whether this is a "feature" or not, it is a pain.
I've decided to ditch Access Connections for now, and the toolbars can be turned off. I have to say that  I'm struggling to see the advantage of some of the Thickvantage technologies in W7. Your views may differ!

  • X301- Enough power for my needs?

Hi- I'm considering buying a X301 with the main factor easy transportablity because of frequent business trips.  My needs are simple- word processing, small spreadsheets, email and internet surfing.  However, the processor is ancient by todays computing standards and Lenovo tells me that the X301 is the end of the line. Even so, I wonder if it is fast enough for my simple needs- I like the screen size otherwise I would get the X201 or X201(s).
    Thanks

I own the X300 which is the first of this line. And I am very satisfied with this model which has little difference with the follower X301: processor and interface.. My main interest was in easy transport and on this point of view it is  a great satisfaction. I mainly use for Office need: text and internet, but I also look at movies on the dvd reader.
For your intended use it is a very good choice with a display you can read without optical glasses! My only disagreement was a rare hard stop (now once a month) which has never been explained..
It has also a solid reputation in term of reliability. My last thinkpad lived for ten years.. It is a very reliable series!

  • [X301] Create Factory Recovery Disks

I have an X301 with Windows XP Pro (purchased 10/2008) as it's base from factory. I would like to create the factory recovery disks but I would like to create it on a USB flash drive as my CD/DVD drive is not working. I do have the Factory recovery CD/DVDs for Windows Vista that came with the unit but I do not want to install Windows Vista. I still want Windows XP Pro. I have gone through the Create Recovery Media, the program never gives me the option to save it to a USB flash. I have searched the forums and have seen the option for the X301 with Windows 7 installed. Is this not possible for Windows XP Pro? All of the Lenovo System Updates are updated. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Mark

  • X301 no soundI

I'm using an X301 with a remote flat panel connected by VGA but I can't get any sound either from the speakers or the headphone jack. When I open the volume control in Control panel it says the sound is working and I can see the green indicator moving up and down - but no noise! Next I tried disconnecting everything and can listen to a CD (I played it using WINDVD) - but when i try to control the volume using the sound mixed (from the icon in the program tray) it does not work - the music kept playing regardless of how i moved the volume control. Next I reconnected the VGA/screen and tried to play the CD again - this time nothing. (I run the laptop with the lid closed but it doesnt seem to makee any difference if I open it). Any help please?

Go into control panel, under sound, what is the main playback sound device selected?
