X79A GD65 (8D) Sub Zero cooling issue getting 91c ??

Hi All
Been on phase for years just a fyi
Issue is on this board using phase shows 91c and locks the settings to stock speeds?? on air or water no issues I can get 5.0 seems as soon as I go on my SS which goes -50c I cant OC as the cpu temps shoot right to 91 calling for it to go stock!!

PS I have the jumpers which I dont need as it boots fine this is just as soon as I go to OC in any form.

I would get the cold bug but this accures even on water cooling for some, I ran across another guy with same issue except he is on just water.
I can run easy on Air up to 5.0+ with good temps as well! Now they built these for LN2 as there are 2 jumpers on the board for cold booting but I dont have a boothing issue get into windows easy it is just when I go to OC anything above STOCK then the temps reverse to 91c from 0c very strange.
Hope MSI has something I can try or no extreme cooling..................
Also worked with the Gig UD7 big time issues with just booting but no chiller issues still had to rma the board for new one as it would go into these ramdom loops.
Worked with the Asrock extreme 9 now this was a joke theres a saftey in the bio's hidden that wont allow extreme cooling, I'm in wait mode for them as well.
Come on MSI send me something to make this work I have 2 threads up to show results on different cooling.

Msi x79a-gd65 8d BSOD and Ram issue, Code 67

Specs as follows:
Mobo: msi x79a-gd65 8d (Bios: latest 4.4)
CPU: 3960x
RAM: 2x8GB Corsair dominator platinum 1866MHZ (CMD16GX3M2A1866C10)
PSU: CM 1000watt
GPU: EVGA GTX 680 Classified 4GB
Mobo came back from MSI and they said there were bend pins, they fixed the bent pins. However the mobo still BSODs on stock settings and does not want to boot with 2x8Gb. It only boots with 1 stick.
I also get the code 67.
The mobo is only stable when I enable OC genie and run 1 ram module

MSI X79A-GD65 8D, RevoDrive X2 100GB issue!

2 days ago i bought my first MSI board ever, (mentioned above) along with a OCZ RevoDrive X2 100GB PCI-E for my OS part.
As i got windows installed, and up running i got Blue screen of Death on everey Windows Startup - this was fixed by moving the RevoDrive to the PCI-E 3,0 slot furthest away from the CPU (slot 5). Though the card is running VERY slow and unstable... making some HDtune tests is giving me 90-100mb/s (should be around 650-750 mb/s), the RevoDrive is also running very unstable (laggy system)... No problems detected with the new Kingston HyperX SATA SSD, why i suspect the MSI board is not yet compatible with such RevoDrives? (i've read alot of issues with MSI boards and OCZ RevoDrives)

BIOS Version V1.3
CPU: Intel Core i7-3960X Extreme
Memory: 32GB DDR3 1866mhz Kingston HyperX (8dimms)
First PCI-E 3.0 slot is filled with a ASUS GTX 580 DirectCU II VGA Adapter.

Been having issues with BSOD's and random boot issues (has trouble posting on occasion). Everyone of my error codes pointed to memory (0x1A for example). I had 4 sticks of 4GB ram in DIMM slots 1, 3 , 5, and 7. Memtest86+ ran smoothly overnight, however, Prime95 detected a hardware issue. Reading online told me that RAM is usually the culprit, so I switched down to 1 DIMM of RAM and so far Prime95 is running fine. I have heard of issues with slots 5 & 7. Can anyone confirm this? Also, this is just two packs of dual channel RAM. Would I be better off getting a quad channel pack?

so true, i have had many packs of dual channel memory kits that have different chips even though there the same make and model! (even though there the same type kits doesnt mean there the same chips on the ram modules, manufacturers will update them after only a few months of in some cases weeks as better ones become avalible or the ones there using run out)

X79A-GD65 (8D) - Get stuck at 12x cpu ratio multiplier or 1200MHz

Hi all. Just wanted to see if anyone else observed this with the new X79 chipset motherboard and the 3930K or 3960X sandy bridge-e cpu.
When trying to overclock the motherboard in any way
1) CPU Ratio set to any number
2) Per Core Maximum ratio / multiplier
3) OC Genie II
and then trying a CPU stress utility such as Prime95
The CPU gets locked at 1200Mhz, or 12 x 100Mhz and never goes higher than that. At the same time, the temperature sensors believe the CPU is locked at 91 degrees celsius. So I believe on this bios version of 1.2 on the MS-7760 motherboard (X79A-GD65), it thinks 91 degrees is too hot, and never goes above 1200MHz. I've also tried OC Genie and manual overclocking at bios version 1.1, and I cannot go over 1200Mhz.
Only at stock speeds (no overclocking), with the 3930K, at full CPU load tests with Prime95, it does go to 3500Mhz, or 35 x 100, correctly.
Right now I cannot overclock at all, whether with OC Genie, or manual cpu ratio multipliers.
Tweaktown and HWBot and several other websites have observed this. I'm running the latest 1.2 bios, and still get stuck at 12x.

Scratch that. It was happy yesterday, but first boot of the morning today and back to stuck at 12x/91C. Will changing other voltages remedy this? I read something on a review website suggesting this was a problem with the actual 3930K/3960X chips, and not necessarily a motherboard issue.
If I raise my cpu base clock from 100 to 125 and use a 36 multiplier, the machine forces the memory to run at 2,000 MHz, which according to the SPD shown in bios should be OK, but I couldn't get it to boot like that. Is there anything I can change to allow the machine to work in that configuration?
Edit: Just read yet another OC review (this time on HardwareSecrets) and found the following:
"The “correct” way of overclocking Intel CPUs with Turbo Boost technology is to change the clock multiplier that each core will use when the Turbo Boost technology kicks in."
I just tried changing the core ratio limit for all six cores to 45, setting the cpu ratio to auto, and leaving the core voltage at 1.375V, and it seems to work again. Boots into Win7, coretemp displays correct temperatures, and when I load the cpu using prime95, it hits 4.5GHz. I will try setting core voltage to auto also so that the cpu doesn't stay at 1.375V at idle when not necessary. I'd still like to OC the memory in theory - not sure how much boost I'd get by running the memory above 1600 MHz. I'll be using this PC for some computational fluid dynamics, so every bit of speed I can eek out of it will be put to use.
Edit 2: Auto core voltage works, vcore drops to 0.840V at idle, and idle temps drop back down closer to room temperature (using an Antec Sonata Elite case with a Corsair H80 water cooler, so slightly less airflow than ideal but I have the case fans optimized for now by relocating the system blower fan to a drive bay and adding a 120mm fan in the lower drive bays pulling air out of the side of the case).

X79A-GD65 (8D) memory issues.

Greetings Everyone! I've just joined this forum.
My issue is that i cant use all eight memory sockets without the board getting stuck in POST with the debug code 67.
I currently use the mainboard on this computer but with only 5 sticks in.
The memorysticks i use are two sets of "Corsair 16GB (4x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE Quad Channel" totalling 32GB.
I cannot add any of the remaining sticks in slot 4, 6 and 8. I've done it in all thinkable methods even test booting with every stick placed in every slot. took me a good two hours of testing.
I've also tried the sticks in a Gigabyte 1366 motherboard with four slots and both sets run on it.
I contacted Corsair and it looks like i have to send the memorysticks to them for a checkup but i wont know for sure until i hear from them later next week. I'll discuss the issue further with them then.
This is my current set-up (i point out that the parts i've changed are the Mainboard, CPU and memory from the 1366 computer)
Mainboard: MSI X79A-GD65(8D).
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820.
Memory: Two sets of Corsair Vengeance Quad channel 4x4Gb 1600MHz.
Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 OC.
Main boot device: WD 500Gb.
PSU: Corsair HX-650

Hi everyone and i must thank you for such speedy answers and support.
On the server issue. I do use alot of servers, not normal servers as you would think but gameservers. I like to run dedicated servers for like CS:S, Minecraft and such and i have startded playing ARMA:2 alot lately and i want to run them simultaneously for extended periods.
I was planning to install ARMA:2 in the RAM because of its extreme loading times when editing maps and missions. And also i like to run Firefox, Java, WinRAR and other background programs from the RAM.
I also want the amount of RAM for the pleasure of just having it. I understand how a primitive feeling that is but it feels good.
I understand now that i will never get all sticks to work but i do run 5 of them at this moment so i got 20GB of memory and already have set up a 12GB ramdisk.
I will discuss the issue with Corsair when we get in touch on the Support thread i've created hoping to send my modules to them and change them to a 8 stick kit and me paying the shipment and differance in price.
EDIT: Should i flash the BIOS anyway according to xmad's statement? Should i in that case default the BIOS and run only 2 sticks?
p.s. I have got to stop editing these posts....

X79A-GD65 (8D) -- Keep having issues

I've been having issues with this board from the beginning.

This always comes up when I start my computer. As of recently, it seems that it will post every other time I turn the computer on.
Anyone else have a similar issue? I'm using Bios version 1.3.

It is the first thing I see when it actually posts. Before the MSI splash screen.

This is right off G.Skill's Website for the RAM;
2. The default DIMM frequency depends on its SPD, which is the standard way of accessing information from a memory module. Under the default state, some memory modules for overclocking may operate at a lower frequency than the vendor-marked value.
3.G.SKILL guarantees module compatibility within this specific Quad Channel kit. Combining with other memory kit or module (even with same part number) is not recommended to avoid any compatibility issue.
The OP doesn't specify the exact RAM kit, so I can only speculate the combination of two kits may be part of the problem.
Added: 32GB G.Skill DDR2133 (8 x 4GB) two quad-channel kits # F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL
RAM calls for 1.6v's. Sandy-E platform is 1.5v's + or - 0.075v's.

X79a-GD65 8D - Booting issue

Previously, I was having a few issues with my board. I was having the common error of CPU posting as well as memory issues. Since then, these have all mostly subsided.
X79A-GD65 (8d)
Apevia Warlock 1100w
Intel i7-3820
G Skillz 16GB (4x4)
EVGA nVidia 550 Ti (Fermi)
My current issue occurs at start up. When the computer has been turned off for some time, and I want to start it back up - it will not. In order to start up my computer, I have to hit the CMOS Reset on the back (on the io board) and then start up my computer. It's a minor inconvenience - but I shouldn't have to.
The board originally shipped with possibly Bios 1.0-1.1 (as stated by others, mine has a sticker with a red dot)..... I've since flashed to the latest (which I believe is 1.6 - successfully).
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to remedy this?

Sorry I didn't wanted to hijack the post. I'm new on this forum, and on another foruns I've been (mostly cars and engine preparation forums) people used to not post new topics about the same subject.
Anyway I found my solution. I updated the board with a C1 3960X and found that my PSU were 8 pin cable were not working properly with this board, but starngely worked well with my other board (Gigabyte Z68X UD4), so I just swaped PSUs and I'm fine.

X79-GD65 (8D) and i7 3820 issues

I recently purchased a MSI X79-GD65 (8D) motherboard and an Intel i7 3820 CPU.
I have installed 4 sticks of 16GB memory.
When I turn the computer on, everything looks normal on the motherboard, except I get no video (have tried two video cards).
The CPU phase LED shows 3 bars, no digits on the debug motherboard LCD.
I have noticed that it is impossible to turn the power off and the PSU needs to be switched off.
From what I am reading it seems I have an old BIOS, (the chip has a red dot) and this is incompatible with the 3820.
I was wondering if anybody knows a workaround to allow me to get into BIOS to reflash the chip.
The fact that the BIOS chips are surface soldered doesn't help either.
Any ideas appreciated.

there are some serious key flaws with MSI.
Why is the BIOS chip soldered surface mount, if BIOS are always outdated, why not install a socket BIOS chip, this would then be a very straight forward fix
Why do I need a CPU installed to flash my BIOS, ASUS has this feature on their motherboard, this could easily be fixed in this case

I reread the manual which points to the url http://www.msi.com/service/cpu-support (which doesn't even work because of the missing trailing forward slash) and it pointed to the url http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X79A-GD65--8D-.html#/?div=CPUSupport.
Nothing on that page even hints there may be incompatibility issues.

MSI X79A-GD65 (8) Ram Compatability

I'm planning for my new rig with the MSI X79A-GD65 (8).
I found in the memory compatibility guide page 7 that the "G.Skill [RIPJAWSZ] F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL" kit that has 4 dimms as advertised.
filled the 8 dimms in the test
does it means i can use two kits of this with no problem???
please advise cause i'm on a harry to buy.

In fact, 8 memory modules is not a good idea at all.
There will be a huge bandwidth demand and you'll need to raise the voltages and/or to slow them down.
Otherwise you'll get into stability issues.

Regarding X79A-GD65(8D) 4.4 BIOS

I notice Station drivers is showing a 4.4 BIOS and since I am getting my 4930K tomorrow, I'd like to have the latest BIOS installed.
Having said that, I only really trust the BIOS files that I get from here so is there any chance of one of you fine gentlemen posting it :D

WAIT FOR THE MSI RELEASE. Don't download it from a third-party site. MSI might have removed it because there was an issue with the file.

MSI x79A-GD65 (8D) no post, no beep, no dispay

I have an MSI x79A-GD65 (8D) Motherboard

Samsung SSD 830-Series 128Gb
Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz
2x Nvidia 130GT
Frio Advanced CPU Cooler
Corsair TX 850w PSU
Fractal Design Define R3 casing
I just bought it. Everything new (except the nvidia cards). I installed everything in the right slot according to the User Guide. I turn the computer on and their is no output, no signal to the screen, no beeps, no LED Post.
I've disassebled the computer and reassembled it again with different configurations, 1 stick of RAM with the PSU, processor, and video card. changed videocard. tested the video cards on my old computer and they worked.
Everything runs as they should; all fans spinn, even the graphics card fan, the LED lights "DRR PHASE" and "CPU I/O PHASE" are blue (can't see the CPU PHASE one because its covered by some Military Class thingy).. the only LED not showing is the HDD one, but since it doesnt even boot its not active. No warning LEDs or so...
I figure its the PSU, but 850W should work fine...
anyone with a clue?

No problems with X79A-GD65(8D) here using a Corsair HX850, but, I did have trouble with a BB X II. Tried both a Corsair AX1200 and HX850. If the replacement mainboard acts the same, I have a Thermaltake here I can test with to rule out a compatibility theory. I can only guess the Corsair PSU you had had some odd intermittent function behavior & was faulty. I know the AX1200 & HX850 work, as I had them on other systems running with no problems.

MSI X79A-GD65 no POST and no POST LED

Long story short, I was redoing my watercooling loop and the pump wasn't getting fed water correctly, leading to the CPU overheating. I let the computer cool down and made sure water was moving through it properly before turning it back on.
When I turned it back on, my computer wouldn't post, and there was no debug LED code coming on. I checked the voltages with a multimeter, everything seemed to read correctly except for the CPU Vcore on the voltage checkpoint: it was reading 0. I checked the EPS connector and it was delivering 12v.
So what do you guys think, dead motherboard or dead CPU?
Specs:
Core i7 3820
MSI X79A-GD65 8D
SLI EVGA GTX 580
32gb Patriot Sector 7 1333 mhz RAM
OCZ Deneva 2 480gb

I would remove and reinstall the cpu. While it is out inspect the cpu socket for bent pins.
Also, inspect the VRM section of the mainboard. Do you see any burn marks? Swelled capacitors etc? Any burning smell from the area?
Finally remove and re-seat all of the components and wiring. Just in case.
If still no help, either RMA both components or borrow a cpu to test.

I bought my ssystem last week. All hardware came in and I build it up.
This is the hardware I have:
Mainboard: MSI X79A-GD65 (8D)
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K/3.2GHz 12MB LGA2011 Hexa-core
Case: Corsair CASE Graphite 600T
Power supply: Thermaltake SMART 650W/ 80plus
Cooler: Thermaltake Contac 39
SSD: Intel SSD 520 series 240GB
HDD: Seagate HI 3.5" 2TB Barracuda 7200RPM
Graphics: MSI N660Ti PE 2GD5/OC GTX660Ti
Memory: CORSAIR DDR3 1600MHz 16GB Kit 2x8GB Domi DDR3 - 240 pin - 1,5V - CL9 - 2x 8 GB Kit
DVD: DVD RW AD-5280 24x DL SATA Black Bulk 24x/24x - Serial ATA
The problem:
Everything looks fine all fans are spinning when I power on the computer. Keyboard lights up. I can even press del to enter setup.
I never get into setup though. It just displays error code B2 in the bottom right corner and a blinking cursor in the top left corner.
So always error B2. I see this error to on the LED's in the mainboard.
What I have tried:
- Boot the system with one memory module in Dimm socket 1
- Boot the system with on memory module in Dimm socket 3
- Place the graphic cards in another PCI-E socket
- Double checked the connector of the power on the graphic card, the mainboard, near the cpu and the graphic card power on the mainboard.
- Boot the system without any devices, just cpu, memory and graphic card.
- Reset the CMOS with the button on the back of the mainboard.
Can somebody help me solve my problem? I have no idea what to do anymore?
Oh: 1 thing just came to mind, I have connected all my system fans to my case instead of on my mainboard. I can manage the speed that way, can it have something to do that there is no Sysfan1 connected to the mainboard? (A bit far searched I guess).
Help would be much apreciated.

I just wanted to let the readers know that I found the problem.
I have tried to screw out my old Videocard and placed that in my new system. It booted without any problems.
The MSI Geforce GTX 660 Ti videocard caused my problem. I have read some things about this card to on the internet.
They tend to use to much power in this videocard so it can cause POST problems.
