X86 Generic/Text Only Printer Driver

Ive got a HP Thin Client that I need to setup a Epson TM88 Receipt printer on.
The issue is the software will only recognise this printer if its setup with the Generic/Text Only Windows Printer Driver which HP decided not to include in the standard image for the device.
Its running Windows 7 Embedded 32Bit.
Now ive looked online and seen heaps of people saying just install on a 32bit pc and then share it to get the driver.  trouble is every other pc and server is 64bit and I cant do that.
even my home pc's are 64 bit so no option there.
Does anyone know if there is a download available anywhere online for the .inf file to make this work?
Alternatively can anyone specify the location and file name for the driver file so I can at least know where to look if I can find someone who has Win7 x86 installed?

In Internet Explorer go to
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx  The Update Catalog will not work in any other browser.
Type Generic/Text Only in the Search box in the upper right and click on Search.
Results should be:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=Generic%2FText%20Only
The second listing with only Windows 8,Windows 8.1 Drivers is the x86 driver.  Although it states Windows 8 the version is 6.1.7600.16385 and dated  6/21/2006.

  • How to Install 64-bit "Generic / Text Only" print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server?

    Hi All,
In a nutshell, I need to Install the 64-bit Generic / Text Only print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server’s “Generic / Text Only 32-bit print queue.
The problem is that there is no Driver-Disk to get the drivers. I’ve been able to isolate 14 files related to the 64 bit drivers from a Windows 7 x64 computer and copy them to a temp folder on the Windows 2003 x32 server. When I try to add the 64 bit driver
to the Windows 2003 x32 server,  it wants a *.inf file, which I don’t have and can’t find.
Because Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP, my client is replacing all of their Point-of-Sale Windows XP x32 systems with Windows 7 x64. They use Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) to connect to a Windows 2003 x32 server to use the POS system. The
POS software redirects LPT1 back to the local Generic / Text Only printer. This works great for XP x32.
When we use the Terminal Services POS software on the new Windows 7 x64 system, none of the labels print out because it’s redirected in 32-bit back to the local Windows 7 x64 Generic / Text Only 64-bit printer.
This will be a huge issue for me if I can’t get this to work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help! -Rob

Suggestions? I don't have a copy of 32-bit Windows to test on.

How about if you configure an old daisywheel printer? (and you might have to get the driver from MS, they've dropped a lot of legacy stuff from the install media and images) If it works, you could probably render to PDF, then get Acrobat to cough up the plain text.
Using primitive printer GDIs used to work in Frame, and was entertaining to observe, because Frame would constrain itself to the currently "installed" type wheel/ball font-wise, and the spacing limitations of the printer.
I never played with it enough to see what would happen if you attempted something impossible for the printer, like rotated text in a table.

  • Firefox printing incorrectly to printer with Generic /Text Only driver

I have a printer that uses the Generic / Text Only driver, and everytime I try and print to it with Firefox, a carrage return is added after every space. For example this text:

  • Sales order texts - only printed correctly on repeat print out

    Hi all,
We have an issue, where on the first printout through VF31 of a sundry billing document, the material sales text maintained in French is not printed, even though the language in the customer's master data is French, the material sales text in the sales document is maintained in French and in VOTXN the access sequences are maintained for all languages.
I first checked this post Sales order text determination which unfortunately didn't resolve the issue (although a very interesting discussion).
The strange part is, when we do a repeat print out through VF31 selecting procession mode 2 (Repeat Processing) the document is printed WITH the material sales texts correctly. For me even stranger is that the repeat printout uses the same output type as the initial printout. I am now officially lost. Would any of you have any idea, where the issue lies here?
I would try to change some setup in VOTXN, but knowing that the repeat print out does print the texts correctly, let's me think there might be a different issue.
    Any idea are very welcome.
    Thank you in advance!
    Alexis
Edit: when we copy the text and make it "Dutch", for some reason it's printed out correctly on the first printout. Although I cannot find any restriction, where Dutch is specified specifically, nor do I see where French is excepted specifically.

    Guys --
    Thanks for the help!

We use the A/R Invoice (Draft) as our packing slip and skip Delivery module altogether.
I realize this is a bit unconventional but seems to work best for our business practice.

  • Top margin when printing with Generic text driver

I created a report in Character Mode and tryed to print it using the Generic Text windows printer driver, but the Reports is adding a non-specified top margin. I already removed all the margins of this report in the Layout Editor but the problem continues. What can I do to solve this problem ?

Is it shifting only down, or to the right as well?
What are the bleed an slug settings, and are you including slug and bleed in the print?
Is the dialog set to print in upper left corner, and if so does it change when you print centered?

    Hello folks,
I have been facing the same problem until right now. All above suggested methods failed (as it did for Jeff0123) . But after long research on that issue I think I found the reason (but no proper solution yet).
MS Windows 8 and 2012 use a new printer driver generation based on XPS. Which means drivers like "generic text-only" won't work properly depending on the method the data is sent to the printer. In my case the
same way like Jeff0123 tried to access the printers.
    See link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2779300
One solution might be to use API calls. I have also found a site which shows an example project for thermal slip printing. The VB.NET source code there features a wrapper class for all API calls. The functions you find behave pretty similar to the ones of
the posted C# code example of Jeff0123. I did a small test so far and for my needs that works fine.
Although the page is in German you can find the mentioned class by searching for "Public
Class RawPrinter". Beside the comments the class methods are written in English. You find the class here: http://www.vbarchiv.net/tipps/tipp_2375-kassenbon-drucker-mit-vbnet-oder-c-per-esc-pos-befehle-ansprechen.html
Hope that might help for at least a few of you. So long!

  • Printing Crystal report using Generic Text output - formating lost

Hi. I have an accounting system using Crystal to generate it's business forms, in particular invoicing as reports. Recently we have installed new printing system that needs generic text to capture and create the business forms (invoices) into a graphic and text. When Crystal sends data to Generic Text Printer, you can view it ok as a preview but it moves text around , bunches it up and formatting is never the same for two documents. I need resolution as the printing software needs fixed text in a specific location within the data file.  Is there a way in Crystal to format fields so they dont move the data and bunch it up. The business forms written in Crystal have sub reports that are supressed if no data is to be printed, but finding text is moving and hard to capture a fixed location in text file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your responses.
Yes, I'm using a bundled version that came with VS 2005.
I'd love to download this update, but I cannot get there! I don't have an login and password for this site, and I don't know how to get them.
This is all I'd found about this issue in this thread:
    http://www.crystalreportsbook.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=844
"I opened an incident with Business Objects.  They said there is not a way to do what we want to do with the Crystal Reports for .NET assemblies.  They are going to implement a way to create a postscript file and include it in Service Pack 3 of Crystal XI Release 2.  They would not say how the postscript will be created (ie, ExportToDisk or any other method), only that they would include it in CRXI Release 2 SP3 which they intend to release sometime this coming winter. "
"Just an update...this has been fixed in Crystal XI Release 2 Service Pack 3.
I just finished testing, and it now allows you to print to a file without prompting the user.  We are now able to create a postscript file."
    Thanks,

  • Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?

Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?
I had a very difficult time getting my new HP Officejet Pro 8620 functioning as well as it does now.  I just tried scanning something as editable text for the first time and it ended up being scanned as a pdf.  At one point in my various tries there was a note on the printer screen that I did not have the HP OCR software installed.
This may be because the resolution to my installation problems with the HP Officejet Pro 8620 seems to have been reverting to operating with the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package instead of the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg installation package.
I do not, therefore, have the HP Scan application on my computer now which is where HP says its OCR software can be found.
So what I'm afraid of is that I'm now running well with the HP-Apple driver but if I do go back and install the HP Officejet Pro v12.32.0 driver software with the HP installer, in order to access the OCR softwware in HP Scan application, I'll mess up everything else.
Is there any chance that the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package I have installed also includes OCR software?  If so where can I find instructions for activating it and using it with the HP 8620's scanner?
Or can I only get OCR capability with the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package?
Any experience with this?  Should I leave well enough alone?  Or can I somehow install the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package without messing up my current functionality?
    Thanks
    Steve

The printer driver that is installed automatically from Apple doesn't scan. The scanner part can be accessed through Image Capture, but I don't think that does any OCR on the scan. You'd need a separate program. As you noted, many of the bundled software programs have OCR built-in (albeit limited). From my experience, that is only activated when you scan to "searchable" PDF or something similar. You would then have to extract the text from the PDF.
I don't have an HP printer/scanner, so take this all with a grain of salt.
If you can just install the Scanner utilities, that shouldn't affect the printer portion.
Your other option would be to purchase separate OCR software. Unless you need to scan lots of documents into text, you should further investigate installing the HP scan utilities.

  • Need to export windows 7 x64 builtin printer driver to a x86 print server

     Hi,
We're planning our migration to windows 7 x64. But our environment doesn't have a x64 server neither a Server 2008; we only have x86 server 2003.
We are having trouble with printer Konica Minolta Bizhub 161f. I spoke with Konica support, they advised me they do not have a x64 driver for this model yet. The tech told me i can use the
HP LaserJet Family PCL5 driver built-in windows 7. I connected the network printer and selected the built-in driver from the list. So far this works as a charm.
Here's my concern, in order to upload x64 drivers to a 32bit server, i need to first to connect the printer from the print server to my x64 computer. But when i try this, i don't have the
prompt to select a driver from win7 built-in drivers. When i choose connect to... it asks me to locate a INF file on my computer. I don't have the INF file since its built-in windows. I tried to look within Windows's file system, under "Windows\INF\" but i
    couldn't find what i need.
    1. How can i export or find a built-in driver file within windows 7?
2.Is there is a better way to upload x64 drivers to a 32bit Server 2003?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Benoit

    Hi Benoit,
    Thanks for the post.
Here is how we find the built-in driver file within Windows 7:
    1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows X64\Drivers\Version-3\{Printer Driver Name}, in the right panel, check the value of "InfPath". Now we will get the specific path of INF file.
    2. On a x32 Win2k3 server
    Click on Start, Control Panel
    Double click on Printers
    Press the ALT button
    or
Click on Organize, Layout, Menu Bar
Click on File, Run as administrator, Server Properties...
    Click on the Drivers tab
    Click on Add...
    Click on Next
Uncheck the 'x86 Type 3 - User Mode'
Check the 'x64 Type 3 - User Mode'
    Click on Have Disk...
Click on Browse... (to the x64 Win7 machine)
    \\X64Win7\c$\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prn*.inf_{GUID}
    For example:
    \\X64Win7\c$\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prnhp001.inf_5fecfc5e\prnhp001.inf
    Click on Open
    Click on Ok
    Under "Printers"
Select the print driver that you want to install
    Click on Next
    Click on Finish
Now you should be able to see the x64 print drivers installed under the "Processor" column.
    Click on Close
In this case, we need to pay attention to the match of INF file name. As the Konica Minolta Bizhub 161f 32-bit printer driver has been installed on Windows Server 2003, but you try to install HP LaserJet Family PCL5 64-bit printer driver. The two INF files
will not be the same, which causes the x64 driver can be instaled as an additional driver. So we need to change the INF file name to match the 32-bit one. I cannot guarantee that the method can totally work on this case as it may involve some custom settings
from printer manufacturer. If needed, I suggest you contact Konica Support when you go through it.
    Hope this helps.
    Miles

  • Printer driver switches to Generic PostScript Printer

We added a DYMO Turbo 400 printer to our network using a D-link DP-301U USB Print server.
I can see it using AppleTalk and Bonjour but when I try to Select a driver there is no DYMO listed. I choose other and navigate to Library/Printers/DYMO and choose one of the drivers, but after selecting apply it switches back to the Generic PostScript Printer.
I have also tried to use LPD and put in the IP but get the same result.
Any ideas why I can't add this printer.
    thanks
    darock

The 2600n series uses host-based printing and will not print over LPR or IPP. The host computer will only communicate with the printer over BonJour which won't work across subnets unless you have Wide-Area DNS-SD setup on your network. Leopard's print server only prints to printers over LPR or IPP but can advertise LPR and IPP queues via BonJour.

  • Looking for the generic pcl printer driver

I'm aware of how to add this printer through sys prefs/printers. However I'd like to script it to make it more flexible in my org. Only problem is I'm having a difficult time locating the generic pcl printer driver on my system (although it must be there, as the printer is connected/working). • Since updating to 10.6.8 my Canon LBP3100B printer is only printing lines and no text??

    Hi there
I hope someone is able to help me. I recently did a Software update to 10.6.8 and my Canon printer LBP3100B is now only printing lines & pictures (no text)
I had a look on Canon's website and their newest driver is for 10.7 but i'm only on 10.6.8??

I have exactly the same problem since last weeks's 10.6.8 update, but with a Canon ip4500 printer.
Unfortunately,  the v3.31 CAPT driver mentioned above is not for 10.6.8 or my printer, but thanks for trying Pahu.
The CAPT v3.31 driver does work on 10.6.8 but the driver is for certain laser models of Canon printers and All In Ones, such as the LBP3100B that the OP has. I never said it was for the inkjets so I'm not sure how you thought that I did.
    deibu wrote:
There doesn't seem to be any sign yet of Canon updating their 10.6.8 drivers, and the latest Apple update today didn't help either, although it apparently included a bug fix for other printer problems.
The 10.6.7 and subsequent 10.6.8 updates did not introduce the 'no text printing' issue that the Canon laser devices experienced. If the iP4500 is not printing text then it may have simply run out of black ink. And note that this model has two black tanks. The PGI-5Bk which is for printing text and the CLI-8Bk which is used for photos. So run a nozzle test to see if all the colours are printing correctly.
If both black tanks are working fine then try removing the printer from Print & Fax and adding it again. This can often help when printers stop working. Also, restarting the printer itself can often help resolve non printing issues.

Without your printer model numbers, readers can only give you vague general directions.
    System Preferences > Print&Fax > ...
... shows a list of all set-up printers.
If you are having serious problems, it makes sense to "Reset the Printing System" (which also removes all printer set-ups) and add back each printer. It only takes a few minutes.
