Xbox 360 and wired connection

I'm trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my Airport Extreme using a wired ethernet connection. However, the Xbox 360 always says "MTU Failed". I've reserved an IP address for my Xbox 360, and tried opening ports 88 and 3074 for UDP and 3074 for TCP as Microsoft suggests, and I even tried using the IP assigned to the Xbox 360 as the NAT host, but it still doesn't work. I also tried connecting my Xbox 360 directly to the modem and it worked perfectly so I know it's not an issue with my ISP. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I tried searching, but it seems everyone's problems are when trying to connect the Xbox wirelessly and disappear when they connect the Xbox 360 directly to the Airport Extreme.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, i have it sorted
MTU setting should be:
Primary DNS server -> your router address (which could be 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 etc.. depend on your number, everybody is different, check underneath your router box)
Secondary server: Your ip address, can be found in -> safari: type www.whatsmyip.org (don't give this away!!)
now it should pass all the test.. enjoy guys

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Xbox 360 will not connect to WRT54G Wired connection

OK I just bought a xbox 360 and the Linksys wrt54g router I updated the firmware on the router and have 2 pcs currently connected and working great i also have a wii connected wirelessly and it works great.
I connected the xbox 360 to the router and it doesnt even detect that its connected. Ive tested the cables tried 4 different ones and nothing i unhooked the router and just ran the xbox 360 to the cable modem and it worked fine so i know its not the xbox or the cables its the router thats giving me probs. i called linksys was on the line with them for 2 hours and they couldnt tell me nothing. Ive read that ppl have this router and there xboxs work fine
on microsofts site this router is listed as compatible. im lossing my patience and getting very mad about this.
no lights come on the router and the xboxs say the cable is not connected when running to the router but when connected direct to the cable modem works fine.
can someone please help or shed some light on this i would be greatful
    thank

I amp having the same problem. I tried what you had said about using the xbox settings but no luck. I found a link that told me to open these ports:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediacenter/firewall.mspx#EMG
It says Inbound and outbound, but I have no idea what that means.  I basically went to Port Range Forwading (I have the BEFSX41 wired router by the way.). It would only allow me to put in 10 .  Also there is no incoming and outgoing!!?? So if there was just 1 number for the port I put that number in both Start and end, and if it had 2 number I put the 1st one as start and the second one as end.
Can anyone help me. This is redamndiculous that a person has to go through this much trouble to hook up an xbox 360.
Also I have a SD216 switch. I don't know if that matters at all.

  • Xbox 360 does not connect to Airport Express wireless network

I'm at my wits ends. I got a my son a wireless adapter for Christmas and for the life of me cannot get it to work. We have looked at all the discussion forums on the internet and did A LOT of trial and error and still to connection. On one occasion the xbox 360 wireless adapter saw the network and once it tried to connect is dropped.
I have a Wii, two windows PC's, a printer and a PowerMac all connected to my wireless router. The xbox and the Airport Express both have the latest firm ware update.
These are some of the things I have noticed and tested:
    1. Connection is Cable Modem>Vonage Router>Airport Express....wireless to Xbox360
    2. I have taken the vonage router out to go
Cable Modem>Airport Express...wireless to Xbox360 and still no luck.
    3. I was suspecting a double NAT and contacted Comcast to see if I could put the cable modem in bridge mode and they couldn't help me.
    4. The network is open (no security)
    5. The wireless adapter is a steady red...then when I tell it to find the network it drops out (LED turns off)
    6. I have tried to see if I have a double NAT but tracing in the network utility does not show anything.
    7. I have tried to place the Airport express in bridge mode and when I updated, it doesn't not come back up and I have to do a hard reset to communicate to it again.
    8. There was one instance when the wireless adapter LED was green for about 15 secs and when we tried to connect it dropped out completely (no LED light).
    9. I know it works because in the various forums I have read that people have it working.
I called xbox support and they were not very helpful...wouldn't even search similar cases...I have tried everything I could think of and I'm lost any assistance is appreciated.

    Tesserax,
What is the make/model of the Comcast-provided modem? How about the Vonage router? Is this router also wireless? Finally, I assume that prior to introducing the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), the modem & Vonage router were working properly ... correct?
Thanks for your interest in helping me. To answer your questions:
    1. The comcast make and model for the cable modem is Scientific American Model#DPX2203
    2. The vonage router is ethernet hard wired connected between the cable modem and the apple express wireless route. The vonage router is model#VDV21-VD
    3. With the exception of the wireless connection between the Xbox 360 and AX; everything works fine.
    4. The AX is running Apple firm ware 6.3
In the discussion I have read of similar problems and have tried them all to no avail. I'm sure the is a fix to this problem because of people in the discussion groups have had the same issues. I don't suspect the wireless router because it has a steady red light and only turns off when we do the network test or scan for networks.

  • Xbox 360 and wrt54gs 7.2 problem

i read the faqs and serached the forums i did not find an answer to what i am looking for i have a xbox 360 and i can not connect it to my computer for media center and it can not connect to xbox live i can use the xbox 360 connect directly to my cable modem and it connects to xbox live just fine so the problem must be the router. will some one please help me!

Connect your computer straight to the modem and download the firmware file for your router from www.linksys.com/download After downloading the firmware connect your modem to the Internet port on the router and connect your computer to port1 on the router...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds.Plug the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button for 30 Seconds.Release the reset button.
Open the Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the Address Bar and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin all in lower cases and then click on ok. Now click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' to select the extracted/uncompressed .img or .bin file and click on "Upgrade"...After doing the firmware upgrade you have to reset this router again for 30 seconds.
Re-configure your router... forward the port nos on to your pc for the assinged ip address & reduce the MTU size to 1365 & you will be able to play the games wired as well as wireless.

  • Question w/ xbox 360 and computer

Hi, I have a question, I tried searching but couldn't hit the right key word I guess. Anyways I was wondering..My time capsule is connected directly to the internet and sets up as a new wireless network. When my computer connects to the wireless it runs fine, but my xbox 360 is through a hardwire into the time capsule. Once I start playing my 360 on xbox live it slows my internet down on my computer to virtually unusable. I was wondering has anyone ever experienced this or know what is wrong? Thanks
    Matt

my computer is wireless and my xbox 360 is wired. direct connection from wall to time capsule. I am running on bridge mode, is this the problem? When I switch to ip it gives me a double NAT error. I am using university internet which requires me to supply an ethernet ID for my computer. Only one connection will run at a time.

  • Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000

    Hello,
I'm having quite some trouble with the new E3000 and my Xbox 360 Slim Model. I thought that the E3000 had like 4 antennas which should broaden the SSID Broadcast/Wifi Signal. Now when I try to scan for wireless networks on my Xbox360 it can't find the signal the E3000 is broadcasting. The E3000 is on the bottom floor and the 360 is on the first floor. Before this I had a WRT54G Linksys router and that one had no problem getting signal to the Xbox360. The E3000 shouldn't have this problem right, because it has more antennas. Another weird thing is that my laptop, which almost sits next to my 360, has no trouble at all finding the SSID/WiFi broadcast...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I just want to connect my E3000 to my Xbox 360.
PS: I have upgraded to the latest firmware.

Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000Bad news guys. Whatever you were told about the xbox 360 being compatible with wireless n at 5GHz was probably misleading. Please work through the following link: Work your way through this:- http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/114-troubleshooting-and-improving-wireless
Pay attention to the following, and I quote from the above link:
"...The Internal Wireless N Adapter for the Xbox 360 S 250GB
As well as all of the points above to consider you also need to be aware that some Wireless N routers can work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz or both. <<<<The new internal Wireless N adapter will only work at 2.4Ghz>>>> so ensure you have this enabled. It has also been found that in some cases it does not work with WEP and prefers WPA2-PSK (sometimes called Personal) with AES encryption (not TKIP) so in summary for the internal wireless adapter these configureations seem to work best-"
We could have saved everyone a lot of time if the XBOX 360 support would have just admitted this from the start. NO 5GHZ compatibility from XBOX Wireless N adapter.
If there is a way to upgrade the wireless N adapter in the XBOX please post for the rest of us.

  • Xbox 360 and WRT300N

    Hi,
I have an xbox 360 and a wireless router (WRT300N).  My xbox 360 can connect to the router wirelessly and i get a great signal, but when i try to play online, for example, halo 3 slayer games,  my game turns all glitchy and disorted.  My character gliches through walls and my game freezes when I die.  I have tried with other routers at friend'shouses and the games work perfectly, so i know it is my router (WRT300N) and not my xbox 360. What can I do to fix this?

1st, open up the router user interface. To do this, open up a web browser and on the address bar type the numbers 192.168.1.1 (username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin).
Then go to the Applications and Gaming Subtab. Input the following values:
    Application: XBOX
    Start: 3074
    End: 3074
    Protocol: Both
    IP Address: 192.168.1.5
    - Save Settings
2nd, assign a MANUAL IP Address value to your XBOX:
    IP: 192.168.1.5
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Then save the settings and go ahead , have fun.

  • Using the Airport with an Xbox 360 and such

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a new Airport Extreme N for my home since my linksys router is being stubborn. I have an xbox 360 and i was wondering if it worked well with it. What i mean is it faster with the Extreme and is it very reliable. Thanks guys for helping me out and have a Merry Christmas. --- Vinny the Pooh

I just got the Airport for Christmas and it only took a couple of minutes to set up with my xbox 360 and all of my computers connected right away. The signal is twice as good as the signal with my linksys router was. Much better for xbox live. Good luck

  • Xbox 360 and apple airport ip address HELP PLEASE!

hey i just got an xbox 360 and i got the wireless internet adapter than microsoft makes to pick up my wireless internet. I have an ADSL ethernet modem that is plugged into my Airport, which is streaming in my house. So on my xbox i got the test for the wireless connection to work. then the test for the IP address failed. I have looked online to find the IP address, but i dont know which one i need (of the computer? the airport? the modem box?) and the subnet mask, and gateway, and the DNS numbers. can anyone help please? i have mac os X if that helps

i think that's what i mean. sorry im so confusing. i have a mac laptop, which is connected to my wireless network at home, which is an apple airport (you know the little white box that plugs into the electrical outlet) which is also plugged into an ADSL ethernet modem box from US Robotics (which is my cable internet). so then i will be able to find the IP of the airport where? network settings? and last thing, if that is the gateway for the xbox, what is the subnet mask, and the actual ip address of the xbox?
also, if this helps, when i look at Network, under System preferences, Airport is the network, and under TCP/IP it says that the IP Address is 10.0.1.2, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the Router is 10.0.1.1

  • Amazon Q&A - E3200 - Default Nat Type for xbox 360 and ps3

    Date: Sep 5, 2012 4:08:21 PM PDT
    Linksys E3200 High-Performance Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router
the nat type for xbox 360 and ps3, what is it when you set the router up out of the box? are the nat types open moderate or strict

Hi there. It actually depends if the gaming consoles ports are not blocked by your ISP. Moderate NAT type limits your connection playing online games, Strict does not allow you any connection at all while Open allows you to play with everyone online. Have you had a router before with Open NAT on the gaming consoles? Try to check without the router by going directly to the modem and see if your NAT type is open or strict or moderate. If ever modem is fine and it is the router not working right you can port forward ports on the router. I found these usual ports online, for XBOX live:TCP and UDP ports:  80-88, 3074-3074, 4267-4269. For PS380, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

  • Problem with my xbox 360 and ps3

I have an The Sound Blaster? X-Fi Platinum Fatalty with front PanelAnyway, I'm trying to hook up my 360 to my x-fi so I can get surround sound. I plug the optical cable to the digital input on the front Panel digital-in then?
?when I turn my 360 on the initial screen I get sound but thats it. No sound?in the dashboard or in games.in the 360 I select the digital output and turned?on dashboard sounded, but there is still no sound. :mansad::mansad:

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have tried restoring the network settings and i have restarted router. I am just so disappointed because my ipod is the only one out of all my friends and family that does this(I know about 15 people with ipod touches and one with iphone). My router works fine with my ps3, xbox 360, and laptop. By the way, its not just my router. It does it with any of them. I have had friends that say their ipod has problems with album artwork too. And, if it makes a difference, it started doing this after i got an update via itunes. Also, the restores made it take longer to reconnect to the router so i really think its just my ipod. I guess im just gonna have to deal with it. Maybe version 3.0 will fix it just as 2.1 or so destroyed it.
One thing i just dont understand is why geek squad did what did to my ipod. I told them that it wouldnt stay connected to my router and the guy tested my battery and hard drive. What does this have to do with that? He also told me to restore it. I mean, no offense to geek squad, but my brother could go in there and teach these guys how to do this. He didnt go to college for this stuff either but he built all of our computers and anytime we have a problem, he knows exactly what to do. He also owns his own computer business and helps people fix their computers. The only problem is that he hates apple so he knows nothing about it. Apple is getting so annoying, coming out with newer versions of things every few months and making so much crap that no one needs. I just cant wait until microsoft steps it up and makes a touch screen, internet and email compatible, zune. Sorry, this is just so annoying and disappointing.

  • BT Infinty, Xbox 360 and a Mac book pro! Slooooooo...

    Hi all,
Iv just switched from talk-talk where I was receiving around 2 mbps. I was delighted when I ran the speedtest.net and saw 37mbps with BT infinity!!
However! Everything seems so much slower with it, web pages take ages before even loading! Im running Firefox on a 2011 Mac book pro.
And to make things worse, im now experiencing serious lag on COD on the Xbox as well as the whole thing just disconeccting(NAT setting show as open).
Highly fustrating and it just dosent make sense! Could it be BTs router?? Im running everything wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Sudadipps,
I would try the Xbox on a wired connection and see if that makes a difference, also try and check your NAT settings on the xbox.  Best option for NAT is open, if its anything but that the its a router issue and some configurations need to be amended.
Remember that using multiple wireless signals halves the data received via wifi.
    Example
Wifi N signal can receive upto 300 mbps
if you have say 5 devices using wifi to the router than you would do (300/5=60)
Which means each device gets a max connection data rate to the router of 60 mbps.
Also to factor in is Floors/Walls/Other wifi devices (E.g. DECT Phones) can also reduce that wifi data rate down futher

  • Xbox 360 and nas storage for streaming media

    Hi there,
I have an xbox 360 and watch movies on it through my network that are stored on my home PC, this means that I have to have my home PC on whenever I want to watch a movie. What I would like to do is have a NAS storage device that I can store all my movies on that is on the same notwork so that I can then watch the movies on my xbox without the need for the PC being on. Obviously I would want the NAS to be seen by the computer's I have on my network also.
I way thinking about getting this item Western Digital - My Book Live 1TB External Home Network Drive - Black but am not sure if the xbox will see it? or is there a better solution for around the same price which is expandable?
    Thanks.

You'd have to get a real home or business NAS product to stream to the 360 and those are not in the same price range as the product you are looking at.
