XI versus R3 workflow

Hi,
I need to create a new Object in R/3 system (4.6C)that represents items that are being approved via a workflow cycle and then influence our SD data.
What is the recommended workflow to use in these cases ? XI or R3 ? is the XI workflow applicable for this scenario ?
Thank you,
Carmit.

Hi Carmit,
For the process automation SAP's BPM(Business Process Management) is having 3 components
1. SAP Business Workflow
2. ccBPM Cross Component BPM (Part of XI)
3. AdHoc Workflow (Part of EP)
Now the question is to use ccBPM or Business Workflow ?
Based on your requirement you can choose your option.
If you want to co-ordinate your activity across multiple
platform and application, you can go for XI ccBPM.
and you can generate it in BPEL and use it wherever required.
And if you dont want it in multiple applications, SAP Business Workflow will do the job.
Please see link for difference between BPM and Workflow.

  • CAF / GP  Versus Business Workflow

    Hello All...
When would you use Guided Procedures versus Business Workflow?  Are there any implementations using Guided Procedures for an Enterprise Class Production application?
    Thanks!
    BK

BWF is an Abap WF engine highly coupeld with R3. So it'll work very well WF procedures that SAP has predefined. It can leverage SAP business objects interfaces and rules in a natively integrated environment with SAP data layer like HR infotypes and Org structures. BWF runtime is proven and robust and loaded with tools. Its design time is scary and complex to work with.
GP is a Process engine whose technical foundation Netweaver Java WF engine. It can also integrate with the Abap WF but that's messy. While it'll work with existing SAP rules and data, it's more appropriate for new process-based scenarios or composite processes (the collaborative kind or innovative kind like SAP likes to call them, those processes that gravitate around ERP and are cross-departmental, cross-functional and cross-systems) and non-SAP environment. GP runtime is new and lack the maturity and toolset compared to BWF. Its design time is easier to work with than BWF.

  • Custom versus standard workflows

    Hello All,
I would like to know how do we come to know whether a workflow is standard or custom workflow.
I.e I would like to list the list of Standard workflows versus list of custom workflows. (There exists some table like WF_ITEM_TYPES).
Also how can we know list of standard workflows which were customized.
    Please let me know.
    Kind regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi,
The easiest way to tell whether an item type has been customized or not would be to use a simple text comparison tool. Download the item type from the database and save it. Then open the original .wft file that ships with the product and compare the two files.

  • Difference SAP Business Workflow and ccBPM

    Hi,
well both mentioned are for connecting Applications. In my point of view there is only a difference in...
    SAP Business Workflow:
connects Applications via Tasks across SAP-Systems
    ccBPM:
with help of PI it should connect Applications via Adapter and is only message-driven!
    am I right?!
Can someone please explain how to implement Business Workflow in SAP-Systems?! I am only aware of ccBPM!

  • New features Workflow 2.6.2 - iAS9 Rel 2

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between :
Oracle Workflow 2.6.2 installed as stand alone
    versus
Oracle Workflow 2.6.2 installed with the iAS9 Release 2 (workflow is installed automatically when installing
Oracle9iAS InterConnect 9.0.2 Hub and Developer Kit).
Are there any new features added to Workflow when using the iAS9 rel 2 ?
Do some things work differently, for example using the java functin activity agent. As this works using Advanced Queing.
I already looked in the ias doc, but didn't find much.
    Tnx,
    Chris.

The 2 releases are essentially the same, the main difference is that in iAS 9.0.2 you can leverage Single Sign on Oracle Internet Directory integration.
A new feature introduced in 9.2 was the Oracle Workflow Manager component of Oracle Enterprise Manager, which you can use to submit background engines and other workflow system processes, and has graphs of workflow item metrics and agent activity.

  • Change Capture For Oracle EBS Sources

    Hello,
I am trying to understand how the change capture process happens in DAC.
For Siebel sources, I understood that it happens through 'image' tables. And there are some docs/info available on this.
I am just wondering how this happens in case of Oracle EBS and other sources. I think there is no image table concept with these sources.
Can anyone point me to some info on this..?
    Many Thanks..!

Yes, for EBS, PeopleSoft and other non-Siebel sources, the change capture process is usually based on a form of "LAST UPDATE DATE" on the source system tables. This is is usually compared against the "LAST REFRESH DATE" in the DAC for the source and target tables. This can be seen if you look at the Session overrides for the FULL versus INCREMETAL workflows/sessions. Of course, this process may differ based on the nature of the source system. I believe certain sources that do not have a useable "LAST UPDATE DATE" may require a full extract each time. The best approach would be to go through the vanilla ETL code for FULL versus INCREMENTAL sessions.
if this was helpful, please mark the answer as correct.

  • R3 workflow versus Netweaver

    Hi,
We have implemented several workflows on the R3 business workflow platform. As they are not reliable, we will need to take some action to redesign the workflow solution. The basic question I have is : Should we stick to the R3 workflow solution or should be move into the Netweaver technology...
Has anyone already done a comparison between the two technologies ? Or does someone have practical experience with the netweaver workflow solutions ?
    Thx,
    Dirk Struyf

    Hi Dirk,
Well, before answering your query, I would like to know what is this NETWEAVER WORKFLOW SOLUTIONS???Are you refering to GUIDED PROCEDURES??? Or some other technology.
If you ask me the difference, basic workflow remains the same, expect the interface...I mean, in 4.7, we call the normal ABAP Dynpro application on execution of workitem. And in ECC+, we call the Web based applications on execution of workitem. Ultimately, the foreground stuff changes. I dont see any difference in WORKFLOWS level.

  • Where can I find various high level examples of workflows being used

I am about to start a project with TCS 3.5 and have been participating in the Adobe webinars to help learn components and specific techniques but what I am lacking is an understanding of various workflows I can model my project after or take bits from various sources. Why start with Framemaker in this workflow versus RoboHelp or even Word? Questions like this I think come from experience with the process and I am thinking that what I am getting myself into is a chessgame with all these pieces and don't want to paint myself into a corner by traveling down one route. I have seen this graphic:
    And this one:
    And this one:
But they are too generic and do not contain enough information to really understand the descision making process one must go through on various projects.
Can we have a series of webinars made, all with the underlining theme of defining a working process or workflow, by having guests describe how they have or are using this suite in real life on their own projects? One that might include a graphic showing the routes taken through the suite with reasons why?
My project hopes to make a single source internal site that will tie together various 3D portable industrial coordinate metrology systems (hardware and software). It would be used as a dispersal site for help, communications between users and SME, OEM information, QA requirements, established processes, scripting snipet downloads, statistics, and training (including SOJT). Portable industrial metrology has 8 different softwares that are used and right now about 8 different instruments. These include laser trackers and radars, articulated arms, scanners, structered white and blue light to name a few. The softwares include Spatial Analyzer, Veriserf, CompIT, eMscon, AXYZ to a few there as well. I want to be able to participate and add content to an internal Sharpoint site, push content to users for stand-alone workstations, ePub, capture knowledge leaving the company through attrition, develop easy graphic rich job aid sheets, and aid in evaluations of emergent software and hardware. I would also like to leave the option open to use the finished product as a rosetta stone like translator between the software packages; doing this is the equivelent of doing this in these other software pacages for example.

PDF is definately a format I want to include, to collaborate with other divisions and SME for one reason, but also for the ease in including 3D interactive target models with in it and portability. I plan on being able to provide individual PDFs that are very specific in their topics and to also use them to disperse user guides, cheat sheets or job aids... something the user may want to laminate on their own and keep with them for reference, printed out. Discussion in these sheets would be drasticly reduced to only the elements, relying heavely on bullet points or steps, usfull graphs, charts and tables... and of course illustrative images. I am thinking that these should be downloadable buttons to print on each topic section, not in a general apendix or such. They would hopefully be limited to one page, double sided 8x10.
The cheet sheet would have a simplistic flow chart of how or where this specific topic fits in the bigger picture,
    The basic steps,
    Illustrations, equipment, setup
Software settings for various situations in a table or chart,
Typical result graph to judge with,
Applicable QA, FAA regulation settings or concerns,
    Troubleshooting table,
    Topic SME contact info
On the back, a screen shot infographic of software process
The trouble here is that I have read that FM has a problem sometimes in succesfully transfering highly structured or formatted material to RoboHelp. Does this then mean that I would take it from FM straight to PDF?
Our OEM material is very high level stuff... basicly for engineers and not shop floor users... but that is not to say they don't have some good material that could be useful. Our internal content is spread out across many different divisions and continents, with various ways of saying the same thing. This leads QA to interpret the information differently depending where the systems are put to work. We also have FAA requirements that need to be addressed and reminded to the user.
Our company is starting to also see an exodus of the most knowledagble of the users through retirement. Capturing the knowledge and soft skill packages they have developed working here for 20-30 years is something I am really struggling with. I have only come up with two ideas so far:
    Internal User Web based Forum
Interviews (some SMEs do not want to make the effort in transfering knowledge by participating in anything if it requires an effort they don't see of benefit to themseleves), to get video, audio or transcription records

  • Workflow not routing to agent specified in partner profile

have included below notes regarding the mis-routing of workflow messages of "translation error" STATUS message idocs that are uploaded into R/3.
The testing that I have been performing has been in Development System. The first thing that I check is that the Partner profile parameters are set to send the STATUS message type idoc to an agent via t-code we20. This agent does exist in the organization structure found at t-code ppome. I have been using the logical system (partner type LS) user=GEIS, inbound parameter message type=STATUS, message variant=AP, where myself is setup as the agent to receive workflow.
When processing an inbound STATUS idoc containing an error code of "05", meaning that translation failed on the outbound corresponding idoc (e.g. invoice, desadv, etc.) in the EC subsystem, workflow should be triggered and route the message to the agent specified at the message type level of the partner profile. In the event that an agent is not configured at the message type level of the partner profile, then the workflow message should be routed to the agent specified at the partner profile global level. However, in the event that an agent is not specified at the message type level or partner profile global level, then the workflow message should be routed to the IDOC Administrator, which is configured in t-code we46.
The results of my testing has been that regardless of the agent configuration set at the message type level or partner profile global level, all workflow messages are routed to the IDOC Administrator configured in we46.
The request is to have development work completed so that error STATUS idocs can trigger workflow messages that will be routed to various agents for resolution, versus workflow messages being routed just to the IDOC Administrator - which is how it is working today.
I would greatly appreciate for your immediate response.
    Regards,
    Shankar

    Hi Stacey
If DEV is working and PRD is not have you gone through and compared both and ensure latest MSMP configuration in PRD has been activated?
Also, is the approver COCHGG00 also the Role Owner?
Are you able to show you MSMP configuration? It's makes sense to analyse the log in the context of your configuration. E.g. does the Z_ADDTNL_ACCESS_PATH path have two stages: Manager and Role Owner of which there is a routing rule on the Manager approval to go to the NO_ROLE_OWNER path where the business role has no role owner?

  • File management workflow - in and out of PS CS

I am getting used to using LR in my workflow and find it great for a simple shoot where I sort/cull, process and export. However I am getting into a bit of a muddle on the file management side
    1) Moving files in and out of PS
I often create complex manipulated images - here I edit in photoshop and tend to create many versions. I save a version whenever I feel I have got somewhere with the file. However if I use 'save as' the file doesn't appear in Lightroom - I would have to go and re-import them. I've noticed that lightroom does create a new edit each time I close and reopen the edit, but this is time consuming and I don't want to do this.
My process in PS CS would be to flag relevant raw files, open in PS and save to a Work in Progress folder. Here I would store the various versions. Then once the images had been finalised I would save to a Final folder.
At present with LR - I am importing into LR, sorting/culling, using Develop for basic edits, opening in PS for manipulation and then getting into a muddle with files and versions.
How do other people deal with the interlink between LR and CS?
    2) Creating a final portfolio
I tend to export any final images as Tiffs in to a Final subfolder, as I am slightly wary of leaving them as Raw with an attached xmp in case things get messed around when I archive them to a separate HD.
What is the best way of creating a "portfolio" library, versus a working library? Re-importing the Tiffs and keywording/rating for portfolio? Or creating a separate LR Library where only final files are deposited?
I would be grateful for any tips/workflows you find work.
    Thanks

<br />One way around the latter is to convert to DNG as a final step. When i do this, I know the file is pretty complete. By using "Edit in PS" my work gets linked with the original RAW or DNG file, has ratings, key words, etc. But I've not done a lot in that area, and not sure how I'd handle multiple versions of photoshopped images from one RAW file. I might be inclined to save snapshots within PS or layer comps.

  • Nikon NEF workflow ?

    Hi all,
Just a casual user here with a couple of questions RE: Nikon NEF (from my D3100) and how best to use it in LR.
I understand that the Develop module uses different ways of rendering previews than other modules.
    Note: this is as per
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358017?tstart=30
although the TECHNOTES link doesn't go anywhere..
My problem is that I can't get the look in Develop to export properly! I tweaked the NEF directly and
tried to EXPORT the pic in DEVELOP as a simple jpg, but the jagged
problem I see in all modules except DEVELOP is still there, I tried importing the jpg back in but it still looks terrible
in Library (it's a long exposure of a lake at night, the shades of blue that look great in DEV look terrible in anything else).
When I export, shouldn't it also include the settings + look that I see in DEV so that the resulting export looks exactly the same
I tried making the NEF a DNG first, but even after replicating the tweaks I had done to the NEF, I couldn't get it
to look quite the same (sounds obvious to me since LR treats it as two completely different original files).
Does anyone have a solid workflow for NEF's ? Should I just make them DNG's from the beginning, then import into
LR and go from there ?
    Cheers for any help..
    Benny.

    Benny,
Your problem isn't one of DNG versus NEF. They are treated identically by Lightroom.
Yes, exporting to jpeg from a modified nef file should produce an image that looks pretty darn similar to what you see in the Develop module. Unless, of course, you have specified parameters in the Export dialogue that mess up the exported image. Also, you may see differences if you look at the exported image with an non-colour-managed viewer of some sort.
So, what parameters are you specifying when you do your export? List them all, off of the Export dialogue, or better yet, take a screen shot of the dialogue and post that here.

  • How do full and incremental Informatica workflow differ?

    Hi:
I've read that a custom Informatica workflow should have full and incremental versions. I've compared the incremental and full versions of several seeded OBIA workflows, but I cannot find how they differ. For example, when I look at the session objects for each workflow they both have a source filter that limits a date field by LAST_EXTRACT_DATE.
Can someone shed some light on this?
    Thanks.

To answer your question, they differ in various ways for various mappings. For most FACT tables which hold high volume transactional data, there may be a SQL override in the FULL session that uses INITIALEXTRACT_DATE and a different override in the INCREMENTAL (does not have Full Suffix) that uses LASTEXTRACT_DATE. For dimension tables, its not always required that you have a different logic for FULL versus incremental.
Also, all FULL sessions (even if they have the same SQL) will have a BULK option turned on in the Session properties that allow a faster load since the table is usually truncated on FULL versus Incremental. As a best practice, for FACTS, it is best to have a FULL versus INCREMENTAL session. For Dimensions, depending on the volume of transactions or the change capture date field available, you may or may not have different logic. If you do a FULL load, however, it is better to use BULK to speed up the load.
if this is helpful, please mark as correct or helpful.

  • Workflow Translation getting OVERWRITTEN when transported

    Hello gurus,
Here is what I am struggling with...hope someone has a solution to this.
We do workflow development in system DEV1 (template environment - only EN and DE languages are installed here), Transport it to  system DEV2 (local environment) and do translation from EN to various languages in system DEV2. Workflows are eventually transported to QA and PROD systems from DEV2.
once again to clarify - workflow def in DEV1 is only EN and translations exist for the workflow def in DEV2.
now when we do any bug fix for the workflow in DEV1 and transport it to DEV2, it generates a new workflow version in DEV2 (e.g. 0002) and we loose the translation that was done in DEV2 for version 0001.
Question - Is there anyway to transport workflow def (from DEV1 to DEV2) without transporting language piece of it? when we make any change in workflow in DEV1 - R3TR PDWS 99900001 - is what gets included under transport. When we make translation in DEV2 - LANG PDWS 99900001 - is what gets included in transport. So I am wondering if we can somehow transport R3TR minus LANG PDWS 99900001 from DEV1 to DEV2....
(PS - we can't install languages in DEV1 and translate workflows in DEV1...I wish we cud hv done that)
    someone...please make my day
    Saurabh

    Thanks for responding...
We have a transport landscape set up between DEV1 and DEV2. So do you think Export/Import will preserve translation versus regular transport?

  • Optimum workflow for creating an audio-visual from scanned slides?

I'd like some suggestions as to the best workflow to adopt when generating an AV from scanned slides. I'm transferring my 3-screen audio-visuals from slide format to Blu-ray. The slides are being scanned on a Nikon Coolscan, and after editing end up as ~100 MB, 5400 x 3700, Tiff files with seven layers. These files are then archived, separate from anything I do with them in Premiere. They'll be imported into Premiere, along with the original soundtrack, and eventually output to Blu-ray disk. Then I hire the local cinema for an evening or two, let the word spread, and we reminisce and party!
I realise that pre-conditioning the images – flattening, cropping, down-sampling to a suitable size – would be a good approach, but I'd rather avoid that if possible for two reasons: (1) so that I only have one image to keep track of, instead of the original and a Premiere version; and (2) if I decide to edit colour or contrast I can do so non-destructively on the original. The latter is an important consideration. Images may be used in more than one project. If I decide to alter the look of an image (not because of the look of the image within a particular project, but because I decide the original edit was inherently flawed), it would be better to alter the original and have that change reflected in all other uses of the image, than to alter, say, two copies of the image plus the original.
A finished AV will range from 30-400 images. The longer shows will be broken into sequences of no longer than about 20-30 images. These are some of my concerns:
    Cropping
The scanned images include a small amount of the slide mount. That way I know I've scanned the entire slide. So that has to go. And given that slides are 3:2 and Blu-ray is 16:9, something else has to go as well. I've been through most of the Premiere PDF but have yet to come across a cropping tool. I know how to position, scale, rotate, but how do I crop? Scaling is not a substitute because I may want certain images to not fill the screen and not show the slide mount.
    Flattening
Will layered Tiff files cause difficulties in Premiere or Encore?
    Resolution
Will 5400 x 3700 files (versus resampling to 1920 x 1080) have a serious impact on the time in takes for any part of the process from importing into Premiere to encoding in Encore?
    Image Order
Is it better to order and renumber images using Adobe Bridge, or should I just shuffle images around in Premiere? Working with Premiere alone would have the advantage that I can import the originals (if that is an acceptable workflow).
    Packaging
When a project is finished, I want to package all the assets via Project Manager and archive them. And I'd rather not archive 100MB image files. Now, this is going to be a big ask, and I'll have to jump across to InDesign to explain. When I've used scanned images in InDesign, I link to the original 100 MB files. No problems whatsoever. Come archiving time, I package in one of two ways: use an InDesign script to crop and resample the original images, and then package; or I simply export to PDF, and during the export all images are automatically cropped, resampled, and saved within the PDF in whatever format I choose. A simple and elegant archive.
Does Premiere have the ability to crop and resample the stills it uses, and either overwrite the original or save as a new file?
That question has just made me think: if I do need to crop, flatten and resample before importing into Premiere, or for archiving, maybe I should be mocking up my Premiere projects in InDesign set to a page size of 1920 x 1080. I could drag in all the images, then shuffle, crop and size them. When I'm happy with the sequence, I export as jpegs, and get the cropped, resampled images that way, ready for Premiere.
    Any comments most appreciated.

Your last paragraph makes the most sense. Although a script in Photoshop would easily do what you want.
Before you resize them, make sure you don't really need to pan across them. Resizing down to around 4K or so might avoid problems.
