XL Reporter and Count function

Hi,
Using XL Reporter to produce financial reporting and sales analysis reporting is great. It would be good to be able to use count functions as well for other data analysis (ie in Service modules) without having to drop out huge volumes of data from the database, hide it and use the Excel countif functions to analyse the data.
An example is to provide reporting on the number of service calls in a period analysed by Problem Types, by Item Groups, Top 10 customers by number of calls etc.
This is all good supporting reporting but it is resource hungry to produce using the existing methods.

Thats right, im doing like you: hiding lots of data... but it would be great to use a count function.
For example, i am doing a report where i need to count the number of invoices made for a sale of type a manufacturer brand.
If anyone have a solution, please share it.

  • Difference in num_rows and COUNT function.

    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM APP.Big_table; Number of record--222653402This is a big table to get the it's taking 8 minutes time,
    so that I tried the following SQL to get the count quickly.
    SELECT num_rows FROM all_tables WHERE table_NAME='BIG_TABLE'
    and owner='APP'; --Number of records 237213998But I got the different count for the two SQLs.
    Why there is a difference in the count.
    Which one is correct.

    Why there is a difference in the count.Because num_rows depends on how often table statistics are refreshed.

    Which one is correct.The real-time count is the 'most correct' one (select count(*)).
    But in the time it takes to count all records, possibility is that records have been inserted/deleted as well, depending on the use of the table, so you'll will have an 'approximate count', it does not always reflect the exact number of records.

    Over here, the data is being filtered always for current month and for a location that is being selected by user from a report selection parameter.
    I would like to get the count of total no. of customers and sum of the amount measure.
    When I am using them in calculated members it gives incorrect values. It considers all records (ignores the sub-select statements) instead of only the records of current month and selected location.
    I also tried with EXISTING keyword in calculated members but there is not difference in output. Finally, I manage the same at SSRS level.
    Can anybody please advise what are the ways to get the required sum of [Measures].[Amt] and count of [Customer].[Customer].[Customer Key].ALLMEMBERS dimension?
    Also, does it make any difference if I manage it as SSRS level and not at MDX query level?
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    We can use SUM function and COUNT function to sum of [Measures].[Amt] and count of [Customer].[Customer].[Customer Key].ALLMEMBERS dimension. Here is a sample query for you reference.

    Besides, you ask that does it make any difference if I manage it as SSRS level and not at MDX query level. I don't thinks it will make much difference. The total time to generate a reporting server report (RDL) can be divided into 3 elements:Time to retrieve
    the data (TimeDataRetrieval);Time to process the report (TimeProcessing);Time to render the report (TimeRendering). If you manage it on MDX query level, then the TimeDataRetrieval might a little longer. If you manage it on report level, then the TimeProcessing
    or TimeRendering time might a little longer. You can test it on you report with following query:

    Can someone please help me with my count( ) function in BIP reports? I have this code in my RTF template below that only count 1 per ssImageType

    What is the item that you want to count? I don't understand what you are trying to do here: count((/ssAction=/ssImageType))?
    If status is closed and ssGroup = EDS OPS, and ssAction = ssImageType, then you want to count the number of records?

    Aggregate functions to be placed at the level you require it. Here you need at G_1, so place it there.

  • Interactive Reports and PL/SQL Functions

    Hi,
    Am new to the interactive reports, and it appears to be I can only use a single SELECT statement to populate the report.
    I need to convert some older reports to the new interactive reports, but these are populated using PL/SQL functions, as the WHERE clause is built up depending on the selection of items on the web page.
    How can I replicate this with the new interactive reports? Have used CASE statements within a SELECT statement before, can I also use these in a WHERE clause as well?

    To my knowledge, currently the only way to use Interactive Reports is on a static query. And unfortunately you can't use CASE statements in the WHERE clause of a query, only in the select list.
    The way I would (and have) attacked this is to:
    1. Write the base static query as the basis of the interactive report
    2. Access the interactive report in while logged in as a developer
    3. Build a filter (or set of filters) and save the report. You have the choice of saving it as a named report or as the default report.
    This gives the user one to many filter sets they can use as a starting point and tweak, and gives them examples as to how they can and should use the interactive filtering.

    I am not sure what you are requesting will be of any help for you, as functional/technical specifications are specific for each implementation and might be dependent on the configuration on that system. 
    If you are on IDES try to look through the sample programs provided by SAP and see if you can implement your own version of the those.

  • Reporting-Top 10 and Rank() function

    Need to modify Top 10 Opportunities Pre-defined analysis report. In doing so, we loose the drop down Fiscal Qtr/Year. The only option is to create a Pivot table, and use Fiscal Qtr/Year as a selector. The issue is that I need to be able to retrieve the Top 10 for every Quarter/Year. What is happening now is that the report is pulling Top 10 Opportunities for the entire report, and when we select the Fiscal Quarter/Year, if a Top 10 Opportunities exists, it will return a record(s). If not, it returns 0. Need Top 10 for every quarter.
    The Rank function is used. How do I achieve this using this functionality?

    Following information might be helpful in resolving the issue.
    General Syntax of Ranking :
    Rank( measure; (dimensions); [Top|Bottom])
    Here is the work flow with an example :- (use efashion universe )
    1) Create a webi report selecting objects quarter, year, sales revenue and create a cross tab
    2) While creating a cross tab, use the Object Year in columns and object Quarter for rows.
    3)Define a variable Var1 = Rank ([Sales Revenue] ; [Quarter]; [Year]) ForEach ([Year])
    4) Insert a blank column next to year in the cross tab.
    5) Drag and drop the variable Var1 in the new blank column inserted next to Object Year..
    You will now find that you have ranking for the years 2001, 2002, 2003 being reflected
    independently.

  • Interactive Report Pagination and count

    I have two situations I am hoping someone could help me with.
    Problem 1
    I am using interactive reports in APEX 3.2.1 and I have reports with rows >= 6000. currently pagination on reports is set to:
    X to Y of Z
    such that when the report is rendered it looks something like 1 - 15 of 6203 >.
    Is it possible to add 'objects' or 'buttons' that allow me to navigate directly to the last row or/first row e.g
    |<< < 1 - 15 of 6203 > >>|
    such that |<< or >>| navigates to the very end row while < or > navigates to the next set or rows? would this be javascript? if so, does anyone have code for it? unfortunately not only am I new to APEX, I am a novice at javascript as well.
    Problem 2
    Is it possible to have APEX interactive reports return a distinct count on fields that are not unique? All counts are equating to the count of the unique ID and has had me pulling my hair

    Hi Mike,
    I have not managed to get 'Distinct count' to work. Unfortunately, the project I am working on for this neither has the time or budget to investigate further but hopefully I will be able to get a solution from someone as a "nice-to-know".
    Regarding the first problem I posted on, managed to come up with a solution using some html. Basically I created two html scripts (one above the report and the other below the pagination buttons at the bottom of the report)
    - for the top of report html I used the following code:
    +<td nowrap class="t13RegionBody"><>a href="#endofpage"<>End of Page</a></td>+
    +<td bgcolor="#EEEEEE" nowrap><a name="topofpage"><font color="#EEEEEE">Top of Page</font></a></td>+
    and called the script topofpage
    - for the bottom of report html script I called it endofpage and used the following code:
    +<td nowrap class="t13RegionBody"><>a href="#topofpage"<>Top of Page</a></td>+
    +<td nowrap bgcolor="#EEEEEE"><A NAME="endofpage"><font color="#EEEEEE">End of Page</font></A></td>+
    What the script does is when the "End of Page" hyperlink is clicked, it takes the user to the bottom of the screen/page and vice versa for the "Top of Page" hyperlink situated at the bottom of the page. Users will be educated on how to use the ROWS utility on the interactive report menu bar so that they can display all available rows on one page and use the links to navigate from top to bottom of page.

    Part A:
    I've done some restating of the question, and distributed the calculations among several fields, not all of which need to be included on the visible layout. Other than formatting the Date fields and moving the 'Completed Date' field and its label, I've left this in the default "Layout 1" produced by AppleWorks.
    Field List:
    Priority: Popup menu with six items: 00, J, D, 1, 2, 3  Defaults to 00
    TL (time limit in months): Calculation:  CHOOSE('Priority',0,1,3,4,6,12)
    Received: Date. Option: Automatically insert today's date (ie. Date Record created) (may be edited)
    Target Date: Calculation:
    DATE(YEAR('Received')+INT(MONTH('Received')+'TL')/12,MOD(MONTH('Received')+'TL', 12),DAY('Received'))
    Remaining (Days): Calculation: INT('Target Date'+1-NOW())  (see revision below)
    Completed: Checkbox. Set default value to Unchecked.
    Completed Date: Date: Entered manually
    OnTarget: Calculation: IF('Completed',IF('Completed Date'<'Target Date',"On Target","Over"),IF(INT(NOW())>'Target Date',"Over","On Target"))
    The On Target field shows the current status of the case while still open, and the state on the closing date when it was closed.
    Having done that, I was unhappy with the Remaining field continuing to calculate an ever larger negative number after the case had been closed. Hence this revision below:
    Remaining: Calculation: IF('Completed','Target Date'-'Completed Date',INT('Target Date'+1-NOW()))
    Shows the number of days remaining while the case is open, the days remaining at completion if the case has been marked Completed and the completion date entered.
    Rsults (and some further formatting of the Layout) below.
    Part B:
    You will need Subsummary parts when sorted on Completed and on On Target. Fields can appear on  a Layout only once, so each subsummary part will need a separate Summary type field for each field to be summarized.
