XML importing problems - Help!

I'm using FCP 5.0.4 and keep getting the 'a translation doc could not be found' error when trying to import. If the xml is created for a more recent version, is there anyway around it? Help... very urgent project. Thanks, Nick

v5.04 only supports FCP XML v2 or v1, it does not support v3
you should export from the later version of FCP using XML v2

Subtitle import Problem, HELP!

Thanks in advance for the help. Here is the problem. I am finishing a DVD project today complete with 6 different subtitle languages. I have been importing files for weeks with no problem. But today, for whatever reason, when I import a .son file, two files that are the new correct. tiffs are imported as the wrong old .tiff. I have rid my computer of any .tiff with the same name, yet it still shows up wrong. Is there any way to purge, cache, parse subtitle files? It is referencing an old wrong one, I just dont know how. Any thoughts please help.

Yes. What DVDSP does is turn these subtitles into mpegs and places them within the project itself.
If you open the project by "Show Package Contents" from the finder. navigate your way through to Resources/Render Data and the files are in there. Just delete the files (not the folder) and you should be able to open up again and force a new build.

XML Import Problem

Bin echt am verzweifeln. Hoffentlich kann mir einer weiterhelfen. Ich habe mit Adobe Live Cycle Designer 7.0 ein Formular programmiert was XML Daten aufnehmen soll.Das Formular hat als Datenverbindung ein XML Schema als vorlage.Das Problem besteht darin das beim Importieren der XML Daten in das Formular die Fehlermeldung hochkommt
"Ungültiger Knotentyp: dataGroup
Fehler in Zeile 0". Die Daten werden aber sauber in die Felder importiert.
Kann mir jemand weiterhelfen ?

hast du deine xml mal validiert? gibt es eine dtd zu deinem xml schema?
wenn deine xml "not well-formed" ist, kann es sein, das bei geringen fehlern in der struktur,
die tags doch richtig eigelesen werden.
mein tip:
wenn du zu deinem schema keine dtd hast, erstelle eine und du wirs während der erstellung den fehler in deinem
schema finden. wenn nicht, sollte ein anschliessendes validieren ("xml spy" oder so verwenden) den fehler aufzeigen.

New user, XML Import

This question is about how to view contents of XML files I import into InDesign and whether that might help preserve features of original documents created in other programs (like OpenOffice or Microsoft Word).
When I place rtf copies of text / tables / graphics files which I created other programs (like Microsoft Word or Open Office) into InDesign, I am losing important features. For example, with the Table of Contents, fonts, tables, etc depart significantly from the original document.
I am wondering if I can do better by saving the original doc as an XML and using File > Import XML to bring it into InDesign. So far when I have tried it the "import" appears to run to completion, but the InDesign document appears empty.   Do you know how to display what was imported? I have the feeling there is a simple solution, like I need to creat a text frame or something to view it.

First I need to point out that the OpenOffice document I want to convert to InDesign is more than 400 pages and consists of multiple chapters each with mostly text, tables, and a few figures. The whole thing has a table of contents and an index. Do you think I should be working with an InDesign "book" rather than a "document"?
Most of things that are not going into InDesign as they appear (function) in Open Office have to do with hierarchies and referencing:
(a)    Outline /bullet hierarchies
(b)    Tables (columns / rows may change shape)
(c)    Table of Contents and Indexing
I am wondering if XML import will help preserve functions related to the Table of Contents, Figure captions, Table numbers, etc.

This book will answer most questions you might have about using XML with InDesign.
For a short answer, you need to first create styles, then map them to the tags, then import the XML. I will send you an example via email (the author emailed me directly).

XML Premiere 5.5 to FCP7 Import problem

I am working with an outside editor who did some edits for my company in Premiere 5.5.
They're tryng to supply me with a FCP7 compatible XML file for import into FCP7.
Well I am able to convert the XML file in FCP7, but not all of the info is coming thropugh properly.
The edit is a simple one...
2 camera A/B talking head
1 Main Audio track whihc is done as 4 audio (2 stereo) tracks in Premiere.
The edit supplied to me comes through with the video being fine on 2 tracks.
However, the audio track does not even show up in my timeline. However it's there on his Premiere timeline.
Any idea what might be the problem?
I have supplied pics of both timelines for reference.
One is his Premiere timeline, the other is my FCP7 timeline after XML conversion.
Premiere timeline with 2 videos tracks and 4 audio tracks.
FCP7 timeline with 2 video tracks and only 2 audio tacks sowing up.
Where is the other audio track.

Thanks for your advice, the use of the UT Video Codec Suite has been exceedingly helpful in capturing video. It has made 1080i capture much simpler.
Unfortunately it has not solved my 720p import problems.
I have played around with several different configurations. If I record 720p at 29.97 frames, the whole video imports without difficulty, but the sound is messed up. But when I try to import 720p video at 59.94 frames, Premiere Pro will only import the first couple of minutes of the video if the video is longer than 7 minutes.
If you have any further advice, I would appreciate it.

Premiere XML import maps all stereo tracks to mono with no way back HELP!!!

I recently upgraded to Premiere 2014 and Audition 2014 so that I could import Audition and Premiere projects back and forth. This was meant to work previously but absolutely did not!
The very clunky and archaic export to FCP XML interchange format (FCP hello wtf) is the only way to do this.
I have now discovered to my horror that all my imported stereo audio has been mapped to mono. And if you know what that means you'll also know that it cannot be undone without completely manually importing all the material again and dropping it onto stereo timelines only.
Meaning that Audition XML import still does not work.
I would love to know why this is and if there is a way around it?
I imagine that this is the sort of question only an Adobe employee can help with but if you're not then thanks a lot for your time

I'm not sure I follow your workflow. I've never used XML export/import from Audition. Usually I use the dynamic link methods to work on audio in Audition and round-trip back to Premiere. That said, I *THINK* I know what you're talking about with Premiere's audio limitations when importing from FinalCut XML (+1 for What the Fetch on FinalCut XML). The workflow and problem you describe sounds similar to what happens when syncing audio and video in PluralEyes and then importing the resulting FCP XML. It's been on my complaint list for a very, very long time. All audio shows up in Premiere as TWO separate tracks (each mono, if I remember right).
The awkward work-around, at least in my case, is to re-interperet ALL of the audio files as stereo, in the project panel and then hammer out about 100 or more Match Frame operations to replace all of the audio in my timeline(s). Let me take this opportunity, once again, to plead with Adobe: PLEASE fix XML import so that mono comes in as mono, and stereo comes in as stereo. If it's a limitation of FinalCut XML, why not be innovative and create a new industry standard that works: PPrXML! And please, please, PLEASE bring the "Modify Audio" command directly to the timeline where so many of us need it MOST!!!

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

Insane XML Import, Huge Project, Duplicate file names work around...

I planned on kicking off my journey attempting to edit a massive multi year documentary on FCPX with a nice introduction of the blog I'm going to keep about the experience, but I've run into a bit of a roadblock, or maybe major speed bump at least before even getting to that point. I wanted to share what is working as a work around for me and you guys can tell me how I'm doing it wrong.
Ok, I will try to explain this as succinctly as possible. I'll write in somewhat stream of consciousness just to try and get through it quicker... Basically, after discovering the work around below, I am now utterly confused on how FCPX handles the relationship between its own database of where media is stored, and the actual media itself. I have plenty experience on FCPX now, probably done 30-40 pro commercial jobs on it over the last year since XML became doable as I'm also a Resolve Colorist and all the FCPX projects where hardcore coloring product spots. For commercial work, I never needed to worry about splitting up footage up over multiple Events. Everything, all in one, FCPX handled it no problem. (well the occasional beach ball, but that seems to be a thing with FCPX in general)
This will be my 10th feature documentary as an Editor. Every one before it was either on Avid's many flavors over the last 12 years or FCP Studio. When this new film came along, I made the decision a few months ago to use FCPX for a few reasons, but mostly because I'm insane and I like to try to mix it up for myself in a career that can get stale quick if you aren't willing to be that way. The film was shot over 2+ years, every shoot was multi cam 5D (yes i know, looks great, but please kill me), I haven't done the math on length, but there is over 10,000 clips of video (this is actually medium in size compared to what I've dealt with before). Its 5D, so theres external audio for everything. FCPX's syncing is great, but I've learned that theres an unsaid window of heads and tales clips must fall within to sync properly with the nearby clips, if they are too far apart FCPX gives up. One shoot day could have 3 cams, 50 clips each, and 2 audio files to sync to, FCPX simply cannot handle this, so off to Plural eyes they went, no problems.
Ok, all this is relevant eventually I swear! Again, in the past, all in one event, no problem. I tried for fun to bring all media into one Event on this film. It worked, but there is a 10+ second spinning beach ball for every single move you make, so thats no good. Ok, I'll separate the Events out to, lets say, each shoot month. Well that's dumb, in verite documentary, any shot could be the first, any shot could be the last, you need a command over all searchable footage at all times. Shift selecting all events to search *****, and it actually takes longer for FCP to reload each event each time than it does to just have the one massive one. So no go there. Next hair brained idea... What if make a new Event that is just Compound Clips of all the other Event's contents and do more with Markers and Favorites in logging that I was planning to parse it all out. That way I'm working with and FCPX is dealing with 50-60 clips instead of 10,000+ Quick test, Cmd-A, Opt-G, boom, boom, boom, move all to dedicated to Event, hide huge Event, BEHOLD, that works! FCPX chokes a little bit on the insane length of some of the clips, but searching, and general performance is back on par!
So your saying to yourself "Ok *********, sounds like you figured it out, what's the problem." Well to you I say, "Not so fast!" Remember, that was just a quick test using the media I had imported into the massive 10,000+ clip Event. To do this project proper, I am having to import Multicam sync'd XMLs from Plural Eyes. And this is where it all starts to fall apart. A little foreshadowing for your eager eyes. 10,000+ files all shot with multiple 5D's over the course of years. What does that mean? many, many duplicate file names!
FCPX as well all know irritatingly imports XML's as new Events, not into existing ones. This obviously takes a lot of burden off media management because with a new Event comes a new database referencing its own version of the raw media. All well and good, and I'm betting its starting to click for some if you advanced users where I'm finally going with this. So I have 50 or so XMLs to bring in, all done no problem. Now I want to replicate that singular Event like I did with the Compound Clip test and have it all in one place to be my master as extensive logging begins for easy searching once editing begins. Highlight the Events, click Merge Events. NOPE. I get a new "Kill Yourself Now" error (a term I coined for Out of Memory and General Error messages in FCP Legacy meaning there ain't much you can do about it): "Two or more files have the same name. Change the names and try again, because I don't know what the **** to do with them." Ok I made up that last part but that's basically what it's saying. Just take the variable out of the equation, this happens with every which way you could try to get the clips together. Merge Events, dragging events on top of each other, dragging just the Multicam clip alone, nothing gets passed that message. What's worse is that while Batch Renaming seems like a solution, the renames do not populate inside the created clips and there is no way to Batch Rename those. Renaming everything at the finder level isn't so great because then I'd have to resync and theres an offline/online thing going here where the film has to be reconformed eventually.
Basically, I've found that FCPX handles media management in completely different ways depending on whether you are importing into one Event yourself or doing essentially what is a new import with FCPX moving or merging Events. If you bring in all the media to one Event, on a macro level FCPX goes through file by file making aliases referencing the master file. If it hits a duplicate, it makes a parenthesis counter, and keeps going. And with the genius of FCPX metadata, that file name doesn't even matter, you can change it at the Finder level and FCPX will keep the link intact. BUT for some reason if you try to do this outside the realm of a single Event and combine files after the fact a different process takes over in creating this database system and can't handle the duplicates. I can't totally figure the reason other than it probably is scared to change the originally referenced alias to something else (which it shouldn't be scared of since Merge Events deletes the original anyway).
This is where it gets INSANE and where I lose all understanding of what is going on, and believe me it was a delicate understanding to begin with. It comes in to play with the work around I figured out. I make the master Event with the 10,000+ clips. Then I import all the XMLs as dedicated Events. Now, I then drag the Multicam clips into the master Event, it WORKS! just takes it, no "Kill Yourself Now" error. Stranger still, now with the switched referenced Event, it even takes into account which aliased duplicate file name it's referencing in the Original Media folder. Somehow, it's taking into account the original file path and saying "Ok, I see 5 instances of MVI_5834.mov. Based on the original file path or maybe creation date or god knows what, it must be MVI_5834 (fcp3).mov." It connects perfectly. I can even remove the old XML imported Event with no problem. Crazier yet, I can now move those again to the dedicated Event I wanted originally that only contains those Multicam or Compound Clips.
So instead of going straight from A to C, going from A to B to C works even though that actually seems way more complicated. Why can't FCPX handle Merge Events and dragging clips the same way it handles media imported into a single Event. And weirder still, why can't FCPX handle the (fcp1,2,3...) appending in the same scenario. But if the appended links are already there, No Problem. And for the love of god, it'd be nice to important XML's into existing Events and make the correct referencing happen right from the get go, which is really the source of all the above headache. I'd have no problem helping FCPX with a little manual pointing in the right direction just like any other NLE needs.
Ok, having said all of that crap above, my question is, have I missed something completely simple I should have done instead? Now that I have everything in place how I originally envisioned, I think I will still play around a little bit more to make sure FCPX is really going to be able to handle this project. I'm at a stage right now where going another direction is still an option, although the dare devil in me wants to make this work. Media management aside, once you start editing on a FCPX timeline, its hard to go back to anything else. Apple is going to have to figure out some way not to access to everything at all times to work fluidly or big projects like this are never going to be practical in FCPX.

I've exhausted my resources with tech support, and after literally hours of work with them it seems I now am faced with either re-rating each individual song, or pointing iTunes to each song that it can't locate. Is yours a solution that could help me? How can I find out more about Ruby Scripts? Thanks for your help, hellolylo (or anyone else who might also be able to help...)

XML Import/Export on 64-bit UNIX

can anyone help me about Analytic Integration Services XML import/export on 64 bit Unix?
The document "eis_93100_readme.pdf" explain that the import/export function is not available on 64-bit UNIX platforms and I don't know how to perform it.
Does any tools exists?

This is usually an indication that something is wrong with the credential store. I've run into a bug with cryptotools where it truncates passwords on Unix. Try running cryptotools without encrypting the password. After that, see if the password is correct in the credential store.
If this seems to be the problem, then I recommend generating your credential store on Windows and then moving it to your Unix platform.

FCP XML Import on Premiere CS4.0.1 Windows

Great work on implementing FCP XML import on CS4.0.1. We have all our media mounted on a network share. On the Mac exporting a sequence from FCP and then importing into Premiere on the Mac works no problems. On Windows this is a problem, Premiere prompts for each of the media items, which is pretty painful to re-link again. Looking at the FCP XML this appears to be down to the <pathurl> area of the XML. These are typically file://server/Volumes..... etc... which doesn't translate to any of the file mountings on Windows, which are D: E: F: etc... mounted drives. Is there any way to help us? We can write a script to manually modify the XML. Can you explain how Premiere Windows likes to read these Mac URLs?

Thank you all for your help. It still leaves a bit of a workflow problem. Basically we have some people ingesting / organizing content and maintaining on a network share. Duplicating the media is slow and moving it all into one volume is not too good either as it breaks all the relationships for others. Re-linking is good, but doesn't work if the material is spread across subdirectories and giving a key to link all the media together looses some of the benefit of having the export from FCP in the first place, it's just as easy to re-make the edit. We are only using cut edits, so this is quite simple. For users on the Mac using FCP and handing off to Premier it works fine, the problem is we want to hand off to Windows Premier. It's ok to run a script over the files to change the XML naming of the <pathurl> which seems to be causing the problem, but how to describe this in the Windows world? Thanks for all the help.... anyone from Adobe with any ideas? The problem as I see it is how to identify Mac OS mounts to a Windows version of Premier on XML import.

I don't think it's a validating parser.

Well not really. One way to check if the xml is valid is to open it in IE
5.0. If its well formed then it will show up otherwise it will give you an
error. Also the document object is not the best code that came out of Forte
and has errors, so this might be a bug you will have to report. And they
are not giving any new patches until 3.5 comes out in 2 months.

FCP XML import and linking .r3d

I have a sequence that was originally edited in FCP (7.0) using ProRes proxies created out of RedCine. I remember that in Premiere 5.5 when you imported the XML, premiere re-linked the original .r3d's with all the scale and position attributes.
When I import the XML into Premiere CC it doesn't reconnect the .r3d files.
Did something change with CC or is there something wrong with the XML?

Thank you all for your help. It still leaves a bit of a workflow problem. Basically we have some people ingesting / organizing content and maintaining on a network share. Duplicating the media is slow and moving it all into one volume is not too good either as it breaks all the relationships for others. Re-linking is good, but doesn't work if the material is spread across subdirectories and giving a key to link all the media together looses some of the benefit of having the export from FCP in the first place, it's just as easy to re-make the edit. We are only using cut edits, so this is quite simple. For users on the Mac using FCP and handing off to Premier it works fine, the problem is we want to hand off to Windows Premier. It's ok to run a script over the files to change the XML naming of the <pathurl> which seems to be causing the problem, but how to describe this in the Windows world? Thanks for all the help.... anyone from Adobe with any ideas? The problem as I see it is how to identify Mac OS mounts to a Windows version of Premier on XML import.

WIJ 20002 xml Parser Problem - Rich Client

Hi,
I have a problem with the rich client on a new installation:
Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 on Windows 2008 Standard.
If I connect with the rich client "import document"is disabled.
if I try to create a new document from the rich client it returns the error below (I used the rich client on two workstations):
