Can you send me, or point me to a website with a working and well tuned xorg.conf for T510 + NVIDIA NVS 3100M.
I've had a few problems creating one myself and I am sure that many people have good working X configurations.
    I am using Kubuntu 11.04.

  • Xorg.conf for a dualhead setup with an ATI/AMD graphic card

    Hello Guys
first I would mention that I've searched for a solution but I've not found one
now back to the problem. I would configure my system so that I can work with two displays like Xinerama. But when I use
    $ startx
then my two monitors have a white screen for a second, then the bigger one goes off (no signal) and the little stay with the white screen. The mouse pointer is not visible and no window manager is used.
    I have a SyncMaster P2250 (22") and a Eizo FlexScan L568 (17")
my graphic card is an AMD/ATI Redwood (Radeon HD 5670) and the fglrx driver from the catalyst repository

now back to the problem. I would configure my system so that I can work with two displays like Xinerama. But when I use
    $ startx
then my two monitors have a white screen for a second, then the bigger one goes off (no signal) and the little stay with the white screen. The mouse pointer is not visible and no window manager is used.
    I have a SyncMaster P2250 (22") and a Eizo FlexScan L568 (17")
my graphic card is an AMD/ATI Redwood (Radeon HD 5670) and the fglrx driver from the catalyst repository
    and finally my xorg.conf

  • Xorg.conf for legacy G3 imac with ATI Riva128

    Hi,
after spending a few nights trying to figure out how to get ATI drivers working, and staring at newer and exotic Xorg error messages, I eventually found a working setup. I thought I'd post it here for records, and in case it could help someone.

This is an imac 350 Mhz, running Xfce decently (184 Mb RAM - hoping for more - and 8 Mb video card).
So far only Xfce display settings don't work. I get something like "cannot launch screen configuration window. Driver does not support video outputs". No big deal.
    Cheers.

Thanks for posting this wizzard. After an upgrade of xorg I have been struggling to make a conf file that worked. Adding to a minimal file is easier than pruning a full one. I used your minimal xorg.conf and added:
    Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024"
in the monitor section and now all is well. (I think my monitor is non-standards-compliant. It causes problems so the option is needed)

  • Xorg.conf for laptops with 2 vga controllers and an hdmi port

    Hi
I installed arch on my laptop and was quite happy that it worked so easily. The only problem at the moment is that the display connected to the hdmi port isn't detected. For example running from the gnome control centre the display applet then 'detect' only detects the laptop display, even though there is a 2nd monitor connected to the laptop via the HDMI port. I suspect that the problem is xrandr is not detecting the monitor connected to the HDMI port. How can I fix this?
Output from lspci -v for the vga controllers:

Curious how well you got this working (and working with the nvidia driver). I have the same issue, and got it working using the intel and nouveau drivers. However, I am unable to drag windows to the second screen, use desktop effects, or modify the layout with xrandr. I tried installing the nvidia driver alongside the intel one, however there is a conflict between nvidia-utils and libgl that won't allow that.
    Here's my setup:

  • Windows 7/Vista Drivers for IBM thinkpad X40

I had just upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 because of a operating system malfunction. When I first logged in I found out that my sound wouldn't work. I knew that a new part of windows 7 is that drivers come from windows update. I got updates for drivers, but not for sound. I went to device manager and try to check my sound device, and found that my sound device has dissappearred. Do I need drivers to solve the problem, or this is problem that can't be fixed. If I can fix it with a driver, can I get the windows vista driver for sound.
P.S I already went to the website for the driver http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54078.html
It said the driver for vista is already on the operating system, and that does not work for me!!

If you are still using windows 7,try using the inbuilt troubleshooting system.

  • Display driver for IBM Thinkpad T60 on Windows 7

    Hi,
I've just installed windows 7 on my T60. It seems that the display driver (Intel GMA 950) is not behaving the way it used to behave in windows XP. I tried to install everything I could find on the support web site. They say that the support for display driver for T60 has been dropped for Windows Vista onwards. Is there any fix for this problem?
    Any help is appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Harsh

The Win 7 is still in beta version, there is still no official support for it.... I don't think Intel will drop support for the GMA 950 GPU, as this way a lot of relatively new laptop will still be useless.

  • Drivers for IBM Thinkpad T40 2373-82U?

Had to recover to factory contents. Wireless not working & Ethernet not working so I thought that needed to get drivers, but have been unsuccessful. Cant even get to Device Manager, any advice?

Ethernet driver:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62922 After downloading it, you must go into C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet and run the setup file from there. Wireless driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-59438 C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint Hope this helps.

I download xf86-video-fbdev just for fun before I saw your post, I didn't do anything as far as I could see.
    I commented these lines out:
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
    Load "record"
    Load "type1"
B, I didn't install any fonts but now I installed a buch of random fonts:
    pacman -S ttf-ms-fonts ttf-cheapskate artwiz-fonts xorg-fonts-75dpi xorg-fonts-100dpi
and did some of what the X.org configuration wiki said:
    fc-cache -fv
    /usr/bin/fc-cache
    /usr/bin/mkfontscale
    /usr/bin/mkfontdir
    ln -s /usr/share/fonts/encodings/encodings.dir encodings.dir
    Then this I changed this:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Card0"
    Driver "intel"
    VendorName "All"
    BoardName "All"
    EndSection
EDIT, halfway through this post I realized I type in biagio's code wrong, I re-typed it and now my X works!
Thanks Everybody for the help! , here's the working xorg.conf for reference:

  • Creation of Functional, Minimal, and Correct Xorg.conf [SOLVED]

Being fairly new to GNU/Linux in general, and totally green in doing things myself, I foolishly avoided the building of an xorg.conf. Following the beginner's guide in the wiki, I just did an "xorg --configure" which created a base xorg.conf for me. It worked, and I noticed no problems in the general use of my window manager (xmonad). I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300.
I discovered today that I was using the radeonhd driver which was giving me terrible performance in OpenGL applications, so edited xorg.conf to revert back to the plain radeon driver. Upon restarting X, my performance problems were gone, but my fonts in the Firefox interface devolved... I have taken this a wakeup call to actually write a good xorg.conf and to understand what everything in it is for.
I have done plenty of configuration, though I have never before looked into editing the dreaded xorg.conf, coming from Ubuntu, so I know very little. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Specifics:
    What parts are necessary?
How do I get the fonts I had before back?
Graphics is all that concerns me, I have no strange input devices, and my touchpad works fine (I configured the fdi files for that).
I will list my current xorg.conf below. Fonts worked before I changed the driver from radeonhd to radeon and enabled the option for EXA. Before these changes, all the text contained therein was created automagically by xorg. I have a feeling most of this is unnecessary.

X searches all of the directories that you had in your original xorg.conf file, and it will load whatever it needs automatically. I don't think your problem is specifically with xorg.conf (or lack of), I think what you're seeing is the DPI changing between drivers.
Try this with each driver loaded and see if they're different:
    xdpyinfo | grep resolution
    Ah, yes indeed!
    radeonhd: 96x96
    radeon: 129x127
How do I get X with the radeon driver to use 96x96?
EDIT: Adding a dpi argument of 96 to /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc fixed the problem. I didn't occur to me that the two drivers would use different dpis.
    Thank you so much!

  • Xorg.conf - hal

Hi, I have been using arch for quite a long time. Some time ago, when I was installing gnome and x11 I had to generate the xorg.conf using hwd. Hwd is now only in AUR and it is completely useless. I am using HAL configuration now and I want to make some improvements to the graphics configuration like enabling UXA rendering and so on. This forbids me from doing so. I was wondering whether there's a way to write HAL's detected config into xorg.conf for me to edit or some other way. The way of trying every config is a bit uncomfortable for me, because almost every time there's anything wrong, all input devices are not being listened to so I need to perform a hard reset and it hurts my heart. needless to say the filesystem check I had to turn off because of this.
    Thank you
EDIT: It is probably good idea to mention my hardware

Did you try generating a xorg.conf like:
    Xorg -configure
    cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Then make your changes to the file.

    Welcome to the forum!
Yes, you can use a 30GB drive, as long as it's PATA/IDE and laptop size.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dell Inspiron 1525 - Sound and Xorg Conf

Hey everyone, hope I'm posting this in the right forum.
I have my arch install on an Inspiron 1525 as the title states. I have Xorg and OSS installed on it currently. I need to know two things:
    1. I consulted the Arch Wiki for the laptop and it suggests that OSS provides louder and better sound than ALSA. Is this a confirmed thing, and if so is there anything special with OSS that I have to do to get sound nice and loud? This is a biggie because the speakers in their current state put out fairly low sound. I was hoping this could be improved.
    2. Under Xorg, I have the drivers installed correctly and everything. I plan on using input hotplugging so devices aren't that big an issue. What I'd like to know is how to setup the conf with the monitor and intel integrated graphics that come with the laptop. This is more me just being confused with Xorg than anything else, though if anyone has a good sample Xorg conf for this laptop that I could use, I would greatly appreciate it.
Any other issues with the laptop that would be good to know are welcome as well. Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't know is there any sound loudness improvement when using OSS, but I would suggest you to use ALSA. I have a similar laptop (Inspiron 1300) so my xorg.conf may be useful to you, but you will need to change some lines to match your graphic card.:)

  • Auto generate xorg.conf at startup

Does Archlinux have a package like gentoo's mkxf86config?
    auto generate xorg.conf ?
    thanks

Is there any special reason you need a program to do this? If you weren't aware, X.org has been able to run without xorg.conf for quite some time now with generally good detection. Only proprietary driver users tend to need such a thing (but only minimals), which their drivers can make (at least, nvidia can with nvidia-xconfig). Most of the tools that I know of to do what you ask are accordingly out of date.
