XVR-1200 graphics card - dual monitor mirror

Hi,
I've inherited a SunBlade with an XVR-1200 graphics card, currently setup in widescreen mode over 2 monitors. I've been asked whether it is possible to setup the card, or Solaris, such that the second monitor displays exaclty what is on the primary monitor - i.e. everything is replicated (mouse movements, applications, etc). This is a live production system so I haven't had the chance to experiment.
I've checked the graphics card manual - doesn't seem to be a way to do this in hardware. So is this possible via some Xserver change or 3rd party s/w? Wondering if there is someway to use VNC to do this.
Regards,
Ian

I haven't had any replies to my request, so I'm going to try to broaden the question (i.e. make it less XVR-1200 specific):
Does anyone know of a graphics card that allows the replication of the primary monitor to the secondary monitor?
Cheers,
Ian

  • Cannot change resolution of XVR-1200 graphics card

We have Sun Blade 2500 running Solaris 9 with an XVR-1200 graphics card in it. We need to be able to change the video resolution, but for some reason this system has lost the capability to do so. We've tried repeatedly invoking the "fbconfig -res" command to re-define it, but the system simply refuses to change its current resolution. Have tried specifying every device name listed by "fbconfig -list". Have rebooted, tried rebooting with "boot -r". Have tried power-cycling both CPU and monitor. Have tried de-installing/re-installing the XVR-1200 s/w and have installed the latest XVR-1200 patch rev 114555-31. Still the resolution is just "stuck" on its current setting no matter what we do. We know fbconfig used to work before since we have a "fbconfig -prconf" printout that proves the resolution was once set to 1920x1200x60. Which happens to be what we are trying to set it back to from its current setting of 1920x1080x60. We are at our wits end with this. Is there something toxic about the 1920x1080x60 setting that once set you can never change it again? Has anyone else ever been unable to get fbconfig to change the resolution for you? Does it mean the card has gone bad?

  • Fastest Graphic Card & Dual Monitors

    Hi all,
I upgraded my graphics card to ATI Radeon X800 XT 256MB (ADC, dual-link DVI)a little less than a year ago. The card lasted a few months before my I started getting yellow and green horizontal pixelization. Has anyone got any of these cards to work on a G5?
Does anyone know if there a faster/better card out there yet?

I put in my first ATI Radeon X800 XT 256MB 1 year ago to run a 30 inch Apple display. The first card failed in days and the second in about two weeks, both giving corrupted displays. The third card, however, has worked flawlessly for several months. All replacements were made under warranty.

I do not think it can be done without external hardware, taking the same approach as when you get set up for a projector.
Glancing briefly through the Installation Guide of that card, I see no help for what you hope to do.

Technically, this is an OS configuration question and not a hardware issue. You're seeking guidance to manipulate some settings in the GUI.
I'll let it continue, here, for the moment. Consider duplicating your question in one of the Solaris forums.

Hello, I have a Mac computer with NVIDIA 750M dedicated graphics card and monitor EIZO but the problem was there when I was working with Windows and Acer monitor. When I open a file from Camera Raw in PS this is smaller than the screen so I double-click with the tool "hand" to fit on the screen, but the picture loses sharpness and becomes blurry. If you magnify the image even only slightly with the tool "zoom" the picture comes back clear. In Camera Raw instead is always sharp. I solve the problem by turning off the graphics card in PS but often use plugin that need the graphics card otherwise the processing time is much longer. I ask for help.
    Thanks.

  • Need Xorg config file for dual graphics cards, triple monitors

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble getting triple monitors working on my system. The two plugged into the graphics card (radeon x300) work fine, but the one plugged into onboard graphics (geforce 6150SE) refuses to appear in xrandr. I figure I need to make a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf file but I'm confused about how to do it with separate cards. I find the wiki instructions that I can find confusing, as I've never had to deal with xorg files before (has always autoconfigured for me no problems).

I just can't seem to understand how to write the 10-monitor.conf file. I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand?
Also, the third monitor to be connected via onboard VGA is also 1280x1024 and will be left of the other two.

Depends on the motherboard. This one allows you to enable the onboard graphics only when no external card is found, or always enable. The PCI-E card initialises first, if that helps.
EDIT: Also I can confirm that it can run both cards (all three monitors) at the same time by switching to initialise the onboard card first, however that makes some weird stuff happen so I switched it back. And also the nouveau driver is shown in lsmod, and gets detected in the boot message logs.

  • Graphics Card and Monitor

Recently, vertical colored lines appeared on my monitor. This also occured with a second monitor. Several suggestions about the nature of the problem included the pram battery (I ordered a new one) and possibly the graphics card. My current card is a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Two questions: 1) Is there a diagnositc piece of software that can be run to verify the status of this card? 2) If I replace the card, what replacement card will work with my Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi-
The vertical lines being produced on the monitors will be due to a heat damaged graphics card.
Cleaning the graphics card fan and heat sink, as well as replacing the thermal compound may help, but it also may be too late.
AHT can test the VRAM of the card, but if the GPU is the problem, or, if it is a different chip that is damaged, the test will be inconclusive.
There are many card options listed here:

Either used OEM or flashed, make sure to inquire as to the status of the card before you buy.

  • Installed Geforce GTX 650 graphics card, but monitors won't turn on

I have installed a geforce gtx 650 graphics card in my hp pavilion and a corsair hx750 power supply, but after installing it and trying to get it to work the monitor won't detect any signal from the dvi plugs. I've tried looking up the problem before, and I think it is because the hp pavilion is an AMD, so it is locking out any new hardware in the computer, but after uninstalling everything and putting the original power supply back in, the monitors still won't get signal. I don't know if I might have broke something while trying to hook up the power supply or graphics card, but i figured someone else could figure out the problem.

  • Mac pro - multiple graphics cards - multiple monitors - gaming?

    Hi there
Early 2008 I purchased a mac pro, with 2 8800gts and 1 2600xt. Works amazingly well, as it was originally purchased for number crunching (video cards were purchased to take advantage of openCL in snow leopard) and more screen realestate. (3 monitors)
But the thought occurred to me... I am also a bit of a gamer...
Are there any games that take advantage of multiple video cards???
Mac or windows game recommendations are welcomed!
    Thanks!

I'm sorry if my question was a little ambiguous, let me try to rephrase.
If anyone is familiar with the Nintendo DS system, you will understand that this handheld device has 2 screens.. one is used primarily as a game screen, the second screen has the game map or console or some kind of readout or whatever. Bottom line is, the game takes advantage of 2 screens.
My question to the masses is:
Are there any games in Mac OS or Windows that take advantage of multiple monitors, and therefore multiple video cards. Not SLI or Crossfire as I understand the Mac Pro hardware does not support it. My question relates to any software titles like Flight Simulators, that can render images on 2 screens connected to 2 separate video cards.
I have a copy of XPlane, and unfortunately, it only supports multiple monitors on a single video card, not multiple monitors on multiple video cards.
    So, just rehashing,
Are there any games that are capable of rendering images or gameplay on 2 different video cards at the same time?
    If so, what are they?
Cheers and sorry for the confusion.

  • Graphics Card Question Mac Pro

So I have one NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB in my mac pro and I wanted to add one more card to my comp just wondering how this works.. For example, could I add the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and would the two work compatibly?
Or would I have to just grab another NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB and double up on that?
There are 4 PCI Slots right? Anyway another question I had was I heard that you should make a drive designated just for rendering and keeping your files. It was actually Larry Jordan who said this. Anyway he was saying DO NOT partition your drive to create this extra drive for your Rendering Files/media.
So okay, what does that mean would I have to just buy another hard drive and put it in Bay 2 of my tower? Designating that just for what Larry Jordan was talking about?
Okay well thanks sorry this post is getting a little big -Nick

Well, to be precise: the current version of FCP on tiger and Leopard has some issues with some FxPlugs if you have more than one graphics card with monitors plugged into them. You can have a graphics card in all four slots, you just can't have monitors on them. I had the horsepower to drive 8 30" displays from 4 dual-head graphics cards. I took three of them out since they were fundamentally useless.
No one knows what the next rev of FCP on Snow Leopard will be capable of doing with more than one card and more than two monitors.
You want a drive in each bay if you're going to be doing video seriously and not as a hobby. If you can afford FCP for a hobby, you can afford the drives so get them anyway.
    You want the 4870 card.
You want all the RAM you can afford.

  • Mission Control Dual Monitors moving windows between desktops

So far I like the new Mission Control however I am having what I beleive to be an issue.
I have a dual monitor setup and multiple Desktops configured. If I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 it works but if I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 it will not let me. I have to do the move in two steps. First I have to move it to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 and then from there I can move it to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 ?
Please can someone verify this ? Is this a limitation or a bug ?

Hehe, Linux+Compiz rulezzz. You can tweak it the way YOU need and not Apple think you should do 'cause they "just knows better what market needs"
My ideal setup on Linux workstation was: 2 Graphics Cards, 4 Monitors, 2 of them fixed, so I could put there applications and windows which should be permanently seen, for example -- Zenoss monitoring dashboard (screen 1) and stocks tickers (screen 2)
Screen 3 and 4 respectively were part of the Compiz Cube with Xinerama activated, e.g. one extra wide desktop across 2 monitors, seen as semi-transparent Cube during transitions between 4 virtual destops, so I could almost immediately see where all my windows are.
And now, Apple, could you tell me, If I've got Mac Pro with 2 Graphics Cards and 4 Monitors, is such a setup feasible with Mission Control?... OK, ok, you don't have such an eycandy as Transparent Compiz Cube, I could survive without, but having simultaneously 2 monitors as part of virtual desktop and 2 others fixed is absolut 'a must have', so, now's your turn... HOW?

  • Windows 10 thinks 2 graphic cards = projector

    Lenovo IdeaPad P580, Windows 10
    > All the drivers are up to date
When I boot, the screen stays black but displays the pointer. That's because Windows 10 believes a second graphic card is like a projector, so the image is "sent" to a non-existent other screen. With Windows + P, this can be solved, but this is very annoying. Isn't there some sort of workaround ?

    Hi Gary!
How many graphic cards and monitors are you using with FCP?
It would be nice to have two X1900 but it's not possible with current architecture :\
OK a would buy another ATI card but I think it's hard to find any other than X1900 for MacPro's

  • Graphic Card Initiate failed

I have a new MSI Eclipse m'board (MS-7520) with an Intel i7 920 processor. I have some Corsair DDS3 RAM (1333). My problem is the amount of time it takes for the graphics card to initialize. I have the graphics card plugged into PCI_E2 black slot. When it boots up, my monitor recognises that there is a DVI cable plugged in and it's powered on, but it'll just sit there with a blank screen and the D-LED 2 has the VGA.ini message displayed. It will bring up the BIOS splash screen and OS eventually, but the amount of time it takes is not right.
I've tried 2 different monitors, 2 different cables, only one RAM module, resetting CMOS, m'board out of case, VGA connection, and of course 3 different video cards. All graphics cards and monitors work fine in or with other PCs.
The graphics cards I've tried are PX6600 GT (I have 2 of these) and GeForce 9400 GT.
I've run out of ideas. Is the MSI Eclipse so picky that it needs only a particular brand/type of graphics card??

This problem is caused by using a USB Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. I contacted MSI, they sent me a new BIOS version (1.45) and problem solved. Why a keyboard causes video card delays, I can't explain, but it does and MSI have come to the party and fixed the problem.

  • M91p dual monitor graphics card issue

    Hello,
My work recently purchased a Thinkcentre m91p - model number 7052C9U without realizing that it was not dual monitor capable.  We're a small business and have no IT division so it is up to me to solve this problem for myself.
Ive been doing some research via google but have not come to any real conclusion about which graphics card I should get that is compatible and will allow me to use 2 monitors.
Can anyone here direct me in this regard? Im looking for a quality yet inexpensive graphics card, compatible with my model of Thinkcentre, that will allow me to go dual monitor.
    Thank you in advance,
    Brian

I'm confused, it has 2 monitor ports, a VGA port and a DisplayPort.
If you are not using a DisplayPort capable monitor, which many are not, you do need an adapter for that port, ie. DisplayPort to DVI.
