Y40 Windows 10 post update boot time problem

Hey Guys, I have a Y40 with 8GB RAM and 2 GB AMD Graphics and I updated my Windows 8 to Windows 10. I encountered the Power error which was dealt with earlier in another thread. I was able to fix it. Thanks. Now, I have another boot up related issue.I used to get 25-30 second boot time with Windows 8. But now, it takes 3 minutes to get to the login screen and another 3 minutes to start doing anything on the desktop. I get the normal lenovo log in screen once I press the power button. Then, the screen becomes black and stays that way for about 2 minutes doing nothing. I get the cursor that can move around and that is it. Even after login, It takes a long time to settle down and let me start working. I checked the startup menu and pushed the startup items to the bare minimum. Is anybody else experiencing the same problems?  If so Is there a way I can fix it?

I'll add to this by saying I am having similar lengthened boot and login times, but it appears that since resolving the graphics driver issue my boot times have sped up. Login times still take about 30 seconds longer than before. I'm assuming this is a Windows related issue, not a hardware-related issue.  Are you using a fusion drive or just a straight-up hard drive? I'm assuming my laptop is booting/logging in faster now because the fusion service Lenovo provides is learning what should be assigned to flash storage and what should be kept on the HDD. Give it another day or two and see if you notice a speed increase at all.

  • X301 post BIOS / Model Number update System Time problems

    Dear community,
I recently updated my BIOS using the thinkvantage flash BIOS utility for no reason other than it appeared on the update utility. I also updated the model number, once again for no real reason other than update pleasure. Now, everything works perfectly fine on the system, and I have no problems EXCEPT:
I use New York Times Adobe Air product called "Times Reader". Since the update, when I try to log into the Times Reader I get an error that states "Authentication Error. Check that your system time is set correctly." In the pre-boot set up screen the time seems to be set right, and in the windows utility the time is set correctly. So my questions is,
after a BIOS flash / Model # update, does the system time function need some re-boot / update?
    Thanks!

Well I still dunno what the problem was.  It seemed as if the system would have to be running for a day or two before it would start to speed up, as if it was actually gaining a few milliseconds cumulatively every second...
Anyway, through other testing (OC & such) I flashed to 1.5B5 and it is running pretty good, and seems to have fixed the time problem.
On a side note, 1.5B5 is the first BIOS that actually makes Cool 'N Quiet work (to underclock to 1GHz at idle & dynamically OC when needed).
If anyone has experienced this time issue, please post findings!  For now, it's fixed for me, so I'm not going to worry about it

  • Windows 10 AMD HD 7400M long boot time problem

Greetings! After installing Win 10 Pro x64 on my old HP ProBook 4530s I've encountered a serious problem with booting time. After system starts up and windows logo apears i'm getting a black screen for 2-3 minutes and only after that login screen is shown. This problem apears after installing drivers for integrated AMD HD 7400M video card. It does not metter if driver was installed from Window Update or from AMD site. Situation is the same.

    Hi all,
I like to give an update to my old discussion: partly solved.
    1#
I do not have issues any more with endless bootup - solved by repairing access rights from time to time
    2#
I still do have the issue that my iMac is hanging from time to time (matter of hours). Usually no kernel panic or anything I can hook on, but mouse and iTunes keep on moving and playing. I have lately updated to 10.9. Same issue. So it must be HW. Unfortunately.

  • Hp dv7 intel, windows 10 extremely slow boot times and lagging and glicthy

I did the free upgrade and the boot time was really really slow. once it came up it was really laggy for a little bit too.i figured might of been an issue with the upgrade instead of a clean boot. so i erased and did a clean boot as well and still had the forever boot time with black screen.. i went back to windows 7 and no issues. has anyone else had this issue with the pavalilion dv7? if so what did you do to fix it?

Hi there  & ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have looked into the issue you are having with the boot time being slow on your Notebook with Windows 10.  I did some research and found a way to make the boot time faster. Although this site is not affiliated with HP, it has some great step by step instructions. The topic is called Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10.  Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. They will be released as they become available to HP. Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • Windows 8.1 first boot time too long

After Sysprep, windows 8.1 tooks long time to boot, is it normal?
    N.A.Malik

    Hi,
Generally, when you sysprep an image and deploy it to other devices, it would prepare the device settings, registry update and other computer configuration. This phase would take some time. We call it as specialize and OOBE pass.
Here we have a metric to assess the first boot time, you can take a look at this guide:

    Hi ,
I followed following step to build NTP in window server 2008 R2.
    Enabling & Configuring NTP Server
    1. Change the server type to NTP.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\Type
In the pane on the right, right-click Type, and then click Modify. In Edit Value, type NTP in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    2. Set AnnounceFlags to 5.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\AnnounceFlags
In the pane on the right, right-click AnnounceFlags, and then click Modify. In Edit DWORD Value, type 5 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    3. Enable NTPServer.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer
In the pane on the right, right-click Enabled, and then click Modify .In Edit DWORD Value, type 1 in
the Value data box, and then click OK
    4. Specify the time sources.
    Open a command prompt and type the command as below: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:peers /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
    peers: time.windows.com or time.nist.gov
    eg: w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:time.windows.com /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
    5. At the command prompt, type the following command to restart the Windows Time service, and then press Enter:
    net stop w32time
    net start w32time
    i run following useful command.
    1. To resynchronize time : w32tm /resync  or w32tm /resync /rediscover
    2. To verify the configuartion : w32tm /query /configuration and w32tm /query /status
    3. Display the current time zone settings : w32tm /tz
Now what problem i am facing , when server goes restart "Window time service stoped" and ntp corrupted.
Even Window time service is set automatically, when i do configure again then NTP work proper.
Please help how to resolve this problem, if server restart NTP goes corrupted becuase of window time service stopped.

  • HP G71-449WM (Windows 7 Prem OA) Booting up problems

Everytime I try to turn on my laptop it shows the "Hp Invent" start up screen. It shows on the bottom left corner "press esc for startup menu" and because I know it won't boot up (I've waited hours for it on the same screen to finally boot up but it hasn't) I'll press esc for the startup menu. But nothing seems to work that I've clicked on yet. I've chosen most of the options on the startup screen. I've taken the charger out and the battery and held the power for more than 20 seconds, and that hasn't helped either. Has my comptuer crashed? Can I get it back to normal? How can I boot up??? Help pleaaase!

    Hi,
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

  • Windows 7 start up boot manager problem

I am using inbuilt Windows 7 ( 64 bit , Home Basic ) on my Sony VAIO laptop . For last few days , i am having a very annoying problem during the start up .
Every time i start my laptop , very soon after the VAIO logo appears , the boot manger prompt appears having "Windows 7" option selected and within fraction of a second it disappears and keep coming till i keep on pressing the ENTER button to start
the OS . I am only using the Windows 7 OS on the system . To get rid rid of it i tried few options suggested on websites - i changed the BIOS settings , in 'msconfig' tried some alternative options in the boot tab and finally i also formatted my
laptop but could not get  rid of the issue . Please help me out with this issue .
    Thanks,

    Hello,
my problem is similar but all sollutions offered are not working for me.
The problem: the bootmanager appears showing available OS and gives the chance to select. I can chose and the spezified OS starts. I also can make the selected OS starting with no timeout (so, no chance to select anything). But everything I tryed to make the
timeout counting back form soemting inbetween 3 and 999 seconds to cero failed. There is just no timeout.
I tryed to configure timeout via (a) *control panel* > *system & security* > *system* > *advanced system settings* > *advanced* next to *startup & recovery*, then (b) I tryed *msconfig* > *start*, the (c) I tryed to use EasyBCD - but
all, nothing helps me to bring the timeout to work.
What I see when I run bcdedit.exe, the timeout is set propperly (see below) - but sill, it is not working while booting - I have to select the OS manually.
Anybody having an idea, what to do to bring the timeout up and working?
    Thx for your help!

    EDIT:
I found a solution by myself:
    (1) via boot-repair I re-installed grub
    (2) via Windows 7 install-disc  I re-installed the Windows bootloader (went into sysrepair tools -> via console with "bootrec /fixmbr" and then "bootrec /fixboot")
    (3) than, back in Windows 7, I used EasyBCD 2.2 community edition, I deleted the old entry for Linux and added a new one pointing to the right place for grub
    (4) finaly, I went into Windows 7 systemsettings to set timeout to 3 second (what was impossible  to be done by EasyBCD for whatever reason)
Now it works fine - both OS can be started and the timeout is working again.

  • Dual boot time problem

I have been having problems dual booting into Windows 7 and Arch.  The time is always slow by a few hours, no matter what I try to do.  I have tried both localtime and UTC and get the same problem.

Is the time slow on Windows and Arch, or just slow on Arch?
Is the time slow by the same amount every boot?
Is the time slow by an exact number of hours and zero minutes?
    grep ^TIME /etc/rc.conf
Is your timezone the same in Windows?

  • What's your macbook boot time ? Post here.

Hello there guys. I own an Apple Macbook 13inch, 2.0ghz Core Duo 512 60GB White, with SuperDrive.
First few days using it I was amazed with how fast the boot time was, but now it seems that it got slower.
My current boot time is arround 25 seconds, starting when I press the power button till it shows me the welcome window to type my password (Please specify if your boot time is WITH or WITHOUT the type password login screen).
I havent added any extra RAM memory or anything.
Please post your boot time !
    Felipe

Mine is 50 seconds with no password sign in.
This is like comparing apples to oranges. There are many factors that could affect boot time. Programs set to run on boot up. Programs that have auxiliary programs run even if their not open. My eyetv and hp printer have these background items that start on boot up.
I think fifty seconds is great. My wife waits forever for her PC to boot and I know it has a lot less stuff start up on boot.
What are you trying to prove by this analysis?

  • Boot up problems into Vista via Bootcamp after changing monitor (to Formac)

Doesn't seem to be general hardware support subsection for Bootcamp forum, I guess this seems like next best place
I am running Windows Vista Business 32 bit via bootcamp on Leopard 10.5.1 on a Mac Pro with 3Gb RAM and with the two systems installed on separate 250Mb hard drives. My GPU is an ATI 1900 512Mb card
Up until now I have used an LG 1920P 19" LCD monitor with this setup, which has been recognised perfectly well by both Leopard and Vista.
I purchased a Formac Gallery 1900 19" LCD in the January sales and now have that connected as main monitor. This works fine with Leopard however Vista has issues. Starting up with the alt key option, I get the MacOS/Windows disk choices come up as usual and select 'Windows' to get Vista, but then the screen goes black and into 'sleep' mode (pulsing front light). After a little time and some disk activity, the computer reboots itself into Leopard. Next time I do start Windows successfully it reports an unsuccessful startup last time.
I tried booting into Vista with the old LG monitor then hot-swapping DVI cables with the Formac, and the Formac is then driven perfectly well in Vista as a plug and play monitor (same as for the LG)
However if I connect both monitors, I can boot into Vista on the new Formac monitor (even if the LG is actually unplugged from the power socket but just connected to the DVI).
I'm very puzzled by this, quite enjoying dual monitors, but I'd still like to be able to boot to Vista using just the single Formac monitor alone. As it seems to be a 'boot-time' problem I suspect the problem may lie with Bootcamp. I tried installing the ATI Catalyst Control Centre in Vista and configuring displays there but it did not help.
Does anyone have any advice please ?

Bad cable? using same port on the X1900?
Display preferences on a SAFE BOOT and make sure that Vista knows about the new monitor? It can have trouble forgetting one and learning about the new monitor, which is "main" and which is "extended desktop" mode.
There have been problems with displays. Might want to look in the Mac Pro: Displays discussion, and bring it up there with other Mac Pro owners.

  • Boot Times on Leopard

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard a few months back, I noticed my boot times increased from about 10-20 seconds to up to what is now ranging between 45 seconds to a full 2 minutes
Just wanted to know if anyone else was facing boot time issues on their macbook pros
Post your boot times here if you can please

Okay, I just ran the entire tests and fixes through both OnyX and Main Menu
Boot times were about 45-60 seconds
Then I tried resetting the PRAM and after I heard it reset for 3 times, the boot time got reduced to 30-35 seconds
Although the first time, my applications seemed longer to open but at least the boot times were down
So looks like holding down the Apple/option/p/r reset for 3 times worked for me
Will 4 or even 5 times do any better?
I'd like to know how resetting it over and over again helps with the boot time

Hello, boot time on my MacBook seems to be very long. Can you please take a look at my bootchart and tell me what do you think?
And also the gnome login is very slow. More precisely, it takes too much time for the desktop to appear after logging in.

exapplegeek, your thread title is far too general. Please rephrase it such like: "Macbook boot time problem" as soon as possible.
And leave the "[BOOTCHART]" part out.

  • Acrobat 7.1 update for Windows (with CS2 Premium) Continuous Configuration at Boot Time

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 on an IBM T43P laptop with current MSFT patches. My system is set to automatically download and apply Adobe Patches.
The patch installs, but requires "configuration" at every boot time. It completes the configuration process and requests re-boot or defer to complete the installation/configuration process.
My system has been doing this for more than a week. I finally uninstalled Acrobat 7.0 (from within CS2 Premium), re-booted, then re-installed Acrobat Pro (within CS2 Premium) for Windows. I downloaded the full 7.1 update and the process has started all over again.
Please advise, as the constant configuration at boot time and request to re-boot is annoying.
    Thanks.

I use a different version of Acrobat, so didn't pay much attention... but I do know this has been discussed before, with a solution
You might try various terms at the SEARCH link
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?126@@.ee6b2f2
From what I do remember (as I said, no details) the solution was "something like"
1 - manually install the update from the download page
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
    2 - turn Acrobat's automatic updating OFF
