Yoga 2 Pro Ideapad windows clean install

Dear Friends,
I have just bought an Intel I7-4510U based Yoga 2 Pro winth pre-installed Windows 8.1. I would like to have a clean system without software add-ons. Can I clean-install Windows 8.1? In other words, can I boot from an USB pendrive in order to install a standard Windows 8.1 OS? Do I need Windows 8.1 Key and where can I find it?
Many thanks in advance for your kind help
Sergio

Not all the drivers work with Windows 7.
That said, you cannot legally flash a Windows 7 SLIC.
If you want a bloatware free Window installation, you might as well buy/acquire a legal Windows 7/8.x key. Once done, just delete all partitions and reformat the computer.
I personally used iOrbit Uninstaller in advance mode and had it remove all the BS leftover files + registry entries. Effectively, it did the same job with less effort.
Also, as long as you don't change the partition types/size, you should be able to revert back to factory install using the OKR button. However, installing a fresh copy of Windows will force you to change from EFI GTP to MBR. Once you do that, you will break the OKR system. Hence why I suggest you delete all partitions and at least recover some lost/dead space.
As I explained elsewhere:
OKR only works if no changes to the partition type and size are made. Once the partitions have been altered, the system is broken and cannot be used. Only $69 (if I am not mistaken) recovery disks can fix this issue.
It sucks and I think the price is absurd. However, shy from installing a retail version of Windows, this is your only option.
I am not sure about the legality of torrent sites in this case. After all, your BIOS stores a legal key. However, Lenovo might be selling the images not the license. If that is the case, torrenting an image of these recovery CDs might be illegal.
Regardless of the fact, you will still need to buy an external CD drive if you go the CD recovery route (unless you use another computer to make the CDs into a bootable recovery disk).

  • Macbook Pro 15in 2010 clean install issue... urgent!

    I have 2010 15in MacBook Pro i7 2.66GHz with a hi-res screen.
It has been running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but lately I noticed the beachball more often so decided to do and upgrade to Mountain Lion using a bootable USB key I made from a 10.8.2 download. Installation was successful and I then ran software update to bring everything into line.
Then I ran in to problems with iPhoto software updates and the library would not update and just crashed out. I also noticed an EFI firmware update was installed as part of software update and wondered if that had caused issues with my iPhoto library (iLife 09)
In frustration I decided to do a clean install so used Disk Utilities on my USB Mountain Lion key to reformat the drive. Now the installer won't work at all. I can see it when I start up and hold down the 'Alt' key and I can select it and it starts the initial 4/5 minute installation. However if just stops with two minutes to go. I even left 30 minutes or so and it hasn't moved.
Since then I have tried using SuperDuper to replicate from a back up drive known to be good with Mountain Lion installed and this fails at the point where Superduper should make the recipient drive bootable. Now I just don't know what to do.
Any advice would be very welcome!
    Thanks,
    Rich

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you cannot boot from your Recovery HD or cannot do the above, then it's possible your hard drive is failing.

  • How do I use existing sync key after Windows clean install?

    Hi,
I had setup Firefox Sync on my old Windows 7 install and I have the Sync Key given during the set up. I had to clean install (format C drive) my Windows.
Is there any way I can use the old Sync Key to get all my bookmarks and stuff back?

    The problem has resolved itself...
...despite spending several pointless hours trying to delete the existing BootCamp drivers without success, I finally restarted Windows yet again - and this time I was easily able to delete the existing drivers.
I then restarted my Mac, installed the latest drivers without issue and it all works just fine.
    Windows, eh?!

  • Microphone doesn't work after Windows clean install

    I have a satellite A135-S4677 (Part# PSAD0U-0N700P) which came with 32 bit vista.
I recently did a 32 bit windows 7 clean install on a new hard drive. Everything works fine except the internal microphone which does not work. If I connect an external mic it works. Speakers work fine.
I have tried the Toshiba Software Installer but it didnt help
I have tried both drivers on toshiba's website for Realtek but it still doesnt work
    driver_audio_realtek_TC40053600B.exe
    driver_audio_realtek_TC40064600A.exe
Anything else I can try. Please help
    Thank you.

    Satellite A135-S4677
After a clean install, the order of loading first the Toshiba supplied hardware drivers and hardware utilities, then the Toshiba utilities and software is critical for success.
1st Hardware Drivers & Hardware Utilities
    1) Chipset related
    2) Display
    3) Sound
    4) All other hardware drivers & hardware utilities
2nd Toshiba Utilities & Toshiba Software
    1) Toshiba Value Added Package (TVAP)
    2) Toshiba Flash Card Utility (sometimes included in the TVAP)
    3) All other Toshiba utilities and Toshiba software
Also, Toshiba laptops are very finicky about only using Toshiba supplied hardware drivers to work properly, and those drivers supplied by Windows Update and/or the chip makers. That's why I recommend disabling automatic Windows Updates. To do this, click 'Start - All Programs - Windows Update', on the menu at left click on 'Change settings', under 'Important updates' click on the drop down menu at right and choose 'Never check for updates (not recommended)', and click OK. Then only manually check for Windows Updates, check all available updates carefully, and never allow Windows Update to change any of your hardware drivers. Though you should still regularly check for updates.
So, after disabling automatic Windows Updates, try downloading and installing these drivers in this order, and see if it resolves your mic problem.
Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility for Windows 7 (32/64)
Intel Display Driver for Windows 7 (32)(v8.15.10.1825)
Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)(v6.0.1.5904)
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Macbook pro 6,2 clean install

    Hi
I've just received an almost new Macbook pro 15" with Snow Leopard (10.6.7) installed.
Since I would like to make a clean install of the Macbook I think I need the original SL install dvd which wasn't provided by the previous user of the Macbook.
I went to an Apple retailer here in the U.A.E where I live and there i bought an Snow Leopard (10.6.3 Retail) install DVD.
I haven't had any luck getting that longer than the boot screen with the grey Apple logo and the white background.
Can any one help me out what to do?
I either need a Install DVD for my Macbook or I need some solution to howto install the SL i bought at the store instead?
    Any help greatly appreaciated, thanks

Contact the prior owner of the machine and ask for the original DVDS. The retail SL installer is too old to be usable on a nearly-new (2011 model) MacBook Pro.
If you can't get the original discs that way, you'll have to call Apple Customer Relations at 1-800-767-2775 (if you're in the USA) and order duplicate discs, which I think cost about $60 for the set. There is no other disc you can use to install Mac OS X on that machine.
If you're not in the USA, call AppleCare in your region and ask how to order the replacement discs.

  • Macbook pro (early 2011) clean install?

hey everyone, i have had a macbook for about 5 years and just recently purchased a macbook pro ... i've seen a lot of people talking about doing a clean install on their new macbook pro's ... what are the benefits of doing this? is it really necessary? what would i need to have to do it?
i'm know computers some what, so i should be able to do it, if it really does help. thanks in advance for the help!

I just did a clean install and it has fixed a lot of my problems so far...
There are times when you update from one OS to another that create new bugs due to small incompatibility problems. For example you can take a look at the problems I had: (I went from Snow Leopard to Lion)
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3241471?tstart=30
    and
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3241648?tstart=0
To do a clean install you just need to:
    >Make a full backup of your HD (Use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper)
    >Make sure it works!
    >boot into Recovery partition
    >open disk utility
    >erase your HD
    >exit disk utility
    >start the Lion reinstall
When asked hook up your backup and let Lion copy all your information over to your new install...
    > Done

  • T60 windows clean install- any tips?

I have managed to make a mess of my windows installation after three years or so- and I would love to start fresh from factory and apply more sense to my software installation this time around.  Now it seems like the best way to do that is to create a set of Recovery discs and then back up my info, wipe the drive, and then install from the recovery discs.
I have two issues with this however:
1: I have a larger HD and it'd be dandy if I could recover to that disc instead (however if I can just clean install and then image transfer that would be fine too)
2: (and most urgent) The Recovery disc creation tool does not seem to recognize my DVD/CD Drive.
I have updated all system files and installed the Lenovo-recommended upgrades- I am surely out of warranty by now so Support is lackadasical at best and expensive at worst.
Is there a fairly well-vetted process for this?  Has anyone seen the Recovery error before?  Do I have any other choice other than trying to obtain recovery discs from another t60?  Thanks in advance-

Similar situation here.  Also with an early-2011 MBP 15".
Not with the MBP's trackpad, but with the wireless trackpad.

  • Mac Pro won't clean install OSX on new HDD

I have a Mac Pro early 2008 and I was running windows and mac on 2 separate hard drives. I was using the 500gb WD hdd that came with the mac that had mac installed and I just upgraded to mavericks, and I was also using a new WD 1TB hdd for Windows (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0088PUEPK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1394048774&sr=8-1). I was using windows more because I was having trouble switching back and forth and sometimes the mac hdd wouldn't show up. I tried a few different things with the harddrive and I just came to the conclusion that the mac hdd was dead. It was the original hdd that came with the Mac Pro so it was pretty old I figured it just died, it wouldn't show up anywhere. Anyways, I bought. 2TB WD hdd (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008YAHW6I) to use for mac and now when I tried to install it with the retail mac snow leopard install disk from apple, it gets to the grey apple logo with the loading circle and just stays there forever. I've left it on for a while and it still stays there, which is the same thing that happened when I tired to reinstall it to the old mac harddrive that I think is dead. I've started up into boot option and the new hdd doesn't show up, idk if it's supposed to show up being that's it's a new hdd or what. So I'm not sure if the hard drive is incompatible or the installer disc is incompatible with this Mac Pro. Or the 2tb is too big, I've heard people run up to 3tb on one hard drive on mac pros and they still run good. So I'm not sure, if anybody could please help I'm sure it's probably something simple. Links to the harddrives I have are above. Thanks a lot !

No 2TB is not too big, though it is overly large for a boot drive.
A 128 or 250GB SSD is just about perfect for system boot drive - for either system.
Cloning for backup is the best type of insurance against issues. Two probably, one you can have a copy of the working sytem, one older safe copy. And use those to repair.
you might have been able to clone it. You might be able to mount it and use Data Rescue 3.
A "recovery drive" and two backup drives: TimeMachine and clone.
System drive and "data" drive for all the media and data and other non system files, all YOUR user folders and files.
Did you change out the video card? that could be one reason why. Apple's ATI 5770 requires 10.6.5+ - beyond the build of the retail Snow Leopard.
You could try buying Mountain Lion too.
With good backup clones then rare to ever need to redo and install the system. But it is good to start fresh when you have a new OS, and to format any drive at that time, and probably on a yearly basis - and not just keep using same drive for system, or for data.
I would think that without proper maintenance and use of Disk Utility: Repair Disk, you just had simple directory corruption issues.

  • Yoga Pro 3 - Windows 10 - battery not charging

Hi  I upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since then my laptop battery is not charging. I am a computer illiterate and travelling at the moment so can not even seek my IT departments help. The problem is that the battery shows 1% charge and when connected it to AC the laptop works well - as soon as I disconnected, it goes into hibernate. The symbol for AC connection does show so the laptop is detecting the charger. Along with this I keep on getting a battery calibration suggestion and says that I have not calibrated my battery in a long long time - although I do it every time it shows up. So I dont know what that is. Before the Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop on a 100% charge was giving me up to 6 hours of usage so I doubt there's anything wrong with the battery physically.  Would appreciate an experts advice on this. Please speak to me as you would to a 4 year old as like I said I'm completely computer illiterate!  Thanks & Regards

  • Doing a clean install of W7Pro from XP. How to save and re-install my FF settings

    Hi
1st question. Is it ok to use XP after Microsoft stops support. What's the danger, if any. How do I keep it safe. Will virus and malware protection be enough. Some computer experts say it's ok to keep using it for at least a few years.
If I update the OS, it will be to Windows 7 Pro with a clean install. I will need to backup my important stuff. As far as FF goes, I will have to re-install it so how do I save all my FF settings, bookmarks etc and re-install them.
    Thanks

  • Trying to clean install Mavericks onto OSX 10.5.8

I am trying to clean insall an old 2008 MacBook Pro that has OSX 10.5.8 currently installed. I made a mavericks usb installer with another updated MacBook Pro. The clean install was sucessful with the other Mac, but that one was already running Mavericks before I clean installed. Just wondering if my thinkning is correct that I can back up the OSX 10.5.8 Mac using timemachine and then clean install mavericks after. Please just confirm that this can be done.

you need at least 10.6.8 to install Mavericks as an upgrade.
A clean install would be doable if you meet all the req.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
