Yoga 2 Pro Resolution Scaling Issues

So I just picked this laptop up from Best Buy the other day and so far I am loving it. However that is not to say that it has been entirely without issues so far and I do apologize if this issue has been brought up before but I was unable to find a decent answer in my searches.
I have checked this on a few games but I will focus on one that I want to play the most but also seems to have the most issues.
So this laptop is just not powerful enough to run a lot of games at the full 3200x1800 resolution and I totally understand that and was not expecting to, however, when turning the resolution down, say to 1600x900 instead of scaling the resolution to fill the screen, it runs it as the actual pixels inside a black box. This has the effect of making the games just too tiny to see, not to mention half or more of the screen is just being wasted.
This seems to really only happen when running a game in Direct X 11 mode, DX9 seems to work fine, but causes other problems and is really not a great option. Alternately, some games, I can set the windows resolution down (which scales fine in windows) and then the game will run and scale. However, specificially with Civilization 5 (one of the games I was most excited to play) it still does not work properly. There is a work around, but it is less than ideal, and I am at a loss as to why I just cant run the game at a lower resolution and have it scale and fill the screen.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

There is a setting, however, when at native resolution, instead of giving the option to scale to fit display, it just has another option that says maintain display scaling or something like that (I am not on the laptop right now, so I have to double check). As far as I can tell it just does not scale properly. When I change to a non-native resolution, the options change and it then says scale to fit screen, which is what i want.
However, I would rather not have to change to a non native resolution every time I want to run a game. And, specifically in the case of Civilization 5, it doesn't help. The only thing I have found so far that works at all is to change the resolution to 1920x1080, then set the ingame resolution to 1440x900. It is a pain, and ends up in a streched picture.
I tried to install the latest intel drivers from their website (not sure if it would have fixed the issue, since there was no changelog) but it gave me an error saying they were not verified for my device.
This is a rather frustrating issue, especially considering that every computer I have ever owned up until this point has been able to scale the image to fit the screen with no problems what so ever.

  • QHD+ Resolution Scaling Issues Windows 8

I've read that QHD+ resolution monitors like the Dell Precision m3800 with a 3200x1800 resolution screen are having scaling issues with Windows 8, and even 8.1. Some programs scale correctly, but I have specifically heard Adobe programs including Adobe After Effects do NOT scale correctly.
Are there plans to fix this with the next Windows release? Or a patch before then?
Any rough estimate as to when that would be?
Does it work at the moment to scale the monitor down to a lower resolution to fix it? Is it in fact tested and not just assumed. (I have no way of checking and can't get a straight answer)
I want to buy this laptop soon, but I need it for After Effects and if it's not usable, it won't be a good buy. Would love to have some concret answers!
    Thanks!

The CC versions of Adobe programs support high-DPI displays, but not older ones. If you use an older version, this won't change. Nobody goes back to old code.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 - Scaling Issue 720p

    Hello,
I'm working with HDV1080p footage in an HDV720p project. I'm experiencing a flashing edge in my Program window when playing back footage in a sequence. The 1080p footage has been placed in the sequence without any scaling, or "Scale To Frame Size" applied. There is a flashing, jittering edge that appears on the right-hand side of the frame during playback.
The same flashing, jittering block of video on the right edge of the frame also appears in exported video.
Any help fixing this will be greatly appreciated,
    Thank-you,
    Andrew

    hi,
I'm new at using premier pro cs3 ( 3 weeks about )...  so I'm no expert.
I'm curious if you know about a program called GSpot, which lets you get information about a source file or exported file...gives a lot of information about the specific nature of the video and audio.  If you do a "screen capture" of the GSpot program with your source file, you can upload that screenshot here (should be 450 pixels or less in width to upload here ) and people would know what kind of file you are dealing with.
I have a sample 1080p file that was already converted to a MOV from RAW original, which I loaded into Premiere project of HD 720x480, and it looked good, previewed well (though cropped a lot, it was centered in the project monitor).  Then I exported as a Quicktime (using H 264) and although the clip lost a lot of quality it exported OK and looks fair.
You might upload more specifics about what your source is and what you want to export as, and I'm sure people here can help.

  • Surface Pro 3, Remote Desktop, multiple monitors, Windows 8.1 DPI scaling issues

I have been evaluating Surface Pro 3 and once of the attributes is the display. Here is the description of the environment and the remote desktop display issue.
Surface Pro 3 (Windows 8.1 with latest firmware and Windows updates) has 12 inch built-in screen with native resolution 2160x1440. The Surface is docked and an external monitor (native resolution 1920x1080) is connected to the docking stations. The
display configuration doesn't allow for different scaling for each monitor, single scaling value is used for multiple monitors. This is an issue as the recommended scaling of 150% is optimal for small built-in screen of Surface but it is not optimal for
large screens of external monitors. Also this scaling is "inherited" by a remote desktop session which results in objects being too large on the remote desktop sessions or sometimes even blurry/fuzzy.
Can the blurriness/fuzziness of the remote desktop session be resolved?
    Z

    Hi Colin,
Thanks for the response. I installed the latest firmware and patches about a week ago and the scaling issue improved. It is not optimal yet as some graphical elements are still out of proportions but I do not want to spent more resources on this subject
    anymore.
    Best regards,

  • Yoga Pro 2 on External Monitor...but low resolution

Although my Yoga Pro 2 connects properly to my Viewsonic monitor (thank you, Monoprice, for the micro-HDMI adapter and the HDMI to DVI cable), the best resolution I can get is 1440x900 (the native resolution of the last computer connected) which makes everything look GIGANTIC on the monitor and doesn't show the detail of the 3200X1800 Yoga Pro screen.
Intel drivers are updated, Viewsonic monitor drivers for win8/x64 all set. Viewsonic says it a Lenovo issue...Lenovo so far can't help me. I have tried changing view/zoom in every software program and app, but that's not the solution I want. Even 1900X ???? would be better.

    PATIENCE...
First, it is most likely the microHDMI fitting inside the yogapro. It is very deep. When you put a micro HDMI adapter in to connect it to whatever it needs to connect to to ultimately reach your monitor, it must be firmly seated. And it feeels like it is..but probably not.
Monoprice.com offers 2 microHDMI adapters: part 7703 and part 7603. Either one should work...but you may need to take an emery board or nail file to the plastic housing around the actual part that goes into your machine. That's because you need a long reach to the actual socket inside the YP2. From there I use the monoprice HDMI-DVI cable to attach to my monitor (LG, but not important. Only important thing is that the ratio of width/height is 1.7778, or 1920x1080 etc)
Make sure the monitor is turned on....and start JIGGLING. Be 100% sure that the YP2 is sitting on a very hard surface, granite, corian, etc...and that the machine doesn't get moved around at all. Do not put it on a cooling pad, or a place mat or anything squooshy like that. Keep a bunch on small thin things around as you jiggle...because at some point you are going to succeed and you must not jar anything as you put the need supports to maintain that crucial angle VERY CAREFULLY in place. It is tedious...but the result is worth it. And then deciding on your personalization will keep you busy.
As much as I like the YP2 as a computer...I have never used it as a tablet (iPhone/Kindle user) and probably never will because the task of getting the Micro HDMI adapter seated properly is something that is hateful enough that I don't want to move the machine once it is working with the external monitor. Furthermore, the personalization setting are different for me with/without external monitor and not worth the hassle.

  • Yoga Pro 2 - Display not recognized in windows (Driver or Hardware issue?)

Out of warranty by a month!
Yoga Pro 2 - 256gb, installed new wireless card a month ago. Windows 8.1
The touchscreen still works while the screen is black.
System restarted after sleep mode I think.
The Lenovo logo is displayed, seems to load windows, but when windows loads (I don't see it load so this is an assumption) the screen blanks and the black light is on.
I can connect an external monintor which will connect after a return from sleep mode(odd). Which then turns the backlight off.
When on the external monitor the internal display is not even recognized by windows.
When I boot in safe mode, the internal screen works fine with of course limited capability.
I have reloaded display drivers from the support site.
Right now my internal monitor is not recognized by windows and is dark, and I can use an external monitor.
Anyone have any clues as to what my be going on? Hardware, driver etc???
    What information can I provide?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is a pretty weird issue with conflicting observations.
    1) Screen works in Safe Mode but not in regular boot. (So, not hardware issue)
    2) Display works on external monitor in regular mode. (So, not drivers issue)
Did you install the wireless card yourself? Did you unplug the display cable while installing the card?
Could you re-open and check that all connections are good?
Is the Wi-Fi card working well?
I would also recommend a complete reset of the laptop to eliminate the possibility that this is a corrupt driver. You can use the NOVO button to reset your laptop. Make sure to make a backup on external drive for your personal files.

  • Resolution scaling for MacBook Pro (non-retina)

I see that the MacBook Pro Retina has a nifty resolution scaling feature that can make the fonts/icons look bigger while maintaining the display's native resolution.
Does the non-Retina MBP have the same ability? I would really like to be able to scale by 125% (fonts/icons appear 125% bigger) while keeping native resolution of 1440x900.

Sorry, but I don't think it's possible.  The Retina display does let you choose a couple options that are higher resolution than half, but as far as I can tell those appear blurry just like selecting that smaller resolution does for you, and all it really does is make the OS treat it like that's the resolution.  At best you'd only get a few things taht would look any better than just straight up setting your resolution to 1280x800.  I looked around a lot and wasn't able to find anything.
@pcpu  Sorry, but that wasn't what he was asking.  On the Retina MacBook you have 4 or 5 scale options, a few of them make it so you don't have the full resolution possible, but it's bigger than 1/2 the display resolution anyway, and I guess it might display UI elements that are vector in the actual full resolution, but most things look blurry from what I've heard.  He was asking if it was possible to do that same thing on his display, which I looked into, and I was unable to find any way to make the computer do the same thing on a non-retina display.  Telling him about how retina works isn't what he wanted, he wanted the UI bigger, and the UI is entirely vector or some such at this point so it would have looked just fine bigger if he could scale.

  • Audio streaming from phone to yoga 2 pro via bluetooth issue

    Hi everyone,
I have got a Yoga pro 2 recently and the problem I'm having is that I;m unable to stream audio from my Nexus 5 phone to the pc through bluetooth. The device and the pc paired normally during setup. Though I find it odd that when I turn off bluetooth connectivity on the phone and turn it back on, the pc does not automatically connect so I have to unpair or remove and redo a new find and pair for the two. Ok, now the problem is after the connection is set nothing happens and there is no way to stream the audio to the yoga pc running windows 8.1. On my other pc, a Sony Vaio, also running win 8.1 pro (upgraded from win 8 pro) , once the phone and the Sony are paired via bluetooth, a windows pops out to immediately play the audio. I have check all the bluetooth drivers and they are up to date, and I even downloaded bluetooth drivers from lenovo support but no change. What's missing? Why can I not stream audio via BT? Why nothing happens when connected?

Bluetooth tethering is sharing your phone's internet connection with the computer, that's why there is an extra charge.  This is not what you want.  I would go into the bluetooth settings of both your phone and computer to make sure you are not missing something.  Also, an easier solution (bluetooth is unbearably slow for file transfer) may be to look into the app called AirDroid.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zYW5kLmFpcmRyb2lkIl0.

  • Resolution Scaling on Macbook Pro

I have Windows running on bootcamp and I love having the ability to run 1080p.  Is it possible to do the same kind of resolution scaling on OS X?
By the way, I understand that a 1280x800 display can't display 1080p due to the fact that there's not enough pixels... I'm asking about scaling.

  • Scanning: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.

    Good Day.
I have recently discovered an issue with scanning.  I have tried scanning straight from the printer, through image capture, and through preview.  All yeilding the same results since they are essentailly kicking off the same scanning applet.  I can scan a jpeg formatted file as long as I applet is in the "Hide Details" mode.  If I click on the "Show Details" button, which I need to do to scan to PDF, I immediately receive an error stating: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.
I'm currently using an HP C5180 printer.   The most recently installed software was Adobe Digital Editions (I installed this to read an on-line e-book).  Not sure if there is any correlation.    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Sig
The scanner works with a Windows computer, which proves the device is functional at a cursory level. The drivers are now distributed by Apple and this is an Apple computer. There is no scanning software provided by HP. HP's answer is that Mountain Lion takes care of all of this.  I anticipate that some setting or driver was somehow tweaked since the scanner had been working with Mountain Lion until a few days ago.  The device in question is an Apple product. So, I'm pretty confident that I'm in the right place.

So I'm really interested in a Yoga Pro 2 (especially with the sale on at BB this week)...however, I have a couple questions about it:
    1)  I already know about the yellow problem - hoping it's resolved soon but its keeping me on the fence about this one vs. a Sony
    2)  The resolution has forced some apps to have extremely small text...from what I read it's mainly in "Desktop" mode.  Can someone confirm this ?  I haven't had much chance to use Windows 8 yet so haven't seen Desktop vs. Start mode compared.  In what instances would Desktop be used ?
    3)  I'm still not sure about the exposed keys - from what I read Lenovo has some sort of case or protective cover for the keys ?  Can someone send me a link ?  How well does it work ?
    Thanks!

    1. can mostly be worked around with the Energy Manager software. Even with that, the yellow is not perfect, but the issue has been massively overblown in my opinion. You'll have to see it for yourself and decide. It's a non-issue for me, personally.
    2. Yeah, they high res does reult in small fonts in some legacy apps. Probably poorly written ones for the most part. But it's a small minority of apps. I haven't run into any major problems, but where this happens, the touch screen is useless with those apps. you really need a mouse. I expect this will become less and less a problem as more high dpi laptops become mainstream and apps take this into account.
    3. The case is here: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...
I just received mine this morning. It's decent. Snugly fits the whole machine as a carrying case, or slips more loosely over the keyboard section when you're using it in the non-laptop modes. Haven't had a chance to use it much but it seems like it will be fine. There are cutouts for most of the ports, so things are mainly still accessible with the case on.

  • Yoga Pro 3 - Wifi dropped connections; refuses to reconnect

First day of owning my Yoga Pro 3. Has anyone experienced intermittent wifi failures?
I've had trouble on both access points that I have at home. One is an older 802.11b router (set to channel 1), and other a D-Link815 dual-band bgn router (with the 2.4Ghz radio set to channel 11).
I've experienced problems using both routers on either channel and when using the 5Ghz spectrum as well.
Connectivity with either access point lasts from 5 mins to 30+ mins (in limited time I had available to use it so far).
Far more frustrating is that when dropped, the YP3 refuses to reconnect. Manually selecting the access point in the network connections charm and clicking "Connect" results in failed attempts at connecting and system will refuse to connect to any Access Point for a random amount of time. At one point I had attempted to reconnect about 20+ times before it did reconnect.
Obviously, tried rebooting without any change in behavior.
I uninstalled the Broadcom wireless driver (the system the auto-installed a Microsoft driver which, from the version number, appeared to be an older version of the same Broadcom driver as they used a very similar numbering scheme and were very close). No change. I reverted that change.
Are there known issues with these wifi cards/drivers accessing open wifi connections? I live in the middle of no-where, so have had no compelling reason to secure the access points.
    What else should I try?
    Thanks

My WiFi connects fine @ 2.4 GHz only Access Point (netgear wnr2000 v2) 4 rooms away (~ 35 feet and my Linksys router is on the same room as me so I get 866.5 Mbps all the time), giving me fluctuating connection speed from 243 to 300 Mbps. I generally don't use the 2.4 GHz band but I occasionally try it to check for stability. It's working fine but there's too much 2.4 GHz clients in our area so I use 5 GHz for Netflix, Hulu steaming where low latency stability is needed.
Definitely try reseating the antenna so you can rule that out. If you still can't connect @ 2.4 GHz, try other 2.4 Ghz access points or it's just that you get a defectve Broadcom 4352 card or it might be even Windows 8.1 drivers itself.

CS6 was released before HiDpi displays were common and there are no adjustments in that program.
You can try going into Preferences > Interface and changing the UI Font Size to Large.
You could also try lowering your display resolution until  is decently readable.
Another step is joining Creative Cloud. Photoshop CC 2014 has 200% UI Scaling.

My issues are that When I try to convert a Word 2010 report to PDF, some of the graphics and text end up missing.

The Acrobat Ribbon button, the SAVE AS ADOBE PDF, and printing using Adobe options give less than acceptable quality.
