Yoga 3 pro cant stream video on external display or laptop

Saw a previous post on this, didnt seem like it was fixed.  Having real issues with hooking up to an external display, when the web browser (chrome) is extended to the external display, my internet lags hard...i cant even stream a vid on youtube.
I've disabled realtek (fixed cracking speakers) tried a completely new cord set up from micro hdmi to dvi...nothing works.  When i drag the browser window back to the laptop screen, it works fine.
Ok, 5 min follow up:  it seems im now having the similar issue with streaming video on my laptop screen....sound streams fine, the video seems to shake back and forth very quickly, runs, then shakes again...seems to only happen intermittenltly on the laptop...but display shows real lag and shake.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution on the Yoga to something lower than what it is set on? A 1080i screen has a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080, my Yoga 3 Pro has a default resolution of 3200 x 1800. I have not tried connecting my Y3P to the TV yet, but the conversion could be causing an issue.

  • Can QT Pro capture streaming video from webcams?

I'm trying to capture segments of video from the National Geographic's Wildcam Africa, in which they have a live feed of video from a waterhole in Africa 24/7. Can QT Pro do this? (All I can find is info on creating streaming video with QT.)

SnapZ Pro can create any format of QuickTime when you "finalize" the file. You only get one choice at this step so you must plan ahead.
If you capture at 640X480 and export to DV Stream you can edit that file with iMovie. Adjust your Display dimensions so your capture gets the biggest version of the on screen area. If the play window is small (most are 320X240) set your Display to 800X600 prior to capture and see if it helps.

  • EXACTLY what cable(s) do I need to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution?

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro (early 2011 w/ Intel HD 3000/ 384Mb) to an external display with a 2560x1440 resolution. Specifically, what cable/connections do I need to display at this resolution? I cannot get the display to work using a "Thunderbolt to HDMI" or a "Thunderbolt to DVI" connector.  Note:  I used both older and newer (uni-directional) HDMI cables on the first config, and a Dual-link DVI cable on the second config.   Apple specs state this is possible ( support.apple.com/kb/SP619 ), but I am at a loss as to how this can be done.  Thanks in advance for the help!

You use a Mini DisplayPort to either HDMI or dual-link DVI adapter. If that component doesn't work, something's wrong with either the cable or something else in the connection.

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.
Macbook Pro Intel Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • Can I use my macbook pro mid 2012 as an external display using thunderbolt port

    Hi,
I want to use my macbook pro (mid 2012) screen as an external display for a raspberry pi using a HDMI to Thunderbolt cable, via the thunderbolt port on the macbook pro. Would this be possible? Can the macbook pro's thunder bolt port act as an input and is any additional software required?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You are referring to Target Display mode. Target Display mode can only be used in 27-inch iMacs and iMacs with Thunderbolt, not MacBooks Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Unfortunately, you can't use the MacBook Pro as a display. It doesn't support the monitor mode

  • Macbook Pro, how to reset invalid external display resolution?

Hi there. I have a question about the external display configuration.
I recently connected my 2011 Macbook Pro 13" (10.8.2 Mountain Lion) to an external HD-TV using Thunderbolt to VGA adapter. After connecting the TV had 1920x1200 resolution which made the text and everything look very tiny. So I thought I'd lower the resolution a bit. But then I messed up and accidentally changed the resolution and refresh rate for the external display to one that wasn't supported. So the TV went black and gave an error about an invalid resolution. At the same time, on my Macbook screen I had only the background image and display settings dialog. No mouse cursor, no menu bar, no dock etc. So I couldn't do anything.
I disconnected the Thunderbolt adapter and got my Macbook screen back to normal, but when I plugged it in again, the same thing happened. Invalid resolution on TV, just background image and display settings on Macbook screen.
Now, this was just before I was going to give a presentation and it resulted in a very awkward situation with me franticly re-plugging the Thunderbolt adapter and looking just completely clueless In the end I had to borrow my colleague's laptop.
So my question is: when this happens, is there a way I can reset / clear the external display settings back to defaults? They are obviously saved somewhere since replugging the Thunderbolt adapter didn't give me back my original resolution.

A PRAM reset should solve that:
    From the article linked above:
Your Mac stores certain settings in a special memory area even if it is turned off.  On Intel-based Macs, this is stored in memory known as NVRAM; on PowerPC-based Macs, this is stored in memory known as PRAM.
Information stored in NVRAM / PRAM includes:
    Speaker volume
    Screen resolution
    Startup disk selection
Recent kernel panic information, if any
    To reset your PRAM:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • New macbook pro 15" won't detect external display using vga adapter

    Hi there
I've tried multiple monitors and connectors but i can't get my mac to detect an external display. it responds as if nothing is connected. I'm fully up to date software-wise.
    any ideas?
    thanks for any help!!

Hi, I'm having the same problem, tried to connect both a Viewsonic and a Hanspree. Was happy to find your response here, but I just got the Moshi adapter with the macbook pro so it seems silly it would have gone bad. :/
I suppose I'll take it into the Apple Store and see what they say. Thanks!

  • Connecting iMac Keyboard to Macbook Pro while using iMac as external display

I'm trying to using my iMac wireless keyboad for my macbook pro while my iMac is in external display mode but I can't get the keyboad to connect. I've tried disconnecting the wireless keyboard from my iMac but it won't go into target display mode without the keyboad. Can I used my iMac wireless keyboard with my Macbook pro while my iMac is being used as an external display?

No, not reliably.  If it's paired with both machines you can turn it off and turn it back on but it's a toss up which machine it will connect with.  If you took it to another room so the iMac didn't see it, you'd have to disconnect the minidisplay port/thunderbolt cable and then it would exit target mode display.

  • MACBOOK PRO - NO SIGNAL OUTPUT TO EXTERNAL DISPLAYS

When connecting any external monitor I have an intermittent issue where it does send the signal to the external display - yet it shows the display's preferences in the Control Panel. Had an embarrassing moment at a presentation with an LCD projector. Have used severalo DVI adaptors. Any ideas? It works sometimes, sometimes it does not. When it works I cannot close the lid either without it turning off everything, which used to work fine.
    Any ideas?

It's too bad you never received any help on this in the Forums, but was hoping you may have come across a solution in the last 2 years.
I am not a techie, so my explanation will be crude, but sounds exactly like your issue above.  It's October 2013...I have a 2008 MacBook Pro.  Everyone tells me I can use the miniport to connect to my 2010 LG TV.  I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter from RadioShack (Gigaware brand).  I plugged the adaptor into my minport, plugged the HDMI cord into the adaptor, and plugged the other end of the HDMI cord into the LG TV (44").  In my display preference, the MacBook recognizes the TV.  However, there is virtually no picture...
I get extreme fuzz/snow with colored pixels, with the background display flickering on every 30-45 seconds behind the fuzz (i.e. very grainy).  On one occassion, the display showed up perfectly for a nanosecond and went back to fuzz.  Common sense is telling me that the image is trying to be sent to the TV but the signal is not strong enough?  Or, the encoding is not fast enough?
    Tried the following:
Grabbed another HDMI cord in case it was the originally cord - no dice.
Tried all 4 HDMI inputs on the TV - no dice.
Myriad other non-technical things like moving the MBP around, jiggering with connections, etc.  Nothing.
For purposes of meeting my needs, I ended up downloading the latest Apple TV software and ended up displaying my presentation via Airplay from my iPad.  But that solution drops a lot of the key attributes of my presentation (slide builds don't work, certain graphics missing, color is off, etc).  It worked sufficiently, but I was hoping for a more solid presentation solution.
    Thanks for listening!

  • Macbook Pro - Applications wont start without External Display

    Hi all,
Apologies if this question has already been answered, but I have spent a lot of time Googling to no avail...
I have an early 2011 15" MBP with the following spec:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B24
      SMC Version (system):          1.69f1
AMD Radeon HD 6490M / Intel HD Graphics 3000
Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.8
I normally use the MBP with a 27" Cinema Display connected (mini display port/thunderbolt connector) and the clamshell shut. All is fine.
However, if I remove the external monitor and want to use the MBP with just its own display, some applications will not start. They bounce int he dock for a while and then hang, and need to be forcibly killed. Not all applications behave this way, but so far I have experienced this with Aperture 3.2, Omnigraffle, Parallels, Pixelmator.
Does anyonw have a clue whats going on and how to fix?
    Thanks

    Hi Grant & Bob
    Thanks for your responses.
The adaptor has been removed from the Mac, and I have tried all the obvious solutions (like using detect displays), but to no avail.
I will try and investigate some  other scenarious (like using a different external display) and see what happens.
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro (2010) freezes when ejecting external display

    Hi,
When I pull out the cable for my external display (connected via VGA>Mini display port) 90% of the time my computer hard locks and I have to hold down the power button to reboot. For some reason I'm still able move my mouse, but I can't interact with anything when it freezes. I've already re-installed the OS several times to no avail (I kept my personal files).
    Mid-2010 MacBook Pro
    OSX 10.8.2
    2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (Kingston, 3rd party)
Also I have this problem where if I come out of sleep to the login screen and then don't click anything for a bit my screen will go pure white until I click/use the keyboard, which brings me back to the login screen. Not sure if related.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    I also have this issue.
    Macbook Pro Mid 2010 13"
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB Crucial ram
    Mac Os 10.8.2 (mountain lion)
Using Samsung 22" monitor with VGA to mini displayport as well
Usually it depends what I am doing but 30mins - 4 hrs I can expect my both of my screens to go grey (or sometimes flash green or purple) and totally unresponsive
Then I have to force shut down the laptop and boot up again. Rinse, repeat.
Tried the complete delete and reinstall of HD
SMC updates all done, but still happens
    Anyone have any clues ?

  • Macbook pro retina quit working with external displays

Just got a new external display, and can't get it to work with my MBP. I tried it via the mini display port and also via the HDMI connection. Then I tried to use my flatscreen tv just to test things out via HDMI and now that doesn't work either, I've done that quite a bit in the past. The only thing thats changed is I updated to Yosemite. I even tried different cables.
    Thoughts?
    Txs,
    Jeff

When I unplug the cable from the mac, the monitor does display this message:
    "No Display Port Cable"
So it does seem like the display knows that its connected to a mac, just nothing shows up. Don't get anything in System Prefs > Displays either.

  • Macbook pro retina 15" mid 2014 external display flicker randomly black

external display: Acer k272HUL 1440p display.
tested ports: Hdmi, Mini displayport, displayport, thunderbolt to HDMI,
situation: The monitor goes black randomly and recover after several flickers.
workaround: I have a external gpu connected by thunderbolt to pci-express. The monitor works normally with external graphic card.
This is internal graphic card problem, it's independent of which port I am using to connect the external monitor. The problem happens on 1440p monitor. 1080p works fine. The problem happens on maverick and Yosemite.

  • Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) HDMI External Display

I just bought a new MacBook 13" (late 2013). I have two LG displays (LG22LS4R) which I am trying to hook up. One via MB HDMI port to HDMI and the other is Thunderbolt adpater to HDMI.
The issue is when I connect MB HDMI port to HDMI, my external display renders a really horrible picture. The display is really fuzzy and the fonts look horrible too. I have tried all different types of settings. Can anyone suggest anything?
    Please help

Thanks but I tried using another cable but same result. I do get a signal when I set it to 1080p but it looks awful. When I try to set it to the external displays native resolution I lose the signal.
